Premier Elements 10. No video playback.

Hi,
I have just started to use Premier Elements 10 after purchasing a couple of years ago. I can import videos of most formats. But when brought into edit I get sound but no video playback. it's a blank screen. Sometimes I can get it to work sporadically if, for example, I try motion tracking. But it will only work once. If I try and go back then its back to sound only. This is my first play around with premier and I have not tried changing any settings. The PC is brand new with I5 processor and 16GB mem. Any ideas please?
Many thanks.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running and what video card/graphics card does the computer use.
If a NVIDIA GeForce card, then that is likely the cause of your problem. This is a known Premiere Elements/NVIDIA GeForce issue which
forces the user to roll back the driver version to May 2013 in order to use Premiere Elements 10 on that computer.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If that is the case, I can help you determine if there is an old enough NVIDIA GeForce driver version available for your situation.
Also, do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 10 and are you running the
programs as administrator?
Please review and consider and then we can move forward based on the details in your reply.
Thank you.

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running? It will not influence my answer but will give me information in case I need to get into version specifics to detail my answer further.
Timeline rendering is a preview matter. It does not fix anything, but it is your window of opportunity to catch of problem sooner than latter. If the Timeline rendering indicator displays orange (11 or higher) for the line above the Timeline content, that is the project telling you that you are not getting the best possible preview of the playback of that content in the Edit area monitor. And, every time you edit a file, you have altered the file from the time before. So, if you want to see the best possible for what you now have, you Timeline render. This is particularly helpful when you are dealing with titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats. You cannot turn off the Timeline render indicator system, at least none that I have ever found nor seen reported. You can do selective Timeline rendering by having the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar span only the Timeline segment that you want Timeline rendered.
Consequently, you either ignore the Timeline render indicator system, move on in the project, and take your chances in the outcome or you Timeline render to get your best possible preview if the Timeline render indicator is suggesting that you do so.
I am not approving or disapproving of this project feature, just commenting on the what is.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. If you want to have your voice heard at Adobe, you might consider filing an Adobe Feature Request Bug Report Form.

    Please consider.

Add On...it is also possible to do Timeline rendering in a project, save close the project, and reopen it to find your previously "green" lined content now "orange", indicating unrendered. Yet the preview files generated originally by Timeline rendering are still existing in their hard drive save location. That is another story for other time.

  • Premier Elements 11 trial.  Playback problems; instability problems

I downloaded the trial version and installed yesterday.  My experience so far is as follows:
Video tracks I import (h.264) will play fine (although see below.)  Then if I try later they won't: timeline doesn't move, no sound no nothing.  No rhyme or reason to it.  I've tried deleting the project and all media files from Premier and Elements Organiser and trying again.  No luck.  Repeat, and this time they work; I presume at some point they will stop.  I've had even more trouble getting them to play in the organiser.  They have played but now no matter what I do they don't seem to want to: I'd ask if the organiser can play videos or not but I've seen it do it so I know the answer.
Launching Premier Elements may cause iTunes and/or Safari to crash.  Or maybe not.  Depends upon the mood it's in I guess....
Yesterday, something completely took over the sound output.  Couldn't adjust volume, turn off my external speakers or otherwise get sound out.  When I pressed the volume up button on my keyboard nothing happened, repeat again, nothing happened.  10 mins later the volume adjustment overlay displayed upping volume by 1 notch!  Another 5 mins later the same again!  Bizarre.  Couldn't find a way to get around it: I could launch programs ok but I couldn't logout.  Or Shutdown.  Having seen the delay in the volume dialog I decided that maybe it would shut down when it got the chance so I went for dinner.  Sure enough, on return it had shutdown.
I have (or at least did have) a stable system before installing this program.  It's an iMac on 10.8.3, 32GB RAM and 3.2Ghz 4-core processor.
Another interesting thing it does is with the playback of my clips.  These are a slideshow of photos: each photo transitions in over 1.5 secs, stays for 2 secs, then transitions out whilst the next one transitions in.  In other words, each photo overlays the previous one and then is displayed for 2 secs.  This is how they play in iTunes, on a DVD etc.  In Premier, the clips register as the same length but each photo transitions in and immediately transitions out with no 2 second pause.  It's as if the transitions have been extended in time so the whole clip remains the same length but consists solely of transitioning images.  Why would it interpret the video differently to other applications?
I was hoping to switch to this program because the output from iMovie 11 is really bad for dark areas: extremely pixellated and blocky.  The output from Premier doesn't have this but of course the output doesn't play properly so it's a bit moot really.
I could probably live with this, for this one set of clips, if it wasn't for the other instability problems - do others find similar problems?
    Regards
    Andrew

