Premier Elements 8 won't open the second time

After I installed Pre8 I went in, changed my preferences and created a 'dummy' project just to see how it worked. After I exited I tried to restart the program and it wouldn't open (either "New Project" or "Open Project"). The progress indicator spins and spins and then stops. Organizer opens right up. I tried all the steps in KB article 51427 with no results. I've installed the program 4 times at this point. I then used a system image I had created in Win7 to roll back my system to when it was freshly installed to avoid conflicts with other programs and installed Pre8 again with all the defaults. No difference. The only 'odd' thing is when I try step 5 in the troubleshooter - recreate the preferences folder - I get an error message saying that "the folder or a file in it is open in another program".  All the other steps in the troubleshooter don't help but I don't get an error message with them. At this point there are no other programs installed except for the OS itself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

SKTGH87,
Very sorry but I have nothing to do with Adobe. I am an ordinary user of
Premiere Elements 8.0 as you are.
I tried all the suggested remedies and now my PrE is rather stable. But I
can't  say which of them helped.
Good luck!
Alexander

It is an answer to SKTGH87's message which somehow appeared in my postbox. I replied and to my surprise this personal reply appeared here in the forum. It's time for me to start studing forum tricks.

  • Elements 10 won't open a second time

    Hi,
    I am running on the Windows 7 platform - 64bit system - 4GB Ram - 488GB free disk space.
When I first start up Elements 10 it opens fine. If I close the program and then go back it will not open up a second time from ether the desktop or the exe file in the program file.
If I re-boot, it performs in exactly the same way as above. If I go directly a photo and say open up with Photoshop this works fine.
Has anyone had this problem? if so can you please help.
    Regards
    Keith

If it's leaving a zombie process, that's not part of the application's programming. It certainly never happens on my computer. Plus, the Welcome screen itself is a separate executable, even if it is itself left open, this will not prevent the Editor or Organizer from launching.
Far be it for me to accuse Adobe of intentionally creating zombies!
However, here on Win7 x64, running in a standard user account, when the Editor or Organizer is launched from the Unwelcome Screen there is often (not always) a zombie process left running.  It can be seen in the Task Manager's "Processes" tab, and killing that process allows the Editor or Organizer to be launched again.

However, if we are encountering an issue here with permissions, it could be a result of launching the Editor/Organizer (by the way is it one, the other, or both?) because the system, for whatever reason, requires hightened permissions that are not granted when one application launches another.
I'll leave it to the product development team to determine whether or not it's a permissions issue.  I use the recommended Best Practices for computing -- only running by logging in as a standard user account.  My opinion is that except for specialized system maintenance software (and installation procedures) no software should require running as an administrator.

But the OP does mention that even launching from the executable, not just the desktop shortcut, exhibits the same behavior.
That is consistent with the effects of the zombie process.

  • Panel won't open the first time

The accordion works fine on this page, but the first panel won't open the first time.
It only opens the second time you click on it.
The other panels are fine....any ideas?

You need to remove defaultPanel: -1 from your script:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var acc1 = new Spry.Widget.Accordion("Accordion1", { useFixedPanelHeights: false, defaultPanel: -1 }); </script>
This is near the bottom of your document.  You may as well delete this entire line, though, because you have a duplicate below that doesn't have the defaultPanel:-1 variable.

  • Premier Elements 11 Won't Open!

Hi! I am running a HP Personal Computer with Windows 7. I have been using Elements 11 for months without problem and have been very pleased with the product.
I went to open it today and was unable to. It would not load past the "Welcome Screen," which seemed to be working fine. If I try to open a file, or a new project, it will load indefinately. If I go to the files directly and bypass the Welcome Screen, it will open the loading screen, but will not get passed "Initializing applications." After a couple minutes, I will get an error message saying the program has shut down. I have tried to uninstall it, but the uninstall process would not move forward and then it shut down. I re-entered my seriel number, and that whole process worked fine. I've tried opening many files with no positive results.
I used the program a few days ago without problem. I remember something similar happening to Elements 8 when I was using it, but I forgot how I fixed it.
    Help?

