  • Premiere CC - media offline when working with AE comps

I am working with Premiere CC and using After Effects CC comps for some Keylight 1.2  keying within the project - AE comps created in Premiere via "right click" on clip saying "superseded by AE comp".
The After Effects project incl. all the comps and Premiere project saved locally - same location, local.
Till now editing (P) & keying (AE) worked without any huge problems - due to using 4k material I had some play-back problems - not worth mention it though.
    POSSIBLE REASON? When it started:
With both open - AE and Premiere project - I worked on the key in the AE comps. When finishing the keying I saved the changes - what normally works finw without asking me WHERE to save it.
Now AE asked me where I would like to save the project although it should have a location already - as I saved it before locally.
So I saved it with the same name and same location - overwriting the "old" project. That was when the problem occured...
    PROBLEM:
Now the Premiere project can not find/link the AE comps / project. Saying: Media Offline.
Although it displays the right path in the Premiere project window!
    TRIED THIS:
In Premiere I tried to "Link to media". Which will work for any three of the 20 AE comps!
At the 3rd or 4th one I try to link (automatically doesn't work here for some reason?) Premiere either hangs after a while or "changes mind" and finds no links anymore - even those I relinked just minutes before will have no connection anymore - again "offline"!
Nonetheless, the After Effects project works fine. No problems here (project has neither a long name nor blanks).
Any ideas what could be wrong? How can I relink the comps? I am really clueless.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Mylenium basically answered your question: quit both applications, manually clean Media Cache Database, restart PrPro and let it rebuild Media Cache Database (reconform files). Other than that provide information about your disk setup. Since AE wanted to know where to save project file, it might for some reason lost connection...

  • Hilights Clipping Problem with Premiere CS3 Media Encoder

I've just discovered a pretty serious problem with the way Premiere CS3 processes video to the Media Encoder.
Many of you are familiar with the term "super whites", the ability of modern cameras to capture and record levels above 100 IRE. With HDV and newer technology, recording to 109 IRE is quite common.
I was aware for some time that importing this footage into Premiere results in a hard truncation of whites above 100 IRE. However, I discovered last month that the Fast Color Corrector has a Output Levels adjustment that can rescale all the levels to fit down in the 0-100 IRE range. I verified this using the scopes in Premiere and by observing recovered details in my footage. I was even able to export frames to TIFF files and show the recovered highlights in the exported TIFFs. The difference is substantial and not subtle--it's the difference between a sky completely blown to white and one where you can see the sky is blue with clouds in it.
Last night, I discovered that the Unsharp Mask filter doesn't handle footage above 100 IRE, either. Even if I use Levels to set 0-235 RGB range, somehow, Unsharp Mask is processing the un-level-adjusted signal, regardless of stacking order of the filters.
I rendered two Blu-ray discs, one with Unsharp and the other without. To my astonishment, BOTH discs lacked any detail in the highlights--the whites were clipped at 100 IRE!
Now I turned attention to the Media Encoder. Pausing on a frame where I can see the difference between 100 IRE and 109 IRE and shades in between, I fire up the Media Encoder and note that even in ME's previews screens, the whites are already clipped. There is more highlight detail in the program monitor, whereas it's all gone in the Media Encoder's display.
It is obvious that highlight information, even scaled back to 0-235, is being treated as if it were 0-255 and clipped at 235 before passing to the encoder. This is a real disappointment, because there is another half f-stop of detail up there that I was trying to pull into the useable range of 100 IRE for the Blu-ray disc. Since it is very difficult to shoot footage and limit the peak whites in-camera to no more than 100 IRE, nearly all of us are losing valuable picture information.
Even if you can recover the highlights on the timeline through a Levels filter, it gets thrown away again on the way to the Media Encoder. Short of exporting a few hundred thousand frames as .TGA files and then loading those back in and rendering out to whatever motion CODEC, I am at a loss as to how to get Premiere to leave the whites intact.
I haven't seen this issue discussed in any detail here. Has anyone found a way around it, besides reshooting all your footage of one-time events to sub 100 IRE levels?

