Premiere CC Project no longer loading

Im running media off two external hard drives.
This morning I forgot to turn one of the drives on before I opened my Premiere project.
When the missing media alert showed up, I canceled and quit. Then turned on my missing drive.
Now when the project opens it freezes and says 887 files to load at the bottom. but nothing happens.
Other Projects open correctly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Kyle

hi kylecam,
please check if you are able to import your old project in a new one. Also check if after effects can open the project. Please go to preferences & uncheck the option for writing xmps.
try the steps & see if that helps.
thanks,

  • Large Premiere CS5 Project not fully loading

I have a project in Premiere that is relatively large (lots of footage, effects, music, etc.) that will not fully load. The actual 'loading' window does appear, with the loading taking a minute or so. However, when the project finally opens, all clips say "Media Pending", and take forever to create thumbnails. The project has not made it through this opening process without appearing to completely create all thumbnails to only crash. Sometimes the 'Saving' window will appear, but the progress bar will remain empty. The window is then inactive, and if I try to cancel the saving, the entire program crashes. I'm not too happy about this. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.  We're getting closer.  Next...
when I would click on the project to use it
What specifically does that mean?  Where exactly are you clicking?

  • Project No Longer Loads

I have been working on a project for several weeks. Two days ago I tried to load it to work on it but after the progress bar reaches 100%, it just sits there.
I tried starting another project and importing some video and it appears to work. The lost project represents weeks of work and I can't afford to spend that much time recreating it. I am using PrE 8 with an Intel 9650 Quad core, 8GB of ram. I have tried reinstalling PrE8, updating my video card driver, and looking for a similar problem in this Forum. I also tried loading all the backup project files, with the same results. I suspect there might be a problem with the project preferences file also, but I'm new to Windows 7 and I can't locate the prefs file equivalent. I let the program run trying to open the project for 24 hours but it just sits there. Anyone have a similar problem?

    Welcome to the forum.
    First, a couple of questions:
1.) Have you updated PrE 8 to 8.0.1?
2.) Do you have the latest Apple QT Player upgrade?
3.) Have you also upgraded your audio driver, along with the video driver that you mention? Did you upgrade the video driver from the vid-card mfgr's. site?
4.) Have any of the Assets been Moved, or Renamed, since you last had the Project Open? Normally, this will result in a "Where is file XXXX?" dialog screen, but I have read of hangs on this step.
5.) Can you list the file types for the Assets in that Project?
This PrPro-Wiki FAQ Entry will list some steps for PrPro, one of which, Import Project, does not exist in PrE, but does mention using XML Wrench to check the XML integrity of the PREL file. I'd definitely try that.
    Good luck,

  • Archived Project no longer loads in iDVD

I have an iDVD project which I created on another machine. I saved it as an archive on an external hard drive, copied it to my B&W, opened it in iDVD and burned several copies. Now I want to make more copies but iDVD 5.01 claims that it can't find certain files (m4a and mov) so the project will not open.
What good is an archive that is missing files?
Any idea on where these files may have gone? or do I have to start from scratch?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Premiere Elements 8 won't load recently saved project

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 to create a highlight video.  I made two videos last year and didn't have this problem but this video is slightly longer.  About twenty minutes total consisting of approximately 100 video clips.  I've added one more group of clips and not when I try to load the saved project I just get a gray blank screen.  The load message finishes but nothing appears.  The drop down menus are mostly still grayed out.  No good selections except to press load project again.  This causes a system error that shuts down the application.  Any tips or tricks are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave Flick

Bill, here is the good news.
I updated the Quick Time like you suggested but no help.  I updated the video driver but no help.  I disabled the hardware acceleration but no help.  During this time I realized the problem started after I upgraded McAfee.  I remembered the new McAfee Real Time scanning effected my Outlook software.  So I disabled the McAfee Real Time scanning and then Premiere Elements 8 would successfully load my saved project.  What a relief.  I went back and Turned On the McAfee Real Time scanning but changed the setting to only scan programs and documents, not all files as previously set.  I'm back in business and really appreciate your help.  Thanks a million.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 No Longer Saves Project

