Premiere CC 2014 GUI renders very slowly

Hi there
I'm using Premiere CC 2014. It worked very well and I did a lot of stuff with it. But since today the GUI renders very very slowly (look at my video). I didn't change any system settings, I didn't installed a program and there was no update.
Thanks for your help,
Samuel

  • Premiere CC 2014 randomly renders preview slowly

It seems to be just one clip it randomly dislikes.
The rest of the timeline renders just fine, and all of the footage is the same format.
The whole timeline is about an hour and a half long. The sequence was built from another clip that is the majority of the timeline, but the clip settings should match each other. This clip is about 5 minutes. The timeline preview renders in about 15 minutes without the offensive clip. When I add it in, it jumps to a 24 hour estimate.
If I put it on its own timeline (even if I just duplicate the one I'm trying to render and delete everything but it, so I KNOW it has the same settings).... it renders just as quickly as everything else. If I try to paste everything onto that timeline with it.... it goes back to being a 24 hour render.
I know workarounds, but I'd like it to just... work. Or to know if I'm doing something wrong. I am trying the SpeedGrade Lumetri, but I pasted the same effect onto several clips. Maybe I'm doing something misguided with that?
    What am I missing?

    Hi w00lf!
A common issue is that many people do not know to use caution when marking an Out with the Premiere Pro playhead. The physical makeup of the playhead includes both the head and tail of a single frame. Placing the playhead on a desired out point and then marking Out will have the effect of marking Out one frame too late. To get the proper duration you are expecting, always move left one frame - then mark Out.
If you zoom in to the playhead, you can see what I mean. In the screenshot, you can see the front edge of the playhead is on the cut. Marking In here is no problem. If you mark Out with the playhead (as shown), you are marking Out at the back end of the playhead, one frame too late and one frame in to the adjacent clip. When marking durations, you have to be very mindful of this behavior.
Many editors make this mistake for quite some time before realizing the issue at hand. When I taught editing in various trade schools here in CA, I made sure all my students knew about this quirk.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Premiere elements 12 lagging/running very slowly, impossible to edit videos

Hello, recently I've been experiencing very slow performance from premiere elements, this includes playback, rendering, opening the application and it constantly crashes. It was not that bad of a problem up until about a week ago when I started experiencing severe lagging while editing a video. I thought rendering the video would solve the problem because this has happened before and rendering has solved the problem, unfortunately this time and for the past few days, it hasn't helped at all.
Just some more info:  I use a 64 bit Gateway windows 7 laptop ( I apologize if I don't sound like I know what I'm talking about, I'm a video editor in high school, not a computer programmer)
Any help would be great, I edit videos for my school district's student news and my school's varsity sports teams so I need this problem fixed urgently.
    Thank You!

    You are communicating just fine.
Let us see if we can get to the core of the Premiere Elements 12 performance issues that you mentioned.
    1. Please remind me if you have installed the 12.1 Update for 12. If you have not installed it yet, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update.
    2. You say that rendering helped previously. It could be that you have a pile up of preview files in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder in the Adobe Folder.
So let us explore that idea. Please go to that folder and see how much you have in it. (The default is Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0
Every time you do the Timeline rendering of a clip, the project automatically generates a preview file which is stored on the hard drive at the location that you designate in preferences.
Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and the VIdeo Previews choice. For SD project, the file is DV.AVI and for the HD project, the file is MPEG2.mpg (this is the case if the file rendered is a video or a still). Also check out the contents of the Media Cache Files Folder for pile ups of conformed audio files.
The exact location of preview files and conformed audio files (Media Cache) can be found under Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks.
Also, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and its Media Cache Database area and hit the Clean button to get rid of pile ups of conformed video files.
    3. In the quest for computer clean up, you can consider a run through with the free ccleaner product.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Please let us know what you found and if a clean up improved the performance of computer and Premiere Elements? Based on your reply, we can
    decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Pro 2014.1 rendering slower?

Is anyone else finding rendering slower with 2014.1?  My hardware configuration (PC) used to render my sequences in about real time but now they're taking about 2X real time.  I've got the same NVIDIA GPU I had before, have updated the drivers and PP says it will use it but I see no activity on it now.  It's hard to compare because I can't go back to 2014.  I get the same time whether I queue the render to AME or do it totally within PP.  I'm tempted to go back to CC (pre-2014) and make some comparisons but haven't done it yet.

