Premier CS4/Media Encoder Source Name Conflict

Windows XP. Export sequence->media set for AVI. Media Encoder comes up and the sequence 01 is in the ME source name. Problem is the path data. The .prproj is in C:\document and setting\joe\my documents\adobe\premium pro/4.0; however, the ME source name is C:\Windows\TEMP\untitled.prproj/sequence 01. When I start the queue, get error that source file not found. If I try to "add" the segment and path from ME (my document and settings location) ME states "dynamic link error" with no further elaboration. Any ideas as to what is wrong? It is a consistent error on all of my projects and another user's projects on the same PC.

FUNDAMENTAL ERROR: Do not use your boot disk for anything but OS & programs. If you only have one disk, then your system does not meet minimum requirements. Use at least two physical distinct 7200 RPM SATA disk, not partitioned ones.

  • Should Media Encoder Source Name

    Hello all,
I've asked this question in another way, but I didn't get a soluton -- so I'll simplify my question....
    Adobe Premiere CS4  4.21 and Media Encoder CS4 4.2.0 006  Windows
When in The Media Encoder The Source Name of the file.
Should the actual directory of the video and video file name be shown or does it show in this format:  C:\Document\user\LOCALSETTINGS\temp\Sequence 01
In my case it is  showing in per above -- and I think I must have mysetting wrong somewhere????????????
See screen capture.  Is this "normal"?
    Thanks,
    ...Rowby

    Hi,
I think your image showed this information about where media encoder is " seeing " your "source name"....
    c:\docume~1\rowby\locals~1\temp\commercial-15_3.prproj/Sequence 01
It seems to me that this part.....   \commercial-15_3.prproj/   ..... is an adobe premiere pro "project name".
My impression is that you have saved your project there.  After the project name is the following:
    \commercial-15_3.prproj/Sequence 01
That looks to me like your Sequence saved within that project....  what you are calling the "source name ?"
I think what Adobe Premiere Pro does is it makes links to the real video and audio files you have on your hard drive and saves the information about your manipulation of the real files as code in the location you choose for your project.  The project doesn't have to be in the same directory as the files you are using for video or audio, etc.
When I begin a new project it is often the default directory "c:\documents and settings\rod\my documents\adobe\premiere pro\3.0 "  that is listed for me to save the project.  That is the default directory (folder) that my project would be saved in if I don't choose one of my own .....
Maybe your default directory is the one you have showing above...  ???  I think that is the likely reason you have that project saved in that directory.
However, it makes no difference really....where the project is saved in relation to the video and audio files you use within the project, because the project is only saving references to the source material and doesn't need to be in the same directory as that source material.
When you start a new project, look at where the project is to be saved, and you can "browse" your hard drive and save it in a folder of your choice. I usually create a folder before I start a new project , just for that project, and then choose the folder I've created to start the project there....
    Hope this helps...

  • Premiere pro CS4+media encoder CS4 problem encoding to WMV and MOV

    Hello,
I am new to CS4. I lurked around the meanders of CS4 help and FAQ. In spite of the large help database I could not find a solution to my issue.
I edited a little movie from shots I took during holidays. I edited in premiere pro cs4 and it is a bit faster than CS3 <yoohoo>
However I want to export the movie as NTSC source to high quality download. In the Expot settings,  I wrote a file output of course so it can encode and compile the movie somewhere on my HDD and I did not touch anything in standad NTSC source to high quality download values and tabs. In the end the movie should be around 848 mega.
I press OK, then Media Encoder pops up on screen. my project comes automatically in Media Encoder which is neat so I just had to click on start Queue but here is my problem...
I can wait for 4 hours or more, Media Encoder status states Encoding but nothing moves forward. Elapsed time remains at 00:00:00, Estimated Remaining remains blank.
Although something triggered my attention when I widen Media Encoder Source Name tab. It sounds like my project from Premiere Pro is placed in a temporary folder instead of using the regular save project file folder in ...>adobe>premiere pro>4>sebsofie2010b which strange.
I try to place a picture of my issue and perhaps it will help everyone.
This picture was taken about 1 hour and half after I tried to encode the movie for the fifth time.
    The status quotes "Encoding"...
Thanks in advance for any help

