Premier Pro 2.0 - CS3

Hi everyone,
Newb question for you, but I hope you can help - you do seem like a helpful bunch! I have Premier Pro 2 and am halfway through a project. It's a big project but there are no effects on it, it's all butt-up assembly edit at the moment. I'm getting more bugs as time goes on, where things just stop playing and I keep having to change from Draft to High quality to get it working again. It's a right pain.
(on xp pro sp2 btw)
I'm thinking of upgrading to CS3 (actually, I'm going to go for the production package if I do) but have had lots of problems in the past with companies like Steinberg to name but a few, where the upgrade is not always satisfactory.
So my questions are:
1. Is it actually worth the upgrade to CS3? Is it that much of a better program? Is it stable?
2. Will I be ok importing my v2 project into CS3? I know that it's not a good idea to change mid-project, but i'm tearing my hair out here....
3. Will CS3 and 2 co-exist so that if the import doesn't work, I can still work on V2?
Thanks very much for your help. Would really appreciate your opinions.
Huge.

Hi,
I do get what you are saying, but I'm running a dual xeon PC with all the firmware and drivers up to date. I have no problems with Premier 2, aside from those I've noted.
The same with programs like Cubase, if you consistently get serious errors in your C++ visual library, there's someting badly wrong. I'm not saying that cd3 wouldn't work if I started a project from scratch, but I just can't get the trial of CS3 to stay up with a V2 project long enough to actually test it.
Considering that my version of V2 is relatively stable, and that CS3 seems to be not working at all, and that there don't really seem to be any features in it which warrant the upgrade cost relative to DV, it doesn't seem to be a viable option to me.
All new software components that are needed should be included in the program itself, and if not, should be specified with the release.
I'll re-try the program with a new CS3 project when I get round to it, but it's just daft at the moment. It's not like there are any effects or anything major in my v2 project, so why does CS3 appear to consistently screw up with V2 projects? Considering that most people would be upgrading rather than new clients, Adobe really should have sorted this out.
Huge.

  • How do I Import footage from Premier Pro CS3 to After Effects?

    Hi
As the subject says, how do I import footage from premier pro cs3 into after effects. I'm getting rather frustrated trying to figure this out.
Via copy & paste I can copy into after effects but this copys the whole of the track on the timeline, where as I just want 10 seconds copied. The 10 seconds I want to copy is a segment & was highlighted when I clicked copy.
Also when the full track gets copied, all my edits aren't copied & I get the raw track copied???
I've googled this, tried the "Add Dynamic Link" but all I want is to copy 10 seconds of footage from premier into after effects, add my effect & then copy it back, and I can't figure out how to do this simple thing
    Any help
    Thanks.

I am still not getting this.
I highlight the selection I want to copy into after effects. I copy & paste it & it pastes my entire footage without any off the edits I have made.
Having searched loads for this I can find no other answer than copy & paste.
Please please could you guy be more specific with your answers as I just can't figure this one?

  • Importing sound into Premier Pro CS3

I have a Sony HDR-XR100 HD video camera.  It saves files with an .m2ts extension.  This extension is not supported by CS3.  Using Sony's PMB (Picture Motion Browser), I convert the .m2ts files to .mpeg2.  When I import these files into Premier, they appear, but have no audio.  How do I import the audio?  Thanks.
    David

I put it in the main Premier folder, presumably like you did, and it worked.  I'm not real familiar with Macs, but the folder I put it in was "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS3".  There are several other files there with similar names.  If that doesn't work, I'm lost, since obviously I had to come here for help myself :).

Hey, I'm using CS for Mac and I'm having the same issue , importing .mpg into PPro and get no audio.
I found the ad2ac3dec.dll file online but I'm not sure what folder to place it in. I've found the folder named Adobe Premire Pro CS3 and just pasted it into that but it didn't work.
My camera only records in .mpg and I really don't want to spend money on a converter after spending a bucketload for CS3...
Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Can i upgrade premier pro CS3 to work on win 8.1

Can I upgrade premier pro cs 3 to work on win 8,1....
    Terry

There are no updates for CS3 to work with Windows 8.1.  Having said that, I'd expect it to just work anyway.  Unlike Mac OS, the Windows OS is extremely compatible with older software.  It's a very rare occurrence when an older program just won't run.
This may actually be one of the biggest flaws with Windows.  It's so ubiquitous that complete overhauls under the hood would break too many programs, and so we never get a truly revolutionary upgrade (like the complete removal of the registry, one of the worst ideas ever implemented in an OS).

