Premier Pro CC can't edit XDCAM EX footage

Adobe: Please fix the bug that prevents Premiere Pro CC from playing XDCAM EX footage properly.  It plays with glitches, pixelated, horrible, unusable.

I'm working with XDCAM HD (MXF from PDW700) and XDCAM (MP4 from EX3) in Premiere CC....
Everything works fine...maybe something wrong with your system?

  • Is Premier Pro CS6 better to edit AVCHD than CS5?

I am presently at Creative Studio CS5 that I have used to edit DV with Premier Pro CS5 successfully.   I also use other applications in Creative Studio and mocha Pro V3.
I upgraded to a hex core computer with SSD and 2 RAID HDs to decrease rendering times and better performance for AVCHD.  Now that I have upgraded from DV to AVCHD, is upgrading to CS6 a better choice to edit AVCHD files?

I don't remember any performance difference between the two, but there are several feature differences that make CS6 a worthy upgrade.  Specifically, Adjustment Layers first appeared in CS6.  I'd hate to go back to editing without those.

  • Can't edit xdcam HD 422 in CS5.5

I can't figure out why I can't play any XDCAM HD 422 footage in PPRO 5.5
When I first open PPRO I can usually play a take in the source window once. If I try to play the same footage a second time the source monitor goes black.
That also happens if I open the footage in the timeline.
Do you think I have a bug in the software?
My specs are up to the requirements for CS5.5.
    Anybody with the same problem?
    Thanks,
    Paulo Zero

Ok well CS6 had it's own problems with the footage - it kept giving me the message "the importer encountered a generic error" - thanks Adobe for the extremely unhelpful error message.
I believe (though this is just a guess) that the problem stems from the process of copying the footage from the optical discs to a hard drive - in my case I used a Sony PDW-U1 XDCAM drive to copy to a Westerm Digital USB hard drive.  I thought I kept the file structure intact by simply dragging the entire contents of each optical disc to a folder on the USB drive named Disc 01, Disc 02 and so on.  When I browsed to those folders using the Adobe Media Browser it displayed the clips correctly - so it certainly seemed like it should work - yet for some reason it didn't - repeatedly.
I found a 'reasonable' work-around that I know works with CS6 and CS5.5 - you simply convert the MXF file to MXF OP1A using Adobe Media Encoder.  If you make your output options the same as your source footage it's lossless and encodes at near real time (or better, depending on your system.)  Once the files have been converted they load right in to Premiere just as you'd expect.
In my case I didn't need audio so I just opened windows explorer and did a search in the XDCAM HD422 CLPR folder by putting '?????V??.MXF' in the search bar.  I then copied the found files into a new folder, and made that folder a 'watch' folder in Adobe Media Encoder and let it plug away for a couple hours.
I suppose I should be thankful that Adobe's Media Encoder at least works as promised, but after THREE lost days spent pulling my hair out while trying every conceivable combination of drivers, software versions, computer systems and so on - the only thank you I have for Adobe is "Thanks for nothing."
It's obvious they were aware of XDCAM issues with CS5, such as the well documented looping audio problem, among others - yet they didn't and still haven't addressed it, and obviously they never will.  I know it's unreasonable to expect every bug to be fixed in a program as complicated as Premiere, but this one really frustrated the hell out of me.  I was about to buy a new laptop just to see if that would help.  Thankfully I left Best Buy without buying one since it turns out my old system(s) are perfectly capable of handling XDCAM HD 422.

  • Extraction to Edit in Audition from Premier Pro is messed up!!!

So evidently, Right clicking the clip the premier pro time line and editing in audition screws up the extraction process creating a tiny file that does nothing.
My work around for my solution I figured out myself is to do this:
Right click the audio file in the media browser and open into audition from premier pro. The extracted file I then edited in audition and then had to drag the extracted file from media browser in premier pro to the timeline sequence.
BTW, Adobe Phone Support is complete crap. I seemingly got hung up on after a long time of silence and being asked to hold on as he appears to look into my situation.
I can make it work but it doesn't work the way Adobe intended I presume.
Pretty irritating. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance! !

