Premiere CC can't import Apple Motion files after clean install
Got a new SSD so I decided to do a spankin new install of everything except Final Cut Pro legacy (which I thought I could finally do without). Only snag has been that Premiere CC can't import my Apple Motion projects (version 3) and I can't encode ProRes anymore. Rather than do a lengthy install of the whole Final Cut Studio I just decided to purchase Motion 5 and thought all the functionality would come back. Nope. Premiere's browser won't even display .motn files and if I try to "import" them they are greyed out.
So now I'm stumped. Do I need to install Motion first and then Premiere CC?
MacPro Mavericks
Premiere 7.2.2
Hi R & G,
I don't believe Motion 5 projects are supported. Motion 4, or earlier, as I understand it. You can install FCP to get the ProRes codecs back.
Thanks,
Kevin

Can't get iWork 09 functional after clean install. Could use migration assistant and restore from TM, but don't want to bring all apps...just iWork suite. Original purchased iWork via a trial download, then paid for license. Here is my error message when trying to open Pages:

You have not move enough parts of iWork over to the new computer. There are files in
Users > your name > Library > Application support > iWork. Get the iWork folder
MacHD > Library > Application Support > iWork '09. Get the folder
To get into the users Library you have to on Mountain Lion in the Finder click on Go in the menu while pressing down the Option key. -
I'm working on a project using HDV clips recorded at 720p. I send a clip from the FCP time line to Motion. After adding text, I save the file and quit Motion. Back in FCP, I try to import the motion file, but it's grayed out. Is the problem with my motion user PRESET preferences?
When you used "Send to Motion", did you check the "embed motion project file" checkbox? If so, you shouldn't have to import the Motion project.

How to restore 10.3 files after clean install of 10.4
I had Mac OS 10.3 and did a clean install to Tiger (10.4) earlier this year. I thought I backed up my Apple Mail, iPhoto and iTunes libraries but I did not do it properly. I lost my attachments, all my photos and tunes.
Is there anything that can be done to restore my Apple Mail, iPhoto and iTunes back to what it was when I had 10.3?
Thanks,
CindyYes, there is a way, but are you sure you want to do that?
You can export your mail in mbox format by selecting the messages in Mail 2.x, doing File > Save As, and choosing Raw Message Source from the Format popup menu. You'll have to import those files into Mail 1.x doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other / Standard mbox as the data format.
Alternatively, you can use an utility such as Emailchemy or emlx to mbox Converter to do the conversion.
Be sure to make a backup copy of the current ~/Library/Mail folder first and keep it until you've successfully completed the conversion, just in case. -
Can't long in to iWeb after clean install of Leopard and upgrade to Snow
I just recently did a clean install of Leopard and then upgraded to Snow Leopard. Everything is working ok except for iWeb. At first, I thought I had just forgotten my password but then I reset it. I logged on here with it and on iTunes. I can't edit my page at all. How do I get into iWeb now? The template I created through iWeb of course is not on my computer- it's just on my iWeb site. Can I call to get someone th help me or do I need to start all over. How do I do that because I have a subscription?
Thanks

...do I need to start all over.
Daniel ~ Welcome to the discussions. If you didn't backup iWeb's key Domain file before the clean install, you'll probably need to start over. I say "probably" because even though you didn't deliberately back up the Domain file, perhaps you were running Time Machine — in which case, there's still hope:
Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight
Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

Apple apps crashing after clean install
After having massive problems with fast user switching I did a complete clean install of my system a few months ago. Worked fine at first, but after a while I began to experience new problems.
Here's the pattern: after I power on and boot up and open a few applications, within the first 10 minutes one of the apps will hang up with the spinning beach ball. In Force Quit the app is "not responding", so I force quit. The app disappears from the list, but is still showing as running in the dock and the app's window is still visible. I return to Force Quit, the app is back on the list and still "not responding", force quit a second time and then the program closes. From there, the other programs won't respond, and when I try to restart everything closes and it gets down to the point of the menu bar disappearing but won't complete the restart. I have to press the power button, forcing the shutdown. I power back up, and everything works properly now. Once I eventually shut the computer down, though, this whole chain of events repeats itself every time I power back up.
The one common thread is that it's always an Apple app that crashes...I've had it happen with the Finder, TextEdit, iCal, Mail, Safari, Address Book, and Logic Pro. Sometimes there's a Rescued Items folder in the trash with a file from the crashed app, sometimes not.
I did the usual troubleshooting (repaired permissions, ran DiskWarrior), even tried installing the 10.4.8 update again from the combo updater, made no difference.
What's going on here? (and please don't suggest to just leave it powered on all the time...)
Thanks,
MikeThanks for the further suggestions.
I ran a hardware test, and everything comes out fine. The only change to my setup over the last year has been swapping out the one hard drive, which is mostly a storage archive and would not be causing these problems.
Looking at the crash log for Logic, here is a consistent problem that must be from the kernel panics that happen intermittently when quitting Logic Audio:

Apple Id issues after clean install
I did a clean install of Mavericks on a friends macbook that was crashing every 5 minutes or so after the upgrade. The mac runs great now, but for some reason she cannot sign into her apple id under systempreferences/users&groups. She can sign into icloud just fine and has reset her password, but still no luck. She is bringing it back to me tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the matter or if anyone has seen this happen.

