Premiere 9: Create DVD menu with several movies

I want to put several movies which I created on one DVD.  How do I do this?  I found a way to put ONE movie in the menu with its scene selection (although I can't get that to work, which is a separate issue), but I haven't found a way of pullling in the FOUR movies.

You can look at the Duration of each Project's Timeline and jot down the total runtime for each. Add those together to get the full runtime/Duration of the multiple Projects. If you have already Exported/Shared to a DV-AVI, you can get that Duration for each with G-Spot, or another similar utility. If you have already Imported those DV-AVI's into the new, combined Project, just look at the Duration on the Timeline Ruler.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - When working with TimeCode (00;00;00;00 - Hours; Minutes; Seconds; Frames), I really like the free WFT Timecode Calculator. It also allows one to choose the FPS of the base.
PPS - One can also play the resultant DV-AVI's in WMP, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, or other players, and see what the Duration of each is.

    Sorry for my poor english

OK, for limiting User Operations, one can Permit All, None, Custom. This explains this process. Note: the Operations vary by whether you apply these to a Timeline, or to a Menu:
To disable or edit user operations
Select a timeline or menu, or click the Disc tab.
Note: Disabling user operations at the Disc level disables that operation in DVD elements too. You can, however, enable a function at the disc level and then turn it off for specific menus, timelines. and other elements.
Click the Set button at the bottom of the Properties panel.
Select the desired options and then click OK.
All Enables viewers to execute any operation.
    None Disables all viewer operations.
Custom Lets you specify which operations are enabled. Deselect the user operations you want to disable:
Play Timeline Lets the viewer enter a number of a timeline to play.
Change Presentation Mode Lets the viewer set the playback mode to 4:3 or 16:9.
Play Chapter Lets the viewer play a specific chapter.
Note: Disabling Play Chapter also disables the Search For Chapter operation.
Search For Chapter Lets the viewer search for a specific chapter.
Play Timecode Lets the viewer enter a timecode to play or search for.
Stop Lets the viewer stop the DVD.
Pause Lets the viewer pause the DVD.
Previous/Next Chapter Lets the viewer move among chapters.
Title Remote Lets the viewer use the Title button on the remote control.
Menu Remote Lets the viewer use the Menu button on the remote control.
Change Audio Tracks Lets the viewer change audio tracks while content is playing.
Change Subtitle Tracks Lets the viewer change the subtitle track when content is playing.
Resume Lets the viewer resume play from where content was stopped.
Arrow And Enter Keys Lets the viewer use the arrow and enter keys on the remote control.
Personally, I would not want to lock the user out of too many controls, as they might become highly frustrated and think that the DVD has malfunctioned.
    Hope that this helps,

  • DVD Menu with Two or More Highlights per Button

I have created a DVD Main Menu in Photoshop CS4 Extended for Premiere Elements 4 as well as editing an existing Premiere Elements 4 DVD Main Menu in Photoshop Elements 6 and run into the same following highlighting problem:
The design of each menu button is such that there is in its Group:
    a. the (%) video for the thumbnail of the video (4:3 solid color block)
    b. frame to go around the thumbnail
    c. Text to go under the framed thumbnail
When I roll the cursor over the button, I want the frame as well as the text to be highlighted. I can achieve one or the other, but not both. I use (=1) for the Text highlight and (=2) for the frame frame, but, no matter what combination or arrangement of layers/layer sets/codes, the result is the same, one or the other (using =1), but not both (using =1 and =2).
Although an Encore DVD Menu creation tutorial suggests that the code species (=2) exists, I have yet to find an existing Premiere Elements 4 DVD Menu where both the frame and the text underneath the frame is highlighted at the same time when the cursor is rolled over the button (showing the =1 and =2 codes or anything else)
I would appreciate any comments on whether I am looking for something that is not possible OR whether I have just not figured out the how to answer.

    Hunt,
When you create your DVD menus with Photoshop and Encore as described, can these menus be loaded into Premiere Elements 4 or any other version of Premiere Elements and do these menus work in Premiere Elements 4 or any other version of Premiere Elements?
If I cannot go the (=2) highlight route, I have thought about creating a text layer (for the title under the thumbnail), simplifying (rasterizing it), then adding a the frame to that layer, and then coding the layer (=1) highlight. But, I have not done that yet.
    SG
Did you really mean ...., named (%) Highlight....in your suggestions or did you mean (=1). I have been through all the how tos and have a good handle on the conventions, except for this one point.
Thank you both. In the final analysis, at this point it is more a "why can't I" instead of "I have to have that dual highlight" to make the effect work. Thank you both for your inputs and am heading back to the programs to explore your helpful suggestions.

