Premier Pro (Mac) weirdness!

So I finally gave in to the Mac's are best arguement and have just installed Premier Pro CC on my shiny new MacBook... and it's all going wrong. Quite apart from the trauma of trying to use a Mac after using PCs since the days when they ALL said IBM on the front, Premier is doing some weird things. All help appreciated!
Weirdness number 1 - My control buttons don't work. They highlight on mouseover but on clicking do nothing. Marking in points, selecting play in the preview window, adding markers, etc. requires me to use keyboard shortcuts. I can select files, scrub the timelines, everything except get a response from the buttons. Any ideas?
Weirdness number 2 - My favourite transitions are missing. I see from another forum post that this is because Adobe just happen to provide different transitions for Mav and PC versions. Why? This is not logical Captain Kirk. Does anyone know a workaround. I'm browsing the web for plugins but would welcome any suggestions... I particularly need a spin in and a tumble away (in the 3d effcts section on a PC)
That's actually it for weirdness, sorry if you were hoping for ectoplasm and moving furniture. Everything else is working okay. I can't get my Contour ShuttlePro to work but these things happen and I think I prefer the CTRL+ Console App on my iPad.
Thanks for reading.

From reports I've read, the difference in quality when rendered to MPEG2 is indiscernible, and you can closely match the original file spec (1920 x 1080 @ 30p, 38 MB/s). I don't believe that is possible with P2 export. Another option is to create proxy files for editing then replace with source clips when ready for export (explained here: http://www.vimeo.com/2641870).

  • 5d mk2 + CS4 Premier PRo + MAC - HELP!

I've been trying to find an answer to how I can edit my 5d MK II files on CS4 PP for mac. Most answers relate to windows machines and other answers just state that getting a mac with FCP is the answer. I can edit my full 1080p files in iMovie. So far everything i've tried on PP CS4 has resulted in VERY choppy footage which is uneditable. I downloaded the trial version to give Aobe a chance. I already own the Photoshop cs3 and Lightroom 2.2 and would not mind the discount in the upgrade package. But if its not gonna work , FCP is my future. Anyone out there tried thi and liked Premier better than FCP?
Transcoding to lower quality and working with proxies sounds like a hell of a lot of work if i could just spend a few hundred buck more and get FCP?

  • Newbie with premier pro on a mac and AVCHD

    hello all
my head is swirling with all the info on this forum, so I'm hoping someone can answer a few questions.
first my system - new macbook pro 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo, 2 gb of ram, mac osx 10.5.5. I run in "hi performance" mode, for maximum video performance.
    premier pro CS4.0.0
    camera: canon hf11 vixia
drive where I'm parking the video: g tech g raid 1 terrabyte, FW800.
so people tell me that my system is plenty powerful enough to playback my vids in the timeline without stuttering.
I'm shooting at 24p with the CINE preset on the camera. resolution is set at FXP, which is 1920x1080, 17 mbps.
I copy the MTS files from the camera over to the raid in the finder. then I create a new project, and in the new sequence dialog, I select the AVCHD 1080 24p. the preset info is: For editing AVCHD Formats recorded in 1920x1080 square pixels (non-anamorphic). 16:9 progressive-scan 1080p HD video at 23.976 frames per second. 48kHz audio.
    so far so good
I import the clips by selecting "import" in the file menu, then I direct it to the MTS files on the raid and clik import, they all come in no problem. I can dbl-clik them and they pop open a source window and playback pretty much with no problem (sometimes they take a few seconds to get going, but then they're fine).
first problem is - the clips are listed as 29.97 in the project window.
2nd problem, when I drag them into the sequence window and playback, they stutter.
I'm guessing that because premiere thinks that they are 29.97 and my sequence is set at 24, it's trying to fix it as it goes and that's causing the stuttering. this might explain why they play fine in a source window, but stutter in a sequence window, even with no edits. but maybe I'm wrong.
3rd problem - every time I do an export across a seam, it crashes, or only exports the sequence up to the edit, then stops. (the canon splits the video into 1.9 gig chunks, so you end up with multiple MTS files if it's a long clip).
    can anyone help?
    thanks
    gh

Don't shoot the messenger because he is bearing bad news!
Get a more powerful computer. The one you have is way underpowered for AVCHD material. Your processor is too slow, you do not have sufficient memory, your disk configuration is below standard. That about sums it up.
Bet your salesperson never told you that next to the camera, you needed a new computer...?
He is eagerly awaiting your return to the shop and has already prepared your order. All you have to do is sign and pay....
PS. Even on 8-core Macs with 16 GB RAM, people are struggling with AVCHD.

