Premiere CC playback busted.

So, yeah, I downloaded CC to my shiny massive and expensive iMac and everything is staring at me all bright eyed and bushy tailed, showing me content shot with the Nikon D7000, and the most basic expectation won't work - no playback. I can scrub through it at a zillion frames a second no problem, but it won't play when I tenderly tickle the space bar. Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, Lightroom, all well-served soldiers in my digital battles.
I thought, wow, they all must be a bad files. So I tried iMovie. You have any idea how much I hate iMovie? But it works. Works great, just like FCP used to.
I've dug through the forums and seen the comments and I don't see anything resembling a mea culpa, which is what I think we're due, from Adobe.
Yes my system is up to par with your requirements. Yes I rendered a file to see if that would work. Yes I shut down every other program begging my machine's attention.
Please tell me there's a simple Adobe setting I need entertain to get your tool to deliver it's most primary function. Play.
Thank you.

External audio, of course. I just started Premiere and haven't touched the preferences.

  • LEAD Codec for MotionJPEG-Premiere Elements Playback Issues

There are several reports online (here and elsewhere) recommending installing LEAD Codec for MotionJPEG-Premiere Elements Playback Issues. Most, if not all, of the feedback is that it works and is only $10 USA dollars.
Today I went in search of that codec at LEAD Technologies and could not find a $10 LEAD Codec.
    http://www.leadtools.com/SDK/Multimedia/Multimedia-MCMP-MJPEG-codec.htm
Instead, I found a bunch of kits priced at way over $100.00.
From the chat service at that web site, I discovered that the LEAD codec is no longer sold separately. In order to get that codec, you would have to buy the Multimedia SDF Kit (priced $595.00).
    Any workaround suggestions
    OR
pay the $595.00 to get the LEAD Codec
    OR
go the file conversion route for the MotionJPEG?

    ATR,
    Great news!
On the PrPro forum, it's been 100% for MainConcept, and 99% for Morgan. One user could not get the Morgan to work on his/her system, but that could well have been OE on that poster's part. Still, those are not bad odds, and the 'cost" of the Morgan is better...
Just glad that it worked for you.

  • Premiere No Playback/lack of support/Magix

    Hi Everyone,
Having been an adobe premiere user for ages in various versions, when I brought a new laptop recently I decided to go for Elements 9, for familiarity. Upon installation there was no playback or frozen picture in the preview window making it useless. I tried everything I could think of. Then called the Adobe helpline, and spoke to a very pleasant but ultimately useless man, who did not solve the issue, booked a return call, that did not happen, and pointed me in the direction of the forums. It was here that I discovered loads of other people having a similar issue. There is a Bad Drivers file "fix" that is mentioned widely - however in my case however I got rid of it - upon opening the program it was put back again! No fix. I also made sure that the Nvidia driver was the latest. No fix. Drove 270 mile each way to Birmingham where Adobe were exhibiting (Focus 2011) spoke to an "expert" who knew less than me! Waste of time.
Since then I have loaded Magix HD Video Editor, which actually has quite a bit of similarity to Prem Elements with one big exception. It works, with no hassel. Out of the box - easy....  with the help of a professional editor, and a software designer, and three hours on the laptop, I now have premiere elements working too, with no help from Adobe!
SO... in conclusion, I would strongly recommend that unless you are a computer expert with experience in video editing AVOID PREMIERE ELEMENTS - go for MAGIX. This will be what I recomend to people when I do talks around the clubs and things where I go. Such level of knowledge to get a "lite" program working, especially for someone lacking in knowledge, in version 9 for goodness sake is simply awful.... If you really must, download a trial before you buy!!!
Good luck to all and happy film making!!

