Premier Elements 12 auto-save location

My daughter is working in Premier Elements 12 on a .mov file.  She did about 2 hours of movie editing and the program shut down unexpectedly.   The program was saving as she went, but she can not find her file.  Any ideas on where the program would put the auto-saved files?

Cjenzo
If she is working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit and installed everything to its default locations, the the AutoSaves will be saved in the path...and will be found in the Adobe Premiere Elements Auto-Save Folder at the end of the path

  • Auto-Save location for Photoshop CC?

I'm not sure if this is possible or not, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I had a layered PSD file that I temporarily merged to move onto a different PSD file I was working on. By mistake I accidently closed and saved the original PSD file merged; therefore, losing all of my layers in the process. I am wondering if there is a way to recover a past "saved" version of this document or not?
I have already tried a couple of different methods which have brought no results, such as looking in the Autorecover folder under C:/Users/USERNAME/Appdata/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/AutoRecover. I have also tried searching for .tmp files with no luck.
I understand that I may be at a loss here, but I'm just wondering if finding the past version of this file is possible or not.
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
    System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.

One thing I have personally taken away from this forum, is to periodically save a big project with new names.  In fact I have very nearly messed up more than once by overwriting a good version of a saved document with a bad one.
Same thing applies to backups.  Shadow Protect makes 15 minute incremental backups, but I don't have a routine system of rotating backups, so could find myself with a bad version in the back up as well.  So I try to bypass this by manually backing up my currebt projects folder to a different location at least once a day.
I seem to have lost more than my share of disk drives in the last few years, and some of it my own fault.  But the bottom line is I haven't lost a jot of data despite that, and was even able to carry on with minimume inconvenience when my main system was out of commission for more than two weeks recently, by simply attaching my USB3 external backup drives to my laptop.
Shadow Protect cost me $100, and USB3 externals are both fast and relatively cheap nowadays.  I don't even want to think about the consequence of loosing data.

  • Adobe premier element disk pile up

It seems like som working files i premier element gets left on the c disk even after deleting projekts. I can´t find those files on my c disk and I dont know what file ending they have.

Have you followed our advice and created a new folder whenever you create a new project? If so, all of these files will be saved in that folder and removing them, once you're finished with your project is as simple as deleting the folder.
Otherwise, you'll need to manually delete these files. They're locating the following folders, in the same directory where you saved your project file:
    Adobe Premiere Elements Auto-Save
    Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files
    Encoded Files
    Stop Motion Capture
If you're interested, I've got many more tips and tricks for working more efficiently (and saving you a lot of time and trouble) in my books.

why does adobe premier elements render my video everytime i change something in it even when i have lots more of the video to edit? other editing software only seems to render at the start then lets you edit until your ready to save at the end.  Constant rendering means its almost impossible to edit anything. Please help.

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running? It will not influence my answer but will give me information in case I need to get into version specifics to detail my answer further.
Timeline rendering is a preview matter. It does not fix anything, but it is your window of opportunity to catch of problem sooner than latter. If the Timeline rendering indicator displays orange (11 or higher) for the line above the Timeline content, that is the project telling you that you are not getting the best possible preview of the playback of that content in the Edit area monitor. And, every time you edit a file, you have altered the file from the time before. So, if you want to see the best possible for what you now have, you Timeline render. This is particularly helpful when you are dealing with titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats. You cannot turn off the Timeline render indicator system, at least none that I have ever found nor seen reported. You can do selective Timeline rendering by having the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar span only the Timeline segment that you want Timeline rendered.
Consequently, you either ignore the Timeline render indicator system, move on in the project, and take your chances in the outcome or you Timeline render to get your best possible preview if the Timeline render indicator is suggesting that you do so.
I am not approving or disapproving of this project feature, just commenting on the what is.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. If you want to have your voice heard at Adobe, you might consider filing an Adobe Feature Request Bug Report Form.

    Please consider.

Add On...it is also possible to do Timeline rendering in a project, save close the project, and reopen it to find your previously "green" lined content now "orange", indicating unrendered. Yet the preview files generated originally by Timeline rendering are still existing in their hard drive save location. That is another story for other time.

  • Auto Analyzer in Premier Elements 11

I've never before owned or used any video software.   I just purchased and installed Premier Elements 11.
I searched for "Updates", which the program found.  After starting to download, I received an error dialog to the effect of: -- cannot proceed; must first uninstall "Elements Auto Analyzer".
What the heck was that, I thought.  I had no idea, but I am familiar with the Windows boot procedure, so I went to "msconfig>Startup", and sure enough, I found "Elements Auto Analyzer".  I unchecked it, closed msconfig, and rebooted the computer.  Now that "Elements Auto Analyzer" was not running, the update to Premier Elements 11 downloaded and installed without a problem.
Ok, I am familiar with Windows’ "msconfig"; but what about others?  How do most people update Premier Elements 11?  So I rooted around as I was exploring this brand-new-to-me program.  I stumbled upon "Organizer>Media Analysis>Run Analyzer on System Startup", and its associated checkbox.
So I ask, what is this Media Analysis tool?  Should I leave the box checked, knowing that it then loads this Auto Analyzer tool upon every system startup?  Or should I uncheck the box so that the Auto Analyzer does not automatically load.
If helpful, know that I purchased Premier Elements 11 for the purpose of capturing, editing and burning DVDs from video on my old VHS tapes.
    Thank you for your assistance,
    Howard