Thanks ATR - not sure I explained my self properly, but here's some background...
I have a DVD that consists of a slideshow of photos from a window.  As above, these seem to transition in over 1 or 1.5 seconds stay for 2 and then the next one transitions in.  I've ripped the DVD using handbrake to a H.264 format so I can play on AppleTV  (no copyright issues by the way!)  The DVD is actually split into 5 titles: 4 of 6 minutes 7 seconds duration and 1 of around 20 seconds duration.  In the DVD of course they play continually appearing as a 24 minute 48 seconds.
The intention was to load all 5 clips into Premier on the timeline and create 1 output.  That actually works (when it works!) so in some respect I can achieve what I want, except.....
Let's take clip 1.  It's 6 mins 7 secs long in iTunes.  In iTunes it plays as expected: each photo transitions in for 1.5 secs, sticks for 2 seconds then the next photo transitions in.  In Premier, the clip is 6 mins 7 secs long.  However, it plays as follows: each photo transitions in then the next photo transitions in without pause.  It seems that the transitions have extended in duration to what appears to be 3.5 secs thus there's no clear point where I can see the photo (a split moment when I could press pause is the only possibility.)
So that question was really: why would Premier take a clip that has been copied from DVD, and which iTunes plays the same as the DVD, and play it back differently?  I read the thread which was useful in explaining how different programs dealt with transitions whilst building up a video/slideshow - perhaps I misunderstood it.
This isn't the main reason for testing Premier actually.  I have a video camera capable of 1080/50p which iMovies can't handle without significant jiggery-pokery.  And the exports are just plain rubbish.  I've just loaded some clips into the Elements organiser - here's another problem which I'll mention here but for which I'll give more feedback on a separate thread later:
when playing back a clip, the sound will just stop.  Video will continue, but no sound.  If I pause it, reset the play marker backwards then play sound comes back.  It may or may not disappear later in the playback.  Either way, in the organiser playing clips either works, doesn't work sometimes (often??), plays with sound, plays some sound then stops.
Sorry...but this seems like a buggy program to me.
    Thanks
    Andrew

    Hi All,
I installed premier element 4.0 on an HP machine. Recently I get a blank screen during play back in PE 4.0.
My video card is NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT, my OS is Vista Home premium.
When i change the driver to VGA driver then i get play back but it is choppy. I tried updating to the latest driver from NVIDIA website. Still it does not work.
    Please help...

    Steve & mohan_george,
Actually, there are tools, available from MS. However, the process of using these is very involved. I'll look for the link to a talk/tutorial for their use. Again, it is very involved, but doable.

  • Adome Premiere Elements 7.0 Video Playback jitter

Hi Having problems playing videos in Premiere elements.
Once imported I them imported into premiere elements and then play it- the video is jittery and not smooth. Playing it in more basic players seems to not have any problems at all.- I'm unsure why this is occurring in premiere.
Laptop Specs are 2.0MHZ CPU,2GB RAM 20GB Free HDD Space- files are 20MB.
Ive defragged the drive and gone through and cleaned up things- can anyone advise where I start and what things may need configuring etc...- this occurs to any video played in Adobe Elements premiere 7.0. Files are imported from a Sony handy cam HDR-SR11
    Kind Regards John

You've got a number of problematic issues, John.
For one, your computer is underpowered. A laptop running 2 mhz is barely fast enough to run the program, even editing standard video -- and 20 gig of free hard drive space will not likely be enough to allow for scratch disk files for any intensive video work and the fragmentation and paging that always happens on a C drive.
But you've compounded all of that by trying edit AVCHD video, probably the most challenging, intensive format to edit on any computer. Most people who are successfully editing AVCHD are doing so on state of the art quad-core computers.
So, unfortunately, you're just not going to be able to work with this program, editing that video on this computer. Sorry.
The FAQs at the top of this forum offer our suggestions for minimum computer specs. The computer at the bottom of the list would most likely be required to edit video from that camcorder.