I gather that by "render" you mean exporting to encode an output file, yes? With Premiere, we generally reserve the term "render" specifically in reference to rendering preview files for smoother playback within Premiere; for creating an output file, we use the terms export and encode. I'm not saying "render" is incorrect--I know that's the common parlance with other NLEs. Just calling it out to help avoid confusion hereabouts.
    As to the actual issue:
what format & preset (or custom settings) are you using?
Are you sure that all the export settings are the same as before? Any chance that before you were encoding VFR, One Pass but now it's Two Pass, for instance?
When you say "PP says it will use [the GPU]," do you mean that in the Project Settings panel, Renderer is set to GPU?
Exactly what graphics card do you have, and what driver version?
Is this a project created in a prior version and converted to 8.1? If so, can you toss together a simple sequence in a fresh 8.1 project and see if encode times are longer than expected?
If it's a new 8.1 project, are all the particulars of the sequence roughly the same: resolution of the source; sequence settings, including the Preview File Format/Codec; effects in use, ...?
As to the fact that the GPU shows no activity, that may be expected. In case you're not aware, the GPU is not used for all encoding. See this thread for more info: Mercury, CUDA, and what it all means. Of course, if we're dealing with a pretty clean apples:apples comparison and you checked GPU usage while encoding in prior versions, then you know for sure whether 2014.1 brought a change.

  • Large Premiere Pro CS6 Project running very slowly

Hi there folks. I'm about to ask a question to which I'm fairly certain the answer is "You need to upgrade your RAM and Video Card." But I thought I'd toss the question out to Adobeland just for the slightest, minesculest chance there might be a software fix.
Basically, I have a huge project for this promo. About 4TB worth of footage all in all. Almost all of it is PRORES 4444 from an Alexa (which runs like a charm) but there's also a great deal of full hd XDCAM transcodes of several of a networks full feature films (They're about 80GB each).
These films are killing my project. I can't even watch them for more than a few seconds without Premiere just stalling out, that's fine, I can cope with that. But apparently just having them in the project is enough to slow the whole thing down even when I'm only using a few clips on my 60" timeline. It takes 45 minutes for the project to fully load up, and I'm constantly clearing the cache.
    I'm running a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) 2 x 2.4Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon, 12 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB using OSX Lion 10.7.5....
If there's any little software tweaks or fixes that can speed up Premiere.
PS - I've tried using project manager to create a new trimmed project with handles, but for some reason this never works for me. It just makes copies of the entire original clips without trimming them. I've also tried transcoding the Larger files to smaller versions, but this process is taking way too long and keeps crashing
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Much Love
    Martin

In After Effects you 'purge' the cache to free up RAM, in order to preview other compositions. In Premiere, it is a bit different, because this program works with different cache files and different ways of storing them. There are files used for previews/renders, created by the user - and files for caching information about media used in the project (metadata, waveforms etc.), created by Premiere. The only ones you can delete are the render files, found in Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files (if you don't need them at one point; they can be easily recreated by rendering again). All the others (the ones you say that you delete through 'Preferences') need to be kept, because Premiere works with them. I assume this is the reason it takes that long when opening the project, because Premiere needs to re-cache everytime. Don't delete them and see how it goes.
Just as a reference point for you: I have a powerful computer (dual Xeon, dual nVidia, 64GB RAM), and I still have to decrease the playback quality sometimes to 1/2. The lowest I can go is 1/4, and I assume your Premiere allows decreasing at least to 1/8, with the rest of values grayed/unselectable.
I think you need a better graphic card first, one that is accepted by Premiere, for its CUDA capabilities. Check their website, I think your Radeon is not allowing the use of Mercury Playback.
    Best,
    Mark

  • Rendering very slowly

    Hello,
this is my first Contact here in this Forum, so greets to all.
I have some trouble with my render-speed.
I have a Mac i5 and my project is on my external Raid 0 Harddisc, connect via thunderbolt. Normaly very fast.
Now i want to render my project, but AE takes only one processor and is very slow ( for my project here 5 hours and more).
I copy all the data to my internal hard disc an now AE takes all 4 cores and would be finish in proximately 20minutes.
The transfer-rate from my thunderbolt hard disc ist more speedy as my internal hard disc.
can somebody explain me, where is the secret switch in AE :-)
    Best regards
    Arne

There's no information in your post to give us any indication why your machine is rendering at a speed you call slow.  Sure, it could be, but we have no clue what you're doing.  For example, there are many effects in AE that are restrained to using just one processor.  When that happens, ALL the effects use just one processor.  Another one: if you have a 20-minute animation, a five-hour render time could be very reasonable, and downright speedy in many instances.
It sounds like you're a brand-new AE user, and you're jumping into the deep end of the pool.  It that's true, you really owe it to yourself to spend a good deal of quality time here:

  • Premiere Pro 2014 MultiCam forgets cut points when rendering (Adobe please help!!)