  • Getting random white noise in Premier Pro CS3 audio

I'm working with Premier Pro CS3 on a simple 15 minute slide show with approx. 150 pictures and 3 songs in WAV format. In each of the three songs, I'm getting 1-second bursts of white noise - on left or right or both channels - approx. 3-4 times in each song.  When played outside of Premier Pro, all songs are clean with no white noise.  None of the songs are too 'hot'; show three have good levels in Soundbooth. I've scanned all of the audio sections in Help and can find nothing that might explain the cause and I'd appreciate some guidance.  I've worked with previous versions of Premier Pro for years and have never run into this.  Thanks.

Have you updated your Creative driver? That would be one of the first things that I would do.
Next, in Soundbooth, do you see the noise in the Waveform? In PrPro, when you zoom in both vertically and horizontally on the Audio Track, do you see it in the Waveform?
Some folk have had great luck using ASIO4ALL as their ASIO driver. It has cleared up many issues with a broad range of equipment. I do not recall your exact problem, but then I might have missed that one. Note: after you download and install ASIO4ALL, you'll need to go to Audio Hardware and set it as your Input and Output. This driver has been very helpful on the Audition forum, and with all sorts of issues and some very esoteric hardware.
Hope that something helps, and good luck,

  • Premier Pro CS3 doesn't activate

Hi, my Premier Pro CS3 doesn't activate. Or once it kind of did but now it claims that it hasn't. I've tried to solve this with Adobe chat support personel for 4 times now and three of them said "Now it works, you won't run into problems anymore", which of course I have, and the last fellow said "It's a technical problem which we have little information of, please ask from technical support". He gave me a link to this forum. How you guys could help me if they couldn't is beyond me, but I definitely hope you can. The product is licensed for two computers in our company, and last time the chat -fellow cleaned previous activations and now it should only be licensed on my computer as my collague hasn't got time to do it yet. The error message that I'm getting is something like "Unable to connect Adobe" and then there're 3 options 1st: retry (doesn't work) 2nd: try again later (gives 30 days trial I guess) 3rd: Trial or such.. It work fine two times after the 3rd chat -fellow "fixed it", but then I got Adobe CC with photoshop and LR5 and now the problem is back. Any ideas? I would greatly appriciate any leads fixing this as I should use Premier for my company.

Hardware crashes or virus infections or simple software problems happen, so you should buy AND USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new setup or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything

  • CS3 Premier Pro Won't Start due to Komplete 5 .dll Loading...

    Hi,
I'm running Komplete 5 by Native Instruments on a brand new Quad Core laptop that was built and tweaked by a pro audio company that specializes in configuring machines for musicians. The Win XP Professional system runs very well.
After installing Adobe CS3 Suite, I noticed that the only program that won't start properly now is Premier Pro. When try to start Premier Pro 3.0, the splash screen opens and I can see the Komplete 5 software programs (Kontakt 3, Massive, Pro 53...) trying to load their .dll files. After a few seconds, Premier Pro quits and gives me a Runtime Error.
I've searched around a little bit and can't even find the .dll's for Komplete 5 to try the suggested experiment of moving them away out of their folder and then to bring them back after (if) I get Premier Pro to start as I have indexing turned off on the drives (which I "think" is to keep the system speedy?) so searching manually has not been easy so far. I looked in the vst folder and they are not there, unless I am missing something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Jerry,
You likely have an issue with one, or more, of the NI .dll's. There have been several issues with these. Do a search of this forum (go back to get all Premiere versions) for "Native Instruments." There are serveral threads on moving the .dll's, so that Premiere doesn't try to load them. Premiere will attempt to load every registered VST/.dll, as you have found. NI's do cause PP to hang.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premier Pro CS3 Error "time.cpp-390"

    Please help!
Whenever I try to manipulate my timeline in Adobe Premier Pro CS3 on a short film that is nearing it's deadline, I get this error "time.cpp-390" followed by the software crashing. Any help?
Adobe no longer provides support for their product and their tech support help line is utterly useless. I have google searched the error and searched the forums... I own 15 CS3 Creative Suites and if they think I am upgrading to CS5.5 after this customer service experience... I may be moving to FC7.
I really need to fix this!
Thank you for any help you can be.

