Premiere 8 Codec Problem

In premiere 8 I attempted to save a project for use on a pc as an avi file using the Share facility. This would appear to have been successful but when I tried to import the avi file into a new project I was told that the file was incompatible and that I did not have the appropriate Codec. I would gratly appreciate some guidance.

What were the exact settings that you chose?
AVI is but a wrapper, and many different CODEC's can reside in that wrapper. This ARTICLE will give you some background.
Good luck,

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro Mic/Codec problem

Okay, I'm running a ZS Plat Pro and I'm having some problems with my mic settings for some reason. Here's the deal:
My headphones are plugged into my external hub with the mic into the Line In slot. I have sound, theres power, that's all good. The problem lies with my microphone settings somewhere, I dunno where, with a possible codec problem I'm guessing. Here's why.
I can't get ANYTHINGto pick up in my mic. All the settings are correct in Control Panal and in my Creative Volume Control. Line In is selected for Recording, the volume is up, it's not muted, my headset is not muted, and the gain is turned on on my external hub, yet still nothing. Here is where hopefully someone can help. I can get it to work in Ventrilo when I go into setup. In setup to test with, I have to select a Codec from a list to use to test with. Meaning, there is NO current selected codec to test with. Once I select one, it works.
What I'm guessing is somehow, my computer doesn't have a current codec selected for my mic to work with. IE: MSN, Yahoo, Windows Sound Recorder, control panal/sound and audio/test hardware... they all come up detecting no sound at all, when in FACT, I know it works in Ventrilo when I select a codec.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the card with up to date drivers. Can anyone help at all please? Thank you.

  • I just ran an Apple software update and lost video in my Final Cut 7 running on OS 10.6.8.  It is indicating a codec problem.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I just ran a software update and lost video in my FCP 7 timeline (OS 10.6.8).  I get an error message that there is a codec problem and get either a green or black screen.  Anybody have idea how to fix this?

what happens if you create a new apple prores 422 sequence and drop bars and tone into it.
Does it display correctly?  If so, I'd assume the the prores codecs are ok.
Not sure I"ve worked with hdv2 material.  You may need to reinstall your os and fcp and not do the latest software update.  People have definitely reported problems with hdv material after the update.   Maybe someone will speak up with an alternative solution.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 codec problem

Hey all.  Here's the problem.  At work I use Premiere CS3 on an old Edius box that has Canopus codecs.  When I archive a final copy, I use a DVCPRO HD codec, specifically the Canopus SD50/DVHD codec, to an AVI file.
At home I have a new copy of CS5 on a new machine.  I brought home some of these AVI files from work that used the Canopus SD50/DVHD codec.  I could not open them up at home on anything.  I went and found the codec and installed it.  Now I can open the files with Media Player no problem, but I cannot import them into Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, or After Effects.  The result is audio and not video.
Any suggestions that don't include re-exporting everything using a different codec?
    Thanks!

Any suggestions that don't include re-exporting everything using a different codec?
Unless there is a 64-bit version of the codec, you're limited to doing just that. You might be able to drop $160 on DVCPRO HD: MainConcept. No guarantees that'll even work though.
I'd just convert them to Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or Ut Video Codec Suite; they're lossless, free, and will both work in Premiere Pro CS5.

  • Codec Problem Premiere Pro CS5

    Hallo,

  • Codec Problem Import Videodateien avi Premiere CS6

    Guten Tag,
P.S. Ich bin absoluter Neuling in Sachen Premiere.

    Hallo,

  • Codec Problems/ avi. files

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to fix this problem for a while now, but with no suitable solution.
    Here is the thing:
I've been using Premiere CS 6 (Version 6.0.3) on my Windows 7, 64bit PC, quite a while now and it normally works like a charm,
but when I try to import certain .avi files, which I recorded with a camcorder, it keeps telling me, that the format is not supported.
I already tried it with severeal clips, but no luck there.
The thing is, if I try it on a friends Macbook it works fine and imports without and error message (she also uses Premiere CS 6).
So, I figured there must be something wrong with the codecs.
I tried to install different things to make it work, for example the whole divx codecs and the avid codecs, but nothing seems to work.
I ran one of the videos through GSpot, which tells me, that all the needed codecs are installed, but I really can't get the videos to work in Premiere.
Is there anyone who might help me with this issue or has the same problem?
I would be very, very thankful if anybody could help me solve this.

You sure about that?  I'm not aware of any cameras that record H.264 to an AVI file.  It's about 90% MP4 and maybe 10% QuickTime.
That suggests you're not playing with camera original media here, but something that's been converted.  If so, you may want to get your hands on the originals.
It is the original data from the camera, thats what I find confusing about the whole situation.
I am really thankful for your help, but somehow I can't understand why a professional tool like Premiere can't handle H.264 in an .avi wrapper.
There must be another way for a windows pc to get it to work, even if the converting is an option.
As I said before, I tested it on a mac with Premiere CS 6 and it imports like a charm.