  • Premier Elements 10 video playback is very poor and choppy

When I look at my mts files inusing premier elements 10, the video looks really bad. But when I look at the same videos using windows media player they look fine. Any idea on how I can get my videos to look good in Premier elements? I have a new high end computer.

    Don,
One big problem with using WMM Live, is that it will be heavily compressing the camera's footage to the WMV wrapper. There is one quality loss right there.
Then, because of the heavy compression to WMV, your computer will have to work overtime, to handle those WMV's in PrE. Though it IS a supported format (with the various WMV CODEC's), much additional processing must take place.
Then, if you output to another compressed format/CODEC, you will take another quality hit.
The beauty of Premiere is that, for the supported formats/CODEC's, it edits the footage in its native state, so that there is not that initial quality hit. It is also very likely that in the native format/CODEC, PrE and your computer, will not have to work so hard.
Last, if your footage uses any flavor of H.264, though supported in PrE, the speed of your CPU will come into play, regarding playback.
Lot of things to think about.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premier Elements 10 Laggy Performance

I just bought Premier Elements 10 a couple of days ago and I'm already pulling my hair out in frustration.  The performance is horrible, every modification is laggy.  Especially noticiable is vertical and horizontal scrolling of the timeline.  I will scroll the mouse wheel and wait 5-10 seconds of more for the scrolling to catch up, meanwhile the entire program is unresponsive. I hope someone can offer me suggestions as to how to fix this.
    Here are my computer specs:
    Intel Core i7-2600k CPU @3.40Ghz
    8GB Ram
    Win 7 64-bit
AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series 1762MB RAM
I have a SSD Drive for the Windows and programs and a 7200rpm 500GB drive for projects and caches which is completely clean with a new format.
Here is what I have tried:
Updated Win7, Premier Elements, Audio, and Video drivers to latest versions.
Installed the latest version of Quicktime
Tried to run Elements in Compatibility mode but the option is grayed out
    Removed Virus Scanner / Firewall
Used Videos from 2 different cameras, one is a 3rd gen Flip Ultra HD camcorder.  I used the specific preset for the Flip and got the same performance issues.  I also tried converting files from both sources to match other presets from Permier Elements, which also didn't work.
Halted all non-essential processes and elevated the Premier Elements process to high priority.
Used the Media imported to bring files into the project.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

First, we have to assume you've got the 64-bit version of the program installed. Otherwise, you won't be able to take much advantage of that 64-bit operating system.
Matching the correct project settings to your video source is vital to optimal performance. When the two are matched, you will see no red lines above your clips when you add them to the timeline. Is that the case in your project?
Have you entered the BIOS and ensured your second hard drive is properly set up there? You'll get greatly reduced performance if you hard drive is set up in Windows but not set up in your BIOS. A good test would be to do a short project on your C drive with all of your media sources on that drive. Are you still experiencing the lag.
There is absolutely no reason you should be getting poor performance on that system, if you've got everything set up properly. With that hardware, this program should fly! I'm on a dual-core 2.6 ghz system and Flip video runs like a top! So we need to figure out what you've not got set up properly.

  • Using Adobe Premier Elements to create a video using the photos and it is make the photos blurry. Is there a setting to correct this?

as the subject states, i am suing Premier Elements pro to create a video using photos. The photos are clear then when you play the video they become blurry. I would guess there would be a way to correct this but not having much success. any helps would be great.