The event viewer gives me nothing, unfortunately. Thank you for the help though! I did find a solution though...
Reinstalling the software (the ONLY solution offered by Adobe support people) was entirely a waste of time. So was the nearly two hours I spent talking to four people on their support line just trying to get them to help me. I learned that if I just kept asking for a superviser, they would keep letting me talk to someone different. Apperantly, there is no end in the number of people who are considered "supervisors" at adobe...
Adobe provided no useful assistance other then telling me to reinstall the software. I am actually more than simply dissapointed with the complete lack of support and complete lack of effort in helping me find a solution to the issue. I actively suggest people use something other than Premier Pro for no other reason than a lack of integrity by the company in supporting thise who spend thousands of dollars on their products. Anyway... I hate them and I'm tired of crying about it.
    SOLUTION TIME!!!
Ok, so here is the solution. The ONLY solution was to copy the timeline and the bin into a new, fresh project file. I started a new, empty project, then copy/pasted the timeline from the old to the new project. I did the same with the emaining contents of the bin and voila! the error stopped happening.  I have NO IDEA why... but I know that it works and it only took me two days to figure out. In fact, all of the projects I have that are in various stages of completion, must be coppied into new projects in order to work. In other projects, I don't get the time.cpp-390 error, it just simply will not insert a clip no matter what I do.
So, I'm glad it works... I just wish I knew what the problem was.

  • How can smartsounds and Sonic Pro 5 work in Premier Pro CS3?

I have been using smartsounds from way back in Adobe Premier 6.0 when it was packaged with Adobe. This really has been the bees knees for adding sound.
It has not been incorporated by Adobe in the CS versions and I have now tried Sonic Pro 5 with CS3 and found that although it recognizes clips within any project it falls down badly just when one needs it.  I mean that if one then assembles individual clips into a timeline and then save that timeline Sonic Pro does not find the timeline as it does not seem to be able to support the timeline format.
    I therefore have 3 problems:-
    1. How can one import a timeline into Sonic Pro so one can use the smartsound process?
    2. I have the Smartsound quick tracks for Adobe Premier 6.0 and Sonic Pro cannot recognize these fully so the features within Sonic Pro can't be used.  Is there a way round this?
    3. I own a library of copyright free music which is not part of the smartsound range.  Is there a way to use this music within Sonic Pro or will it only work with their tracks?
Any information on Sonic Pro and Smartsounds is welcome.

    John,
The reason for the Proxy/Reference movie is so that you can apply the music creation power of SonicFire Pro (used with multi-layered Libraries only), while watching and listening to the edited movie. It is used as your cuesheet. Now, if one could "gang" the playback in PrPro to SonicFire Pro, so that they start, stop, rewind, etc. in sync, that would preclude the reference movie. Unfortunately, they cannot be ganged/synced.
If one is just using SonicFire Pro, as one would use QuickTracks, all one would need would be the duration. With multiple Clips, requiring different music and different durations, this is most easily accomplished (for me), by setting the WAB (Work Area Bar) in PrPro to where I wish a certain cut to be used, and just resting the cursor on the WAB - read the Duration for it, and make note. Create as is required.
However, with Mood Mapping, for instance, you'd need to be able to see and hear, exactly where you wish to go from the full orchestra to the Dialog Preset, and when to come out of it. Because SonicFire Pro can do so very much more than can QuickTracks, if one is just creating music on the Duration, they are missing so very much of the real power of the program and the multi-layer music.
Ah, I can't wait until either SonicFire Pro is a plug-in, or gets a fully functioning Adobe DL. That DL doesn't even need full-rez - just a decent image and of course, the Timeline's Audio would need to come over too.
As a sidenote on workflow, I feel that it's very important to complete the editing in PrPro, and get approval, before going to SonicFire Pro for the final scoring of the movie. This is the way that it's done in Hollywood, and with good reason. Yes, a composer and the rest of the scoring staff might be working on aspects of the music all along, but to do the final score, they need to know how the movie will be cut. If I am going to SonicFire Pro, the client knows ahead of time that any edits, after approval, will cost additional $'s. They also know that the finished score cannot be done, until the final cuts are approved. I may stick in some "proxy" music, and it might even be the music that will be used, just not in its final, scored version. With just the music from QuickTracks, it's a simple prospect to alter the Duration, or even the variation of that piece of music, as the edits change things. SonicFire Pro - not so simple.
Last note: in Pinnacle (and maybe others), one can easily, and dynamically alter the SmartSound piece. The completed music Clips have a beginning, a middle and an end. In Pinnacle, if one just click-drags on the Tail of a SmartSound piece, the changes (up, or down) in the piece only affect the middle. In other NLE's, at least Premiere, if one does this, then the beginning, and middle are basically untouched, and the Duration changes are applied to only the end. Also, if one just click-drags to INCREASE the Duration over what was chosen, crashes often occur, and even if they do not, the result is not what would be wished for. In Pinnacle, the click-drag is very dynamic and the results ARE what one would hope for. Why the difference between NLE's has never been explained to me, but I would assume that there is a major difference in the way that Premiere and Pinnacle handle Audio. Since SmartSound just came out with a FCP edition, I'd be curious to see how it functions in that program. Minor quibble, but I'd still love to see the behavior that one experiences in Pinnacle brought to Premiere.
If I only need a slight change in the Duration, I will use TimeStretch. So long as you're not making much of a change, that will work. For bigger changes, I just do the same cut, but with the new, correct Duration.