As I use a similar program, Adobe Bridge (with Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.), I am only speculating a bit here.
I would run Auto Analyzer one time (might take a bit, depending on the number of Images and Videos on one's system and the speed of the computer), to establish the Albums (or whatever they are called in Organizer), and then turn it OFF, so it does not fire up, whenever an Image, or Video is added to the system, then run it once more, manually, before using Organizer with PrE. I do not like having a lot of programs running in the background, especially if the are likely to pop up and begin cataloging, whenever I make a simple change, like Coping over some Video files from a flash card. I want complete control.
Now, Steve, who is the guru, on all things PrE, might have different advice, so go with his, over mine, any day.
    Happy editing,
    Hunt

  • How to save an edited viceo clip in premier elements 11 to my organizer (windows 07)?

This is not Adobe. We are Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users with their Premiere Elements workflows. Under those conditions, only Adobe may have the opportunity to access your computer in troubleshooting session between you and them. You can use the following link to contact Adobe via its Adobe Chat.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?product=premiere-elements&topic=using-my-product-or-se rvice
When the link opens, click on the statement "I still need help" to bring up Adobe Chat.
I have no idea if they will charge you a fee for the service ($40 US dollar/hour). It might not even help you (fee or no fee) because you do not have the latest version of Premiere Elements.
What you ask is easy enough. Let me try again with a step by step to see if we can get this working for you in principle and then fine tune the details.
    1. Export your Timeline to a file, using Publish+Share/Computer and then one of the choices
Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, AVCHD, AVI, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, Audio. I do not know what your project settings are, but I am going to guess at NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD1080i30. That would represent 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second.
The following is going to be a mini test run in principle so we will cut to the core and overlook some things.
    Go to Publish + Share/Computer/AVCHD/ and set Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
Note that there is a field for Save In: near where you set Presets. Set the Save In for Libraries/Documents not C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe  Premiere Elements 11. Keep out of the Program Files for matters such as these.
Go to the Elements Organizer 12 File Menu/Get Photos and Videos/From Files and Folders and then browse to and select your MP4 file that you have saved in Libraries/Documents.
You now should have your video represented in the Elements Organizer 12 with a thumbnail.
Please let us know if that works for you. If not, then please let us know where you need supplemental help to get the task completed. I will re-write if necessary.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.
    ATR
Add On...A little side note for later...If you took your file saved to the computer hard drive and imported that back into Premiere Elements with Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and Folders, you would get
    a. the file imported into a new project
    but also
    b. a copy of the file automatically placed in the Elements Organizer 12.
If the ideas seem overwhelming, please take the steps on one at a time and follow exactly what is written. You should do fine.

  • Premier Elements 4 (Mac) download location

Since Premier Elements 7 is not out yet for Mac, I want to try PE4. I can't find the download link for this. What is the dl link for Premier Elements 4 (mac) trial?

    Christopher,
I understand. That's why I mentioned the steep price. It's a wonderful program (I've been using CS2 for some years now and love it), but only viable for someone doing NLE work professionally, or a very dedicated hobbiest with deep pockets.
Other than the dedicated Mac programs, like FCP, I do not know which other NLE's are ported for the Mac. I believe that the iMovie thru FCP group have the majority of the market share.
Now that Macs (certain flavors) offer PC compatibility with many programs, there might be other options. Unfortunately, I do not know what works, what does not and what might be made to work. In the Premiere Pro forums, there are now a lot of Mac folk, using all sorts of X-platform and adapted PC programs. There might well be people there, who can give you more, and more correct info. Back when CS3 was current, Adobe had the forum split for PC & Mac users. In CS4 they are combined. Still, a post to the CS4 forum might yield suggestions for you, other than PP CS4. I wish that I was more knowledgable, regarding all things Mac, but am just an old PC-guy. I do know that a lot of users really like FCP & FC Express though. The "Express" version might offer what you want at a more palatable price.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to make Premier Elements 8 work...