  • Create DVD menu in Photoshop - font show pixels

I googled and search this forum and feel not help me at all.
I created DVD menu in photoshop (CS4) for DVD Studio Pro 4. I selected Film & Video NTSC DV widescreen(SD). Export file as .tif. Create DVD. Font look pixel on HDTV. Is there a way to improve menu looks for HDTV even DVD final output is SD 16:9? Is there guideline?

When you go into Photoshop, make sure that you select a high def alternative to create your menu, not SD.
Create a new file, select Film and Video and look in the list for HDV 1080p or HDTV 1080p as a start point. If you use anything else, you won't get the resolution that you need for HD.

  • Can you create a custom dvd menu with Premiere Elements 12?

I am giving this software a trial before deciding whether to buy. Is it possible to create your own custom DVD menu? I understand that you can "download" a template and customize it to some extent. But the customizing does not seem to allow you to delete or add elements, like graphics or menu buttons. I want to be able to delete graphics/menu buttons I don't want, as well as add or subtract buttons as I need for each project. Or, I would like to create a menu from scratch.
Is either method possible in Premiere Elements? Thank you for any assistance.

    Thanks for the reply.
You can go with a one main menu set up and use main menu buttons. But, note that there are typically far less buttons on the main menu than on the scene menu. One maneuver is to switch the main menu with the scene menu to gain a buttons per page advantage. That is done by reversing the file names of the main menu .psd and scene menu .psd.
At the editing of the .psd level, there is also the choice to add more buttons per page to a scene menu and create text or thumbnail scene buttons.
One of the principles to keep in mind...no one movie in a multi movie Timeline can have its own Scene Menu page.
Of concern....you should have more flexibility than
In any case, I have discovered that I can edit the templates and then bring them into my project. So long as I save them as the same name, Adobe Premiere Elements doesn't realize that anything has changed.
Are you following any one of my blog posts. If so, please let me know which one so I can focus in where you may be overlooking some detail. It is best to work with copies of the original and place them in appropriate folders in the directory structure. In doing that I give the user created menu a new name to distinguish it from the original.
And, in versions 11 and 12,  I do not like to save user modified menus in the Online Folder. I prefer the location where the disc menu installed with the program is located. See blog posts.
If your customization does not require the opening of Layer Sets in the Layers Palette of the .psd file (happens under certain plans), Photoshop Elements can do the .psd edit job for you, and you do not have to go to Photoshop CS or higher. There are Photoshop actions that might be used in Photoshop Elements to open Photoshop Layer Sets (as found in the disc menu .psd files), but I will not get into that right now.
Please review and consider. And, then we can go into more details.
    Thanks.

  • Creating two-level dvd menu with Elements 9

    Hi,
I am trying to burn a DVD (and later on Blu-Ray) using PRE 9. I can burn using a provided menu-template.
However, I would like to create a two (or multi) level menu for the disk. I would like to make the menu
    look like this:
    Play all
    Year 1
    Scene 1A
    Scene 1B
    Main Menu
    Year 2
    Scene 2A
    Scene 2B
    Main Menu
    Year 3
I would like to burn DVD and Blu-ray disks with such menus.
How can I create such menus using Premier Element 9?
    Thanks!

I am not clear on what you mean by a "two level DVD menu".
Premiere Elements disc menus come as a set of main menu and scene menus. But, it is possible to have the menu situation present with one main menu.
Apparently you want to have a Timeline of multiple movies, have the viewer select the one to watch first, and then, at the end of the movie selected, have the viewer taken back to the main menu. That all can be accomplished for DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc with the placement of stop marker at the end of each Timeline movie (except the last one). Each movie could have a scene marker at its beginning which will trace to a scene button in the scene selection page. But, there is a sacrifice in doing this. This scenario does not permit for a functional "Play All".
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2013/09/pe-dvd-menu-navigationplay-all-loss.html
In addition, the above is not applicable to AVCHD format on DVD disc or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc (with stop markers) because the players for those discs do not support stop markers.
Please review the above and then we can discuss the matter further.
    Thank you.

