Premier Pro Blend mode issue

Hi.
I have previously used Screen blend mode to add a set of images on top of another set.  The first set (rendered from 3DS Max) were the main image for my animation and the "superimposed" set were rendered from 3DS Max as VRay atmosphere render elements.  Both images were rendered to a black background in Max.  When I added the "superimposed" set I simply chose Screen blend mode for them and they were added, fine.
I am now trying to achieve something similar.  This time the first set of images are rendered to a white background.  The second set are rendered to VRay material select render elements (aI have tried both white and black background - same result).  When I add the second set into a separate video slot on the timeline and use Screen blend mode, the result is a faded/patially transparent image overlayed where there are objects in the "background" image.  Where there is a white background nothing of the top layer is visible.
I can see that this is somehow mixing the colours/light and producing pure white outside of the scene objects.
Q.  How do I achieve the required mix of the two sets of images?
Many thanks,
Terry

Hi Mark.
What I have is an overlay image (or set of images) that has some scaffold on it.  It has been rendered off from 3DS Max using a VRay material select render element so only the scaffold is visible but the remaining objects in the scene obscure the scaffold where applicable.
The scene image which scaffold will sit on top of has objects in around 3/4 of the scene with the white background showing to the side of these objects.  The scaffold in the overlay images covers some of the scene objects and also some of the white background.
When I use a "Screen" Blend mode for the overlay images I get a pale partially transparent image of the scaffold where it sits above the scene objects and nothing at all where it sits above the white background.
The top image is the first frame showing scene objects.  The second image is the scaffold overlay.  The third image shows what happens when I use "Screen" Blend mode on the scaffold overlay in Premiere Pro.  The scene object images are on Video 1 and the scaffold images are in Video 2.
The result I desire is the top image (scene objects) with the scaffold added on top.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Terry

  • Color Dodge Blend mode issue in CS4

Alright I'm running CS4 and I'm having an issue using the color dodge blend mode for my brushes. What im trying to do is to create a light effect which I've done this before and I've also run into this problem before and I've solved it but I just cant remember how. I have a dark gradient on my background and i created a new blank layer for my brush, i set the brush layer blend mode to Color Dodge and use a white brush so it will pick up on the gradient. The issue I'm having is it's just painting over the gradient as if nothing is there and it only starts picking up on the background on a ring that I uncover when I go over it with a brush I'll try and provide an image. the white is suppose to turn bright red when it goes over the colored part of the gradient but it only changes its color near this ring on the gradient that I didn't add in. . . it's a weird explanation and I'm sorry  cant explain it better but I hope someone knows or can figure out what I'm talking about or experiencing. your help is appreciated

I tried what you said and overlay wont work because it's too dark. I don't know if it was something wrong with my brushes or something else.I opened an old PSD that i had done this same thing with and the color dodge was working on that but whenever i created a new one it would act strange like the image above. then i tried again later and for some reason it started to work. The only thing i did differently was reset my brushes and i created a group and changed the group's blend mode to Color Dodge then put in a blank layer inside the group folder with a normal blend mode and it worked for some reason. I still don't know exactly what i did but oh well it's working now. Thanks for your help. This is what i was trying to do so now you can see how it wasn't working above.

  • Blending Mode Issues

    Hi,
I think my Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 may have some glitches in it with this problem. I imported a PNG file with a black background above my video footage. I tried putting the blending mode to screen and nothing happened. I also tried a variety of other things, but nothing affected the file. I have never had a problem like this before with Adobe Premiere.
If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks, Gabrielle

Blending should works as you discribed.
If Premiere is acting weird open Premiere while holding down shift+alt.
Might want to clear your media cache database to.

  • Smart Object and blend mode issue

I have an object that I moved from another image and needed to resize. The object is an image of a bottle and glass, with both the bottle and glass having reflections from their base. They both also have some layer masks with the reflections. I grouped the glass and bottle and created a smat object before the move to the new file). Anyway everything worked fine, except the reflections are much stonger in the new file (they are sitting over the same colored backgrond as in the original. If I open up the smart object and put a background behind the images  and the reflections (background is transparent)everthing looks as they should. The reflections have a blend mode of multiply).
So why does the smart object not render the reflections properly (without lowering the opacity more within the smart object group) they appear almost at 100% in the new file. Any suggestions?
Can't post the files as this happened at work.
    Thanks
    Jeff

Anything to do with soft proofing?  Does the new document have the same colour space as the original?

  • Premier Pro CS4 install issues.