    HiddenWhiteFang,
If Steve's FAQ does not fix things for you, my next step would be to check the video driver.
What is the make and model of your video card/chip?
What is the date and number of the installed video driver?
Is that the latest version from the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site?
If not, then I would download and install the latest, for your model of card/chip and your OS version, and test.
PrE needs to interface directly with the video driver. All sorts of things can render the video driver obsolete, such as a simple OS update - things work one day, along comes the OS update, and suddenly things do not work at all. Simple programs, like Word, etc., do NOT have to interface with the video driver, much at all, so they continue to work well.
I would try the suggestions in that FAQ on licensing first, and if it works, wonderful. If not, check that video driver.
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop Elements does not start for the second time

    Hello,
our customer has problem with PS Elements 12. He can start it for the first time and everything works fine. But when he closes the program and tries to start it again, it will not start. It doesnt even say anything. No error mesages or anything. He tried to instal a trial version of PS E 13 and it does the same thing.
    He's running Win 7 SP1 64 bit
    Any sugestions? Thank you.

    Hi,
It has been known that the Welcome screen sometimes fails to close properly and prevents a second load.
Most people have overcome the problem by creating a shortcut direct to the two main applications.

  • IDVD won't open a second time!

I create movies with iMovie HD (as I am really very disappointed in the newer version), then move it to iDVD. Everything works fine and runs great. I can even make a disk image and burn a DVD. BUT...... when I close iDVD and then try to open it again, it refuses to open the movie I just made! This happens about half the time I make movies.
    Examples:
~ I made a very large movie of a vacation we just took (in iMovie) and it would not even import into iDVD... I had to break the movie up into three different movies so I could!
~ The last one I made is very small (smaller than many of the others I have made in the past). While it goes in fine and I have successfully made a DVD, it now refuses to open at all in iDVD!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anytime an application does not work properly, you need to delete its preference file. Close iDVD. Go to your Home folder (YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new one when you relaunch it.
Reopen iDVD and see if it is more stable now.
If not, close it again, and open Disk Utility. Select your computer's drive by its name, and choose to 'repair disk permissions.'
    Now try iDVD again.
If still not working properly, you should log onto your computer as a different person/account.
If it still does not reopen properly, you need to reinstall iDVD.

  • I use a Nikon d610 and my Photoshop Elements 10 won't open in camera raw. How can I fix it? The camera version is 6.7.0339

i'm using a Nikon D610 now and Photoshop Elements 10 won't open files in camera raw. How can I fix the issue? The version of camera raw is 6.7.0339

    Hi,
The D610 requires camera raw 8.3 which is not compatible with your PSE 10.
You need to upgrade to PSE 12 (or later) or use the free Adobe DNG converter. The converter will take a flder containg your NEF files and converte them to DNG files. The DNG files can then be used by PSE 10.

What is the computer operating system for your HP computer? And, since it is a HP computer, does it use more than one video card/graphics card.
Premiere Elements has problems with that 2 card system. Please tell us the card situation as shown in Device Manager/Display Adapters.

    1. Running computer from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and Run As Administrator applied to desktop icon?

    3. Did you install the program to the default, Drive C location?
    4. Does the problem exist with and without antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?

  • Premier Element 8 can't open any project on Windows 7

Once again my Premier Element 8 can't open any project on Windows  7 (64-bit).  This  is same problem that happened to me 6 months ago.  I reported it to the online  Adobe support, but got no help.  Eventually I worked around it on my  own.  Now the problem is back and I can not open any project, even after  rebooting.  The behavour that I see is that I can open a new or old  project, but the Premier window shows-up as having zero size.  The bug  has something to do with the Premier program thinking that the window  size should be zero.  The program shows-up in the active task list, and  the Alt-Tab key shows Premier window has only a window title bar (where  as other active programs show-up as a thumbnail image of their window  contents), and the system taskbar also shows the Premier program as active but only as a window title bar (see attached image below)
When  I reported to the online Adobe support forum 6 months ago that I had worked around  the problem, the answer was something like "good that you fix it", BUT Adobe  did not seem to be interested in understanding and fixing the problem.  They just seem relieved when customers can figure-out work-around on  their own.  I see that another peron just reported this same problem on the Adobe forums, and got the same treatment.  He also found a work-around, and the support person replied when "that's nice".  This really bites me where it hurts.  I'm burning  non-productive hours because of their bugs, and they don't care enough  about the bugs to get engineering to fix them.  It's things like this  that make me look for another software vendor.
But today I really do need to work on my video project.  If there is a document work-around for the "Premier show a zero-sized window" bug, PLEASE let me know about it.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
    -- Ole Pa

