Premier Elements vs. Pro for Pan and Zoom Photo Slide Shows

I am a professional architectural photographer. I need to create videos using a set of photos, and I need the ability to pan and zoom to specific parts of each photo.  I need to be able to tell the software where to pan from and to, and where to zoom in or out.  For example, I might start at the left side of a photo, pan toward the left side of the photo, then stop panning and zoom in.  I need to control the speed of the pan and zoom, and control where they happen within each photo.  I will not be dealing with video, only still photos.
I have seen a video demonstrating this capability in in Premier Pro.  Can it also be done in Premier Elements?

Please check out the Adobe document on it Pan and Zoom Tool and that feature's workspace
http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/pan-zoom-create-video-like.html
There is a difference using this tool for video versus stills. And, since you mention that you will be using just stills, I have
not gone into pan and zoom applied to video with this tool.
Please review and consider. If questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
Before any purchase decisions, good idea to look at the free 30 day tryout of Premiere Elements 13 from Adobe.

  • Is there an easy way to pan and zoom still slides in PE4?

Either i'm totally stupid, or why is it so hard to pan and zoom still slides in PE4?
I'm trying to create a slide show in PE4, and i want to pan and zoom on each slide -- nothing overly fancy, but i want to control where the beginning and end point is for each zoom. It's really easy to do this in PSE 6 -- it shows you green and red boxes for where the pans/zooms begin and end and you can just grab the boundaries and change them. in PE 4, it seems you have to use presets (which are only pans OR zooms) or resort to Keyframes which are very complicated and VERY POORLY explained in the Adobe PE4/PSE6 classroom in a book.
Is there an easy way to do pans and zooms without being a rocket scientist?

    Eric,
The ability to use Keyframing in infinitely powerful. However, with that power comes some hand-work.
However, once one has their head around the concept of Keyframing, the mechanics of it, plus the options, it becomes easy and second nature. It's getting to that point, that requires a bit of work and practice. I second Steve's tip link, as a great place to start. Once you become comfortable with the power, you'll likely never go back to any form of "Random Pan & Zoom."
Now, the work that I do is usually very tightly scripted. Each "move" depends on the exact subject and what I, or the director, want at that moment, with that image. I often have this part figured out, before I re-size the images for Import. If I need more Pan, then I'll go a bit larger. Less Pan and I'll get it right at the DVD frame size (720x480 PAR 0.9, in my case).
Learning which Panels to have open, and when, will go a long way to making the experience easier and more enjoyable, so setting up one's Workspace is very important. Big, honking monitors also make the editing experience more pleasant.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Where I could find the sample code for Pan and Zoom?

    hello all:
I saw a demo for showing how to implement Pan and Zoom in java. If I remember correctly it should be included in JAI, however I cannot find it in JAI sample demos any more.
THe only samples it included are
    * JAIDemo
    * JAIExampleApp/SampleDescriptor
    * JAIFileBrowser
    * JAIWarpDemo
    * JAIImageReader
    * FormatDemo
Does anyone know where I could find that demo back?
    Thank you

  • Exporting and I photo slide show to IDVD

I am trying to expoert a slideshow from Iphoto to IDVD the problem is that I have 2 songs on the slide show but after the export only one song will play. the slide show continues after the first song but not the music? I like the auto ken burns effect and the titles that I can include in iphoto so perfer to stay with that program to create the slide show instead of starting in iDVD. Any suggestions would be apprecated.

    Hi PKColorado,
You find find at least two other threads pertaining to this topic right here on this page.
Only one song exporting with Slideshows
Right now, this seems to be a know problem/bug. There have been some work-arounds. Don't know if the problem is with iPhoto, Quicktime or a combo of both.
-From Bob Worthington: re-ripping the cuts I wanted as background music for the DVD as a single cut in iTunes. I then made a playlist containing the one extended cut of music.
-Old Toad: share to Quicktime from iPhoto and then import the resulting movie into iMovie you can extract and delete the audio from the video and add the two songs to the video and save.
Quicktime Pro-open the movie and bring up the Movie Properties menu window. In the top window select the audio track and delete it.
If you want more than one song you'll have to join them together with iMovie or some other application. Then open that joined file with QT Player. Then do a select all and copy. Now go to the QT window of the movie and select the Edit->Add to Movie menu option. You don't want to scale it because it will change the play speed of the audio unless it's time is exactly the same as the movie.
You could go the other way, open the movie, select all and copy, and then past with scaling to the audio. That will change the speed of the movie and transitions to fit the audio track. In this case the resulting video file will have the name of the audio track file that you started with.
You may have to play with it a bit to get exactly what you want. Be sure to work with copies of all the media files for the project.
-Peter Burtwistle: I opened the Qt movie that iPhoto makes when you export to iDVD and removed the sound track.
Then made a new soundtrack by opening all three songs in QT, then cutting and pasting them together.
Finally use QT Pro's 'Add to Movie" option to add the soundtrack to the original movie.
This worked well and was fast to do too.
-Joe Lombardo: I ended up having to extend the songs by 20 seconds so I brought them all into GarageBand and made some edits. Then I exported them all to iTunes as a single track and used that for the slideshow
As an addendum to Bob Worthingtons solution. Create your playlist in iTunes.
burn the playlist to CD. Import into iTunes using the option to join tracks. Now use this tract for your slideshow.