How big is the audio file?  Premiere cannot extract audio greater than 4gb.  It is limited to old WAV file extraction.  It doesn't support import of WAV larger than 4gb either.
    TIPS:
    1.  If you have big audio in timeline, use blade to clip it up, and then select all clips and edit in audition.
    2.  In Audition, if you have a large WAV stereo file, split it up to mono channels.  If it is still too big, export it to MOV or AVI with Linear PCM data (same data, just a different file wrapper) and it will not matter how big the file is.  You can import that to Premiere just fine.
    3.  If you are working with 5.1 audio, always EXPORT to a MOV or AVI file in linear PCM.  You will retain 5.1 track data, and it will import as a single track in Premiere that you can adjust in audition where needed, or use a mixer in premiere to get it right.
    4.  If your audio is stereo and 1-3 hours, 48k16bit will be huge and 96k at 16bit will kill the WAV file limit at 1.5 hours.  Separate the channels and you should be okay.  With 5.1 of the same length, you might also get away with the same channel separation.  Beyond that, you'll need a different file container.  If you still wish to separate audio, do so, it won't hurt anything.

  • How can I make my AVCHD mov. files work in premier pro?

I used Panasonic HDC-SD60 for a short film for work.  This has over about 40 clips with around 3 hours of footage However when I import the .mov files from the media browser the audio seems fine but the footage is in a sort of slow mo, and out of sync. I want to edit and do post-production using adobe premier pro, and after effects. However the footage seems to be working in final cut X. There is no lag with playback on quicktime either. What's making this happen? I've read about variable frame rates, it's seems most common in iPhones and tablets? Is that something that the panasonic do as well? Is there a fix? Or should I jump ship and make do with a slightly more limited features of Final Cut?

That does not specifically say Variable FRAME Rate, so I don't know a cure... but, see below

  • How to blur the face of the person in the video using Adobe Premier Pro CS5

    Hi
I have a video captured from a flipcam. I have Adobe Premier Pro CS5 and I don't have  any knowledge of Adobe Premier Pro CS5 . Please can some one post a tutorial as how to blur the face of the person in the video using Adobe Master Collection CS5
Any help will be grateful .
    Thanks

You are not really in the right place.  I don't think you can edit video with Photoshop CS5, but Premier Pro CS5 can definitely do it.  Off the top of my head, copy the video track on the timeline, (hold down the Alt/Opt key and drag).
Then Effects > Video Effects > Stylize > Mosaic.
Adjust number of blocks in Effects controls.
Then add Video effects > Keying > Four point matte
Adjust position of matte in effects controls.
If you want the matte to track with the video, move to start point on time line and adjust position.  Move to end point and edit position.  Matte will now move from one point to the other.
If you want more and better help, go to the Prem Pro forum.

  • Problems importing Sony Handycam mpg files into Premier Pro CS4

I'm investigating Premier Pro CS4 for video editing and if I can make it work okay then I will purchase the Master Collection. Otherwise I may go to the MAC and use Final Cut. I need immediately to edit files downloaded from a Sony HandyCam that come off in an mpg format I believe it is (MPEG-2). My understanding is that the Premier Pro supports the importing of mpg files.
When I attempt to import one of theses mpg files I get the error, "Unsupported file format or damaged file." I know the files are okay because I can play them with Windows Media Player and have been able to edit them with Window Movie Maker. Now I need a more robust editing environment and am looking at Premier Pro to be the solutions.
Has anyone had experience with importing mpg files? Is there a Codec needed? If so where can I get it and how do I install it?

Adobe wouldn't help me on the phone, as I haven't got a support contract. Perfectly rational by them, just stupid.
I've asked my software supplier to forward on some questions and a link to this thread to Adobe support and they should be looking at it soon.
Also, there is another possible solution that might help those of you with full versions.
There is some advice here on one way to give Premiere Pro the ability to import MPEGs.
    http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/premiere/pro/import/mpeg-ac3.html
This is very attractive to me - as I know the AC3 audio codec is used by my MPEG files and it sounds like it could be a solution. Of course, I've tried it, and I still get the same error.
I ran the files through TSRemux and got the same 'file format not supported' error message.
I've also been trying to import a .mov file into the trial version and I get the same error. Jim, would you be able to help me by saying in which other ways the trial version is limited?
