Premier Pro File Size

I am new to Premier Pro and after creating my first video with this software I realize the file size is HUGE!
100mb+
What are you guys using to compress your files for internet distribution?
Thanks!

Hey! I install routers on T1lines all the time. It is what I do for a living on my day job. Unless they are using MPLS to route through a centralized firewall, then 1.5Mb/s should be fast enough for most locations with less than a dozen people or so, even if they are routing VoIP. At least that should be the case if the traffic shaping is set correctly. Unless they all want to watch the videos at the same time.
As for sacrificing, you missed the third leg of the stool. Frame size. With a smaller frame size it is possible to reduce the bit rate without sacrificing quality.  It depends on the content of course. Training calls for bigger frames. A word from the CEO just needs to be big enough to see his/her facial expressions.
That said, the Vimeo presets produce a pretty decent video. However, I see a problem with your settings.
First of all, 720X480 is a frame size designed for non square pixels. If you change over to 640X480 you will have a true 4:3 frame. I thought you would have wanted a 16:9 frame. If you truly want a 1280X720 (720p) setting, then you need to go with a different preset. Also, I recommend that you deinterlace the export, meaning go progressive instead of using the DV NTSC setting. So select one of the 720p presets.
Try the Vimeo 720p preset. That gave me 38,954KB at a data rate of 5Kb for a one minute video (00;01;00;02) with a frame size of 1280X720 progressive instead of deinterlaced.
The Vimeo SD widescreen preset gave me a 16,976KB file at a 2K data rate with a frame size of 640X360.
Neither are terribly small by standards I used a decade ago, but I assume better PCs and a faster connection than I did back then. If you really think that 10Mb is too big for a one minute video, I highly recommend that you reconsider. To get 60 seconds of video that was already compressed pretty tight and was still a file of just about 200MB (using HDV at 25Mb/s as a source) down to one twentieth of that, you really have some hurdles.
To get it down even farther recalls the day I wanted to put a video of Arlo Guthrie on my web site so I cut the frame rate to 15 frames per second and exported a frame size of only 160X120 and achieved a 1.6MB file with a duration of 4:28 at a data rate of 17Kbp/s. http://www.stevengotz.com/videos/arlo_8.wmv
Download it to play in Windows Media Player if you want to see what I mean - don't play it in a browser. It just doesn't look right. One of these days I need to find that tape and post it at full 480p. I really love that guy.

  • Win 7 can't find Premier Pro file associations

Win 7 doesn't know that a .prproj file is a Premier Pro file. When I go to Set Default Programs, Premier Pro isn't even listed nor any of the other Production Premium CS6 programs so it appears that ALL associations with Production Premium are gone. The program is still there in Program Files and my desktop shortcut still works. Any ideas on how to fix this? BTW I did a reboot and that didn't fix it.

Steven is correct, you never can go back to an earlier version with Adobe Premiere with the project file.  If your preceding version was CC you might try the trial version of CC 2014, but remember that once you enter the trial version cycle you never can go back.
There was a way to hack the project file on the CS versions but that disappeared with CC.

  • Premiere Pro file size

I've loaded a video from camera into Premiere Pro CC which is over 8GB, but it has a lot of blank footage at the beginning and especially at the end.  i need to get it down to 4.7 GB to burn it onto a DVD.  I've trimmed the blank footage at the beginning and the end, but the file size has not changed.  Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Export it as MPEG2-DVD and the file size will be reduced.
    Thank you.

  • Encoding for Encore from Premiere Pro - File Size

I'm working on a Blu-ray project that contains four separate tutorials, each with several individual clips.  I exported each clip (chapter) out of After Effects CS6 using the standard H264 preset.  The tutorials range from 2 to 5 hours each.  After all was said and done, the total file size of all H264 video clips was just under 25GB, perfect for a Blu-ray burn.
I created four sequences in Premiere Pro, one for each tutorial.  All of the H264 video files were brought into Premiere Pro, chapter markers were added, ready to rock.
When I attempted to export each sequence using the H264 Blu-ray preset, I found that using that preset would result in a grand total of about 75GB worth of data.  So I selected the MPEG2 Blu-ray preset, and it was almost the same.  I manually adjusted target bitrate settings, dropped quality to as low as it would go, and still the estimated file size far exceeded the 25GB I had available.
All tutorials total about 15 hours of 1280x720 30p content.  I realize that's a ton of data, but AE exported all of this content using H264 and the grand total file size was under 25GB.  But bringing those very same video clips into Premiere Pro, assembling them, and exporting them results in much, much larger files.  I even attempted to import the AE exports directly into Encore to avoid having to re-encode anything, and still it estimated that the project's file size exceeded 75GB, even though the source footage of H264 video was less than 25GB.
Right now I'm down-rezzing all of the footage to 720x480 and the file sizes are smaller, although I'll still need to decrease the bit rates significant if I have any shot of dumping all of this onto a single 25GB Blu-ray.
I do realize that 15 hours is a lot for a single disc, but what I don't understand is how I can have 15 hours of H264 exported out of AE result in less than 25GB, but using that exact same footage in PPro/Encore results in over 75GB of footage.
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    Windows 7 64-bit
Adobe Creative Suite Production Premium CS6
    (After Effects/Premiere Pro/Encore)

The thing is, the AE exports look just fine.  (The tutorials are just a bunch of screen capture/software stuff.)  I didn't mess with any of the default preset settings for H264 out of AE, but yeah, they must've been encoded at pretty low bitrates.
I wasn't aware that BD specifications have minimum bitrate requirements, so that would explain why I'm unable to decrease the bitrates within PPro or Encore.  Thanks for the info on that.  I just figured as long as the footage was at least 720P with square pixel ratio encoded in H264 or MPEG2 I'd be fine, but apparently not!
The tutorials are for my own personal use, so I'm not too concerned about decreased resolution if I am able to make the SD content fit.  Otherwise, yeah, burning multiple discs is my only option.
    Thanks for the prompt feedback.