Hello - I am trying to install Premier Pro CS4 onto a Win XP/SP3 machine that already has CS5 Premium installed.  The reason I need Premier CS4 is simple - I am still running a 32 bit machine. So, the download and install went without a hang or a hitch, but when I try to start the program I get a "Lincensing for this product has expired" error message.  Prior to the install, I had a copy of Premier 5.0 installed, but it was uninstalled that prior to this install.  During the install I get the green check mark with the serial number, and after three attempts at install/uninstall, (two installs with the serial number, and the last install attempt as a "trial" install) I am getting the same error when I try to open Premier, Encore, OnLocation or Media Encoder.  I tried to call the Adobe "help line" but after listening to mind-numbing muzak for an hour I gave up, and came here.  Anyone have any ideas on how to get this up and running?  I HAVE to get video edited by Thursday with this.
    Thank you all, in advance.
    Alan Staats

...Thank you, Mr. Smith.  Resolved the problem by rolling back the date to 1 Jan 2006, opening Premiere, deactivating it, closing it, and re-opening it whereupon I was prompted for the "new" serial number.  Turns out my assistant had downloaded and installed a trial version of it, and never removed it after the trial period ended.
By the way, I know that Premiere CS5 is a 64 bit program, which is why I downloaded and installed CS4 on my 32 bit machine.  The 5.0 reference was literally to Premiere 5.0, a much earlier version of the program which I used for a short period around the turn of the century!
Again, thank you for the information and references.

  • Blending Mode issue

    Hello All,
I recently had to reinstall my CS4 suite.  Now 3 of the Blending modes do not behave as they have in the past.
Now Classic Color Burn, Classic Color Dodge and Soft Light each change the appearance of the clip (see attachment) even though its the only layer.
However, when there is another layer underneath, the Classic Color Burn looks like Color Burn and Classic Color Dodge looks like Color Dodge, and Soft Ligth is a little different than Overlay, just as they were working in the past.
Its my understanding that if you apply a blending mode to a layer and there is no other layer beneathe it, there should be no change in the appearance of that layer.  Except the application of Stencil/Silhouette Alpha or Luma will make the layer dissappear if there is nothing on beneath it..
I just need to know that my software was installed properly, and everything is as its supposed to be or do I need to re-install.
    Thanks in advance

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Sleep mode issue

    Hi All,
I've been experience troubles with issues ralated to sleeping.
    Sometimes it just sleeps well.
Sometimes my Y2P sometimes won't go sleep(insomnia???). The screen goes off but the fan doesn't stop and the keyboard backlit doesn't go off. And whatever I do won't wake it up in this circumstance, for example hitting a key on the keyboard, hitting the power button, or touch the screen. I have to restart to enter the OS. (FYI VirtualBox may cause this problem but I was not running it. I don't even have it installed.)
And sometimes it does go sleeping and can be waken up, but during the sleep the fan doesn't stop and the machine becomes very hot. This seems to happen only under the power manager high performance mode but I'm not sure. Twice I just closed my laptop and went to bed. and left the poor Y2P baking-hot overnight. As a result, the battery capacity estimate in the power manager is now 'Normal'. I believe it was 'Excellent' or 'Good' when I first received it. (FYI the capacity is now 54760mWh.)
I really love this machine. Yellow issue is not a killer but the sleep problem does troubles me a lot. I'm not able to return it because I just passed the 15-day return period. Any suggestion to solve those problem, folks?
    -K

I have observed two related issues on my Yoga 2 Pro. In agreement with a later poster to this thread, it will occasionally shut down (or crash?) rather than sleep. This happens occasionally when I have a dozen apps up in a configuration that I'd really like to go back to rather than have to set up again. I'm guessing this issue, shutting down improperly, could be a problem getting an app or service to sleep properly, giving up, and dying. One of the reasons I upgraded to the Yoga 2 Pro is that my old Sony Vaio did this same thing and I assumed a new machine would have the quirks worked out. Perhaps it's a Windows problem, but still should be addressed.
I have also found several times that I will take my Yoga 2 Pro out of my bag after hours of sitting and the two lights indicating that it is running will be lit solid with the laptop hot to the touch. I have no idea why a machine would turn itself on with the lid closed, even if the power button is bumped (which is very unlikely with its small size in a padded bag). I'd love for anyone at Lenovo to address whether this issue is known, common, being looked at? It's terribly frustrating to "start" with the battery half depleted because it's been busy generating heat in a confined place.

  • Yoga 2 Pro tablet mode issue in Win 10

I updated my Yoga 2 Pro to Windows 10. It is working fine in Desktop mode. However in table mode when it is flipped over to tablet or tent positions the performance is very pure (slow and intermittent, broken) . Once the screen is back to the laptop position the performance is as expected. Can someone please advice how this can be fixed ? thnaks in advance.

