Premiere CC hangs on large projects
Hey!
Adobe Premiere CC seems to hangs on my projects that have a lot of video footage in them. I do not have this problem in CS6, only in CC.
In the video below CSCooper2000 shows the exact issue I'm having.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHzdX9choik&feature=youtu.be
3.40 GHz, AMD Phenon II X4 965
32 Gb Ram
Nvidia GTX 570
500 GB Hybrid SSD (Programs)
500 Gb Hybrid SSD (Footage & Project files)
Thx!
Also, I'm working with H264 footage
I don't have any ideas, at least not about why it's happening.
Sorry.

Premiere Pro CS6 6.0.2 hangs on Close Project
I have a project that I was working on today that seems to have somehow become corrupted. Everytime I open it, and then attempt to Close Project, premiere will stop responding.
I've tried creating a new project, and when I import the sequence from the older project file, save, and and attempt to Close Project, premiere stops responding...
A couple of other projects seem fine. So somehow, this project must have become damaged or something.
How can I debug this issue so i can get the sequence back to keep working?
Thanks,
-kenI was able to find an auto-save version that only lost me some of the work I had done, so thanks for the suggestion.
As I began redoing the lost work, I reproduced the problem. So I spent the last hour narrowing down what is causing it, and have found that an audio track that I am imported will reproduce the issue every time.
I can even start a new project, and import that single audio track, and cause premiere to hang. It's clearly a bug, but I'm not sure how to figure out what's going on.
The track was an MP3, so I brought it into audition and exported it as an AIFF file. But importing that file causes the same issue.
What's the best way to get Adobe to look at this. It's a simple problem to reproduce, and since it causes the app to hang, it probably should be fixed. I also tried to just remove that audio item from the latest project file, but that doesn't help. Once I import the track, any attempts to save the project will result in a hang.
Thanks in advance,
-ken -
Hi,
I'm currently editing for a TV channel using the latest version of Premiere Pro CC and certain projects (it seems to be with ones with a lot of footage) crash when I open it. Basically, it doesn't even load all the footage up, one that crashed just now said it had around 140 files left to load, but the beach ball arrives and I sat there waiting for half an hour and nothing happen, apart from the beach ball spinning.
Now, we're on an high spec iMac 3.5Ghz i, 32GB ram, 512gb Flash Storage, 4GB Geforce Graphics card, so I don't think the issue can be the mac, unless the macs faulty, but seems to work fine, when I create new projects etc.
Also, their workflow uses USB 3.0 drives, could this be the bottle-neck making them crash? That being said I've edited lots off my USB 3.0 drive at home and my desktop is a lot weaker then this iMac.
Any ideas what the issue may be?
Thank you,
MattHi Matt,
Please mention the exact version of Premiere Pro. Assuming you are using 2014 version, please try some steps mentioned below.
1. Clean the media cache files by navigating to /Users/User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common
2. Check the version of the drivers of your NVidia card. So, go to Apple Menu>System Preferences and check if you have a CUDA Preference pane if it is not there then go to the below link and update the Card to latest drivers.
CUDA Drivers for MAC Archive | NVIDIA
3. Also, please mention if you have any third party plugins used in the project. If yes, then try to update those Plugins or copy and paste those plugins to some other location and Trash them from MediaCore of Premiere Pro. The location of third party plugins is mentioned below.
Startup Drive or MAC HD /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0
Hope it helps.

Premiere Pro CS6, large project file size - crashing etc
Working on a project in Premiere Pro CS6 - also incorporating after effects and using 2 external plugins (Beauty Box and Factory Pro FX). Project is over 500MB, lots of comps, titles etc. project seems to be corrupt on my machine. .The project crashes continually. I cannot save my work, I cannot export, I cannot create XML and media is linking incorrectly. When I pull the project in on my laptop (separate machine) which has CC 2014 running, the project is FINE. That said - I need to work off of the more powerful machine to do this job - so need to find a way to troubleshoot. Note - project opens on my partner's machine, she can save + export, etc - however the media in still linking incorrectly on her machine as well (note partner does not have the 2 plugins, beauty box and factory Pro FX) - that said, it still links to the wrong media.
We have worked out a work-arond where we pull all of the AE sequences out of Premiere and into separate AE project which has made the project workable again but we know something is WRONG and we need to fix for future ASAP.
please help!
thank youREALLY_ Mac has a history of being more stable than PC with Premier ...

