Premier Elements Video Degradation

The Background.
For the past three years, I've been dabbling in video projects and have learned to become pretty good at it (if I do say so myself).  I own three Sony Handycams now (Model number DCR-DVD650) which record onto memory cards, not mini dvds.  I've gotten so good at the videos that they are now earning an impressive, part time salary for me.
Here's the basic problem:  I take the video using the HD setting (I want quality video, not quantity).  When I important the video from the camera to my computer, they are .mpgs.  I select the videos that I want and merely discard the 'wastes of time.'
When I attempt to add the 'raw video' (that's what I call them) to my Adobe Premier Elements project, a window pops up that says 'Unsupported Audio Rate in File.'  So, I use the Sony PMB Video program (which came with the Camera) to convert the videos to .WMVs.  Then, Adobe will happily accept them.
By the time I am done with the project, I render the video project to a .WMV and then post it on Youtube, Facebook, etc.
The Challenge
When I begin the project (at the point of the videos within the camera), I could not be happier with my work.  By the time the videos make it through two conversions, a rendering and a YouTube filter, they lose 50% of their quality.  So eventhough the video project is completed to my satisfaction, I often receive comments like, 'David, GREAT video!  But when I maximize the video on YouTube/Facebook, it gets really grainy.'  Other people comment - 'You make GREAT videos.  Too bad you don't have a good enough camera.'
The Question.
How do I get the 'raw' video from the camera to the Premier Elements project without losing quality?  I really want to take the crisp, vivid from inside the camera and insert it into the Premier Elements project as it is.  What can I do to make this happen?  Is there another software system I can purchase?  Perhaps a trick from the backend of the video?
The Disclaimer.
Although I have vast experience taking video and my editing skills are worthy of bragging about, I probably do not have 1% of the techincal jargon embedded in my brain.  Simple solutions, please.

Thanks to the both of you for your assistance.  I won't like and pretend to understand everything that you are mentioning.  I certainly have no ego to bruise in this department.  I am the founder of a very large organization that began helping businesses in an attempt to get customers.
Version of Pre Elements
Two years ago, I purchased Pre Elements 1.0 off of Ebay for $25.00 and began learning the basics.  Now, two years later, I have version 4.0 and recently purchased 7.0.  I haven't downloaded 7.0 yet.  There's so much to learn!
So now, local businesses are willing to pay me to continue making more videos for their businesses.  Now, my value is beginning to outweigh my knowledge.  Time to really learn this stuff (video making).
Barb O., by 'what type of project', what do you mean by that? I've reviewed the preferences section and I can't ascertain how the project is 'identified.'
Anyway, as I mentioned before, the videos (right out of the camera) are beautiful - crisp and clear. If I can learn how to take the 'raw' video and merely convert it so I can use it on Pre Elements, I can render the final product as a Mpeg and go from there.
Like I said earlier in this thread, everyone loves my videos but merely wishes that the end result was much 'crisper.'
Is there maybe another video making software system that is more 'forgiving' in terms of accepting raw video from the cameras?
And I want to say again.....thank you for your comments, assistance and advice.

I just installed version 12 of Adobe Premier Elements on my Windows 7 (64) system and am unable to open Video Editor.  I receive a message that the display driver is not current and a newer version would make the program run more efficiently.  After some time, the video editor stops trying to load.  I have verified all windows updates are loaded and that I have the most current Quicktime version.  I have also unloaded and reloaded Adobe Premier Elements but this issue continues to persist.  Please assist.

  • I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files.  It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5.  I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them.  I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.
    Thanks again for any help!!!!

It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?

  • AVI files loaded in Premier Elements 7 only show audio and not video.

I am a new user of Premier Elements 7 and am having problems getting the video into a new project I set up. I have 6 AVI v1.0 clips that play both audio and video in Windows 7, but when I set up a project and import them, I only get the audio side and not the video side. I can drag the audio to the timeline and can play the audio just fine. But it is missing the video. I must be doing something wrong, but am new enough that I don't know where to turn.
I have been reading the forums and taking tutorials, so I think I know the steps to import a video into PRE7. I've tried many things, but still no video. I downloaded GSpot and found that my files have video H264 (H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) and audio oxooo2 (ADPCM). The codecs seem to be installed on my Windows 7 computer.
Can someone point me in the right direction on what to do next. I'm a computer professional with 50 years of experience, so am no dummy, but am new to PRE7. Thanks in advance.