Not sure if you have seen Neale's suggestion, regarding the BadDriver.txt file, but he recommended setting the file's attribute to ReadOnly, once it has been setup properly.
OTOH, if you are happy with Magix, I can understand wanting to stay with it, and ignoring PrE, which seems to be giving you troubles. Many users have found that they liked Magix, CyberLink or Sony Vegas better.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere choppy playback after update

    Greetings,
I'm having a rather bizarre issue which has just came about recently.
I've been running PPro CC successfully for six months without issue. After the most recent update to 7.2.2 I'm having choppy playback both in the source and program monitors. I'm editing mostly AVCHD from a Panasonic HMC80 camera. The choppy playback occurs regardless of resolution or frame rate. I even tried a standard DV file and that too is playing back not smooth. Changing the playback resolution to 1/2, 1/4 etc.. makes no difference.  Changing from Mercury software to hardware makes no difference. I tried creating a new project as well as clearing cache files, previews, etc.. and still have the problem. As a last effort, I re-installed my OS, and re-installed Creative Cloud and Premiere. The issue is still present. My hardware cannot be the issue as I've been editing successfully before. Nothing has changed except for the Premiere update. I've read elsewhere that others are experiencing the same issue. Any thoughts?

    Premiere Pro CC 7.2.2
    i7 [email protected]
    8GB RAM
    NVIDIA GT 425M

Im having the same problem. Didnt show up until after the 7.2 update.
Major lag on one specific spot in the timeline, and muting all tracks makes no difference on the lag.
I cleaned my project file, caches, downgraded playback resolution, tried the mercury playback function. Nothing. Now the choppiness seems to bleed into the rest of the project until it is all so slow and unplayable. I'm having a harder time finishing this project as time goes on.

  • Premiere CS4 playback .mov (quicktime file) in Mac

    Hi,
I recently acquired CS4 and the latest loaded Macbook Pro 2.66 GHz. I have problem with playing back .mov file - which obvisouly main NLE format for Mac. I've been testing with 15 seconds 1920 x 1080 clip - size about 150 MB which I transcoded from AVCHD via Cineform/TMPGEnc (PC)/VoltaicHD. Regardless of any transcoders I use, when I playback the file in the Source window, video is stuttered and very choppy. Rendering certainly helps that I can play nicely in the timeline but the major problem is that I cannot work with multi-cam monitor on. With only two .mov clips on multi-cam, it is way too stuttered and choppy that there's no way I can work with.  HDV footages captures directly from my Z5U works flawless even with editing mult-cam monitor - which obviously not .mov file. I even tested the same clip transcoded into .avi and it plays back nicely with multi-camera monitor on my old PC (Core2 2.0 GHz) running Premiere Pro 2.0. Thought it is Premiere Memory Management issue dealing with quicktime file (.mov).
Does anyone has the same issue working with .mov file for editing multi-cam? I'm so stressed out for the last few days - I want to go back to FCP instead. Thanks!
    Jun

    Dan,
Forget about using CS4 for multicam HDV streaming. I decided to go
back FCP 6. I tried all the intermediate codec with various file sizes
for playing back multicam stream in CS4 but none of them working.
Either playing back is very choppy stuttered or doesn't play back at
all.  CS4 is not the right program for Mac. Funny thing is it works
flawlessly on PC which is less powered than my Macbook Pro. They
shoudnt release it for Mac.  Sorry I couldnt help you much. Please let
me know if you find a solution for this.  Good luck.

  • Premiere Timeline Playback Stuttering & Stopping

    Hello,
I am editing a 3-5min project shot on the Red Camera. I am trying to play my interviews in the timeline but Premiere CC continues to get backed up and slow down. I contacted the company who shot the footage and they advised me to lower the resolution in playback to about 1/8th, however, the lowest Premiere CC is allowing me to drop the resolution is 1/2, which plays the video a little better, but not fast enough for me to get my work done efficiently. Is there a way I can get Premiere CC to allow me to drop my resolution further (to 1/8th or 1/16th)?

    Hi Dan,

RED files usually have the ability to drop to at least 1/8 resolution. Can we get the specs of the .r3D file?
    Thanks,

  • Premiere - weird playback issue with GPU accel on, doesn't do it with GPU accel off

Here's the sequence how it looks when paused:
Here's what it looks like as soon as I hit play:
I had changed the origins of each of the 4 video tracks to 0,0 and then positioned them, it almost appears like using CUDA it ignores the origins of the 4 tracks....  if I turn off GPU acceleration, plays fine.