I'd rather the camera added that extra lattitide within the appropriate 0 to 100 IRE range.
That's a lot like saying you want 10 gallons of water in an 9-gallon jug.
As it is, it looks like such adjustments will need to be done on a clip by clip basis.
Or, you can do it the "Dan" way in AviSynth. I wrote a script function called SoftLimiter: It applies photoshop-style curves on the Y + U + V channels to bring the maximums within legal range… using a sort-of "soft-knee" approach to reducing extreme highlights and/or oversaturated areas.
It causes a tiny bit of posterization in the highlights, just like all 8-bit per channel color adjustments do… but it is hardly noticeable on a computer screen and even less on TVs.
    SoftLimiter for AviSynth 2.5
Create a folder C:\SoftLimiterCurves\ and place the .amp curves files in that folder.
Place the other files in your AviSynth 2.5 / plugins folder.
The example below assumes DV avi files and requires a DV codec (such as Cecocida DV, MainConcept, Canopus) that can read / write in YUV formats.
    Create a script like this:
    AviSource("dv.avi", pixel_type="YUY2")
    SoftLimiter()
Open the script in VirtualDub, use Video / Fast Recompress, Select Cedocida DV codec. File / Save as .avi
    Before:
    After:
And, Jim… you can place your dv2film() command at the end of this script if that's what you're trying to accomplish.

  • Premiere Pro Media Offline/Crashing Start up.

For some reason I can't get hold of someone to 'chat' to, which is frustrating.
I've used Premiere pro CC for about a year now and I've not had the problem until now. My media goes offline EVERY time I either exit the program or restart the computer with the project I'm working on. I've been solving the problem by signing out of the program and logging back in, closing the application then restarting it.
I've been using After Effects and the problem doesn't occur there, also my media is on a external hard drive however I can't see how that's the issue as I've been using this method for months now.
I've reinstalled Premiere Pro CC however it hasn't solved the issue.
Last night my 'problem solving solution' never worked and the media just wouldn't reconnect and now I can't think of a solution.

  • Premiere CS6 media offline question

Hey folks! Kinda stuck here...I've got a large project using dozens of files (kept on a 4TB hard drive) and about 90% of the media is offline. I can't figure out why some is and some is not. The project uses footage from 3 cameras, multi-cam edits and there are 13 nested sequences, as well. When I go to reconnect the media, the files show up on the hard drive, but it's a Unix Ex. File, not the video files. I am beyond perplexed. Any advice?
    Thanks!

    Could be an OS issue.
What do the files look like in the Finder?
If they display the wrong icon, perhaps cleaning the System Caches with a IceClean or Onyx would help.  Or just run the whole suite of cleanup utilities.
If they only look wrong in Pr, I'd delete the prefs.  If that doesn't help, I'd reinstall Pr.

  • Cs3 media offline constantly

Hey I've read posts on this but I still can't fix my problem. Every time I open my project and I have to re-link (and find) every video clip. I just found all the clips, relinked them and moved them into more organized folders. But I just opened the project and everything is offline. A videographer had the originail clips on his drive and I transferred them to my computer. I didn't have a good organizational system but now that I have all the clips in one folder...how do I keep the files On-Line?
    Thanks for any help.
    Missy

I would move the files one more time, and to a regular folder on an internal HDD. The Desktop Folder has some special attributes, and those can get in the way with some Adobe programs' operations. I like to keep the Desktop folder as clean and lean, as is possible, with ONLY shortcuts. The Desktop Folder can also be used to "hide" some things, like VST's from PrPro, in some cases.
Try creating a Project folder on an internal HDD (ideal would be one other than where the OS and programs are located, say D:\). Then Move the files from the Desktop Folder to that Project folder.
Open the Project, and when PrPro asks, "Where is file ____?" use the Finder to direct PrPro to that folder. It will then link to all Assets in that folder, used in the Project. If you have Assets in multiple sub-folders, then you will need to repeat for each of those folders. When done, do a Save_As, and just increment, or change the Project's name, so that you will know it is the one with the Assets linked on the internal HDD, and will not overwrite the original PRPROJ file, just in case you ever need to go back to that. Test.
Good luck, and hope that the links now remain, and do not get broken.