Hi rys,This is what I have so far.A) You are not alone. I and many other have reported this problem in other threads. In all other modes than laptop mode the CPU slows down making the PC unusable in tablet or tent mode. I just recently bought the yoga 2 pro for it's tent mode so this is very frustrating.B) Problem seems to be the DPTF driver. It's job is to detect when you are in tablet or tent mode and reduce the CPU speed (a bit) to prevent over-heating. The problem is it is too aggresive slowing my CPU to .75ghz.C) One obvious solution is to disable DPTF via BIOS. Those who did report succes. There PCs are now fast in all modes. I'm hesitating ... Don't want to disable but might have to ... The effects of disabling DPTF as I understand them are: PC gets hot, shorter battery life.D) The correct solution would be a new DPTF driver for windows 10 making the CPU runs at least at 1ghz. Hoping LENOVO realizes how many YOGA 2 Pro they sold with the "feature" of being able to switch from laptop to tablet to tent modes. Hoping LENOVO comes up with a solution.

  • Premier Pro Audio Sync Issues XDCAM EX1

Running Windows 7 Professional with Premiere Pro CS 5.5. Having issues with an 18 minute XDCAM EX1 clip. The audio is out of sync and sometimes doesn't play. When I drop the clip on the timeline, the audio wave file indicates that the audio is 1/2 the length of the video. I did not have this issue before upgrading my system from CS 5 to CS 5.5 and the clip works fine on my laptop, also running CS 5.5. Shorter clips don't seem to have this problem. The clip also works fine when imported to my FInal Cut system. I have reinstalled Premiere but it did not fix the issue. Anyone else have this kind of problem? Any ideas on where to look on my system to fix this issues.

Yes it is a spanned clip and yes the BPAV folder is intact. I am now having a similar issue now on my laptop with a different clip. Both clips that are having problems on my Widows 7 tower and laptop in Premiere Pro CS5.5 wil load and play fine on my Mac with the XDCAM transfer program...so this definetely seems to be a issue with Premiere Pro CS 5.5. Had no issues with CS5.

  • Macbook Pro clamshell mode issues!

    Hi All
    I have a 15inch late 2011 i7 MBP running Lion, I'm using it like a mini desktop on a stand/closed &
hooked upto a DELL 2408WFP monitor.
Problem is, behaviour is eratic especially after waking from sleep. Desktop image will have reverted to plain grey, windows
will shift position etc etc & worst case it wont wake to the external moitor or just hang!
Anyone else having the same kind of problems or miracle cure ??????
After upgrading from an old G4 mirror door running Tiger which all ran super smooth, my experience with everything
new has been terrible! Lion seems more like a Skunk !!
    Cheers
    Saul

Anyway I don't see how this is relevant to my current predicament.
If you intend to use the MBP as a portable computer on occasion, running it on battery power when you do, you won't need to worry about your original strident objection to the AC power requirement for clamshell mode:
There is no denying that this will ruin the battery life on my MBP because it will remain plugged in 24x7.
Of course if the machine were to remain plugged in all the time, it wouldn't make the slightest difference to you if its battery was ruined. You'd never need the battery.
So use it in clamshell mode most of the time, and once a month, unplug it, run the battery down and recalibrate it. You will be within the letter of Apple's advice on managing the battery, and you'll have nothing to worry about. It's only if you can't manage this minimal inconvenience that you'll have to regret your decision to buy a MBP instead of a Mini.
An anti-sleep hack won't turn off the built-in display when it's closed, as clamshell mode does, and it may prevent the machine from going to sleep for its own protection if it ever overheats, which is more likely with the display closed than open.

  • Blending mode in Adobe Premier Pro CS4 not working???

in Adobe Premier Pro CS4, the "multiply" blending feature is not  working properly. When there's no video underneath the "blending" layer,  it SHOULD not show anything, but instead the clip instead just shows  up.

Well, the problem is that you're assuming that the "nothing" in the gaps in your PPro sequence is "something," when really, it actually IS "nothing"...
OK, existentialism aside, when you see black in the Program Monitor that results from a gap between two clips, from a digital standpoint, there really is nothing there. Empty spaces in a PPro sequence are actually a fully transparent layer, created by an alpha channel that encompasses the entire frame. Since the Multiply mode is expecting RGB values to operate on, when it doesn't encounter any (due to the alpha channel) the effect is just ignored--that's why you see the clip with the Multiply mode when it crosses those gaps.
You can correct this by filling your gaps with "real" black, either from an imported graphic or from the black video generator in PPro. Simply edit a bit of it into the gap so that there are no holes, and your multiplied clips will disappear.
And for that matter, it's never a good idea to leave empty holes in a Premiere sequence; it's often the cause of rendering and exporting headaches.