  • Lightroom Resizing of Photos for PrE Pan and Zoom

Not knowing better, I tried my first PrE slide show project with huge RAW stills.  It worked without crashing or stalling.
For a year I've been learning and practiceing with Lightroom and like it a lot.  It has a very convient risizing tool.
I'm confused on a setting.  Bill Hunt used Photoshop in the article linked by John Smith.  It does not mention "pixels per inch".  Also, I'm setting the "long edge" at 1.5 x the original's 1920 to make room for Pan and Zoom.
I don't know what to do with "pixel per inch" to match or optimize for a AVCHD 1080p project.  I'm guessing at 140.
Screen shot of Lightroom export page:
Do these setting look like they make sense?  Should the pixels per inch be different?
    Thanks.
    Bill

I posted the same question in the Lightroom forum and got the answer that "ppi" settings are meaningless here.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5811248#5811248
While I was at it I tried several things.  One was to use dimensions greater than 1920x1080 to improve Pan&Zoom.  I could see no difference other than the files were bigger.

  • Pan and Zoom in a Windows instead of Full Screen?

    Hi,
Tried using the Pan & Zoom and found it very difficult to work with. I had an image I wanted to be displayed on the screen but I only wanted it to use 1/3 of the screen. I sized the image and then went to pan/zoom. The image re-sized to full screen and then from there I could use the tool. Is there a way to use this tool but have the image remain the same size I set previously?

    protivakid
What are you now using for pan and zoom? Is it the Premiere Elements 12 Pan and Zoom Tool under Tools Menu?
For starter, please take a look at the Steve Grisetti free video tutorial on the basics of using the Premiere Elements Pan and Zoom Tool as found in versions 11 or 12.
    http://www.lynda.com/Elements-tutorials/Creating-motion-path-Pan-Zoom-tool/109763/117259-4 .html
If that does not help, we can go into more details, those specific to your particular requirements.
If all else fails, you can always go the non Pan and Zoom Tool route for your pans and zooms. To do that, you would keyframe the Motion Scale property (Zoom) and the Position property (Pan). See Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded to reveal its properties which include Scale and Position.
Please review and consider and let us know what supplemental information you need.
    Thank you.

  • Problems with Pan and Zoom after video has been saved

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 13 and I am running into a problem when I want to use pan and zoom.  I watched a video that said you needed to have the picture larger than the video frame so that you have room for panning and zooming.  The problem I am running into is after I create a video and play it back you can see all of the picture that sticks out past the video frame.  It doesn't show up when you are creating the movie.   Here is an example:
I do have a video overlaying this photo.  It is the pinkish color that you see here in this picture.  It doesn't show any of the picture that extends beyond the sides, just on the top and bottom.
I have tried having a different sized video frame. I have tried saving it as several different formats and this happens every time.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

No, I am not concerned about the playback buttons. Maybe this pic will explain it better.
From my project. You can see that the picture is larger than the viewable area so that there is room for the pan to occur.

  • Adding Pan and Zoom to a video demo in Captivate 7

I am trying to add Pan and Zoom to a video demo and the Add Pan & Zoom button is greyed out, why? And, how can I get it to work!

    Hi there
Notice that for a video demo you can set in and out points by clicking and dragging the little gold bars on the timeline.
If you have dragged the out point beyond the actual recording, as shown below, you can get the playhead beyond the video. And in that case the buttons for Pan and Zoom are disabled.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Pan and Zoom not working or publishing. Help!