I found a mini-CD that came with the product. When I loaded it on my computer, one of the options was to install a device driver. I did this and now I can see the video in PRE7. So, I think this solves my problem.
I applaud the mfgr. of the Insignia. This is the way that it should be with ALL cameras, that do not use a miniDV tape, or precise CODEC, that is mainstream. All too often, the mfgrs. tweak an existing CODEC, and just leave the customer hanging, trying to find a way to edit the footage. A couple of major mfgrs. come immediately to my mind.
Others, who use CODEC's, like Xvid, that is so heavily compressed, that even converting it to an editable format/CODEC results in such horrible footage, that no one would ever be satisfied with the finished product.
    <Soapbox Mode Off>
Glad that you are now up and editing. For my education, what does G-Spot say about the CODEC in the Insignia footage? At least next time that I encounter it, I can say - "look in the box, and install the driver to get the CODEC."
    Thanks for reporting,

  • Premier Elements 7 - confusion over mixing video formats

    Hi
I have been using a DV camcorder (SD quality) for some time, originally recording in 4:3 format, and more recently in 16:9 format (as we bought a wide screen telly).
I have just treated myself to a new AVCHD Panasonic video recorder recording High Definition footage in 1080 16:9 PAL format onto an SD memory card.
I wanted to take all this footage and put it on my computer to edit it together and start making some films to keep for the future - on DVD for now, and at some point on Blue Ray. To this end I have just purchased Adobe Premier Element 7.0, with Photoshop Elements 7.0 bundled together.
My confusion is that it appears I can only use one format in a "project" as I need to define the parameters for the "project" in terms of SD vs HD and 4:3 vs 16:9. I was hoping to be able to store all of my footage of various quality definitions and screen ratils into a "library" (which I see is called "Organiser" in Adobe terms) on the hard disk, and then pick and choose from the "library" what to put into each "film project" as I make them, mixing formats as I wish. I realise that in this way, the output would itself switch from 3:4 to 16:9 etc on accasions as I switch scene to use a different format, and so may not appear to be the smoothest edit.... but I thought that would be my decision to do if I wanted it. Instead it appears I cannot mix a few minutes if 4:3 SD footage of my son as a baby, with more recent 16:9 1080 HD footage of him as a boy - which is a real shame as it is what I wanted to do....
Have I misunderstood, or am I right in thinking I am limited in this way?
Why can I mix still photos of any format with video , but not mix different formats of PAL video?
    Many thanks

    Thanks Paul
I have been having go, as you suggest, and as you said, I cannot edit my AVCHD footage in Scene mode as it has 5.1 audio (which I cannot change on the videocam) This is very disappointing as I really wanted the simplicity of the scene editing rather than timeline.... This is compounded by the fact that timeline editing seems even more complicated than normal as each new AVCHD clip I add is placed onto a different video track (not all on track 4 as you thought)- so it is real mess to work out on my screen.... Is this a bug, the way PRE treats 5.1 tracks - or is it just oversight and poor design? Do you think it might be addressed by Adobe?
Anyhow, thanks for explaining what is going on, as without your warning, I would have assumed that the PRE 7 sceneline feature was broken - you would have thought there would be some warning / documentation from Adobe about this, as effectively, a big feature is now unavailable to me as an AVCHD user - and the product claims to be compatible with AVCHD!
Would you be able to advise on a couple more of my "newbie" file format questions?
How do the settings work between setting the initial PROJECT format, and then choosing the various OUTPUT (sharing) settings. For example, if I want to edit a project using AVCHD clips only, and output it to DVD quality to watch on a PC or burn to DVD disk, do I get the same thing if I set the project setting to PAL AVCHD High Def 1080 5.1 and then the share setting to DVD quality output, as I would if I set the project settings to DV 48hz and the share setting to DVD quality output?
My ideal would be to retain the High Definition of the footage through the editing process and then be able to output to DVD quality now, but to be able to come back to the finished edited project in the future and choose to output it to Blueray when I have upgraded my TV and bought a blueray player. i.e. I am trying to make my filming and edited projects a bit futureproof....
Finally, I am just not up enough on all the different format lingos (Mpeg1, MPeg2, H.116 etc) to know what I should be choosing from the list for:
    1) outputting edited footage to burn onto a DVD to be used on a DVD player
    2) outputting edited footage to save onto a PC to view in the best possible quality on a PC
    Do you know?
    Many thanks

  • Using Adobe Premier Elements to create a video using the photos and it is make the photos blurry. Is there a setting to correct this?

as the subject states, i am suing Premier Elements pro to create a video using photos. The photos are clear then when you play the video they become blurry. I would guess there would be a way to correct this but not having much success. any helps would be great.

Thanks for the follow up. Right now I see details that do need addressing. For one, you are importing 3:2 photos into a project set for 16:9.
You still have not told us what version of Premiere Elements that you are using and on what computer operating system it is running. For now I will assume, Premiere Elements 13/13.1 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. NTSC setup.
Please try the following as a mini test run (just a few of your photos) to determine if the Timeline photos present better in the Edit area and in an export.
    1. Open Premiere Elements 13/13.1 to the Expert workspace and go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
    2. In Change Settings, change the settings to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR [email protected]
    OK out of there.
    3. In the New Project Dialog that now opens, rename the project and make sure that you have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Setting on This Project. OK out of there.
    4. Back in the Export workspace, import your photos using Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and Folders/Projects Assets from where you drag the photos to the Timeline. There will be an orange line over the Timeline content. Press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard. or the Render button above the Timeline to do Timeline rendering which will result in the best possible preview in the Edit area monitor.
Also, right click the Edit area monitor, select Playback Quality, and then determine if the "Highest" gives better results than "Automatic".
If all looks good, then let us look at the quality of a AVCHD.mp4 export of that Timeline....
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
Is the quality of the photos in this mini test run better, the same, or worse?
About your photos (3872 x 2592 3:2)...video is 4:3 or 16:9. So to avoid black borders, you could consider
    a. cropping the originals from 3:2 to 16:9 before import
    or
    b. importing them as is and doing any needed scaling in the Edit area monitor
But, right now the focus is on image clarity rather than black borders.
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