I am working on a Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processors and 12 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM Memory. I am running Premiere Pro CS5 on this machine.
I work for a company who produces 50-100 short, education-based videos for clients across the country to post on YouTube. The model we use is not complicated, but geared toward getting these videos edited with graphics and music quickly so they can be released slowly over time. So, needless to say, I'm accessing their project files quite often, until all of their videos are edited. For some reason, however, after a certain amount of times opening & quitting the program, the project no longer saves. This has happened to TWO projects so far (one using AVCHD footage, and the other Canon MXF files).
    Here's what happens:
The project starts to take longer to save, then, one day I go to save or Auto-Save kicks in and the dialog box comes up but the progress bar never changes.
It will stay this way as long as I let it, but as soon as I click "Cancel" Premiere freezes up and I have to resort to "Force Quit".
It is at this point that I become aware of the insanely large file size of the project....in this particular case, 380.2MB.
    I have tried:
    - "Save As"
    - Duplicating the project in Finder and opening the copy
    - Opening Auto-Save Files
    - Creating a new project completely and importing the old project
    - Trashing Preferences
    - And even resetting the workspace to the default "Editing" workspace (a suggestion when Googling the problem).
None of the above has helped.
Luckily, at my company, we have another machine (Mac OS X ver. 10.6.8, 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processors, 12 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 Memory) which runs CS5.5. As a workaround, I've been able to take these projects over there and just continue to work on them in CS5.5. But, obviously this is not a solution. I'd like to know what the problem may be behind all this, especially since this is a problem that could theoretically happen in CS5.5 down the line.
Any insight is appreciated, and please let me know if you need more info on my part!!

    Maybe it was a 32 bit plug-in?

  • Premiere Pro Project Very Slow To Load....Why?

    Hello All
Really hope that someone can suggest a reason as to why I may be experiencing this problem.  Firstly, heres the problem:
Problem: I open a Premiere Project and it opens up.  The bar at the bottom reports that all media is loaded, however my thumbnails are very slow to populate and then be hover scrubbable (new verb!).  Not only that the timeline thumbnails take ages to update and are not available for me to begin scrubbing through right away. Very frustrating.
    Here's some facts:
    System Hardware:
    2013 Mac Pro; 3Ghz 8 Core Model; 32 GB RAM; Dual D700s 6GB
SSD - Mac Standard 512GB as boot drive and for applications
Edit Drive - Thunderbolt connected LaCie 2Big 4TB Drive x 2 (these are daisy chained via thunderbolt too and striped together in a RAID for maximum throughput) Speeds are generally in excess of 500Mbps read and write
    System Software and Information:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10
Premiere Pro Project stored on Edit Drive with all media for that project
Cache Files stored on same drive as Project (Edit Drive)
    Project Size = 48.7MB
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this problem is occurring? Previously had problems with the MacPro/GPU Mavericks 10.9.3 issue that everyone had been reporting but seems to have gone away now and after some other troubleshooting like resetting preferences and PRAM; running Safe Boot Disk Permission Repair (as recommended by Larry Jordan).
Really appreciate any help and this is a really annoying issue and is affecting our workflow hugely.
    Cheers

Hm, if the issue occurs with two different host systems, then i would rather think that there are maybe issues with the network. Are you aware of any changes/updates done by IT? Security patches, changes of software on router, ....
What you maybe can try is to isolate one of the host and connect one of the PXI using a cross cable directly to this host. Does the issue occur there again(still)?
You can format/reinstall one of the PXIs to do a cross check with one system with original state, the other with newly installed state.

