Premier Elements 10: freeze when maximizing or resizing on secondary monitor

I installed PE 10 yesterday on a Windows Vista laptop that has a second monitor connected. PE loads and runs, but if I move the window to the second monitor and maximize or resize it, the program freezes, the window is replaced by a white rectangle much larger than the original window or the monitor's resolution, and it consumes huge amounts of CPU until I terminate the process. If I leave it on the laptop panel (primary monitor) there are no such problems.
I suspect the issue is that the two monitor are not identical either in resolution or aspect ratio, but I hope one of you experts will tell me. Obviously it would be easier to edit video on the larger monitor.
I'm also more than slightly annoyed that Adobe doesn't offer any direct support at all for a $100 product.
Thanks,
Carl

HP hasn't updated their GeForce GO 6150 driver since 2007. nVidia just tells me to use the HP driver. I reinstalled the newest driver for my Pavilion DV6000 but the problem persists.
Defragment? Really? The software is so poorly written that slightly delayed disk reads/writes can cause the window management to malfunction? Are you kidding?
This is a 2 GHz Turion TL-60 based system running 32-bit Vista SP2.  It has 2 GB of RAM.
And none of that should cause the program to freeze up. No well-written program ever freezes without even displaying an error message.
Note: I'm aware that this is an old system. I have already planned my upgrade, but I'm travelling a lot right now and I need to lock down a few days to build and configure the new system before I actually buy the pieces and start work.

  • PS elements 12 freezing when doing selective color and having to force quit on Mac.

PS elements 12 freezing when doing selective color and having to force quit on Mac.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times and that did not work.  I've changed preferences and that did not work and i tried hitting shift+command and option at start up of program and that did not fix the problem either.

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

Thank you for responding.  Nothing actually worked!  After reading the posts online, I called Apple.  They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades.  The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did!  But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

  • Encoding Error for Premier Elements 3.0, when downloading video to DVD

I have been using Adobe Premier Elements 3.0 for three years without any serious problems. However, when I try to download my latest edited video from my camcorder, to DVD, it hangs up every time at exactly the same place. It starts "ENCODING MEDIA". When it reaches 49.83%, the programme stops and reports "TRANSCODING ERROR". In "HELP" I am advised to turn off all other programmes, including Firewalls and Antivirus programmes. I have done all this with no change in results. I have tried editing some more (around the 50% point). It still hangs up at exactly 49.83%. Can anyone advise me what is the problem, please? Someone suggested a dead spot on my hard drive.

  • Adobe Premier Elements 7- crash-when burning says" Please insert a blank disk" and already a disk in

I have a Adobe Premier Elements 7. I have had a lot of problems with it of crashing and not burning.. I just had my computer wiped out and installed everything back on like windows xp service pack 3..etc. First I have Windows XP service pack 3 with an Intel Core 2CPU ,6400 @213GHz, 2.13 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM.  When I went into disk menus premier elements 7 crashes... why is that??? also I tried to burn a DVD and does the progress of burniing and almost done burning WHILE there is a dvd in the drive and says"Please insert a blank disk and click ok to burning" why doe sit do that also? I just had adobe reinstalled and my computer wiped out? Please respond and help.. I am using this program as a business of video editing and nee this solved.