  • Premier Elements 2 not capturing video

I have operated Premier Elements 2 for some years, but I am currently having problems with the video capture. The controls operate the camera, the sound is on, but the picture does not appear and nothing downloads. I have reinstalled the program but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum.
The Capture process is only a byte-for-byte copy of the signal over the FireWire cable. If you are getting Device Control, plus the Audio, then something is not making its way across the cable, or though the connectors.
The first thing that I would look at is the FW cable. Try another one.
Next, do you have more than one FW connector (iLink, IEEE-1394) on your computer? Is so, they another one.
What is the make/model of your camera?
What is your Project Preset, and does it match the recording settings on your camera?
Have you updated your video drivers very, very recently? If not, do so immediately from the video card mfgr's. Web site.

  • Encoding Error for Premier Elements 3.0, when downloading video to DVD

I have been using Adobe Premier Elements 3.0 for three years without any serious problems. However, when I try to download my latest edited video from my camcorder, to DVD, it hangs up every time at exactly the same place. It starts "ENCODING MEDIA". When it reaches 49.83%, the programme stops and reports "TRANSCODING ERROR". In "HELP" I am advised to turn off all other programmes, including Firewalls and Antivirus programmes. I have done all this with no change in results. I have tried editing some more (around the 50% point). It still hangs up at exactly 49.83%. Can anyone advise me what is the problem, please? That's going to be a ridiculous waste of money and energy.
First of all, the current ATI drivers don't support multiple GPUs, so at the moment even a single 4870X2 would be only a 'normal' 4870 (which is quite a speed beast already). GFX drivers evolve rapidly, so things might look different next month, but when it comes to Linux and hardware there's one Golden Rule: stay away from the newest stuff and wait for proper support to get coded.
I also wonder what power supply could possibly cope with the differences between idle and full load; that's way beyond 400W. But then, I'm one of those "quiet&green" types where >100W idle is already a bit much.
I kind of understand that you want to get it done and not worry about hardware for the next 10 years or so, but that's simply not how the hardware world works and never did. At least not for the average consumer.

  • How do I play videos with premier elements 10

I have just uploaded some mixed photos and videos to my computer using adobe premier elements 10 but I cant play the videos. A box appears saying i need the compression de compression codex. Where do Iget these?

It is very likely that those Videos contain a CODEC, that is not installed on your computer. The file extensions, such as AVI, MOV, WMV, etc., are but "wrappers," and so very much can be contained within those wrappers. This ARTICLE goes into more detail, and tells you how to "peek inside the wrapper." That is why Steve is asking about the camcorder, that created the files - to find out what the CODEC is, that is inside the wrapper.
If the files use a CODEC, that PrE can use (very many, but not even close to all), it might be as simple as locating that CODEC, downloading and installing it, then rebooting. For more info on CODEC's in general, see this ARTICLE.

I am a professional photographer of many years standing and at the moment I have a student for 12 months, who I am teaching how to use various Adobe programs, but to introduce her to video editing, I have purchased Adobe Premier Elements 13 which is less complicated than the Premier Pro that I use. The program works perfectly, except for one thing.... when adding a title to the short video sequence we are working with, if I use a particular font (Metallophile Sp8) which I obtained from my Adobe Typekit, it crashes the program,.... all other fonts work perfectly....can anybody help me please?

    clivephoto
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on? And what video card/graphics card does this computer use?
From your description, can I assume that this Mettallophile Sp8 font is being recognized by Premiere Elements 13 to the extent
that it can be seen and remains seen in Titler's list of font choices - even after the crashes?
If you opened a new project, imported nothing, and created a text title in the Titler with this Mettallophile Sp8 font, does the program crash?
Please review the following which discuss fonts and Premiere Elements and determine if anything in it helps.

    What computer operating system?
Please excuse the question, but I do not want to take anything for granted. Did you install Adobe Premiere Elements 11? It is a separate install.
    If you did.....
Assuming Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit for now, when you go to Control Panel/Programs is Adobe Premiere Elements 11 listed there?
    And...
    If you go to
    Local Disc C
    Program Files
    Adobe
    Adobe Premiere Elements 11
do you find a file in the Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Folder named Adobe Premiere Elements.exe? If so, please double click that. Does
Premiere Elements 11 open to the workspace bypassing the Welcome Screen?
What happens if you insert the Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Adobe Premiere Elements11 installation disc in the burner tray, select Adobe Premiere Elements
11 for installation? Does the installation proceed or are you meet with a process which wants to uninstall rather than install?
Please review and consider. Then based on your answers, we can decide what next.
