Premiere 10 rotates stills

Why does Premiere 10 automatically reverse the height and width of stills imported from Organizer on some stills but not others in the same sequence?  How can I prevent this from happening or rotate the image back to it's proper orientation?

Welcome to the forum.
Organizer is a cataloging utility, and is not an Image Editor. It's the same for Adobe's Bridge (Organizer's "big-brother" and included with many Adobe suties). When one does a rotation in Organizer, or Bridge, the result is ONLY for display purposes. The program now gets some metadata on how to display the image. No real Rotation (note capitalization) has been done, i.e. the pixels are totally unaltered.
PrE then Imports the actual pixel data, and disregards the display metadata, as it is dealing with pixels and not with just the display of the pixels.
Not sure how well Organizer does real pixel Rotation, but Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Bridge and Lightroom can do the actual pixel Rotation, but the Image must be Saved, to apply that real Rotation.
PrE will allow one to Rotate the Imported Image (does NOT affect the original Still Image on the HDD), via the Fixed Effect>Rotation.
I do all Rotation in Photoshop, and then do a Save_As PSD (Photoshop's native format), for Import into Premiere. I also do any necessary Scaling there too, so that I am not working with overly-large Still Images.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Pre-rotated stills from psd: don't show as rotated in psd, rotated in pr

there must be a sensor on my camera (shot on my canon 5d) that tells photoshop which way is up, because, though they were shot vertical (sideways) as stills, photoshop automatically shows them oriented correctly. yet, when i import them into premiere (cs3) they show sideways. for some reason the rotate function is spotty and produces irregular results in premiere, so i'd like to rotate in psd (version cs3) pre-import... but they show vertical already in psd... if i rotate them, they still come out sideways. anyone ever encountered this issue? thanks

Many organizer-type programs, do NOT actually Rotate the stills, but just add instructions in the metadata to tell an image viewing/editing program, how to display the image.
To get the image to actually Rotate, one needs to Open the file in, say PS, then do a Save of the now corrected orientation.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Elements 8 - Still pictures in PE are blurred compared to original

My system is Intel Q6600 CPU, Windows 7 64bit, 6GB memory, 1TB C: drive, 2TB E:drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 video card, Premiere Elements 8, using Microsoft Office Picture manager to look at still originals.
The Premiere Elements 8 project settings include editing mode = DVNTSC and Frame size = 720H x 480V.
My issue is the still picture in PE is blurry compared to the picture viewed in MS Picture Manager.  The pictures are either scanned or downloaded from web pages.  Here is a list of pictures with their file size and pixels count:
Scaned Pics not as good in PE as original
    Cecil about 1921 - 1.5KB - 954x1440 pixels
    Stephson & Nancy Shirey - 147KB - 480x720 pixels
    Cecil about 1927 - 678KB - 768x870 pixels
    Cecil about 1928 - 736KB - 696x948 pixels
    Cecil 193X - 1MB - 1044x1608 pixels
    Ceceil HS basketball team - 2.4MB - 2070x1416 pixels
    Cecil 1941 at gas station - 250KB - 924x1482 pixels
    Cecil Marian 1942 gas station - 336KB - 1092x1746
    pixels
Web Pics not as good in PE as download
    Cotton_field 1928 - 372KB - 1600x960 pixels
    Cotton plant 17KB - minor degrade - 350x304 pixels
    Turner School 1919 - 22KB - 450x275 pixels
    Douglas Aircraft Front - 299KB - 720x587 pixels
I burned a trial DVD to see if the picture quality would be better after processing onto DVD but it was not.
What can I do to improve PE picture quality?

Use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to scale the pictures before you import into PreElements
    Photo Scaling for Video http://forums.adobe.com/thread/450798
Also, do be aware that photo dpi (dots per inch) does NOT translate to video... I don't have the exact number handy, but I think a DVD resolution video is "about" 72 dpi (BluRay is higher, but since I don't do BluRay I have not even a guess at picture resolution)

Hi, MGW. Not many people here use PRE, so you'd probably get more answers in the PRE forum:

  • How do you rotate still image on timeline in CS 5.5.2 PP, when another timeline is open and video is off and audio only is used. ?

I am using a clip with video off and using audio only on second timeline.
The some still images need rotating,  (on the  main timeline ) it easy to do that in the monitor when I am not using an additional video timeline. however, I cannot orient the horizontal images to vertical .?
I have turned the second video off and , I am using audio only .
    Any ideas ?

it easy to do that in the monitor
Select image in timeline, then go up to the Effect Controls and highlight the word Motion.
Now a bounding box will appear in the Program Monitor.

  • Adobe reset my trial for Premiere pro but still isn't working?

I had an email saying that my Premiere Pro trial has been reset but when I try to use the software, it won't let me use it as it says my trial has expired. I tried unstalling everything, restarting and then downloading and installing everything again. Still not working.
Chat support hasn't been very helpful. Anyone ran into this problem?