Along with Steve's questions, let's talk about the process of Burning a DVD-Video.
From PrE, which is doing the authoring of the DVD-Video, the first thing that happens is a quick check of the Project and the Menu Set chosen. This happens in an instant. Next, the program must Transcode the Timeline to MPEG-2 that is fully DVD-compliant. This takes some time and is a very intensive process, stressing the computer, and also heating things up greatly. This process will often cause a poorly ventilated, or poorly cooled computer to crash with either a reboot, or a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Every component, save for the video card, will be stressed like few other programs can do. PrE uses a 2-pass Transcode, where it goes through the entire Timeline, and maps out sections with high motion, or great detail. It builds a "script" on how to proceed, and then goes back at the Timeline with that script, but also still looking for ways to improve things. This is about 90% of the entire Burn Disc process. Nothing has yet to be burned. Instead, files are created in the Scratch Disk folders. Now, the program takes those newly created MPEG-2 files, the Menus, and all navigation such as Markers, and assembles them into another working folder, in the full DVD structure of VIDEO_TS folder with the IFO, BUP and VOB's. When this is done, the actual physical Burn starts. This is quite a ways into the total process. It is at this point, that the program looks at the burner and the blank media, and not before.
When the program cannot get the necessary info from the burner, or the blank media, it will throw an error message, similar to yours. Also, "SenseCode Errors" usually indicate a problem with the burner, or the media.
Now, let's address this last bit. Is the firmware for your burner up to date? If not, update/flash the firmware. This will be available from your burner mfgr's. Web site. Next, what brand of blank media are you using? Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are the most recommended brands. Memorex, TDK, newer Ritek and all store brands should be avoided at all costs. Last, is your burner a fully-certified multi-drive? If so, it should be able to handle +R, or -R media. What type are you using, and are you sure that this is blank media, and not a disc that you have already burned, or even attempted to burn?
Hope that we can stop the crashes, and get you to burning.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on and does the computer use a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card?
Please read the Announcement at the top of this forum on the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Ge Force issue which forces the user to roll back the driver version to around May 2013 in order to work with Premiere Elements 10. For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of that Announcement.
Announcement:Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are
experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of
troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained
workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video
card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as
far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013
in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this
regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver
    roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
Do you run the program with the AutoSave feature On? If so, please check the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder which should be (by default)
in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0 Then right click the latest AutoSave for this crashed project and select Open With Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0.
Where do you save the project.prel for this project?
Can you go to that hard drive save location (probably LIbraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0), right click the project.prel file, and select
Open With Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0.
If necessary, I will post instructions for deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 10.0 Folder in which it exists.
We will be watching for your details and results.
    Thank you.

  • Premier Elements 3 crashes when 'Burn' button clicked or 'Export to DVD' selected

After compiling a slide show in Premier Elements ( including rendering, previewing, saving) and I then try to either “Burn” or “Export to DVD” the programme immediately shows “Adobe Premier Elements.exe application error.  The instruction at 0X0000000 reference memory 0X0000000.  The memory could not be read.” OK or Cancel immediately shuts the program down and can’t be re-opened until the computer is re-started. On shut down a second message is displayed “The instruction at 0x00f96cb7 reference memory at 0x00000000.  The memory could not be read. OK to terminate.’ I have replaced the RAM. I have repaired the programme many times with my original disc. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programme many times. I have uninstalled Nero in case of a conflict. These fixing attempts seemed to have stopped message 2 appearing and the programme can now be restarted after it crashes without having to reboot. I have not been able to cure message 1, it crashes completely at any attempt to ‘burn’ a DVD or ‘export to a DVD’. I can use Windows to burn other discs without problems. I have previously burnt many other slideshow DVD’s without problem.
I cannot find anything similar to this fault in PE forums.
    Hope to find some help.

    Rosemary,
Trying to remember the full article, I do not think that I used too much "jargon," but in case that I did, I'll give you a quick distillation. You might want to still read on, as much more will be covered in that article.
When one starts a Project and then does a Save, a file is written to the location that the user chose. That file is [Project Name].prel. That file uses a computer language called XML. In the article, I show and example of a little bit of that language. That file ONLY contains a series of lines that link to the location of all Imported Asset files - the AV files, the still images, etc.. Those links are to where the various files were located on one's computer, when they did the Save. Next, there are a series of instructions for PrE to work with those linked Assets. These might be along the lines of "cut Shot_01.AVI at 00;00;30;00 and then again at 00;00;45;00," or "apply the Gaussian Blur Effect to Shot_02.AVI." Things like that. PrE is what is called a non-destructive NLE (Non Linear Editor) program, in that it never directly does anything to your original Assets, but only to the info gathered from them though those links. Your files are untouched, unless you were to do an Export/Share to that location, with the exact same name.
The .prel file only has some programming language inside. It is basically a database of links and instructions - not one Asset. It is not until a user does an Export, or Share (those terms basically mean the same thing, but in later versions, some of the old Export functions are now only under the Share tab), that any playable file is generated from PrE. Until then, there is nothing to play, only to Open in PrE (so long as the linked Assets still exist).
I hope that this makes sense. Many users are under the mistaken impression that Save will yield a playable file, or that one can play a .prel file. That is not the case, as explained above. This question has come up often enough, that I did the article to point out the differences, and give some tips on how to really get what one wishes.
After you read through the article, please do not hesitate to post any questions. What I want is something that is useful to all, regardless of their level of computer expertise, or their knowledge and familiarity with PrE, or any other NLE program.
    Just let me know,
    Hunt