  • Premiere Codecs

    Hello
I'm having a problem with my Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on my MacBook Pro 2.66Ghz. When I want to import a screen-captured movie fragment, I'm getting the next error: 'File Import failure: Codec missing or unavailable'.
The fragment I want to import has an AVI format. It has been captured on a Windows XP with the program SnagIt. I've tried several things like using all the possible codecs, uncompressing the movie with VirtualDub, capturing with just uncompressed frames but the problem is still there. I've already found out that it's not the AVI format that's causing it?
    I hope you can help.
    - Nick

Guys, thanks for the awesome replies. One thing I am wondering, though: I've found here that AVI is possible to be imported in Premiere?
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WSCE104033-D011-4699-84E 2-72DE29332157.html
Also I've tried with Camtasia and downloaded the codec. I can only find 'TechSmith Screen Capture Codec', though and I'm not able to export it as an MOV. I'm not sure if I'm doing everything right.

  • File Format / Codec Problem

I have Premiere Elements 9 installed and when I try to get media from AVI files for video taken with my sealife 1400DC, I get an error message that complains about the file being the wrong format or codec not being installed, is there a fix for this error?  the file will play on windows media player..

From what I have read of your camera's specifications, the video is recorded with MotionJPEG video compression which can be a problem for Premiere Elements (any version). File extension is .avi.
It is a toss up whether the codec is not installed or whether Premiere Elements is not recognizing it.
    The classical remedies are
    1. Look for a utility that came with your camera, and install it to supply the needed codec
    2. Convert the video to another format
    3. Download and install a MotionJPEG codec from Online (not free)...for informational purposes only, the Morgan MotionJPEG video codec has been
used successful by those who explored this possibility. Definitely go the codec tryout route which Morgan does offer
    http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/morgan/php/products.php?sProductId=4&sProductSub=download s
And, if it works for you, then decide if it is worth the investment as a purchase.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

  • Codec problem

When going to play a movie, it says, "the selected file cannot be played becsue your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed"  I ahve quicktime installed.  the files are "..._ts.vob" files.  Help!

    azslf
Lots to go over. I will give you the bottom lines and then go into details..I suspect
    a. You are not using the correct files from the DVD disc
    b. Your project is not set up correctly with regard to project settings
Your reply with more details will help sort this out.
My Details Customized To The Situation That You Describe....
    Part 1. Introduction
Your focus should be on the VIDEO_TS Folder on the DVD disc. And, specifically only the VIDEO_TS Folder's files named VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB, VTS_03_1.VOB, etc. Nothing else.
There are several ways to transfer these specific files into a Premiere Elements 12 Windows project.
Typical transfer issues could be related to video and audio quality, but more often to out of sync audio.
    1. As you did, you could copy/paste them to the computer hard drive and import them into 12 Expert workspace with the program's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets and from there drag them to the Timeline.
    2. The preferred way is to insert the DVD disc into the DVD burner tray, open Premiere Elements 12 (with the correct project preset set beforehand), and use Add Media/"DVD Camera or Computer Drive"/Video Importer.
    3. If problems with out of sync audio, then the use of the computer Command Prompt to get these files into one file containing the seamless merged files) has been the answer for many in this situation. When you do that, instead of importing individual VOBs into a project with Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets instead you bring in one file DVD.VOB. See
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/09/pe-dvd-videoseamless-vob-ripping.html
Typically "2" works well and you do not have to bother with "1" or "3".
    Part 2. Suggested Workflow
Another important matter is setting up the project so that the project settings match the properties of your source files. Premiere Elements 12 is setup to take control over doing that job. Sometimes it does it OK, and sometimes not OK. When not OK, then you set the project preset (the project settings) manually.
To do that, open Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, File Menu/New/Project and change the project preset to NTSC DV Standard. Before you close out of the final dialog there, make sure you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Settings on This Project".
Here I have assumed that your DVD represent NTSC DV Standard 4:3 and not NTSC DV Widescreen and that you are in a NTSC rather than a PAL setup.
Make sure you have your first DVD in the DVD burner tray, in the Expert workspace, Add Media/"DVD Camera or Computer Drive"/Video Importer. Select only the files with names VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_01.VOB, VTS_03_1.VOB as it applies to you. Use the file size as an indicator of what you have plus your previewing opportunities in the Video Importer.
For this first try, leave the Video Importer's Save In: with the default Videos location. And there have a check mark next to "Add to Timeline". There are additional important details on how to deal with the additional DVD discs that you may have. I will go over that detail which will involved the Save In so that do not run into Already Imported Errors.
We can go over each phase of the process at whatever pace you want to go at. But, I need your specific details to do that.
We will be watching for your results. Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarification on anything written.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere CS4 problems with Snow Leopard 10.6.7

I know that this is draging the depths of history but we have eight MackBook Pros with Snow Leopard (no roll back possible) and various CS4 progeams on in the college at which I teach.  We have a problem with Premiere in that clips will not play either in the preview, timeline or program areas rendering the whole program useless.  I don't think this is a problem that unknown; has anyone found a solution othere than installing 5.5 of course?

That is not good... PPro requires FULL access to the system to work properly... it just is not designed to be run on a limited use account
Also (Mac may be different???) to use some of the functions in Encore in the Win7 world, you not only have to be running the program from an Administrator account, you actually have to right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator from the list of options
Welcome to the wonderful world of computer security settings that get in the way of doing work
To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option