IMovie '09 hang when opening project
I have a large project in iMovie I was working on. When adding a song from the media browser to a clip I got the "spinning Beach Ball" where iMovie hangs until I had to "Force quit". Reopening iMovie in order to edit the project hangs (spinning beach ball). I have seen multiple posts on the web and even in older post here; but have not found a working solution. Following the advice of older posts I have:
Rebooted
Repaired permissions / fixed errors
Trashed iMovie plist
Removed video clips from iPhoto (to reduce iPhoto video file size)
Used time machine to revert back to previous edit
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
Apple- are you listening? Anyone from Apple Support care to take a crack at it?

How do I select all clips in a large project with out individually select each clip?
I have a large project with ~1000 clips (still jpgs). My question is how do I select all of the clips without individually selecting each clip?
Chris
Thanks for the reply with additional information.
The suggestion given would be applicable to your Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7.
As an aside, have you updated 12 to 12.1 yet? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. The major perk of the update
is that it corrects an Expert workspace Text/Style issue. There are other less defined advantages included.
Please let us know if the suggestion for Select All worked for you.
Thanks.

Export format for clips to be used in larger project.
Back in the PE2 days, I used to capture and trim a clip and "export movie" which resulted in a "DV-AVI" file. This is what I understood PE "liked" and the best format to use for import to a larger project (and it worked nicely every time). Now, in PE11, I don't see that option. This method is handy, not only for trimming stuff you don't want, but naming the clips to help with content id. What option should I use that preserves quality and cooperates with PE best?

Hey Steve,
Will there be a PrE11/PSE11 book?

Adobe Premiere CC 7.0 The project appears to be damaged it cannot be opened.
Hi, please help me,
I accidentally deleted the project files (also auto saved files) but I recovered them (by recuva tool),when I want open the file the Premiere say me error "the project appears to be damaged it cannot be opened" .. the import into new project is not working, can you help me please? some recovery tool? Or can I send the file to you?I use version Premiere pro CC (7.0). thank you a lot!Gary,
Three things that I would try:
Look in your AutoSave folder for that Project, and find the latest - try to Open that. Note: if the defaults were not changed, you will have 5 AutoSaves in that folder. As AutoSave files are FIFO (First In - First Out), I would look at that folder with Detail View, and check the Date/Time of each file - #3 might be newer, than #5. Try each AutoSave file in reverse order - newest first, and work backward, until one does Open correctly.
As a PREL file is XML, one can use a free utility, XMLWrench, to test the PREL's header. When going to Open the PREL into XMLWrench, you will likely need to change the file extension from "XML" to "All Files," to see the PREL's.
If your issue is due to a bad/corrupt Asset, one other test would be to use Windows Explorer, to "hide" the Assets. I would Move all to separate and different, newly created sub-folders, say "Video," "Still," "Audio," etc.. Then, try to Open that original PREL again. If it gets past the initial Open stage, you should get a dialog asking "Where is file ____ ?" Then, navigate to the sub-folder, where you Moved that Asset type, say "Video" sub-folder with your Video Assets. Locate that first "missing file," and PrE will attempt to relink to it, and then automatically attempt to relink to all other Video Assets in that sub-folder. This process will repeat for each Asset type, in those sub-folders. If the Open process hangs, or gives an error message, then you know which Asset type has a problem. One can then manually separate those Assets, as before, but into individual sub-folders, so that you can isolate on the one bad file - hopefully. Depending on the number of Assets in that Asset type, it can be a bit tedious, but if you can isolate a problem Asset, you can then investigate how to handle that.
Good luck, and thanks for letting us know about the "offline editing." I had the same question as Steve G did.