  • Premiere Pro playback Footage issue - W/ After Effects Composition

Hi, I've had a very irritating issue as of late.
I've been working on a project for the past couple weeks and it has been going well.
I use AVCHD 1080p 29.97fps 24p footage. It plays perfectly fine in my Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4. I have used After Effects to replace many parts of the footage and has gone very well... Except one piece of footage.
For what ever reason, it plays terribly only when I apply an After Effects composition to it. If it is the raw footage, it's fine. If I alter it in after effects it's fine. But if it's altered from AE and I attempt to play it in Premiere Pro it repeats old frames. A mixture of stuttering and several frames back through out the whole clip.
I have NO idea what caused it or why it's happening.
    Does anyone know?
    Thank You.

AVCHD footage is highly compressed using a GOP compression scheme. This makes it unsuitable for heavy processing and subject to all kinds of errors and artifacts when re-compressed. The best workflow is to convert (transcode) your AVCHD footage to a lossless or nearly lossless codec that preferably uses YUV color space. I work mostly on a Mac so my preference is Apple ProRez 444. I transcode everything that I work on that is going to require more than just straight cuts.
Try transcoding (Adobe Media Encoder or Compressor or even Quick Time Pro are a few of the options) your problematic clip, replace the AVCHD footage in your AE comp with the transcoded footage, then re-render to a lossless or nearly lossless codec. Bring your new render into PPro and render a preview. Let us know if this fixes your problem.

  • Premiere CC Playback Image Uncompressed MOV BMCC

    Hi,
I I was using CS6 with and importing quicktime uncompressed RGB video via resolve, no problems on CS6 (with black magic video desktop installed). I installed Premiere CC and the video does this in the  monitors:
Not sure why, works perfectly in CS6.  Also, tried some regular dslr video, no issue.  Not sure if this is adobe or Blackmagic codec releated. Weird that cs6 has no problem with it but CC does.  I even get the settings for nblackmagic when creating a new sequences.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    >Weird that cs6 has no problem with it but CC does
I can't help directly since I don't have CC... but I have read several messages that indicate that going from CS6 to CC will "sometimes-to-often" require device driver updates
The specific messages I remember were about nVidia drivers that worked with CS6 but not CC, so it would not be surprising if Blackmagic also needed an updated driver

  • No audio after capture in Premiere Elements Playback

I am capturing video from a Sony DV camcorder using an s-video cable.  When I playback the captured video there is no audio.  I have played the .avi file in Windows Movie Maker and there is no audio there either.  any ideas???

S-video is only a video stream -- so of course you won't get any audio!
But more than that, capture from a miniDV camcorder should over a FireWire cable connection only.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by their, speed, controller type and how allocated, or how to get that info.
OK, we've got a good start. Let me try to step you though the rest:
For "speed," I'm asking for the speed of the HDD's in RPM. Chances are likely they are 5400RPM, or 7200RPM. It could also be that they are 10000RPM, though that might be most likely for only your C:\.
Controller type refers to how the HDD's are connected to the MoBo, i.e. SATA II, ATA-100, etc. This data should be readily available via Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Disk drives. Then go to Details.
The "how allocated," refers to how you and Windows are using the HDD's. An example would be:
C:\OS, programs and Windows' Virtual Memory (Page File), D:\media, PrPro Project and all Scratch Disks. While you are at this, check the Windows' Memory Management to, to tell us whether your Page File is static (set size and location), or is dynamic (Windows sets this, as is needed).
I am assuming that both your C:\ and your D:\ are each physical HDD's and are not logical drives, i.e. partitioned, and that they are both internal, and that D:\ is not an external. Is that correct?
The first thing that I see is that D:\ is getting very, very full. Depending on your answers to the above, that might play a bit of a roll in the equation.
    Good luck,

  • Mac: is it possible to change playback setting so that it'll still play if I minimize Premiere?