PS I anticipate receiving the edited article about end-of-business today PDT.

  • Premier Pro CS3 crashes with Canon 7D HD files

I am just putting together a promo for a client, shot in HD on my Canon 7D. Everything went fine until 3 minutes into the project when Premier Pro CS3 refuses to render more than 1:30 minutes. (I already changed preferences to "Optimize rendering for Memory") Also the preview window is blanced out White and Black further down the project time line (even after changing back to:"Optimize rendering for Performance". Also now Premier starts crashing everytime I add a sound track. It looks as if the Canon 7D .mov files are too unwieldy for my new 12GB iMac 2,8 GHz Intel Core i7 (OSX 10.6.3).
I need some urgent help please, as my job in in jeopardy.
Should I convert my canon .mov files into H.264 first or what is the best way to work with these files?(using MPEG Streamclip)
Thanks very much for your help.

I am probably too late, but if you have Apple Pro Res 422 Codec available in MPEG Streamclip you should transcode your HD files to that and then bring it into Premiere. They will be easier to work with that way.
    Good Luck!

  • Premier Pro CS3

I recently upgraded my operating platform on my Mac to Snow Leopard. When opening Premier Pro CS3 now I am confronted by the following message:
"The previously selected ASIO driver could not be loaded and may be in  use by another application. The default ASIO driver is now in use.",  followed by a notification that Premiere Pro has encountered a serious  error and has to close."
Can anybody advise me how to proceed and get Premier Pro back to a working state?
    With thanks in advance.

Normalize will adjust the volume so that the highest point is at 0 dBFS. If it's reducing gain by 12.3 dB, then somehow the original is 12.3 dB too hot! Not sure how that can happen in the digital realm, though. 0 dBFS is pretty much the max you can get. This one has me confused.
I believe Premiere will conform all audio to 32 bit Floating Point for editing. Not sure you can adjust that.

  • Importing Kodak .mov files in Premier Pro CS3?

I am using Premier Pro CS3 and I have a new Kodak Playsport Zx3.  Kodak says the .mov clips are 1080p, and 30 frames a second. I tried importing clips into CS3 and I get 'file type not supported' error.  The manual says .mov are supported.  What am I missing?  Do I need Quicktime installed for importing the files?

    Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us more about your computer?
If you are getting the "Not Supported" error, then it is likely that you do not have the proper CODEC's installed. For the MOV format, those are usually installed with Apple's QuickTime Player. Do you have that installed? If not, it is free, though IMHO, is not that great a player. In your case, you only need the CODEC's that it installs.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - something else to consider is that many camera mfgrs. will ship their own version of the CODEC's, and these might be on the CD/DVD, that came with the camera. Sometimes, the CODEC is an extra install, sometimes it's built into the driver for the camera, and sometimes, it's part of some video editing program, that ships with the camera. It just depends.

  • How do I fix this "flickering" in Adobe Premier Pro CS3?

Hi all, I'm currently working on an MMV (A music video based off of a certain video game, similar to anime music vids), but I have a big problem =\ Theres this "flickering" thing in the middle of the video, and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. It plays through, and at a certain point it goes back a few frames and repeates about 5 times.... Just going back and forth... I have tried removing audio but it didn't work. The AVI files outside of Premier Pro are fine. I have also rendered it numerous times to see if it was just Adobe's preview playing up, but.... it wasn't....
If you still can't understand it, I have recorded my problem and uploaded it, in case anyone wants to look at it.
In the vid I am tapping arrow keys through frames, not just playing through.
The first section, the chat bubble is meant to change twice altogether.. but it flickers through and change about 10 times.
Second section, and the rest, are all repeated actions that are only meant to happen once...
Help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
Oops, one more thing (offtopic). My AVI files stopped working literally 30 seconds ago... They just play a black screen on WMP and do nothing in VLC Player. I fixed this previously today by upgrading Xvid.... but I have the latest now, so I don't know what to do... (I can still play them in Quicktime, however)

    Wow - Fast reply.
Anyway, thanks, I'll lookat that after I post this. I have 1 more question. My video recorder cn record in the following codecs, the one in bold is the one I used. Which one has the highest quality, that will work in Premier? Thanks
    Microsoft Video 1
    Intel IYUV codec
    Cinepak Codec by Radius
    Xfire Video Codec
    Xvid MPEG-4 Codec
    Intel Indeo(R) Video 4.5
Edit: I'll decide which posts were most helpful after this =]
Edit 2: Do you reccomend using Stoik Video Converter, or VirtualDUB?
Edit 3: Thanks for your help, it's fixed now
