Premier or After Effects?

Hi,
I have no experience in video editing or using any of the two software. I have worked in Flash though. I have a video editing project to do in 4 weeks. Final product should be maybe 5-10 minutes long montage of video, audio, music and few images.
What is the best software to use? Easier to pick up in few weeks time? I need to buy it, install it, learn it and use it. All in 4 weeks.
I have Mac OS 10.6.8
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
My source footage is video .mp4 and audio m4a (I might not use this audio, it's boring...). Might use music instead.

Now, I have two more very dumb questions:
1. What is the difference between Premier Pro and Premier Elements?
2. My source files are mp4 and m4a, and some mov. I need to post all raw files online first, so someone can pick which ones they want to use. So, I have these files and I have a web server. How do I post them so they become URLs anyone can see? If it matters, my the person who needs to review these files online, is on a PC, using IE8.
So, do I just upload them online and send her URLs once they become live. Or do I need to somehow convert to like .wmv or something, cause she's on a PC? Or do I need to place each file into an .html page, and then upload that? Please don't advise me to upload to youtube.com because I assume my viewer does not want her footage to be that public...
Lastly, can I change file names, to like video_1.mp4, video_2.mp4, etc. So, files rae easy to reference in our written correspondence...

Is there a difference in Premier and After Effects Performance in terms of intel or AMD? Forget the speed issue, assume that the processors are of comparable speed and also assume that the system is built beyond recommended requirements. When it comes to reliablility and performance of either processor working and managing data with CS5, is there a difference? I am looking to build a computer with multiple CPU's so i7 if out as well (unless you can convince me that have only one CPU is better than building with multiple) Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to any help you may give me! I have been wrestling with purchasing a new computer for months now looking for a CS5 CPU, trying to find the most economical purchase. The last computer I had bought was specifically for CS2 and I spent over $8500 dollars for it in 2006. A dual XEON 2.80 with Hyperthreading. Back then I thought I had a great machine, but now looking at what I paid for, i feel much wiser.
I have seen the benchmark test and studied it closely, but until this post, I didn't know how the results translated into real world results. I figured out pretty quickly AMD is no where near to Intel currently.
I am looking to edit primarily with AVCHD and will be using After Effects extensively. So of course, I want processor speed and plenty of RAM. But it gets expensive. Sandy Bridge looks like an option but there is a RAM limitation and the recent problems with it. i7 processors look like a good option but they are also 24 gig limitation. Of course dual CPU Xeon gives me unlimited RAM practically, BUT i have a limited budget.
So in looking at the Benchmark Test, (which I love, but can't equate to real world applications - i.e. Time Savings between results - because i don't know what the length of the footage is) it has been hard to gauge a cost/gain benefit when choosing my next machine.
I noticed your results are 65.0 to ADK's 35.0 under the h.264 CPU performance. I guess I am asking what is that in a real world time crunch difference?
P.S. I do realize that the ADK results aren't average. If you wish, you may reference the #1 system with the top average of 45.0 under the h.264 CPU performance to give me an idea on comparision. Also, I noticed your machine is overclocked. Does overclocking make CS5 any less stable?

am buying the new imac 27" with its maximum features: 32 GB, 1 TB ssd, NVidia gtx 780 with 4GB, but I am worried about the cpu (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) is it good enough for premier and after effect?

Video Effect (premier or after effects)

The effect is the flashing lights.
If anyone could tell me how to do that in Premier or After effects that would be great!

This is an easy effect, but you have to either purchase or find for free (via an internet search) what are called "light leaks." They are also known as film burns, or film clutter, though they are technically slightly different.

All you do is stack up a clip with light leaks on V2 and change the opacity, or better yet, use a blending mode like Screen or Overlay (found in the Opacity parameter in the Effect Controls panel). Adjust opacity to taste.

Premier Pro, After Effects will not download, all other Apps available

Running Windows Vista, SP2, 32-bit, Mozilla Firefox latest updates.
At creative.adobe.com/apps, click on Pr or Ae "download." Neither download works.
The installation window for AAManager.exe pops up, ask to "Run" or cancel. Click on
"Run. It runs, initializes and AAM appears with 14 of 16 apps.
Installed a few Apps that are available. Prelude works fine after install. So, it appears to be App
specific.
Premier Pro and After Effects do not appear in AAM. Cannot install as a result.
Running a tight deadline. Appreciate help to quickly resolve this issue.
Zero error messages generated. Running CS Complete subscription service.