    Hello,
This is Song to an Illiad. I had to change Email address and password as I am switching provider soon.
So Ok to bypass the issue at that time, I simply transfered all files to a jumpdrive and re-did the composition at a friend house. Although my problem persist and Thank you for the Wiki link it was helpful. Sherlock free ware discovered several erronous Codec. Do not ask me why, how, when please. I do not toy around with codecs and all I do is update software but I have several software going from Adobe to Autodesk series as well as Nero Light version that came with my Dvd burner.  Should I also mention I play video games when down time permits, as such I updated several time the DirectX software. Beside this, what is it called... Dvix or Xvid, well something like that... prompted me about 2 months ago to update to a newer version which I did. Finally I installed a freeware to export an avi type to another found on Cnet.com a few months ago as the file could be seen in Premiere pro but there were no Audio track seen in premiere while the client gave me his camcorder and I knew there should be an audio track, it was a sort of camcorder that records on a memory sticks which is why the camera was small. It was a canon but nothing more detailed than that. Anyway, I had the camera with no drivers whatsoever and I had a hard time to find the driver for free online which is why I found a freeware or perhaps was it a shareware or a trial (I am not sure), anyway it decoded and re-encoded the movie which it did successfully with lots of image loss quality but it was succesful. I know I deliberatly threw the shareware or trial straight in the garbage once I was done because I do not want this kind of junk on my PC. Perhaps could it be the issue with Media Encoder not able to start?!?!
Here comes a couple of texts Copy/Past & image to describe what Sherlock found

What should I do? Can I just reinstall the codec from my Adobe CS4 Production Suite (Without) creating more issues and problems? It seemed the Wiki hints were helpful to pin point a problem but not always at giving solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Seb
P.S: Could Adobe throw a little software to download to ensure all codecs are what they should be like and prompt user to reinstall straight from our Dvds? It would be soo much easier that way.

  • Premiere CS4 / Media Encoder cannot locate source

Premiere Pro CS 4 / Media Encoder -  Sources load fine and upon export they appear in Media Encoder as "waiting."   However, on starting the que I immediately and constantly get the message that the source file cannot be found.   Note I am able to drag files into Media Encoder, start the que and get the expected results.  Thoughts?  Thank you

Maybe this Adobe KB Article will be of help.
    Good luck,

  • CS4 Media Encoder doesn't render Quicktime at all

The CS4 Media Encoder will render H.264 and FLV, but doesn't render any form of Quicktime at all.
The Queue loads the project, pretends to render, but does not show progress frames. Seconds later (way too early!) there is a green checkmark that the render completed successfully. The log file looks successful with essentially the same content as for H.264 and FLV.
For example this log file shows a 1-minute sequence "rendered" in 30 seconds -- normally takes 3 minutes -- and no .mov was created.

    Very good advice.
I would also say, save your project after any edit that you feel you can't afford to lose.

  • Does The New CS4 Media Encoder Seem Slow?

I selected some B-Roll that was shot in P2 1080i and brought it into a standard definition project. I scaled it to about 44% and sped up one timelapse segment by about 900%. The resulting length was about 8 minutes.
Transcoding this 8 minute sequence into 720x480 NTSC With the CS4 Media Encoder is taking over 3 hours! This is on a system with an Intel Q6600 processor.
Has anyone else noticed that the new Media Encoder seems slower? I don't think it uses existing render files like previous versions of Premiere.