    Iltowman
Thanks for the follow up. Right now I see details that do need addressing. For one, you are importing 3:2 photos into a project set for 16:9.
You still have not told us what version of Premiere Elements that you are using and on what computer operating system it is running. For now I will assume, Premiere Elements 13/13.1 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. NTSC setup.
Please try the following as a mini test run (just a few of your photos) to determine if the Timeline photos present better in the Edit area and in an export.
    1. Open Premiere Elements 13/13.1 to the Expert workspace and go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
    2. In Change Settings, change the settings to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR [email protected]
    OK out of there.
    3. In the New Project Dialog that now opens, rename the project and make sure that you have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Setting on This Project. OK out of there.
    4. Back in the Export workspace, import your photos using Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and Folders/Projects Assets from where you drag the photos to the Timeline. There will be an orange line over the Timeline content. Press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard. or the Render button above the Timeline to do Timeline rendering which will result in the best possible preview in the Edit area monitor.
Also, right click the Edit area monitor, select Playback Quality, and then determine if the "Highest" gives better results than "Automatic".
If all looks good, then let us look at the quality of a AVCHD.mp4 export of that Timeline....
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
Is the quality of the photos in this mini test run better, the same, or worse?
About your photos (3872 x 2592 3:2)...video is 4:3 or 16:9. So to avoid black borders, you could consider
    a. cropping the originals from 3:2 to 16:9 before import
    or
    b. importing them as is and doing any needed scaling in the Edit area monitor
But, right now the focus is on image clarity rather than black borders.
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

  • Every video produced by Premier Elements 11 is blury and out of focus.

When I try to create a video with Premier Elements 11 and an MTS file from my video camera, the resulting videos are blurred and out of focus. The MTS is clear and looks good. Plays on any supported video player. Have tried to convert to AVI as well as creating DVD with the same results. This is the case with any input file, not only one. How can I get a focused, clear video?

    scarboro98
The answers are in the details.
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on?
What are the properties of these .mts source files
    Video compression
    Audio compression
    Frame size
    Frame rate
    Interlaced or Progressive
    File extension
    Pixel Aspect ratio
What is the brand/model/setting of the camera recording the source media?
What are you or the project setting as the project preset (which should match the properties of the source media)
See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if they appear to be grayed out)
When you are viewing the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor is the playback blurry and out of focus?
Or is the blurry and out of focus only in your exports? If only in exports, then we need to dig into your export choices in Publish+Share/.
Is your computer optimized and is your video card/graphics card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of your video card?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
Any questions or need clarification on anything written, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe premier elements 9 pure virtual call error won't allow me to playback or export movie

I get a pure virtual call error everytime I try to playback a movie Ive created or export it and the program shuts itself down and closes. Does anyone know how to fix this now? Getting very annoyed with this program

Ok one sec. Let me get that info together. I've made several videos in the past using the exact same kinds of photos from the same source and never had this problem before. I never had issues like this with premier elements 3.02 on my desktop computer either. I had elements 9 installed on my desktop and made several videos with no issues until about 6 months before I bought my laptop. My desktop was running windows xp and was pretty old and when I encountered this same problem for the first time on the desktop pc, I decided to just get a laptop thinking that maybe the issue was in my old pc. When I first got my laptop about a year ago, i had the dvd install disks for premier elements 3.02 and just decided to load that on and see how it did first before putting elements 9 on. I made 2 videos with no issues whatsoever and then started getting that same error message and could do nothing without the program shutting itself down. I hadn't made any videos since but decided to make one a few days ago. I tried again with 3.02 and got the same error message so I decided to download and install premier elements 9 and see how that would do. But again, I'm getting the same  error message. I just don't understand why it would work one time and then start getting these error messages the next.

  • I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files.  It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5.  I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them.  I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.
    Thanks again for any help!!!!

    jnrmendonca
It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

  • AVI files loaded in Premier Elements 7 only show audio and not video.

I am a new user of Premier Elements 7 and am having problems getting the video into a new project I set up. I have 6 AVI v1.0 clips that play both audio and video in Windows 7, but when I set up a project and import them, I only get the audio side and not the video side. I can drag the audio to the timeline and can play the audio just fine. But it is missing the video. I must be doing something wrong, but am new enough that I don't know where to turn.
I have been reading the forums and taking tutorials, so I think I know the steps to import a video into PRE7. I've tried many things, but still no video. I downloaded GSpot and found that my files have video H264 (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) and audio oxooo2 (ADPCM). The codecs seem to be installed on my Windows 7 computer.
Can someone point me in the right direction on what to do next. I'm a computer professional with 50 years of experience, so am no dummy, but am new to PRE7. Thanks in advance.