  • Creative Suite 5 Premier Pro Encode Issues

    Hello Fellow Experts,
I am having a problem with my Adobe Creative Suite 5 Premier Pro software. I spent a long time working on a movie and when It tries to Encode in Adobe Media Encoder, it wants to take 10 hours for 2 minutes. The file that I'm trying to encode is not complicated at all. It only consists of 20 pictures (dimensions less then 2500x2000) and one sound track.
There are transitions and a few effects in the sequence, but not enough to make it take 10-12 hours for just 2 minutes!
I've already given my 32 bit laptop more virtual memory, and that fixed a low memory error, but it is still wanting to take too long.
The original file is over 40 minutes long so it would really help if someone had an idea for me. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
I've encoded 3 minute clips before and it only took 4 hours...
I don't have access to a better computer either.
    Any ideas?

Nobody can know. Your info is at best rather broad and generic, at worst vague. In any case, your computer seems seriously underpowered and from the program possibly being too busy with decoding the full 40 minutes first to issues with disk based caches on slow drives to specific CoDec and hardware acceleration issues I could imagine a million things going on. Just because you only use a handful of effects doesn't mean that those otehr things couldn't drag your system down. Extensive file I/O can be a real killer on any project. Well, whatever. What you see is probably perfectly normal within what you can expect on your system. Some housekeeping like defragemnting disks and removing old temp files might improve matters slightly, but I realyl think short of buying a better computer there is not much you can do...

  • How do I remedy storage issues with Adobe Premier Pro?

I'm trying to download a trial version of Adobe Premier Pro. It's saying that I don't have adequate storage. However, the download only requires 3914MB but I have 10GB's worth of storage in my drive. What should I do?

ReneM I would recommend making additional storage space available.  If you believe you are receiving this message in error then please review your installation log files to determine the exact cause of your error.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret your installlaton log files at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • Aspect Ratio Issues in Premier Pro CS 5.5

I'm trying to produce a DVD for my daughter's school and my wife bought me a copy of CS 5.5 to help (thanks lovely wife!).
I made a number of rookie mistakes when originally trying to produce the final video, but I think I have managed to correct most of them. Sadly, the final product still does not play correctly on a DVD player.
Here are the attributes of the original source footage (from Windows):
And here are the settings from PP for a similar file (same settings, just a file from a little later in the filming process)
And finally, here are the settings for the sequence that I created by right-clicking on the footage in PP and creating a new sequence from the file:
The problem is this... The footage plays correctly in PP when previewed. It plays fine when exported as media and played on my PC, but when played through a media player (as a digital file) the aspect ratio is off and the file seems constrained horizontally, which pushes the top and bottom of the footage off screen (not sure I'm describing this well).
Also, when I use Encore to produce a DVD as a test, the same issue occurs. So I can only assume that the problem is the render from PP.
Can anyone help? Do you need more info to help? I'm getting frustrated... time for a beer while I wait for replies.
    Thanks in advance

Once I realised that I'd made some mistakes with the processing, I started doing some tests with a sample piece of footage. This has allowed me a much shorter render time when testing the settings.
    Here's what I did:
I took the piece of footage and imported it into a blank Premier Pro project (with no sequences). Then I created a new squence from the file (by right-clicking and selecting "create new sequence from file). Then I dickered with the footage, inserted some picture in picture and changed the speed of some of the footage (all things I intend to do with the final production). Then I sent that to a brand new Encore project created by sending the sequence via dynamic link.
Once I was in Encore, I made sure the project made sense (set the end action etc...) then I set it to build a .ISO file. I then burned that to disc (a standard 4.7Gb DVD-R) and I also sent the ISO to my DViCO TViX media player. Whether I play the disc on my Sony Blu-Ray player or the ISO on my media player, the aspect ratio is wrong. But if I play the same ISO or disc on my PC - it works fine!
I've yet to try it on another player, but I think there's something fundamentally wrong with my process, or the way I'm doing this.
Here's a piece of footage from a camera that had EXACTLY the same setting as the original footage (I used this piece of footage because it's straight from the camera - most of the files from the main camera are too big to share):

(If that didn't work, I can try again...)

  • Issue with blend mode colour dodge?

So I'm not all that new to photoshop, I'd probably put myself in the intermediate category, but for some reason I haven't been able to figure this issue out, and I would love some help. I was doing a tutorial, and it mentioned we needed to change the blend mode of our photo to color dodge. I found color dodge fine, but for some reason when I tried to apply it, nothing happened. The tutorial mentioned grouping the layers, which I did, still no change.
So I found another tutorial that broke the process down, but I've still been unable to apply color dodge to what I'm working on. When I did apply colour dodge, I got this:
I have no idea what to do about the red circle. I'm sure this is a totally ridiculous error, but I'd love some help!
Here's what I'm attempting to change, with no success:
Here's the picture I would ultimately like to apply colour dodge to:
Again, I'm sure this is really simple, but I haven't found an easy answer, so any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

What you expect to happen after applying Color Dodge? With Blue Fill layer on top and white pixels beneath, applying Color Dodge will produce what you see on your screen. Same will happen if you move layer with white pixels on top of layer with blue fill color. There is some mistake in tutorial.