"DV project. If you have three clips AND THE 2ND ONE is color corrected then you do a 'preview render' that 2nd clip is rendered to dv so it will play real time in your timeline. Then when you render out to DVD clip 2 is rendered yet again to Mpeg-2. It has been rendered twice, it a second generation image unlike CLIP 1 AND 3 WHICH are still first generation before the Mpeg encoding"
Sorry typing faster than my brain. Sorry trying to get work done and help people got the better of my fingers brain. The above is corrected with the corrected in CAPS.
In a nutshell when you use preview files your telling the computer to use files that have already lost a generation to make your edit faster.
If you edit DV the preview renders the effect (or whatever) to whatever is set in the sequence files. So a new DV file is made, which is rendered into an MPEG (or quicktime, Blu-ray whatever).
"But if you are saying that re-render renders the already rendered preview clip, I believe that you may be in error. I thought re-render ignored the previews and looked to the source file(s) again. Am I wrong?"
Yes your wrong because your assuming the preview render was done in the format your outputing in AME. If re-render 'ignored the previews and looked for the source file(s) again' there wouldn't be any render to 're-render'.
The Preview render renders a new file based on your media codec (dv to dv, HDV to i-frame. dvcpro to dvcpro). It has no way of knowing what your final setting in AME are going to be. So preview files are double rendered.

Me too.  Sometimes it works. Sometimes, even the smallest file will crash the ENTIRE COMPUTER and it will force restart itself.  I have tried it with h.264 and MPEG2-DVD, and both have crashed it.
I thought it might be overheating my MacBook Pro, so I have been watching the temperatures. The CPU gets almost to 200f.  The process viewer shows encoder process average around 167%.
It is unfortunate because when it does work, it actually makes very pristine encodes.
I also tried updating the licensing through a FLEX update, as the console was reporting the same message over and over again. That message has stopped, but the crashing has not.
My fans run constantly when watching training videos on Adobe's site, and the computer never crashes. So I assume it is not a heat problem.  That said, I don't know whether the CPU or the GPU are responsible for video playback.  In other words, if the GPU does playback, and the fans go on, it isn't getting hot enough to shutdown.  If the CPU does does playback, and is causing the fans to go on, I would think that the computer would shut down just as it does when Media Encoder is encoding and causing the CPU to get hot.
At this point my hunch is that Media Encoder is causing some sort of kernel panic, causing the computer to restart. But this is just a stab in the dark.

  • CS4 Media Encoder Presets

Does anyone know if CS5 Media Encoder Presets are compatible with CS4 Media  Encoder?
    http://blogs.adobe.com/ktowes/2010/10/new-encoding-settings-for-multiple-screens-using-ado be-media-encoder-cs5.html
    Thanks

    The solution! :)
Now I only have one of these two folders containing all presets. The "other folder" is a symbolic link to this folder using this tool:
    http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html
Now it doesn't matter whether I am defining a preset in Premiere or in AME. It works fine!

  • Premiere CS4 & Media Encoder CS4 didn't work..

i just install Premiere Pro CS4 & Media Encoder CS4..
i finished editing my videos in Premiere, but when i want to encode it in Media Encoder, it says "please verify that adobe premiere is installed in your computer"..
    what should i do?
    tnx..

    Welcome to the forum.
Do you have the full-paid version, or the trial?
It sounds like your installation is not complete, or has become corrupted. This is a general CHECKLIST for installing most Adobe programs. Look over it, to see if perhaps you missed something.
If you did everything in the checklist, then I would attempt a Repair Install. Did you install from media, or from a download?
    Good luck,

  • Pro CS4 Media Encoder vs Sorenson Squeeze Quality?