  • Premiere Pro file size and timeline duration limits?

Hello. Are there any file size limits for importing JPEG or MPEG files and exporting WMV? I am looking at some extremely long footage. Thanks!
Message was edited by: Kevin Monahan

I understand clients ask for things, and normally I would suggest that you merely export a second time to show them the H.264 results. Higher quality and smaller file.
I don't know how long it would take to export a 24 hour sequence though. That might make it a waste of time. Unless it can be done overnight, I suppose.
You file size should be interesting. It will depend on how low you can take the bitrate and be happy. Or, it might be a case of using a higher bit rate and just dealing with a large hard drive.
Please post again with your results. This is a new one for me, and I would love to hear about it.

    I remove

  • Project Bloating and Repair in Premiere Pro CS6; Max Project File Size? Adobe Coders Welcome...

    Greetings.
After a few browsing sessions, I haven't found direction for a specific problem within a project bloat. First and foremost; we're always backed up. I have a restoration copy of the project that I will reference herein. Check that off the list.
Numerous people have posted here and around Creative Cow with problems regarding an expanding file size using CS6; watching files go from 300mb to 2.8gb. The unfortunate problem is when the project crosses a magical line that results in an inablity to open, import, export, or access sequences contained therein. Has anyone addressed a solution to repairing Premiere CS6 save files? Reducing file bloat? I haven't seen anything (recall the FCP7 repair days... solutions existed because problems were frequent; thankfully not so bad with Adobe).
Does anyone inside the code size know the maximum project file size that Premiere can read? I created a monster... Over 200 sequences utilizing 4.5TB of footage, stretching from Red codecs to EXCam to MPEG4 and H264. And for some time, the project size was manageable. Then, it inflated. And one day, randomly stopped opening. None of the auto-saves open.
Just curious. Files aren't the problem, but the 2.8GB save file is. Machine specs // etc. are openly available if required; no bad ram, no problems with all projects (just this one beast).
    Cheers,
    Jon Michael Ryan

  • Premiere Pro CS6, large project file size - crashing etc

Working on a project in Premiere Pro CS6 - also incorporating after effects and using 2 external plugins (Beauty Box and Factory Pro FX).  Project is over 500MB, lots of comps, titles etc.  project seems to be corrupt on my machine. .The project crashes continually. I cannot save my work, I cannot export, I cannot create XML and media is linking incorrectly.  When I pull the project in on my laptop (separate machine) which has CC 2014 running, the project is FINE.  That said - I need to work off of the more powerful machine to do this job - so need to find a way to troubleshoot.  Note - project opens on my partner's machine, she can save + export, etc - however the media in still linking incorrectly on her machine as well (note partner does not have the 2 plugins, beauty box and factory Pro FX) - that said, it still links to the wrong media.
We have worked out a work-arond where we pull all of the AE sequences out of Premiere and into separate AE project which has made the project workable again but we know something is WRONG and we need to fix for future ASAP.
    please help!
    thank you

  • Attempting to export file at 2880x1440, but premier pro changes it to 2048x1024

    Hi all,
attempting to export file at 2880x1440, but premier pro changes it to 2048x1024.
I first noticed this issue when trying to change the frame rate of a file using twixtor, but now this is
    a recurring problem.
Using a Mac Pro, with adobe premier pro cc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best
    Erfan

Okay, thanks Jeff, that makes sense.
I have now attempted this however I can't find the option for 5.2, also it is the frame size that I can't alter, I can however export at 60fps @ 2048x1024 and the final file plays fine.
Again I really appriciate you taking the time,
    thanks,

  • How can I make my AVCHD mov. files work in premier pro?

I used Panasonic HDC-SD60 for a short film for work.  This has over about 40 clips with around 3 hours of footage However when I import the .mov files from the media browser the audio seems fine but the footage is in a sort of slow mo, and out of sync. I want to edit and do post-production using adobe premier pro, and after effects. However the footage seems to be working in final cut X. There is no lag with playback on quicktime either. What's making this happen? I've read about variable frame rates, it's seems most common in iPhones and tablets? Is that something that the panasonic do as well? Is there a fix? Or should I jump ship and make do with a slightly more limited features of Final Cut?

That does not specifically say Variable FRAME Rate, so I don't know a cure... but, see below

  • Reducing file size #2...Preview, Quartz Filter vs Adobe Pro Optimize

Questions on reducing a pages to pdf file…I will post each question seperatly.
    2) I read that you can reduce file size of a pdf in preview with a quartz filter. I created my own filer and it worked as expected. But, I also have Adobe Acrobat Pro, with save as PDF Optimized. The pro seems to have much more capability than the quartz filters.
Is one better that the other to use? The adobe optimize (standard settings) took it from 20 to 6 megs.
    THanks, Bob

The Adobe Acrobat settings you chose are probably using .jpeg to reduce the file size.
.jpegs are lossy. ie You lose detail and sharpness the more you compress the image.
The Quartz filters are usually of very high quality, but they are a black box and you need to understand what the settings are in each one. Quartz filters are extremely powerful, fast and as I said usually high quality but I suggest you experiment and see if they meet your needs.