I would recommend reviewing Not all apps displayed for download | Creative Cloud desktop app which discusses the need for a 64-bit OS as well as meeting the system requirements in order to download and install applications. Dynamic Link Audio Troubleshooting- Premier to After Effects CS5

Hello!
My name is Alley and I've been working on a project in After Effects CS5 using dynamic linked sequences from premier. I've been in this project for a good two weeks without any major problems concerning the dynamic link. When I open the project on another computer, however, sometimes there is audio missing from some of the sequences. I look in the premier project and sure enough the audio is all there, no keyframes or anything and it plays back fine. It just won't appear in After Effects even after a render. I know it probably has something to do with the different computers but I don't know if anyone else has ever had this problem before and if you found a solution.
• Both computers are Mac OS X Versions 10.6.6 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Cores
• After Effects and Premier are CS5 versions, completely updated
• There are no errors or warnings popping up within the programs
• All Dynamic Linked sequences are 2 minutes tops although there are a multiple of them
• Not ALL the sequences have the audio problem, it seems to be random
I can't wrap my brain around how two nearly identical computers with the same versions of both programs are getting different results with the audio in the dynamic link sequence... Help me out?

Quicktime! The versions of Quicktime and or even just some QT component/CoDec may be different between the computers. Also keep in mind, that your alternate computer may in fact require you to explicitly open the project in Premiere to conform the audio properly first. If that hasn't happened, AE may simply not be able to use some tracks as it will expect a conformed audio file. This is critical especialyl with compressed formats. It may even require you to re-render the Premiere timeline on the second computer...

MPE, Cuda 5.x, CS6 (Premier Pro & After Effects) & Nvidia Maximus Gen 2

i have the Tesla K20 installed along with a K4000 Quadro in a Maximus Gen 2 config but so far i don't seem to have the workload taken off my CPU, my tesla usage has not moved an inch yet the CPU load still spikes even with MPE enabled in CS6 (& yes i have the latest driver installed ver 320.00) pls advice on how best i can optimize/utilize d hardware

You get everything shown on this page providing you've got the operating system and hardware to run Premiere and AE

Note that they are 64 bit apps so they require a 64 bit operating system.
If you're running Windows 7 or 8 32 bit then you won't be able to install or run them.

Unable to open file in Premier CS5.5 after exporting in After Effects CS5.5

I have the Master Suite and I have the exact same error. Very frustrating considering I waited 2 HOURS for it to render last night. I get the exact same ERROR!!! Please help.

I am using the trial version of the Master Suite with Adobe Premier and After Effects. The main problem I am having is using the Warp Stabilizer in After Effects. Once the video is brought in to the program and the 'Stabilize' or 'Track' feature is pushed, I have to wait hours, then the program freezes up and I have to close it. Otherwise, if I only bring in a smaller sequence that was rendered in Premier, that seems to work better/faster in After Effects, but then I render it again after the stabilization in After Effects, but am having problems exporting it to Premier. I have tried using the Dynamic Link, but then Premier freezes up.
Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. I am using Vista Home Premium, Dell 64-bit, and the new versions of Adobe Master Suite (trial version).

How do I Import footage from Premier Pro CS3 to After Effects?

As the subject says, how do I import footage from premier pro cs3 into after effects. I'm getting rather frustrated trying to figure this out.
Via copy & paste I can copy into after effects but this copys the whole of the track on the timeline, where as I just want 10 seconds copied. The 10 seconds I want to copy is a segment & was highlighted when I clicked copy.
Also when the full track gets copied, all my edits aren't copied & I get the raw track copied???
I've googled this, tried the "Add Dynamic Link" but all I want is to copy 10 seconds of footage from premier into after effects, add my effect & then copy it back, and I can't figure out how to do this simple thing

I highlight the selection I want to copy into after effects. I copy & paste it & it pastes my entire footage without any off the edits I have made.
Having searched loads for this I can find no other answer than copy & paste.
Please please could you guy be more specific with your answers as I just can't figure this one?