    Guys,
When outputting a video to Flash (for this discussion, let's assume Flash V8, medium size.....with the Web as the target audience), does anyone have experience using both PProCS4 Media Encoder and Sorenson Squeeze---being able to comment of the quality of each?   Is CS4 Media Encoder doing as good a job (apples to apples) as Sorenson Squeeze would do?    For general info, they want SD video in 4:3 ratio.
I've want to provide the best quality video I can to a client who is selling web training for a professional methodology.  They are using video to provide additional visual support to their audio segments.
    TIA,
    jd

I purchased Squeeze after the release of CS4, the Adobe Media Encoder was fine in CS3.  I noticed after installing CS4 that the end product (usually Quicktime, AVI, Mpeg-2 DVD and BluRay for me) was soft and fuzzy.  I dug around various forums and found that many had this issue with the AME in CS4 and saw Sorenson Squeeze highly recommended.  It should be noted that I use a Matrox RT.X2 card with my CS3 and now CS4 environment.  I now export out an uncompressed i-Frame Matrox AVI and bring it into Squeeze and it works great.
I am finding the same issue in a non-Matrox project.  We are doing a spot now that was shot in DVCPRO-HD.  The image is gorgeous in PP, however when I use the AME, the resulting file is soft and dull.
Question to anyone who can help.  In a non-Matrox project, what can I use to get it into Squeeze?  With my Matrox projects, the uncompressed Matrox export bypassed the AME and gave me a clean image to bring into Squeeze.  In my current non-Matrox DVCPRO-HD project I tried uncompressed AVI but it reduced my size to 720x480, and it reduced the quality.  How do I get my footage out of Premiere and into Squeeze without using the AME?
    Thanks,
    Marty

  • Windows 7, CS4 Media Encoder freezing and crashing upon clicking "Start Queue" - every sequence!

Windows 7, CS4 Media Encoder freezes when queue starts with sequences from Premiere. However, sequences opened from Media Encoder's "Add Sequence" export fine. Have re-installed (without first un-installing), issue is ongoing. I have several important deadlines fast approaching, please help! Media cache has been cleared (both automatically and manually), computer has been defragged and scanned for disk errors... I am absolutely stumped!

I've checked the anti-virus (I didn't think of that!), but it doesn't seem to make any change.
I've had Window Task Manager running while trying to export, it would seem that the problem occures when PProHeadless.exe opens. If I manually close it right before clicking "Start Queue", AME doesn't freeze until PProHeadless.exe re-starts once more.
Any information on forums regarding PProHeadless.exe seem more to do with an error message, not that the application itself is causing problems. I've tried multiple different sequences, all with different footage, different types of files and all with the same result.
Would a complete reformat or Windows and CS4 be the only answer? I dread the thought but I'm getting desperate.

  • CPU Usage Question between Premier and Media Encoder

    Hey guys,
Here is the question. I just built a new machine with the following specs:
    Intel i7 2.66GHz process overclocked to 3.2GHz
    12GB Memory
    Nvidia 260 Overclocked video card.
When I export a video from Adobe Premier into Media Encoder, all 8 cores peg out at 100% and thus my CPU temp get hot really quick (78 - 80 degrees Celsius)
Now if I take the same original video file and just drag it into Media Encoder, my 8 cores only show about 24-40% usage and the temp only gets to around 55-60 degrees Celsius.
What is causing such a big difference in CPU usage? I'm afraid to use Adobe Premier as it causes the CPUs to max out everytime. I want to edit my videos, but as stuck with just using AME on the original files.

I suspect its simply because in the first case Pr and AME are both running. In the later, just ame loading the Pr project. In the forst case two projects are running simultaneously, the one in Pr and a temp copy in AME.
But more troublesome to me is why youve built a system that cant be maxed out. IN editing, we Want the CPUs to peg to process as fast as possible. IMHO; You should re-think the design of your workstation if it overheats so easily.

  • CS4 media encoder crashes if On2, 2 pass selected

    Hi,
I have tried this with several .mov files of different sizes,
both in pixels and in duration. (from 6 minutes to 5 seconds)
When I encode to F4V everything is fine.
When I encode to FLV with ON2 and 1 pass everything is fine.
When I encode to FLV with ON2 and switch on 2 pass the
progress bar stops at the half way point for a while and then Media
Encoder closes. A zero byte file is left in the directory.
I am using CS4, on windows XP. I have downloaded all updates
for my Adobe products. I have restarted my computer. None of these
    things make any difference.
It crashes every time with 2 pass on.
    Addition to post.
I have now reinstalled flash pro CS4 and media encoder.
BEFORE checking for and installing any updates I tried encoding a
completely new file and experienced exactly the same crash when set
    to ON2 2 Pass.
I then installed all updates again. No change, same crash of
    Media Encoder.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
I tried encoding a source mov file to On2 VP6 with 2 pass and
it worked for me for both CBR as well as VBR case. This was on
Windows XP and I have Premiere Pro and AME installed on the system.
If you import the file directly into AME (instead of sending
it via Flash) and then encode, do you still get the crash?
    Thanks