I have started using multi-cam and notice that almost always when using multi-cam the rendered results are incorrect - with many camera selections forgotten or flipped to exact opposite!
Very frustrating - especially since you discover after render!!
Many times when I select Camera A at some point and then later go to beginning of sequence - many of the selections have been reversed with reversal again at clip transitions - resulting in exact opposite of what I selected or random changes. Locking the tracks does not prevent this. It seems to be overriding my choices based on some program logic!!
This is with latest Premiere Pro 2014.1 {8.1 build)
Useless feature if you cannot get it to render your selections but rather random selection
Wish there was a manual! And not just incomplete video tutorials that are teaser for some associate's paid training (of unknown value).
Or at least quick forum / support response from Adobe representatives so I can be productive with the tooling.
Another week of no answers and I will have to recreate in FCP X where multi cam seems to work fine.
Not the best for brand loyalty, eh?
    Please help

I'm thinking it might be operator error on this one.  Here's a process that works every time.
    1. Create a sequence matching the specs of your footage.
    2. Add your clips.
    3. Sync manually.
    4. Create a second sequence matching the first.
    5. Nest the first sequence into the second.
    6. Right click on that nested sequence and choose Multi-Camera>Enable
    7. Turn on the Multi-camera view in the Program Monitor.
    8. Play the sequence in real time, switch angles using keyboard shortcuts.  If you make a mistake, leave it for later.
    9. When you're done with the first pass in real time, go back to the normal view in the Program Monitor.
    10. Move through the sequence a second time, cut by cut, tweaking as necessary with the Rolling Edit tool (shortcut N).
On a side note, 2014.2 is actually the current version.  You should update.

  • Does Premiere CC 2014 use OpenCL acceleration in H.264 encoding or just for rendering?

It doesn't seem to matter what renderer I select, transcoding to H.264 isn't any faster with OpenCL. MainConcept has an H.264 codec that uses OpenCL hardware acceleration - does Premiere CC 2014 for Windows use that codec or not? Does any hardware acceleration apply to transcoding?

Transcoding is entirely CPU-bound.  It's not something that can easily be parallelized, so there's no win in trying to send it to the GPU.  The GPU can be used in exporting if you've added accelerated effects, or if you scale the video to a different resolution.  Things that can be parallized fairly easily.  Changing from one video format to another isn't one of those things, unfortunately.

  • InDesign CC (2014) running very slowly

InDesign CC (2014) is running too slowly to use - it just crawls, with many seconds between a click and the response.
It is up to date and was running fine until yesterday afternoon. I can think of no reason for the sudden degradation. I'm running Windows 7. I have renamed the preference files and I have uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign, to no effect. Any thoughts welcome.

I have renamed both Adobe folders and copied across the fresh folders from the second user account. I had to boot into Safe mode to do so, as processes were locking both folders.
However, despite that surgery, InDesign is still freezing after it starts. It appears to start normally and fires up quickly, but then immediately freezes. So if you have any other ideas, I'd be grateful to hear them.

  • Lightroom 5.6 on Win 7 Pro 64 bit SP1 tying up CPUs, running very slowly

    Hi,
I have Lightroom 5.6. Whenever I use the Spot removal, Graduated filter, Radial filter or Adjustment brush tools in the develop module, it ties up the 6 CPU cores (as viewed in Task Manager) so everything goes very slowly. For example, the effect of a stroke with the Adjustment brush only appears on screen after 5 seconds or more.  Sometimes it gets so bad that I have to kill the process and restart Lightroom.  It affects other programs running at the same time, as they can't get enough CPU.  It is basically unusable. An edit that should take five minutes can take an hour.
The problem happens when I either
In the Library module I select an image that I have previously used the tools mentioned above on
    or
In the Develop module when I use those tools.
It is not just an issue with Lr 5.6 - previous versions also did this on my system.
    My workflow is:
Browse the library module, adding images to a collection (Canon EOS 7D raw)
For each image in the collection I:
    Select the image
    Create a virtual copy
Stack the original and copy together
    Edit the copy
Export AdobeRGB 16 bit PSD to Photoshop for sharpening and conversion to CMYK
Place the image into my InDesign document
I occasionally use Perfect Photo Suite 8.x on my images from within Lightroom.
I have been a software developer for over 30 years, so I'm not doing anything stupid. Lightroom is just spinning the CPU cores to no effect, like it has a thread or threads in an infinite loop.
I typically have Lightroom, Photoshop (CC or CS6) and InDesign CS6 running at the same time.  All three together occupy just over half of the available RAM.
I have a prettty fast machine (see the specs below) and other software does not tie it up like this (except rendering video in Pr or Ae, which I expect).
I have tried googling for an answer, with no success.
I feel this is an issue that Adobe ought to provide technical assistance for, given the technical nature and severity of the problem.
    Please help.

I think I'll try re-installing the BB Desktop Software 7.1.0.41 ... the ' ... no  BB Device Software installed ... I'll update the thread and give you credit for pointing me in this direction ... if it works.
However, to be clear, I am connecting my 9630 using a USB interface cable connected to a USB 2.0 port on the Win 7 system ... I am not removing the 8GB MicroSDHC card from the phone and then utilizing a MicroSD to SD adapter or SD port ... whatsoever.
And , as for connecting via another computer, now that I have thought about this some more, that may have been what precipitated the problem in the first place ... I had experimentally tried re-connecting the 9630 to an XP Pro SP3 32-bit notebook loaded with BB D. M. 5.0.1.28 ... (after never having done so again since the Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit / BB D.