Is it possible to restore individual apps and files after clean install of Lion?
My new iMac is one of the small group that is having HDD drive replaced due to issue with 1TB Seagate drives.
When I get it back I'd like to install a clean copy of Lion and not restore whole system from TimeMachine.
However I don't want to lose my iTune or Aperture Libraries. Is it possible to restore just these libraries form TimeMachine backup or is there a better way to go? Email is all IMAP so not an issue, F/Fox & Safari bookmarks and all contacts & iCal material are likewise MobileMe/cloud based so not an issue.
Just after safest and best solution.
ThanksThe short answer is: yes you can restore only these libraries from the last Time Machine backup. It's quite easy
1) Clean install Lion
2) Enter time machine from the menu bar while pressing "option" (Browse other Time Machine disks).
3) Restore the Libraries.
Individual apps are tricker - depending on how they were installed in the first place. Anything that used an installer, and may rely on library frameworks (e.g iwork or MS Office) is not going to work easily with this method. -
Proper reinstallation of catalog, settings and files after clean installing W7
Hi,
I'm clean installing windows 7 (I've had it with Vista) and would like to know what is the best procedure and the logistics involved for the transfer/restoration of my catalog.
I will have a large, clean secondary hard drive available (being formatted as we speak) to store anything needed before reformatting and installing W7 in my primary drive.
Here are the specifics:
I'm using PSE8
My photos (13,000 pics) are properly organized in folders inside the "Pictures" folder within my User using Vista's default folder structure and would like to preserve this same arrangement under W7 (basically restoring to the Pictures folder in W7.
I have only one Catalog and is only accesible only to me (as opposed to the "accesible to everyone" option).
I would also like to preserve my address book and preferences, but don't know where ae these files located.
My planned windows-related workflow is as follows (suggestions welcome):
1. Make a simple copy of C: dirve to the 2nd hard drive (about 400GB worth of stuff) just to have an accesible backup of all files.
2. Use the easy transfer wizard to transfer all windows user's settings and files (from all four users) to the 2nd drive.
and then use the wizard to restore everything after installing W7.
3. Do a backup of my PSE catalog using the backup feature of the Organizer. Recent second backup is safely stored off-site.
4. Do the same for my itunes library (research pending on the proper procedure).
5. Reformat hard drive and then clean-install W7.
6. Use easy tranfer wizard to restore files and settings.
7. Install all programs.
8. Restore PSE catalog using the restore feature in PSE.
9. manually copy back the address book and preferences to their proper folders... please tell me where these folders are going to be located
Questions:
What is the proper way to do the transfer my photos and Catalog file?
Should I use the PSE8 backup and restore?
If so, what will happen with the photos already restored by the Windows wizard? should I delete them and let the PSE restore procedure "legally" restore all my pictures and catalog file? This is my big question.
I will very much appreciate all your help and sujjestions with this procedurecan go for PSE back up and restore . It will work for your large catalogs and images

Can't open files after clean install
Hi, I just had to wipe my drive clean and do a full fresh install of OSX 10.2.8...
... and now many of my Appleworks files aren't opening up. When I click on them I get a "No Bluetooth Hardware Found" error message, and bluetooth opens up on my dock.
I'm using Appleworks 6.2.9 for OSX, and then went back and installed a Classic Appleworks 6.0.4.
The problem is mostly on older documents created prior to v.6, but it also seems to be happening with newer documents created using v. 6 in OSX too.
Using the file -> open --> and selecting the document doesn't always solver the problem , and having to go into the application to open the files is far from convenient anyway.
If anyone can be of help it would be greatly appreciated! In addition to deleting the AppleWorks preferences, use Disk Utility to repair permissions after any system update/upgrade/reinstall.
A couple of other things to try after that if it still doesn't work as it should.
See my user tip, AppleWorks 6 won't open my AW 5 files, to "tell" AppleWorks these files are AW files.
Highlight a known AppleWorks document in the Finder, highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose AppleWorks. If AppleWorks is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the AppleWorks application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with AppleWorks.

Can I import my iweb sites after re-installing ilife08
I'm sweating a bit here.
I've just installed leopard, and have refreshed my hard drive (ie deleted it all)
I back up all my sites that I created in iweb, then re-installed ilife 08.
I can't retrieve my sites that I created into iweb.
am I screwed?Hi there,
it depends on what you made a backup of...
Did you backup the Domain file?
User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If so you would just need to double click it...
If you didn't backup this file but did a backup of html pages then you will have to rebuild the site by copy and paste...

if you can't import XDCAM EX files using the Media Browser, which will only import what Premiere needs, then there is something wrong with your installation.

Can't import uncompressed AVI files in CS6 Premiere Pro
Hi!
I'm using Adobe CS6 Premiere Pro on Windows 7 Pro (64bit) but can't import uncompressed AVI files.
I get the error that the file has no valid fomat or is damaged, but I can watch the avi videos without a
problem with the media player.
I also have CS4 installed, with CS4 I can import this files.
What can I do to solve this?AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?