Why do you have the nVidia CUDA drivers installed on your nMP?  It doesn't have any CUDA hardware on it.  That's what Pr is tripping over.
Remove CUDA.  Kill it with fire.  Nuke it from orbit.
    Then try again.

Premier pro play back screen goes black a freezes every 15 minute . This is my second mac pro with identical problems.

    SOLVED!!!!!
SO I did some more digging around and read ATI cards seem to overheat easily.  I knew the fan was working, but after closer inspection I realised there was ALOT of built up dust on the card and clogging the fan and airflow.  Blew it out with alot of compressed air, stuck it back in the Mac and BAM...no black screens.  I tested it by streaming 6 video sources...doing 2 screen captures at once as well as watching a HD movie in fullscreen.  Did all this for 30 minutes and no crashes.  I also downloaded an app to monitor the temps inside the computer and the expansion bay stays at 41 degrees.  No clue what it was before but obviously it was hotter than that.  So my problem is solved!  Funny that 10.7.5 made the card work harder.  I wonder if its off loading some CPU stuff to the GPU for processing more than 10.7.4 so its just working a bit harder and so it heats up faster....

  • Continuing problems with Matrox and Premier Pro CS5.5 Mac

What is wrong with Adobe and Matrox? Can't they get it together! Ever since switching from Final Cut Pro 7 to Premier Pro 5 and then 5.5 I have been having problems playing back footage from Premier through the Matrox Mini X02 box and then HDMI into a Sony HD monitor. No matter what I do with installs and re installs, the problem persists. The problem is that the Matrox software/hardware seems incapable of providing one simple little thing...playing back my Premier CS 5.5  1920 timeline into my Sony TV. The sound stutters and stops, the playback freezes and Premier won't start again until I reboot my Mac. Sometimes I have to repair disk permissions to get Premier to work again.  My hardware should be adequate. I have a MacPro 3.1 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon running in 64 bit mode under OS X 10.6.8, with 20 GB of RAM and a NVidia Quadpro FX4800 video card. I am running a Raid drive for the video.
Now I know that Adobe is trying to get as many FCP users as it can so I am wondering if there are other Mac users on this forum who have swtiched and who are having the same problems? I have read the reports on the Matrox forum and there seems to be a real saga over the Mini Max 02 and its software. There have been countless software revisions!
Should I abandon Matrox and go for a Black Magic card. I understand the Black Magic Pro card only does 1920 interlaced. I want a card that will be able to transfer anything Premier can display on its timeline and put it on my Sony Bravada. So that means progressive as sell as interlaced.

Hi all, matrox came good with a monitoring solution for premiere pro which now works perfectly. Not tried it with a deck connected but at least I can see what I am doing...
    Here it is:
Please check the following procedure. You can just do steps 5 to 13 at first. If it does not work then redo all steps. Let me know if it helps.
    1.    Uninstall the Matrox driver using the Matrox Uninstaller. The system will restart.
    2.    After the MAC has restarted, go to yourusername->library->application support->adobe->Premiere Pro->5.5 and delete the 'Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs' file  or use the ‘Preference Manager’ application: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
    3.    Restart MAC
    4.    Re-download and re-install the Matrox driver software
    5.    Go to System Preferences -> Sound -> Output
    6.    Change the default device to anything other than Matrox
    7.    Open a new project and select a Matrox sequence preset.
    8.    Open the Premiere Preferences menu.
    9.    Click on ‘Audio Hardware’ and set the default device to anything other than Matrox
    10.   Click on ‘Audio Output Mapping’ and set the ‘Map Output’ to anything other than Matrox
    11.   Close Premiere and re-open (only if you made any changes)
    12.   Open a new project and select a Matrox sequence preset.
    13.   Select a Matrox sequence, load a video clip, test playback.
Note: In Premiere, if you are working in a Matrox sequence and want to also output the Source window content through the MXO2, then you can do so by opening Premiere Preferences -> Player Settings -> and setting the value to 'Matrox Player'. Your source window video and audio will now be output through the MXO2.
Note: Audio output through the system sound card is not supported when working in a Matrox sequence.

  • Can I hand off a Premiere Pro CC file created in Windows to another editor who works in Premier Pro CC Mac OS?

When you say converted, do you mean you got a dialogue box after double clicking saying the file needed to be converted?  Or some other kind of procedure.  thanks again.

  • Premier pro is very slow on my mac

what are the requirements for a mac book to run premier pro smooth with out any problems in rendering on real time
    please help!

It depends on what you are editing, media size/type/codec, if you are using lots of effects, etc.
Here is a link to the System Requirements from Adobe: System requirements | Adobe Premiere Pro
Are you referring to a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro? Only the high-end Pro comes with a real GPU which will make real-time effects and rendering much easier. A MacBook Air is going to be a lot slower doing the same work. Remember the RAM requirements, many MacBook Airs don't even have the recommended 8GB or RAM.