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for looking at this on Saturday, and for your question.  What I mean by a "zero sized window" is that Premier's window has been created and the program is running, but when I give Premier focus nothing is shown on the screen.  I know the program is running because I can see it on the Windows taskbar, in the Alt-Tab list, and in the task manager's list of running programs.  When I use the Windows taskbar to alternately show and hide the window, it behaves normally, except when I show it nothing shows on the screen.  Also, when Premier starts up, I do see it loading the project, but when the project loads the window disappears. Premier has this annoying design of starting with its window maximized, and then automatically resizing the window to what it thinks is the size that I want.  When the bug is active, the size seems to be zero, or minimized, or off the screen, or who knows what.  Just not anything that I can see.  The little thumbnail that Windows 7 shows of running programs on the taskbar makes be think the window has been resized so that it is zero pixels wide and zero pixels high.
In my earlier report of this bug, I described it as "minimizing to the taskbar" because that is what it appeared to doing at that time.  Here is a link to my earlier report:
       http://forums.adobe.com/thread/704857
That thread has screen snapshots that show the visual atrifacts of the bug on Windows 7.  I experienced the same bug again this morning.  The workaround that I had done last year did not work this morning.  Here is what I did to recover this time:
Uninstalled Premier Elements 8.  Deleted my personal setting, and also "smart sound".
    Rebooted my PC.
Installed Premier Element 8 from the CD.
    Rebooted my PC
Things were still not quite right.  In fact the bug appeared to still be there, but all of a sudden it started showing me the window after the project was loaded.  Sigh.  I will never launch that little startup program again (the one behind the desktop icon), and only open ".prel" files directly.  Not sure if that will help or not, but at least it takes one variable out of the startup procedure.
I wish that I could tell you how to reproduce the bug, but in fact I do not know what I do to provoke it.  My PC is
    - Dell XPS9000 (Intel i7, 3.33GHz, 12GB ram, 4.5 TB disk)
    - Windows 7 Ultimate
    - Two 24 inch LCD displays
    - Runs several Adobe programs (like PS, LR, Acrobat).
Don't get me wrong:  I love Adobe software.  You are the best in the graphic arts industry.  That's why I buy and run your stuff.  But when I have a deadline hanging over my head, and I have to spend 1/2 day getting the software to just come up, I get crazy and want to herd feed animals for a living!  Maybe I'll have to do that if the economy does not improve in 2011...
    Thanks, Ole Pa

  • Adobe premier elements 12 will not open.

    Hi
My Adobe Premier Elements 12 will not open.
It did open about 12 hours ago when I was busy working on video edits. Then I closed it, went to sleep and got up in the morning to carry on editing - bt it wont open anymore. There are no error messages coming up.
I double clicked on the icon on my desks top, as well as tried oeping it from the start menu - same responce - nothing happens.
what can the problem be ?
If I uninstall and then reinstall - will this affect any of my videos that I am editing but have not rendered or saved yet ?
thanks - I need help urgently.
    LorenzoChetty

    Lorenzochetty,
    Welcome to the forum.
As one of the main reasons for PrE to not launch is the video driver (more on that in a moment), can you provide us with some details, please?
What OS version are you running PrE 12 on?
What is the make and model of your video card/chip (GPU)?
What is the installed version of the video driver?
Is that the latest from the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site?
Also, what anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-anything software are you running?
If you are on Windows, and have Windows updates set to Automatic (the default), then a simple OS Update can render the video driver obsolete.
Good luck, and let us know more please.

a single user license entitles the user to install and activate on up-to two computers.  but that license doesn't really permit that 2nd installation to be used by another person.
so, if you son was the user on your computer he could sign in using his adobe id on your computer and use pse on your computer (as well as his own -  but not both computers at any one time).
if a 2nd user (you) wanted to use pse, they should purchase their own license.