    Hey all
To describe my situation; I edit with Premiere and sometimes I want to just check the audio whilst browsing the net or something else. However every time I select an application other than Premiere during playback, it pauses playback, which is annoying.
I've googled it and looked in the settings but can't seem to find a way around it? Is it possible to change it so that it'll play back regardless of what I am looking at?
    Many thanks!

Most welcome and do not forget to file the Feature Request. Not sure what it will take from Adobe's standpoint, but many have asked for the playback capability, when focus has shifted, for whatever reason.
I encounter this, but most often when needing to play the video portion, while recording narration in another program. For that, I use a slight variation on Joe's workaround, and just Export my "reference file," to be played in an AV file player, like VLC, while recording. I do similar, when going to SmartSounds' Sonicfire Pro Scoring Edition, but now they have a plug-in, so those days will be gone for me, as soon as I do some updating. For years, it was always Export a reference file.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when trimming (often during playback)

I've been having Premiere Pro CC freeze on me about every 2 minutes when I trim in the timeline using keyboard shortcuts (trim backward/forward one frame). It seems to happen more often during playback, but also happens exclusively during trimming (and occasionally when I use a keyboard shortcut to step forward/backward one frame - obviously not during playback).
This appears to be a weird freeze & not a crash, in the sense that playback freezes and I get the spinning beachball/wheel of death and premiere is unresponsive, but when I force-quit, Premiere resumes playback for a second before giving the "Premiere has experienced a serious error and must shut down" error message, and then shutting down.
Any help would be much appreciated - this is really causing a massive slow-down in my editing.

The same issue also happens on my iMac (from early 2013 - I don't have the specs on me).

    Hi minutephysics,
Thanks for your posts. It is always better to have latest version of cuda drivers even, if you are not using the gpu acceleration. So, please update the drivers and then check the performance. Please update the drivers from the link.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 - playback and C300 issues

    Hi,
I seem to be having an issue with Premiere Pro playback.
At the moment, I'm looking through a rough assemble I've done on a PPro sequence and then the playback will start getting choppy. The only solution seems to be rebooting PPro, which is obviously very frustrating. The footage is C300 files, stored on my RAID. Why is this happening?
My system details are as follows:
MBP early 2011, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD
6TB Pegasus R6 RAID connected via Thunderbolt
    30" ACD
    Mac OS 10.7.4 , PPro 6.0.1
I use a 2-screen setup, so the 30" monitor will have the PPro tools and seq etc, whilst I use the 17" MBP screen as a viewing monitor.
Another issue I had which is more annoying that anything is that when I imported the rushes from my C300, PPro decided to import a fairly long (80") interview as loads of separate .MXF files RATHER than joining them together, which FCP seemed to have no problem in doing...How do I sort that out?
    Thanks

I am having precisely the same problem as bricklaneeditor, and have exactly the same setup: MBP early 2011, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD,
    30" ACD, Mac OS 10.7.4 , PPro 6.0.1
Indeed, a restart of Premiere Pro always fixes the problem -- for a while.  I've also seen similar behavior in Media Composer 6.0.1 once or twice so am wondering whether it's an issue with this machine/OS, as the playback software architectures are so different on those two NLE's.
I should also mention that the problem is not isolated to any particular file format -- have seen it with timelines containing 7D footage, HDV and ProRes files.
I strongly suspect some sort of problem on either Apple's or Adobe's end with the GPU in this machine, as it is ATI and not Nvidia -- and is, as far as I know, the only non-CUDA GPU, at least on the Mac side, certified to work with the CS6 Mercury Playback Engine.
Also wondering whether an over-the-top or a clean install of Mountain Lion might shake things up enough to make a difference.  (Otherwise I'm in no big hurry to upgrade my OS.)  Is anyone seeing this problem with PPro under 10.8?  Might be worth installing 10.8 over an external HDD clone of the System drive and booting temporarily from the clone just to see if the problem persists in Premiere.
Anyone have any thoughts on these possibilities?