  • Help! Premiere Elements 7 won't load project

Premiere elements 7  won't load my project.  Icon just spins - for about 10 minutes - then it freezes.  Figures that I am so close to finishing!!!  What are my options?  Can I copy the project and open on another computer?  Can I download a newer version of Pre and upload the unifinshed project??  Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, PrE does not offer that many options, if a Project goes "off."
However, these would be my first steps, and pretty much in this order:
Go to the PrE AutoSaves, and change the View to Details, so you can see the Dates/Times. Try Opening the very latest one. Note: if you have not changed the default, there should be five AutoSave files, and they should be located in the PrE AutoSave folder, in the Project's heirarchy. You want the latest one, not the one with the highest increment. AutoSave 03 could be newer, than AutoSave 05.
If that does not work, then try this - Move your Assets to a new location. Then, Open your original Project. As it loads, you should be presented with "Where is file _____?" and that is what you want. Here is the tricky part. If you have many Assets, and hopefully they are in the same folder, or a few folders, and not spread around the system. I would move all Video Assets to a Video folder, all stills to a Stills folder, all Audio to an Audio folder, etc. as you want to isolate things. When presented with the "Where is file ____?" navigate to the folder with that file, and locate it. PrE will then relink to all used Assets in that folder. This is why I would segregate Assets by type, to isolate the problem, if possible. If all of your Video files load fine, you will get a "Where is file ____?" for the stills, or the music, and repeat. If the Project fails on one Asset type, then you have located the bad Asset by type, and can repeat the exercise, by segregating each file in that Asset type, to a unique folder, navigating to each folder, when prompted, until you find the bad Asset.
In the tests above, never do a Save, but only a Save_As, so as to not overwrite the original PREL file.
Good luck, and hope that it is a bad Asset, and nothing more.

  • Long loading times and jerky playback

    Hello,
I work often with Adobe Premiere CS6 but got an annoying problem.
When I have a project with many clips in the sequence, than I got really long loading times and often the playback is jerky
Is there a function, which reduces the loading times and/or the jerky playback?
I already used "Remove Unused" and "Delete Render Files".
Is it helpful to split the clips to serveral sequences and put all clips together at the end?

  • Error Importing Premiere Elements project into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi,
I am working on a multi-part video project that I started in Premiere Elements 8.  I put in hours upon hours of editing on the first part and I found that the more I edited, the more often the program would crash (infuriating!).  So I started using Premiere Pro CS5 to produce the second part, resolving to come back to the first part later.  Well, I've come back around to needing this first part done, and it is just undoable in Elements (crashes every 20 seconds!).  I'd like to import that project into CS5 if possible.  The help documentation says this should be perfectly possible... but I'm having no luck.
When I attempt to open my Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro, it tells me the project must be converted from Elements .prel to Pro .prproj, and I click through the prompts as normal.  But then as soon as it starts trying to open the project, I get this:
"The Project could not be loaded. It may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I downloaded the Premiere Elements 9 trial to see if it would be less crashy (and it is), but I'd really prefer to have all my video in one program, and CS5 does the best job (and has most of my hours invested).  Elements 9 opens the "damaged" project just fine and I can edit and export normally, so why can't CS5?
Am I stuck recreating the project from the ground up in CS5?

In very general terms, a contemporary PrE Project (PREL), will Open in PrPro, with the steps that you outlined.
Now, there are all sorts of considerations, for aspects that will not likely work:
Instant Movie/Themes, as PrPro cannot read those
Some Effects that PrPro does not have, like the NewBlue FX
Some Transitions that PrPro does not have
Some Title animation Presets, that PrPro does not have
Do you have any of the above in your PrE Project? There are probably other circumstances, but those are all that come immediately to my mind.
The simpler the PrE Project, the greater the likelyhood that it will Convert to a PrPro PRPROJ file.
PrE 8 and PrPro CS5 should be close enough to work, again in those general terms. I can Open simple PrE 4.0 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but cannot Open PrE 7, 8 or 9 Projects in PrPro 2.0.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Elements project imported into Premiere Pro CS5.5 becomes unusable after first save

I have Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have been trying for some time to successfuly edit an old project that was originally created in Premiere Elements (not sure which version--probably 7.0). It has the .prel extension. The project imports just fine, and I am able to edit it initially. However, if I save my new Premiere Pro project, close Pr and try to open the new project again, I get the "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements." error message. I have tried many of the various project recovery suggestions people have made in this forum and elsewhere online, but none of them seem to work. I even opened the project in XML Wrench, but there were no errors returned when I clicked "check is well formed." Once I close the project after doing some initial editing, it is gone. Is this a known issue? Is there any way I can be able to edit the old project in Pr and save my work? Thanks!