Did a "paste into" with a text block into a shape.  The Pan and Zoom function is grayed out.  It does show if I paste into with an image, but not text or other shapes, etc.
Also, on my iPad I have the latest content viewer app, but when I publish and download I get a message on my iPad that says I need the latest version.  This only happens on my computers at school.  Anything I published from home works fine.  I also have the pan and zoom function at home.
I have all of the latest versions.  1.9.1, CS5.5.2, and the latest app on the iPad.
I even tried a reformat, install OS, CS5.5, updates then latest producer tools and folio builder and still have had no luck.  Very frustrating. Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

    Hi Bob, wow quick reaction!
I am trying to create a scrollable frame for my iPad presentation.
First created blank frame, then a larger textbox, cut the textbox, pasted it into the smaller frame. When I go to the 'Overlay Creator' and open 'Pannen en zoomen' (Dutch for pan and zoom), all options are grey and not selectable.
I watched many tutorial, all explaining the same, seems so easy, but I guess I'm doing something wrong, or maybe I have an old version.
    See screenshots.
I tried different selections of the containerbox (with open and closed arrow, frame box, container box), but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
I also just downloaded the 'AdobeDigitalPublishingPatch-All' for any updates, but still not working.
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Pan and Zoom, not working on Ipad 2

    Hello,
Im having trouble getting a "pan only" to work on an image, on Ipad 2, it works fine when I preview it on my Mac, but when I go to double check it and preview it on my Ipad 2, tapping the image does nothing but bring up the preview app menu, and page srubber bar (the thing that lets you scrub page left and right).
All Im doing is creating a container/frame and inserting an image within that, its no bigger than 1024 by 1024, and selecting pan only. The magazine its self scrolls left and right. Like I said, it has no issue being previewed on a Mac, the trouble is on Ipad 2.
Am I doing something wrong? If so, is there a tutorial (in book form?) other than videos(where there is no trouble shooting)?
    Thanks in advance.
Im using Indesign cs5.5 if that helps...

I would be glad for the opportunity to customize a Premiere Elements 12 answer to your Premiere Elements 12 issue.
But, I want to make sure that we are together on the details. This is my understanding of what you have written. Please review and let me
know if I am misinterpreting anything that you have written.
You have a video created in Windows Movie Maker.
How did you output the video from Windows Movie Maker...wmv or mp4, what was the frame size and frame rate of that export?
Next you import that video into Premiere Elements 12 (can we assume that this is on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit?)
From what you wrote, you have applied a pan and zoom effect to your video in Premiere Elements.
Now you go to export the Premiere Elements 12 Timeline content with your video with the pan and zoom applied.
But, the pan and zoom effect is not seen in playback of the export.
Is all of the above correct so far?
If so....we are going to need some more details from you...
    a. What is the project preset that you or the project are setting to match the properties of the video coming from Movie maker? See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields look grayed out.
    b. Are you applying the pan and zoom effect with the Pan and Zoom Tool, fx Effects Presets, or keyframing the Scale (for Zoom) and
Position (for Pan) in the Motion Panel expanded?
    c. What are you selecting as your export in Publish+Share/. Please give details...are you using default settings or customizing the export
setting under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of the preset selected?
I am suspecting some sort of mismatch of your project settings or some problems with working with the Pan and Zoom tool. I need
your answers to help me help you. If I have written anything that you do not understand, please let me know. I will re-write if necessary
so that we are in sync to resolve the issue.
    Thanks.

  • Just bought Photoshop Elements 13...I'm trying to make a slideshow but can't figure out how to alter duration time that the slide is on the screen.  They presently move from one to another way too quickly...also need a different pan and zoom option.  Wher

Just bought Photoshop Elements 13...I'm trying to make a slideshow but can't figure out how to alter duration time that the slide is on the screen.  They presently move from one to another way too quickly...also need a different pan and zoom option.  Where are all the options I had in PS10?  Also...Can I burn this to a DVD?

The changes have brought improvements but also drawbacks compared with the old slideshow editor.
The templates are now fairly fixed but I find the “Classic Dark” gives reasonable results with some panning and you can click the audio button and browse you PC for any track. Unfortunately there are only three speed choices linked to the music track. The improvement for most people is that you can now export to your hard drive at 720p or 1080p and upload to sites like YouTube and Vimeo.