IDVD won't load large project file..Help!
iDVD won't load large project file once I close the program for the first time since finishing the project. Basically, I made a compilation DVD of numerous individual files spread across quite a few folders/sub-menus totaling about 236 minutes on a Dual Layer DVD+R. I closed the project prior to burning but now, iDVD gets the rainbow wheel everytime you try to load that particular project. What's the deal?
Notes:
-iDVD does still load if I want to load another (smaller/simple project) or start a new one.
-I've tried to start over from scratch a make the exact same project. When I exited out and went to load it, it did the same thing.
-I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and iDVD 7.1.2.
Any suggestions?Premiere Elements is not part of the Cloud... and it has a different forum
http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements?view=discussions
When you go to the correct forum, you need to provide a LOT more information
From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed? How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•Has this ever worked before? If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.? Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Have you viewed the tutorial links at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1275830 page?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed? -
How to fix Premiere Pro hanging up on Exporter/Importer Quick Time host
I have been working with Premiere Pro 5 in Creative Suite for a couple of years now with no problems. A month ago, however, I ran into problems with my computer overheating when I was exporting a file. Ever since then my Premiere Pro hangs up for a very long time when trying to load. It hangs up on Exporter QuickTime host.prm and then on Importer QuickTime host. I could handle the 7 1/2 minute start time, but the problem is that I can't work on projects that have .mov files now: Premiere won't read them. I uninstalled both QuickTime and Premiere, and then reinstalled them but to no avail. I searched the forum but did not find a similar post.

I uninstalled both QuickTime and Premiere, and then reinstalled them but to no avail. I searched the forum but did not find a similar post.

Hello! I have a problem here which I can't solve. I also asked this question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14365031/jdeveloper-11-1-2-3-hangs-when-opening-project-from-jdeveloper-11-1-1-6/14369211#14369211 . The whole story in short. I have a JavaEE client-server project in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, where it works like a charm. Recently I had to upgrade JDeveloper version to the latest 11.1.2.3. The first problem was that the standard procedure of migrating project from the older version of JDeveloper to the newer one did not help: IDE was hanging forever all the time with no apparent (for me) reason, log file was silent about that. Then I tried another way: I just created the same project from the beginning and put there all necessary source files, libraries, set project properties etc. Still nothing, but now found the way to obtain a kind of error at least. I ran C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe from the command line and got the following (e.g. when I started running debug):
Jan 16, 2013 8:52:09 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
Jan 16, 2013 8:52:10 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
But I don't know what could be the next step... Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance for your attention!

not sure if you have a support contract or work for Oracle. In both cases the best option is to file a bug (service request)

Premiere CC hangs on startup ' scanning audio plugins'
Having trouble with Premiere CC on a Mac. Installed and re-installed several times, deleting everything I could find.
Everything installed fine - but when I startup Premiere, it hangs on the 'scanning audio plugins'
Does anyone have the same experience and if so, is there a simple solution?
Thank you.Hi,
Please move all Items from the below mention folder location and empty the Folder
Main Hard drive->Library->Application Support->Adobe->Common->Plugin->7.0->Media Core
Once the Media Core folder is Empty then try to launch .
Also empty the Quick time folder from the below mention location
Main Hard drive->Library->Quick time
Move all components from the Quick time folder and empty the folder and then try to launch , it might fix the problem for you as it seems some plugins are causing the issue.