Have you tried using the project manager to re-copy all elements and timeline etc into a totally new directory. I'm just curious to see if that would make a difference. I'd be intrested to see if when making a new project in this manor if it would because as you have stated the normal save methods haven't.

  • "project cannot be loaded it may be damanged..."

I am using Premiere CS6 on a Macbook Pro and am in the middle of editing a huge project. I went to open the project today and got this error.
"the project cannot be loaded it may be damaged or contain outdated elements"
I have no idea how or why this is happened.
    PLEASE HELP!
    What I have tried:
    1. Starting a new project and importing the entire project. I get the same error message.
    2. Starting a new project and importing just the sequences. Premiere just stalls.
    3. Cleaning the Media Cache.
    4. Uninstalling then re-installing Premiere.
    5. Importing the project into After Effects. I get an error message.
    6. The auto-save files open, but the latest one is quite old.
    7. Duplicating the project file.
    8. Moving the project file and file structure to a new directory.
    None of these have worked!
    Any other ideas?

Same problem here. It's happened twice in the last few weeks. I tried all the same things as you did, except re-installing. I also tried to repair the file with xml wrench, but it didn't help. The first time I lost about 6 hours work - ouch.
What seems odd to me is the lack of current auto-saves. Could there be some connection?
I'm on Windows. The problems occurred only after the latest update. The only difference I can see compared  to other projects is the size. This project is about 50MB, due to some warp stabilization.
What complicates things is an error message from the BIOS when I started the computer each time the error happened. "overclocking failed" This apparently is a generic ASUS error message, and I think it might not be related to this, as it has occurred other times, even when there is no overclocking. Maybe coincidental.

  • Is it possible to export, and include AE compositions used within a Premiere Pro project, via project manager?

I've several Premiere Pro CC 2014 projects I want to relocate via project manager (one at a time). They're excessive in size (many long and unused footage files), so "Create New Trimmed Project" is the setting-option, within project manager, most attractive. BTW I love how project manager does this... However, when I check on its new location, I don't see any linked AfterEffects files. Fine, I try the other setting "Collect Files and Copy to New Location". This option allows me to now copy everything including rendered scenes featuring my AE compositions (and a lot of excess, unused files)... but still no AE files!
Is it possible to export a Premiere Pro project, excluding unused files, yet include all used files... especially linked files such as AE compositions?

Though not exactly the solution I seek, I've tried an alternative approach... it works (if anyone's interested)... but my original question still stands.
Alternative approach (and probably the only option now):
When I copy & trim my Premiere Pro project via project manager to its new location, I can open the new file and see the track editor now includes broken links to AfterEffects compositions. Since I don't wish to relink these to the current .AEP file, I may package** the original AE project to a location near my newly-located Premiere Pro project folder. To do this, I open the original .AEP file containing any compositions linked to my original Premiere Pro project, and use File < Dependencies < Collect Files. This feature copies all files (and a new .AEP copy) from this AE project to my newly selected destination (as long as no files are missing).
So at this point, when I open my newly-located PP project, I can relink the broken AfterEffects composition links in PP to the new .AEP file. Yay!
**package (for those unaware) is the term used within Adobe InDesign. This feature gathers all linked files that makeup the overall design and layout, and copies into a new folder.