  • Pan and Zoom Extending Photo Duration in Premiere Elements 11

I am new to using PE11, but have been using older versions of PE for many years. In years past, after setting up my photos with voiceover and getting the transitions in, I have used keyframes to create pan and zoom effects. In 11 though, this function no longer appears to work so I am trying to use the Pan and Zoom tool. While easy to use, it is messing with the length of my photos. I already have the photos timed just right with my voiceover, so I need the length of time they are shown to stay the same. I can't figure out how to do this in the pan and zoom tool and everything I find online with this issue is with older versions of PE so the advice given isn't helping. If I'm able to use keyframes, that would be great too - but I'm not seeing how to add them under the Applied Effects tool.
If anyone is able to help me, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I'm on a very tight deadline for work and was not expecting PE11 to be so different from previous versions!

With Premiere Elements 11 and 12, the photo that is panned and zoomed with its Pan and Zoom Tool is characterized by increased duration. It is what it is.
If you want to pan and zoom a photo using keyframing of the Motion properties of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan), then you would need to use Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/ Motion Panel expanded and its Scale and Position properties there in association with Toggle Animation icon.
The shorter version of the Motion Panel Expanded looks like
To get the view where you can see the keyframes, click on the stop watch icon to the far right of the line with title Applied Effects.
    Then you will see
Are you now on more familiar ground to move forward with your keyframing of the Scale and Postion properties for your
    photo pans and zooms?
Please review and let me know if you are OK with the details.
Also, my blog post on Pan and Zoom Tool might be of interest.

  • Pan and Zoom Elements 11

Pan and zoom in Premire Elements 11, can it be resized, I see that it is preset for something like 3" tall x 5" wide, but what if you have a picture that is 5" tall x 3" wide? When I go into it, it starts in the middle of the picture, when I'm wanting the full picture to begain top to bottom.

    srickie
I think that you need to refocus. Video involves pixels and not inches.
    So, you need to focus
    a. What are the pixel dimensions of your photos to which you want to add a pan and zoom effect in Premiere Elements 11, that is, width and height in pixels.
    b. What did the project or you set for the project preset. If you did nothing, then you will be left with the project default of 1080i30 (1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second) if you have a NTSC setup and 1080i25 (1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 25 interlaced frames per second if you have a PAL setup.
Setting up the project correctly is important so that your source media fill the space established in the Edit Mode Monitor for editing purposes. And, the project preset directs the program as to what space to provide.
Now for the matter of pan and zoom in Premiere Elements 11 - ways include:
    a. The Pan and Zoom Tool
    b. Keyframing the Motion properties of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan)
    c. Presets
What do you want to do with your Timeline content once you have edited it and applied effects such as pan and zoom?
Are you preparing for a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc, or do you just want to export a HD file and save it to the computer hard drive?
Please review and then we can go in whatever direction is needed to help you move forward in your Premiere Elements project.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification in anything that I have written. Important. Think pixels not inches.
    Thanks.

  • How to time stretch a picture frame (not video) that I have panned and zoomed in Premiere Elements 11?

Previously used Premiere elements 11 and could zoom in on a picture frame, but also Time stretch it, so the zoom would be slow.  Cannot figure out how to do this in Premiere elements 11.  When I have applied the zoom, but go to right click on the picture frame, it does not allow me to change the time.  It stays on 100.  It will only allow me to change actual video clips.  Does anyone know how to really slow down the zoom on a picture frame, or a way to use the Time stretch like I could do in Elements 7?  Thanks!

    jshook525
I do confirm your observation on the Time Stretch Speed %/Duration available fields for a still in Premiere Elements 7 vs 11 Presets Horizontal 640 x 480 Zoom In.
If you want to go with Presets rather than manual keyframing of Scale property in Motion Panel expanded, then...
    1. Given your 5 second still on the Timeline.
    2. Drag the fx Effect Horizontal Image Zoom/640 x 480 Zoom In into the 5 second still on Video Track.
When you do that two Scale keyframes are automatically placed at the beginning and end of the  5 second clip.
    3. Change the duration of the clip, with one of the following
    a. click and drag to the right the right edge of the clip to increase its duration
    or
    b. right click the clip, select Time Stretch, and set the duration to the increased value....if you had been in 7 the Speed% = 50,
then the duration you would find is 10 seconds (00;00;10;00). Here no Speed% visible opportunity, just set the duration = 00;00;10;00.
    c. go to Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded, and move the 2nd Scale Keyframe to the the right. In this
example at the 10 second mark, the new duration of the clip.
"Presets" has its limitation - pan or zoom instead of pan and zoom, and other. In what needs to be done here, it probably would have been quicker
just to do the Scale keyframing yourself in Motion Panel expanded with the Toggle Animation technique Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan).
There is more to all this, but for now let me know if any of the above could get your through to your goal.
    Thanks