  • Premier elements 10 hangs when loading on importingquicktime.prm

I am unable to use Premier elements 10 because it hangs while loading "importingquicktime.prm". It then goes back to the opening menu. Organizer works fine as does Photoshop, which was bought as a complete pack. I have the latest version of quicktime 7.7.1. I have checked my laptop and it has easily enough spec to cope with the programme.
I have been onto Adobe customer Support. Their technicians seems totally unaware of the probelm and seem to find it hard to grasp what is happening. They keep asking what error message comes up. There IS NO error message.
They got me to turn of all other programmes including the antivirus and to set up a new catologue in Organizer. Still the same problem.
I have spent so long on the phone to them that I will need a bank loan to pay for the phone bill. On two seperate occasions they have agreed to phone me back sometime during that day. Both times they failed to do so. It seems that they have a department called customer service and service is the last thing they want to offer.
I am surprised that Adobe seem not to know there is a problem as there has been a number of posts on this forum on the same subject.

For a quicker response, I'd suggest that you post your query on the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements

  • Photoshop Elements 11 freezes when selecting Photomerge

Photoshop Elements 11 freezes after selecting images in the tray and then selecting Photomerge/Group Shot or Photomerge/Scene Cleaner.  The program does not respond and then exits after Windows checks for a solution.  I tried this with 2 images of size 3000x2000.  The system is Win7, Intel i5, 8GB RAM, 10GB free SSD and >500GB HDD (set in Edit/Preferences).
Since the app freezes immediately I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Are you able to drag a source image into the editing window or select any of the tools e.g. pencil or eraser. If not use the menu in Expert mode and go to:
    Edit >> Preferences >> General
Click the button “Reset Preferences on next launch”
Then close the application and re-start.
Let us know if that makes any difference.

  • Premier Elements 4, Freeze or Crashes

I have an HP Pavilion running Windows XP Media Edition, Service Pack 3. 250G HD, 1.24G RAM. Model a1610n. I have  a large project, over 1 1/2 hours. Premier freezes or closes if : I navigate through the program too fast, try to render, or burn a DVD. Sometimes it does not even completely load the project before crashing. I have done other projects successfully both in Elements 3 and 4. The only message I get is that Elements has encountered a problem and must close. Wondering if there is a chance that I need more RAM since when it is working and I am putting a program together it seems slow to react. Also, I still have Elements 3 loaded and wonder if there could be a conflict of some kind even though I am working in 4. Any thoughts would be appreciated....Thx Tom