  • Premiere CS5 - Project Monitor playback is jerky after resintall of operating system and CS5

PROBLEM: Premiere CS5 - Project Monitor playback is jerky
This had NOT been an issue prior to reinstalling the operating system and all software.  I have read numerous articles on the forums and have tried everything I can find...with no results.
STEPS TAKEN TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM:
I have scoured the articles here http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/search/index.cfm?loc=en_us&term=choppy%20video&cat=support&pr oduct=premierepro and others at Cretive Cow
I have installed all updates for CS5 Master Collection, immediately following a fresh install of the operating system and SC5 Master Collection.
I have ensured that sequence settings match resolution and frame rates of footage - the problem persists.
I have tested by importing both standard def AVI files created from tape and high def SONY MP4 files - the problem persists.
I have ensured the latest Video drivers are installed (clean installation selected, so that the Windows default would be removed) - the problem persists.
I have tried the 3D settings in NVIDIA control panel | Program Settings tab... selected Adobe Premiere Pro from the drop down menu | and chaged 'Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration from the value of 'Multiple Display performance' to the value of 'single display performance'; although, I ran two monitors before using this latest NVIDIA video driver and I didn't experience this jerky footage issue - the problem persisted after affecting that change; so, I switched it back.
Since I have 96 GB of RAM, I don't use a pagefile.  A zero MB page file is the same setting I had prior to rebuilding the C:  Regardless of whether I have a pagefile or not, the problem persists.
I have tried creating a fresh user profile, where the user profile is created on the C: drive by default; and, where I left it there on C: to test for the jerky playback in a new PrPR project  - the problem persists.
Regarding the C: (system drive) and why I reinstalled everything, it had become unstable and was locking up.  I ran DISK ERROR CHECKING with the FIX parameter and the system was still locking up on me.  Keep in mind that the System drive is a solid state drive.  Anyhow, I had no choice but to dive in and reinstall everything.  I wiped the system partition of the SSD using quick format and started installing the operating system.  Now, I've read the CLAIM that this cuases performance issues; but, the only place I see issues is in the video monitor playback in PrPr.  Everything else - Office applications...printing...browsing the Internet...works just fine, everything is responsive, whereas, I couldn't do ANYTHING with it before.

    I'VE RESOLVED THE PROBLEM!
    PREFACE:
OK, I am hoping that through this week-long Operating-System-and-Software-reinatalltion excerise of mine, I have revealed something that everyone -- whom have been cursing Adobe over -- can apply to their systems to resolve this jerky video problem within PremierePro CS5 (and quite possibly other versions, too).
If you've read my post above, you've seen all the steps I've taken to resolve the problem.  I've read many posts, some of which have mentioned  hardware upgrade / opitmization steps that one may take to enhance performance, and hopefully resolve the problem.  I've read where people have taken these steps and have still experienced the problem...and then they curse Adobe.  Fer-shame, fer-shame, fer-shame! (nod to Gomer Pyle).
In my case, I knew it wasn't an Adobe issue, as it had worked flawlessly before; and, it wouldn't require a hardware upgrade or reconfigureation, as my system is completely maxed out with two processors, a system drive and a hardware RAID5 array, a CUDA-suported nVIDIA 4800 FX card, and 96 GB of RAM.  bla bla bla, puke...whatever.  Bottom line is this:
It's not a software issue.  It's not and Adobe issue; and Gawd no!  It's NOT a PC vs. Mac issue!  HA HA.  The software had worked swimmingly well prior to the reinstallation / 'lobotomy' I perfomed on the system drive.
    SOLUTION FOR ME:
Download and install the updated drivers for the motherboard.  Mine is an Intel Workstation Board S5520SC.  Intel has an INTEL DRIVER UPDATE UTILITY which automatically scaned my Intel system and identified drivers which needed updating.  A very handy, time-saving tool!!!  Here's the URL: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
The scan revealed two Intel drivers needing an update:
    Intel Chipset
    Wired Networking
    and one non-intel driver:
    Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-fi
I downloaded and installed these three drivers, rebooted, and tested PremierePro, and was extatic to find this resolved the problem.
If you have a motherboard from another manufacturer, then you may want to navigate over to their wibsite to locate chipset and other updated drivers for your motherboard.
    ROOT CAUSE:
While Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate was able to install certain default drivers during the Operating System installation (keeping in mind that this was done on an Intel Solid State Drive that I formatted using Quick Format) these default chipset drivers apparently weren't current and were ultimately the root cuase of the jerky video playback within PremierePro CS5.