As many may have figured out by now, Premier Elements 8 is not exactly pristene...  Hopefully Adobe will get us all a working version in the next few months.  In the meantime here are a couple of tips:
First if you're using a 64bit Operating System, Premier Elements 8 does not support it and may not work properly no matter what you do    However, if you are using Windows 7 Professional 64bit or Ultimate 64bit you're in luck... you can set up Premier Elements 8 to run in Windows XP mode which runs under a 32bit virtual machine.  If you're using Vista or XP 64bit you're pretty much stuck with what you've got...
Now for everyone using a 32bit Operating System (including those using Windows XP mode inside Windows 7), here's the best way to get a working Premier Elements 8 working... bypass the welcome screen / organizer.   Now the file names may be different depending on when you got your version of PrE8, and the locations may be different depending on which OS you're using.  These instructions are for Windows XP 32bit versions:
1> delete your desktop shortcut for Premier Elements 8
2> use "my computer" and navigate to the folder  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements 8.0
3> find the two application files that begin "Adobe Premiere Elements".   The one that ends in 8.0 opens the welcome screen / organizer which you do not want to use, right click the one that does not end in 8.0 and select "Send to Desktop"
4> now sitback & enjoy using your crash free version of Premier Elements 8.0 *
    * Okay, that won't fix EVERYTHING, but it has fixed 95% of my crashes and has helped several others.
Also, if you find PrE8 taking excessively long amounts of time to complete certain tasks including saving your work, adding or deleting effects/annotations/transitions, etc... dissable "background rendering" by going to Edit Menu > Preferences > General & uncheck the box marked "enable background rendering", you may also want to go to the "Auto Save" portion of the preferences & change your auto save settings, I have mine set to save every 5 minutes, though for the average user 10 minutes is probably plenty unless you continue to have problems despite the steps above.
Oh & for those also using Photoshop Elements 8.0 the same bypass can lead to happier photoshopping   but with PhotoshopElementsEditor as the file you want to create a desktop shortcut for...

I'd like to blame your failure on Vista... as I recall, you're running Vista 32bit... but since my only experiences with Vista are from fixing other peoples computers that have Vista installed... I'll refrain for now
The delays in actions (deleting transitions, etc...) could be from background rendering hogging resources... It does the same thing on my pathetic old PC, which is why I mentioned it as well in my OP.
But beyond that, I'm not going to be much help for a Vista user cause I have no real-world experience with that plague...

  • Windows shuts down Premier Elements 9 randomly

I have a more than adequate Windows 7 based computer.  My hard drive died before Christmas and I had to reinstall the software.  I created a new project with captured video and added some background music.  Did not save often unfortunately and lost it all when windows shut down the program.  Recreated it from scratch, saving often and still had occasional shut downs while creating the project.  It's only about a 30min video with some added sound tracks and a few title screens.  Now, when trying to make a DVD, it gets through Encoding 4 Menus and will begin encoding media.  Sometimes makes it 7% sometimes 80% and then windows message says program has stopped working, shutting down.  I see progress bar was still moving just seconds before the shutdown.  Tried to convert to an MPEG and save on my computer instead and got the same shutdown notice.  I just saw the FFDShow codec note and have not checked to see if that is on my computer or not.  Would deleting this folder potentially solve this?  Forgot to mention, Premier Elements is on non partitioned C drive with 100+GIG free space, save location is on a partitioned drive F with 300+GIG free space.

Is there an update link for Premier 9?  I saw one come through this morning for 9.0.3 but the one in your "Hangs UP" thread is only for 9.0.1.  Tried to update to 9.0.3 but would not connect to Adobe server this morning.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on and does the computer use a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card?
Please read the Announcement at the top of this forum on the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Ge Force issue which forces the user to roll back the driver version to around May 2013 in order to work with Premiere Elements 10. For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of that Announcement.
Announcement:Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are
experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of
troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained
workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video
card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as
far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013
in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this
regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for the driver
    roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
Do you run the program with the AutoSave feature On? If so, please check the Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave Folder which should be (by default)
in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0 Then right click the latest AutoSave for this crashed project and select Open With Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0.
Where do you save the project.prel for this project?
Can you go to that hard drive save location (probably LIbraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10.0), right click the project.prel file, and select
Open With Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0.
If necessary, I will post instructions for deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 10.0 Folder in which it exists.
We will be watching for your details and results.
    Thank you.

  • PE 13 - Project not compatible with current version of premier elements

I have PE 13 (recently installed on a system that also has PE 10)
I archived in PE 10 to a location, openend up the project with PE 13 and it appears to open just fine.  I then save and close it and try to open it up a 2nd time and it fails with the error: "Project Not compatible with current version of premier elements"
I attempted to move all the media outside of the "Copied_XXX" folder per the troubleshooting steps, but it still fails even with all the media in a different location.  Funny thing is that it knows about the media still because it appears in the loading content status bar at the very bottom left of the screen.  it completes all 600 or so loads, but they are definitely not on timeline or listed in project assets.
Windows 7 Professional is the OS.

There is no guarantee that a project created in an earlier version will open in a later one. The classical recommendation is to finish a project in the version in which it is created.
If you do want to try to edit the project created in the earlier version in the later version, then make sure to work from a copy of the original. Once you edit the project created in the earlier version in the later version, you cannot go back to edit the later version edited project in the earlier version.
If you have your Premiere Elements 10 project archived, then you do not want to go moving copies of the project's source media outside that Copied Folder. The copy of the project file in that folder needs to trace back to that copied media in that Copied Folder. What you are seeing in Premiere Elements 13 is probably conforming of audio and video files, processing of rendered files, and such, maybe even some indexing. You do not want to proceed in Premiere Elements 13 until you do not see any further activity in the progress bar at the bottom right of the workspace. Have Premiere Elements 10 and 13 been on the same computer?
How did you open the project file in the Copied Folder - right clicked the project file, Open With, and then selected Adobe Premiere Elements 13? What is the duration of the Timeline of the original project in 10?
Have you been working with a copy of the Copied Folder and its contents?
More on this in the morning.