Out of memory error - large project
I'm consulting on a feature doc edit, and the primary editor (Avid guy) is having serious problems accessing anything from the original project.
It's an hour and 15 minute show, with probably close to 100 hours of footage.
The box is a D2.3 G5 with 1.5 g of RAM, and the media is on two G-Tech drives: a G-RAID and a G-Drive. Plenty of headroom on both (now) and the system drive is brand new, having been replaced after the original died, and there's nothing loaded on it but FC Studio. The FCP version is 5.1.4. The project file is well over 100 MB.
We started getting Out of Memory errors with this large project, and I checked all of the usual suspects: CMYK graphics, hard drive space, sufficient RAM... all checked out okay, except possibly the less-than-ideal amount of RAM.
I copied the important sequences and a couple of select bins to a new project, and everything seems workable for now. The project is still 90 MB, and I've suggested breaking it up into separate projects and work on it as reels, but we can edit and trims work efficiently at the moment. However, the other editor has gotten to a point now where he can't even open bins in the old, big project. He keeps getting the OOM error whenever he tries to do anything.
I have no similar problems opening the same project on my G5, which is essentially identical except I have 2.5 G RAM (1 G extra). Can this difference in RAM really make this big a deal? Is there something else I'm missing? Why can't this editor access even bins from the other project?
G4 Mac OS X (10.2.x)Shane's spot on.
What I often do with large projects is pare down, just what you have done. But 90 out of 100 is not a big paredown by any stretch. In the new copy throw away EVERYTHING that's outdated: old sequences are the big culprit. Also toss any render files and re-render.
Remember that, to be effective fcp keeps EVERYTHING in ram, so that it can instantly access anything in your project. The more there is to keep track of the slower you get. -
Best way to work on a large project in CS5
Hello friends,
I've recently started editing a feature length film in APP CS5. I've never worked on a project this large before (around 160 GB). Since I've been just doing small projects, it hasn't been an issue to have my source footage on my C: drive. I sort of forgot the first rule I ever learned: Don't keep your source footage on the same drive as your program. So, I set up a master project, and then set up a sequence for every individual scene. The idea was to edit a scene, the drop it on the master time line. So I actually imported all of my footage and placed it in each corresponding sequence. Seemed like a good idea at the time. But then I started trying to edit a scene and my computer laughed at me. It just couldn't process anything within a project that big. So I started from scratch. Moved all my footage to an external drive, deleted it from my C: drive and started over. Now, I'm just moving a scene's worth of material in at a time. So far so good, but will I get bogged down again as the project grows? Even though I'm pulling everything from an external? And if I probably will, what should I do? A friend told me that I should export each sequence at a lossless format, such as the animation codec, then bring them back in and place them on a new master timeline. My concern is that those files are going to be bigger than the original files, so won't that kill my computer, too. What's the best way to work on such a large project? I'm running CS5 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro, Intel Core i3, 2.10 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Windows 7 Pro (64 - bit). Thanks guys! It's both AVCHD and DSLR. Are you saying it's too underpowered to do either of the scenarios I mentioned above, or both? One way, I will just edit each scene, and export them. Then, I'll begin with a clean slate, bringing those edited sequences back in and dropping them on a timeline in a new project. The files will be huge, but I'll only be working with those files. Nothing else will be in the way. Then I'll just have to put them in order and do a few transitions (dissolves mostly) between some of the scenes, then export the whole thing. The other way was to just build the entire movie with every scene as a sequence, editing them, and moving them to the master timeline. Are you saying I won't be able to do either? If that's the case, then I suppose I'll have to just edit each scene, export them, and then get someone with a monster machine to put it all together for me. Hoping it doesn't come to that, but it's not the worst thing I could have to do.

Best practices code structure for large projects?
Hi, I come from the Java world where organizing your code is handled conveniently through packages. Is there an equivalent in XCode/Objective C? I'd rather not lump all my observers, entities, controllers, etc in one place under "Classes"...or maybe it doesn't matter...
If anyone could point me to a document outlining recommended guidelines I'd appreciate it.
Thanks! JonIf you have a small project, you can setup Groups in Xcode to logically organize your files. Those Groups do not necessarily have to correspond to any directory structure. I have all my source files in one directory but organize them into Groups in Xcode.
If you have a larger project, you can do the same thing, but with code organized into actual directories. Groups can be defined to be relative to a particular directory.
If really do have a large project, you should organize things the same was as in Java. Your "packages" would just be libraries - either static or dynamic.
As far as official guidelines go, there really aren't any. It would be best to stick to the Cocoa Model-View-Controller architecture if that is the type of application you are working on. For other software, you can do it however you want, including following something like Sun's guidelines if you want.