    Hi Rave,
Adobe have stated that they have reset my trial period of Premiere Pro so that I can try out the new features of the 2014 release. I've attached an image of the email.

  • Can you purchase Premiere Pro CS5 still?

I work for a non profit and already own many of the Adobe CS products.
I need to get Adobe Premiere on my home computer (mac - where as my office computers are PC) but I don't want to pay for the Clout. Is there a way to still purchase Adobe CS5 or 5.5?

No, but you may buy the perpetual license version of Creative Suite 6

  • Premiere Pro CS6 still much faster than Premiere Pro CC

I am currently editing videos that were captured using screen recording software. The files have subsequently been converted to .WMV clips with a data rate of exactly 4.4 MB/sec (that's Megabytes/second). This data rate includes both video and audio.
There is no problem editing these clips in Premiere Pro CS6. Playback and scrubbing are fine at any quality setting and at any magnification size. Unfortunately, this is not the case with Premier Pro CC2014. This "new" version of Premier Pro chokes to death with attempting to play back or scrub the exact same clips. Even at 1/4 resolution, CC2014 struggles along. I can improve things a bit by turning off CUDA acceleration (which makes even less sense to me), however, CC2014 just can't do what CS6 does.
I introduced this issue a few months ago, but it obviously has not been resolved by Adobe. They are bringing new feature into CC2014 all the time, but I'd much rather they focus on getting the software to work properly, like CS6 does.

Totally agree!  C'mon on Adobe...let's fix the performance and the memory leakage!

  • Premiere pro CC  - still no time lengths on clips

So, I finally broke down and bought CC subscription in hopes of needed upgrades. Great to see thst the timeline now shows changed lengths as you drag one end shorter or longer, but as all other professional editors do now, please can Adobe add standard Clip Lengths to all clips on timeline as an additional option. This request seems to be a "No Brainer" and/but for some reason Adobe continues to leave this important feature out... Why?  (I know it's probably pretty hard to add the codec to the program as I notice that the initial clip 'names' are a floating layer upon themselves that don't scroll with each clip but rather stay on top of the clips on the left side, but I have faith in you that it can be done).

Jim, your assumption is correct.  As you all sould know, being in a hurry iS part of the editing business. Since Premiere is probably one of the only editors that does NOT include Clip lengths (next to or just below the clip name) I am absolutely dumbfounded on how anyone could zip around the timeline with many layers and have to stop everytime to wait for the mouse-over-clip way to see such a simple, essential property of what you are working on. Your 'not understanding' the reasoning for my request here is either missplaced, or you don't live in the 'real world' of editing with clients and producers breathing behind your neck asking for many things at the same time, including partial and total clip lengths.  It's such a "No Brainer" why editors, would need this information simply by looking at the screen, as this REALLY isn't an over-the-top request, and need not affect your editing experience, as this is an 'OPTION' in most all other editors.  Please forgive my intense response. I do not mean any disrespect to you.  Rich

  • Bought Premiere Pro CC, still having problems!

I was using the trial version of Premiere Pro CC on my Windows 8 highly configured PC for a client's wedding video project!
The trial ended yesterday and I bought the monthly subscription.
Now when I open the project, all the .MTS files are showing as RED and question mark in Import pane!
Not the video, not even the audio for it is working!
    See this screenshot,
    http://d.pr/i/TyeP
I took one file as an example
I imported the same file again and the file showed up good. The vidoe played, but the audio is missing. WHY ?
    See this screenshot,
    http://d.pr/i/cZ3u
I even compared both the files path and they both are exactly the same.
    See this screenshot,
    http://d.pr/i/k8Sk
Then howcome it shows as question mark ?
Why is the audio not playing ?
This never happened with me in CS6 , and we did over 50 projects from MTS files.
Let me know, how to fix this!

I can't see the images.  Please try this:

  • I've sent my student ID but Premiere Elements 8 still isnt working

    Hey,
Im in Australia and i bought Premiere Elements 8 (the education version). I read through the instructions of how to register which didnt help, then found out that i had to send a copy of my Student ID to use it. So i did that but i dont know if i did it wrong or if my student ID doesnt register with Adobe? I've registered it and sent the ID but no reply after a couple of weeks.

I've bought several Adobe products at Educational Pricing.
You can purchase them through a 3rd party (such as academicsuperstore.com) or directly from Adobe. Whoever you purchase from is responsible for confirming your eligibility.
In any event, I'm fairly sure there is not a separate "educational version" of the software. Once your educational eligibility is confirmed, you are sent the same commercial product as everybody else. IOW, there's no "educational version" of their software, only "educational pricing".
I've never heard of buying the educational product, then having to send your ID in. It should work the other way around. Neither Adobe nor an authorized  reseller will send you the software without first verifying your eligibility.
Unless things work differently Down Under....?