  • Premiere CS4 Media Encoder AVIs and Encore Encoding Errors

For some reason, I'm having trouble creating DVD's in Encore from AVI's exported from Premiere CS4. When encoding starts, Encore immediately pops up with an "encoding error". I now, all of a sudden get this identical error on two of our systems.
Most of the time Encore works if I export an "MP2" file from the Premiere CS4 timeline.
Any of you guys having trouble with Encore CS4? To me it has been a lot more buggy and unreliable than any previous version. The program also seems sluggish on our Q6600 4gGB RAM computers! Kind of like the program is straining just to open its windows.
Another thing that is annoying. Earlier in the day, I exported a Flash Web video for a client's review. A few hours later I had to make a 1 hour and 46 minute DVD with chapters for a client that had to be Fed Ex'd overnight. It took forever to complete and I soon realized that Encore defaulted back to the last export...FLASH! cr@p. I would prefer that the program defaulted to standard DVD creation. After all it is Encore DVD.

I'm having major problems with Media Encoder CS4.
When I try to create an AVI file (for example) from a section of my Premiere Pro CS4 timeline, the encoder opens, takes forever to load the project, and then, after I hit start queue button, it again takes forever to load the project in the small window at the bottom of the display.
Finally the "waiting" message in the queue list turns to an orange exclamation mark with the message that encoder "could not read from the source. PLease check if it has been moved or deleted." Which of course it has not been.  THis happens even if I preview the section in advance in Premiere.  material.
If at any point I hit the settings button it simply reloads the project

  • CS4 Media Encoder freezes on importing Premiere Project

I'm using PPro CS4 on XP professional (German), Service Pack 3.
From one moment to the next Media Encoder stopped working.
When I try to export media from Premiere everything works fine until i start the encoding process.
Media Encoder says "Loading project file..." (figuratively- i'm using the German version) and then freezes soon after ("application is not responding").
I waited for more than 4 hours but nothing changes. XP's task manager shows that Media Encoder is consuming more and more virtual memory, but there ist absolutely no disk i/o.
Media Encoder still works when encoding plain video files in contrast to sequences from premiere.
What i did try up to now:
    - exported very simple sequences in different formats
    - reinstalled all Adobe CS4 Pro Applications
    - removed application data from user folder
    - installed the latest SATA/USB controller drivers
but it still remains the same.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi
Here is just one more unhappy Media Encoder user.
Symptoms are the same described in this tread: ME freezes, nothing happen for 5 min. after hitting start queue. Then I get the following error  “Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been deleted”
I red almost all threads (and they are many) on ME troubleshooting. Didn't find a solution yet.
In the C:/Documents & settings/.../Temp folder  there is only .prproj and epr (?) files that can't be red by ME.
I tried different types of sequence to export in PPr including a simple .avi wide screen (and short ones too)
I tried different output formats in Ppr exporting setting as well, including .avi, mpeg...
I tried to manually add the .prprop file to ME and of course it didn't help
I deleted the indexing of the folder (one of Harm or Bill's advice)
I deleted the pref of PPr and ME  (see Genuine Project advice)
I had no problem exporting to Encore and making DVD
This is Win XP, PPr CS4
I know I'm short with hw (laptop – 4 GB Ram) – graphic chipset and one hdd only and I'm looking for a replacement. But could this ME problem be a hw one?
I keep hoping there is a way.