How to make a Dynamic Link starting in After Effects to Premier (not other way around)

I have seen a ton of tutorials how to Dynamic Link from Premier to After Effects. (but not the other way around. )
I need instructions/video how to link starting in After Effect to Premier.
For example if I make a title in After Effects and then want to dynamic Link it into Premier how is this done?

I've looked at this too. When I first started using DL, I thought that it was basically a two way street between applications. But that analogy doesn't work very well. DL is PPro-centric. Like PPro is the hub, DL the spokes, and the other Abobe applications are on the rim. And this makes a fair amount of sense. The central feature of an editing suite is the editor, and that would be PPro.
Another way to look at it is that you can push from PPro to AE, and PPro can pull from AE, but AE can not push to PPro. So the direct answer to "I need instructions/video how to link starting in After Effect to Premier" is, you can't. What you can do is make your title composition in AE, import that AE project into PPro, and use the composition as you would any other asset in PPro. Then when you change your title in AE, you'll see the change in PPro almost immediately without you having to do anything.
When I'm making motion lower thirds, for example, I now make them in AE. I let the AE project reside in the directory with the PPro project that I made the lower thirds for. Then when I want the lower thirds in PPro, I just import the AE lower thirds into the PPro project. There's a few ways to do this. One is to use the Media Browser. The MB will open up the AE project for you and let you select which composition you want to import. Another way is to File...Adobe Dynamic Link...Import AE composition which does more or less the same thing. There may be other ways as well, IDK.

Premiere and After effects no longer work after graphics card upgrade

So heres my problem. A week ago my gtx 295 died. So I got a new gtx 780 and new ram. After installing my new card and installing the latest drivers premier and after effects cs6 crash on the splash screen. Whats wierd is these are the only programs that crash. After effects cs4 works fine along with all my maya stuff. I reinstalled premier and it still crashes for some reason.
I'm running vista ultimate 64bit with the cs6 production suite. I do have some plugins on after effects including the trapcode suite amd optical flares.
Any tips?

The only thing I can think of is that Windows Vista is not one of the supported operating systems for Premiere Pro CS6. Only Windows 7 is listed. Is it possible to upgrade your OS?

After Effects & Premiere CS5 HELP!

I purchased Adobe CS5 Master Collection through my work. IT was already opened when I got it. When I installed it every program was there to install except After Effects and Premiere. This was on my macbook pro duel cor 2.16 running snow leopard.
When I installed another copy for my pc the programs showed up but had a message saying I needed to update to run.
Why would they not even show up in the" install options window" on apple???
Isn't it true Adobe had after effects cs4 and premiere cs4 on the install cd if cs5 wouldn't run?

I believe you are mistaken Katherine and therein lies your problem, the Intel Core Duo is a 32-bit processor. Requirements for CS5 Premier and After Effects are a 64-bit processor... while the Macbook Pro with Intel Core Duo's can run 64-bit programs, they run them at 32-bit, After Effects and Premier require to be run at 64-bit and cannot be run on a 32-bit processor. Such is the case with Intel Core Duo's which are 32-bit. While you are correct when saying "all Macs automatically run 64-bit." they run 64-bit programs yes, but After Effects and Premier CS5 require the 64-bit processor. Any Mac with all the system requirements but is missing the 64-bit processor will not be able to see the install option to install Premier and After Effects CS5.
My MacBook Pro 17" (fully upgraded) with Intel Core Duo was unable to see the installation selection. But my recently acquired MacBook Pro 15" with intel i7 core was able to see the installation selection. Intel Core Duo = 32-bit.... Intel i7 Core = 64-bit

Premier,After Effects CS5.5 or 6 MPEG 2 Problem

When using After Effects or Premier CS5.5 or 6 everytim I render an uncompressed video using MPEG2 the final product has a 1 sec pause or studder in the middle of the playback. The original video is uncompressed and looks fine. But this does not happen when using CS4 products only CS5.5 or 6. I have tried 5 windows operating systems and 3 types of media players and it is not my operating system. As of now I cant use the new CS5.5 or 6 Adobe products due to this problem.

Hi, sorry for my english. This problem is since cs5, whether imported from the Timeline or an uncompressed format. I have tried to change the settings and only in some cases delayed the pause or studder to another time in the video. The only way to fix it has been exporting an uncompressed avi and make the MPEG2 into ProCoder or Sorenson Squeeze