    Tom,
That is a real mixed bag of Assets. Just going down the list, many are totally "delivery formats/CODEC's" that are not meant for editing. That does not mean that they cannot be edited, but they will require some work to get them into a format that can be edited - unfortunately.
The ideal format/CODEC is: DV-AVI Type II (DV-CODEC) with 48KHz 16-bit Audio. PE can do some internal conversions, but this requires major computing power and WILL slow down the editing process, if it can be made to work at all. My suggestion is to find a conversion program, that will do all of this outside of PE. Convert all non DV-AVI Type II formats to DV-AVI Type II, and then Import. JPEG stills, properly sized, will not be a problem.
I use a particular program, DigitalMedia Converter. It is a US$50 shareware program, that works with most properly installed CODEC's, and does "batch conversions" nicely. You load it up, go get some coffee, and when you finish, it has finished. With very few exceptions, it will do everything you need. There are other programs, and some freeware, that will do this too. I just happen to like working with DMC and have found it to be about 99% perfect, so I use that. Others should have recommendations for their favorite converter programs.
Now, the reason that I mentioned G-Spot, is that it does two things, and does them well: it first surveys your system for properly installed CODEC's, and then when you feed a file to it, will tell you a lot of useful info about that file. Part of that info is the CODEC used to create it, what its official name is, and whether you have it on your system. If you do, then PE *might* be able to use it, and a good conversion program *should* be able to use it, to get to DV-AVI Type II. This utility is invaluable if one normally works with more than one format/CODEC Assets. You obviously do, by the list.
As for the computer: more RAM is better. With 4GB you'll be able to use ~3.2GB of that easily for the OS and the programs. If possible, add another HDD (Hard Disk Drive) to your system. Right now, you have about the minimum free space for normal editing. However, with only one HDD, you are asking it to do a lot of work and all at the same exact time. It is being horribly stressed. A second physical (not talking about a "logical" partition here) HDD will improve things greatly, and will allow you to move some of the material off of your C:\ to give it more room to work, and it'll spread the work load over two physical HDD's.
As a closing comment, given the nature of the Assets you describe, I doubt that my workstation could handle editing this material, were it not converted to DV-AVI Type II files, outside of my NLE (Non Linear Editor). This is a machine that easily works with Projects that range up to 30 hours with 16 Video Tracks and 28 Audio Tracks, plus tons of Effects on all Clips. I think that IT would choke! I am not surprised that your computer is having troubles.
    To recap:
1.) convert all Video Assets to DV-AVI Type II, prior to Import into PE
    2.) add more RAM
3.) add at least one more physical HDD - bigger and faster is better, but your computer's I/O controller will dictate the exact HDD type.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why does the straighten tool in Elements 11 freeze when I try to use it?

When I click on the straighten tool and then click on a horizontal line on my photo, as I attempt to draw the line across the photo it freezes after a fraction of an inch and rotates the photo before I've drawn the line along the horizontal feature I'm using and it's always wrong. I had this problem with my downloaded trial version of Elements 11 and it appears on the version I purchased in the store today.

I was able to replicate this problem and believe it may be a bug, although I did find a "workaround".
The straighten tool was only drawing for a very short distance and then I would no longer see the straighten line.  Of course, this prevented me from using it properly.  I followed the suggestions in this thread and reset the preferences.   The Straighten tool worked normally until I enabled the ruler under the View settings.  Once, the ruler was enabled the straighten tool started doing the same thing it did before.  I turned off the ruler and it started working normally again without re-opening the program.  I tried the ruler both in the default inches measurement as well as pixels (my personal ruler preference).
The workaround would be to turn off the ruler while straightening.  However, I hope this is fixed in a patch.  I didn't have this problem with Photoshop Elements 9, the last version of Elements I had prior to upgrading.    For the record, I'm running Windows 7, just installed Photoshop Elements 11 and immediately downloaded the updates, which I believe was just the Adobe Raw 7.3 update.

  • Photoshop elements 10 freezes when creating slideshow from album

It seems pretty simple to just select a few pictures from the organizer, select create, select slideshow.  A box comes up asking my preferences and when I say OK, the program freezes.  Any thoughts?

    Anwesha,
I did delete the psa.prf and status.dat files, opened photoshop elements, opened organizer, opened the catalog, hit repair, the system said it did not need to be repaired.
When finished, I selected a few photos, hit create, hit slideshow.  The editor box came up, I hit OK to the preferences, then it locked up again.  All other functions in the create category are working fine.   So I tried the same thing all over again, deleting the files you suggested, and went back into the catalog, hit repair and when it said it did not need to be repaired, I hit ‘repair anyway’.  It still did not work.
    Thanks for your continued help.

  • Help! My premiere elements 11 freezes when I go to edit a design every time.

I recently got a new laptop with windows 8. I installed photoshop elements 6 on it. It was freezing up so I went ahead and upgraded to 11. Same thing I go to load a design and it just freezes. I end up having to shut it down and load everything back up and it just freezes again. Every other program seems to working fine but my photoshops. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by Freezes?
Does it not launch or gives you any error messages?
Are yoiu able to open images and perform edits?
    Few tips:
    1) Go to Editor > Edit > Preferences > Performance - check the memory allocated to the application. in case you find it less or you can allot more to it( w.r.t. the memory of your system), increase it to improve performance
    2) Go to Task manager  > Processes and try to see the kind of memory the applications are taking(sort by memory) and kill if you are not using the applications but are still running in the background.
    3) When not using, quit the application and relaunch when needed, Memory engaged by the application will be released