  • Creating a simple DVD menu with text as buttons...

Hi, I am rather new to DVDSP but fairly accomplished at the software designers earlier product, DVD Virtuoso (still use it). Can anyone tell me where there is a tutorial to create a simple text DVD menu? I would like to place a colored rectangle (opacity) behind the text to help it stand off the background and have access to some fairly basic text tools like Bevel & Emboss, Stroke and Drop Shadow. Thank you.

Has some discussion and examples I posted elsewhere which should help get you going. Best to do graphics in Photoshop, then make sure all text/layers rasterized, then make them flattened picts. One will be background layer, the other grayscale overlays to map colors (these examples should start you off I think)
PS I know Hal has a great example with better step by steps, and if I get a chance later I can also fill in details on what I did

Not like outlook. Here's some more details on what I'm looking for.
    Create a menu bar.
    Create a menu called "Actions"
Create two items under it called "Option1" and "Option2".
When I move the mouse over "Option1", I want a page to be shown on the right (just like how a sub menu will be displayed usually).

  • Creating DVD menu in Photoshop?

    Hi all,
I'm wondering if it's possible to create a menu using Photoshop and import it into DVD Studio Pro with all the layers intact along with all the buttons? I am used to using Adobe Encore which has this feature. All you need to do in Photoshop is name each layer a certain way and as soon as you import your .psd file into Encore it automatically converts each specified layer to a button, image, link, etc. Does DVD Studio Pro have this feature as well?
    Thanks all!

Does not sound like it is the same (you cannot automatically create links etc.)

  • Please, how make a DVD menu with chapters? FCPX

I already instaled FCPX but I can't find where I can make a profesional DVD menu as in DVD studio before. There is only "share" and this is for amaters not for me. I need make profesional DVD with chapters, caregories etc.
Please is there anybody who know how or where make it ?
    Thanks very much to all.

Export a movie from FCP X.  Import the resulting movie into FCP 7 or older version of FCP.  Add chapter markers as needed, then export to Compressor and on to DVD Studio Pro for authoring and burning.  Hopefully you didn't delete the old pro apps before installing FCP X.
If you're waiting for Apple to add a full featured DVD app, don't hold your breath.  Apple has declared that the DVD-Video format is dead and apparently they think no one should be using it.

  • Creating DVDs for with up to 150 small individual videos

    Hi,
I have about 2,500 videos ranging from 5-120s. I want to create DVDs that have the individual videos on it so I can flip through them easily as opposed to have a joint video file that combines all the videos on the DVD. With a single file on the DVD, I would have to fastforward and could not flip through. Now, I tried a few apps. One has a limit of 99 files which would leave one third of DVD space unused. Another allows adding videos that are bigger than 7s only which would leave out some of my videos. Another one froze in the attempt to create an DVD. IDVD supports only 6 menu items in which case I would have to join my snippets together (and I do not want to do that because I do not want to fastforeward - which would make it harder to find a specific video). So, I am really trying to do a very simple thing and I haven't found an app that can do that. Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

What you'll need to do is include an index sheet with each DVD showing what clips are in what menus of the DVD.  There just no way to have a search done in the iDVD project itself.
Some themes line the Parchment will allow up to 12 submenus/items per menu. I don't know is all themes will allow that many items in a menu.  You'll just have to test the theme you want to use. I find the simple, non-animated menus are best for large projects like this.
Those submenus can hold 12 items also but one of them will be the back button to the main menu leaving 11 videos per submenu.
Therefore you can get 12 x 11 = 132 clips per DVD.  However, the playing time for all of those clips including menus w or w/o audio must be less than 120 minutes (best to keep it to about 115).
Bottomline you'll need a list of submenus and the clips they contain to go with each DVD.

  • Create dvd menu chapters

    Hello,
I would like to create a DVD from a file exported with Final Cut Pro X that has information of chapters.
I want to have a Main Menu and then a link to a second menu with links to the chapters.
Is there any program you would recommend?

FCX now does chapter markers, but still for only the most basic menus. If you want sub menus, you'll have to use an authoring app – like DVD Studio Pro, iDVD (both of which are EOL) or Encore. (You may be able to get a boxed version of iLife, with iDVD, on Amazon or Ebay.) I assume Toast can do what you want, but I don't use it so I can speak from first hand experience.
    Good luck.