I found a mini-CD that came with the product. When I loaded it on my computer, one of the options was to install a device driver. I did this and now I can see the video in PRE7. So, I think this solves my problem.
I applaud the mfgr. of the Insignia. This is the way that it should be with ALL cameras, that do not use a miniDV tape, or precise CODEC, that is mainstream. All too often, the mfgrs. tweak an existing CODEC, and just leave the customer hanging, trying to find a way to edit the footage. A couple of major mfgrs. come immediately to my mind.
Others, who use CODEC's, like Xvid, that is so heavily compressed, that even converting it to an editable format/CODEC results in such horrible footage, that no one would ever be satisfied with the finished product.
    <Soapbox Mode Off>
Glad that you are now up and editing. For my education, what does G-Spot say about the CODEC in the Insignia footage? At least next time that I encounter it, I can say - "look in the box, and install the driver to get the CODEC."
    Thanks for reporting,

  • Premier Elements 7 - confusion over mixing video formats

    Hi
I have been using a DV camcorder (SD quality) for some time, originally recording in 4:3 format, and more recently in 16:9 format (as we bought a wide screen telly).
I have just treated myself to a new AVCHD Panasonic video recorder recording High Definition footage in 1080 16:9 PAL format onto an SD memory card.
I wanted to take all this footage and put it on my computer to edit it together and start making some films to keep for the future - on DVD for now, and at some point on Blue Ray. To this end I have just purchased Adobe Premier Element 7.0, with Photoshop Elements 7.0 bundled together.
My confusion is that it appears I can only use one format in a "project" as I need to define the parameters for the "project" in terms of SD vs HD and 4:3 vs 16:9. I was hoping to be able to store all of my footage of various quality definitions and screen ratils into a "library" (which I see is called "Organiser" in Adobe terms) on the hard disk, and then pick and choose from the "library" what to put into each "film project" as I make them, mixing formats as I wish. I realise that in this way, the output would itself switch from 3:4 to 16:9 etc on accasions as I switch scene to use a different format, and so may not appear to be the smoothest edit.... but I thought that would be my decision to do if I wanted it. Instead it appears I cannot mix a few minutes if 4:3 SD footage of my son as a baby, with more recent 16:9 1080 HD footage of him as a boy - which is a real shame as it is what I wanted to do....
Have I misunderstood, or am I right in thinking I am limited in this way?
Why can I mix still photos of any format with video , but not mix different formats of PAL video?
    Many thanks

    Thanks Paul
I have been having go, as you suggest, and as you said, I cannot edit my AVCHD footage in Scene mode as it has 5.1 audio (which I cannot change on the videocam) This is very disappointing as I really wanted the simplicity of the scene editing rather than timeline.... This is compounded by the fact that timeline editing seems even more complicated than normal as each new AVCHD clip I add is placed onto a different video track (not all on track 4 as you thought)- so it is real mess to work out on my screen.... Is this a bug, the way PRE treats 5.1 tracks - or is it just oversight and poor design? Do you think it might be addressed by Adobe?
Anyhow, thanks for explaining what is going on, as without your warning, I would have assumed that the PRE 7 sceneline feature was broken - you would have thought there would be some warning / documentation from Adobe about this, as effectively, a big feature is now unavailable to me as an AVCHD user - and the product claims to be compatible with AVCHD!
Would you be able to advise on a couple more of my "newbie" file format questions?
How do the settings work between setting the initial PROJECT format, and then choosing the various OUTPUT (sharing) settings. For example, if I want to edit a project using AVCHD clips only, and output it to DVD quality to watch on a PC or burn to DVD disk, do I get the same thing if I set the project setting to PAL AVCHD High Def 1080 5.1 and then the share setting to DVD quality output, as I would if I set the project settings to DV 48hz and the share setting to DVD quality output?
My ideal would be to retain the High Definition of the footage through the editing process and then be able to output to DVD quality now, but to be able to come back to the finished edited project in the future and choose to output it to Blueray when I have upgraded my TV and bought a blueray player. i.e. I am trying to make my filming and edited projects a bit futureproof....
Finally, I am just not up enough on all the different format lingos (Mpeg1, MPeg2, H.116 etc) to know what I should be choosing from the list for:
    1) outputting edited footage to burn onto a DVD to be used on a DVD player
    2) outputting edited footage to save onto a PC to view in the best possible quality on a PC
    Do you know?
    Many thanks