  • Adobe Premier Pro cc is crashing on my Mac Pro

I am using Premier Pro CC on my new Mac Pro desktop. It is powerful but the program is crashing frequently. I have reinstalled the program and rebooted the computer. What could be the problem? Thank you.

I was suspicious that merging the audio and video files (whose bit rates did not match) may have been the culprit. So, I batch converted all of the .WAV audio from my Tascam DR-05, to bit rate matched .AIF files. With these new audio files, I remerged the audio and video files. Thus far, the crashing has gone away.
Hope this helps the many others facing this Mac PP CS6 crashing issue.

  • Hello, I am editing my final project at university on Premier Pro CC on mac, but when I try to load my project in Premier Pro CC for windows on my home pc I get  "codec missing or unavailable".

Hello, I am editing my final project at university on Premier Pro CC on mac, but when I try to load my project in Premier Pro CC for windows on my home pc i get  "codec missing or unavailable". Something to do with Apples' ProRes 422 LT codec. Is there a way round this problem?

I just went to the Miraizon site, who has been the sole licensee of ProRes for PC, to see if their $150/license download was still at that price.
This is what I found ...
They only sell a few of their other products, and the ProRes/DNxHD codec package only generates an email form to "support".
I'm afraid you'll have to transcode those files to something like DNxHD or an avi codec or something to work them via PC. And I'd thought about purchasing that codec pack from them but kept putting it off. Now, I wish I'd bought it. Ah well.

  • Mac Pro technical specifications optimized for Photoshop and Premier Pro, yet affordable

I will replace my old desktop Mac Pro with a new one.  I am looking for advice for the appropriate configuration choices for the new Mac Pro for use with the most current versions of Photoshop and Premier Pro.  This has to be balanced with a budget between $4000 to $6500.  I will use multiple hard drive storage for my files, but I am not asking for any advice for this,  My Photoshop use is for photo editing, with multiple images of at least 25MB files for panoramas and high dynamic range, and composites (have used Photoshop for 10 years).  I have not begun to use Premier Pro for video editing, but will primarily use it over the next 18 months to edit family home movies.
The primary technical questions are which GPU D300 or D500,  CPU speed and number of cores 4 or 6 or 8, and memory DDR3 ECC 12GB or 16GB or 32 GB or 64GB.
I have read various Internet articles and reviews of the Mac Pro, but find that I am unable to come up with a final choice.  One article stated that Adobe has designed its software to effectively use the new Mac Pro GPUs and CPU cores.
    Thank you,
    MIKE

I would suggest atleast 16GB of ram with 32GB really what you want because of the dual GPU''s. If you don't have enough ram to feed both video cards then both those cards will have limited performance. The D300 cards are really a waste. I wouldn't bother with anything less than the D500 cards especially if you plan to use Premiere. AMD cards already have half the performance that Nvidia cards do with Adobe GPU acceleration in Premiere. I wouldn't make it worse with the D300 cards. I would also suggest the 6 core CPU over the 4 Core. Otherwise just get the new Imac instead of you want a Mac.

  • I have downloaded adobe premier pro cs4 to my mac book pro. How do I now install and open it?

I have downloaded adobe premier pro cs4 to my mac book pro. I have the serial number. I purchased it in 2010. I have a new system and I want to transfer the license to this system. how do i now install and open it?

Sounds like you've downloaded the OS X version of the game, which won't run on iOS devices. You need either this version <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars/id557137623?mt=8> or this version <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars-free/id578915438?mt=8> for your iPod Touch.
The versions for iPad are <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars-hd/id557138109?mt=8> and <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/angry-birds-star-wars-hd-free/id578909807?mt=8>.
Remember, all apps for your iPad or iPod Touch must be purchased through the iTunes App Store. You can do this directly on the devices by tapping App Store and searching for what you want.

  • Just loaded CS5.5 Production Premium for Mac and cannot get Premier Pro to open-error messages

Just loaded CS5.5 Production premium onto my iMac and I am getting an error message when I try to open Premier Pro i.e., [/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/Mulder64/shared/adobe/MediaCore/ASL/Foundation/Make/Mac/../../S rc/DirectoryRegistry.cpp-283].  I am finding similar issues with Encore.  Haven't been able to get through to Adobe help as yet, anyone have an idea?

Which language is your default system language set to? This is critical as you may have installed support for langauges that your version of CS cannot handle. The common fix is to choose File --> Info or File --> Explore Package and remove e.g. Asian languages...