  • Premiere cs3 media encoder

Can anyone recomend a good output for a video containing video and moving images
H264 is great for video but the moving images look really bad
I need a format that can cope with the two for output on dvd and a file that can be played on a laptop
    I have a pentium 3.4 with 3gb ram
a Radeon x1900 GT Graphics card
    Thanks

    Thanks for the replies
Mpeg 2 is working well at 6 or 8 bit, whats the best profile to use Main or High?
    The film is 720 x 576 pal at 25fps
I have noticed with the exact same output settings one file can be better quality than the other when rendering moving images, I am not sure what is causing this?
I tried 10 bits, the quality was not so good

  • "Media Offline" in Premiere Pro CS3 .. but it's not offline!

If anyone is able to advise on a technical problem in Adobe Premiere Pro (CS3), I'd be most appreciative I'm hoping someone will be around anywhere to help solve this...
    Please look at:
    http://www.thepfjstudios.com.au/images/PremiereProblem.jpg
to understand my issue better. (Img 1440x900, approx 210kb)
In the upper left box are the videos in the project. This issue is with all videos in the project, but for the example, I'm looking at the highlighted video, MOV03C_03.mpg. The thumbnail at the top of the list shows the video is working, I can play it fine by pressing the play button next to the thumbnail.
The same video, MOV03C_03.mpg, is in the timeline at the current point of the cursor. The current timecode is 00:00:55:22 (hh:mm:ss:ff). I don't understand why the monitor on the upper right corner is showing the video (and all videos in the project) as "media offline", when they're all in the project and able to be played, therefore *not* offline.
Is there some way I can fix this? It's for a university project that I'm needing to deliver to our customer this week...

The guy that said "if an Asset appears as Off-line, it is because the Asset IS Off-line" obviously hasn't seen this problem before.
You are absolutely correct here. Most users have not seen this problem before. In my search of these fora, I found only this, and one other thread where this behavior was reported. In all others, the problem came about because of things like Paths changing (external drive letter changes were the most common). There were cases where the Path was changed by Renaming, Moving and Deletion, but only this, and one other instance, where something else intruded.
Now, it appears that you also encountered the issue, so that runs the count up to three. There are possibly others, who have never posted here, but we cannot count them, unless one searches every possible forum on the Internet.
It is good that you have found a way to get around the issue, and thank you for posting that.
I do, however, have a little problem with your attitude. A forum respondent can only comment of problems that they have had, observed from others, or have read about. If few users have encountered this issue, it might seem that it is related to but a few Projects, systems, or users' actions. If it were a universal Bug, it would seem most logical, that many others would have encountered it, and reported it.
You are correct. I have not encountered this problem, and it appears that most other users are in the same exact position. Maybe we do something differently, or our systems and Projects are different enough, that we have just been spared. I am not sure that is a bad thing.
Again, thanks for posting your keystrokes to handle the problem, when it arises. I hope that will help others, when they show up.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I'm trying to import a sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline'

I'm trying to import a previous premiere pro sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline' (it has always worked up until now).  I would be able to relink the clips but the offending ones aren't showing up in the project's clip bin. To make things worse I can't drag and drop the corresponding clips from my finder into the clips bin and then 'replace clip with' in the timeline, as the clips in the project have been renamed, and are synced up to audio (this is a 90 minute feature film).
    Can anyone help??!!

Right click on the offline clips and select Reveal in Project.  This will call up the bin they're in, where you'll be able to relink.

  • Premiere pro cc 2014 black screen or "media offline"

Almost impossible to do much work in Premiere CC 2014. I use 3 machines in business and Premiere doesn't work with any of them for long. I can be editing fine for about an hour then suddenly my program monitor goes black or says media offline. The only way I can get it back is to reboot about 4-5 times before the project will load again. This happens regardless of where the media is stored, what version of Mac OS is used, or what plugins are used. Anybody else experiencing this?

Hey John! Thanks for the help! So far I've encountered the issue on three different macs. Two are stock iMacs so some AMD chip. The third and least problematic is a desktop running a GTX 780 with CUDA 6.0.46. I will have to check on the two iMacs on Monday... I'm updating the Cuda for the desktop to see if that changes anything.

  • Media offline issue in premiere cs6

I recently had my copy of Premiere CS6 fixed due to a handlertitler.dll problem. However, when it was finally fixed there was some playback issues, and about a third of my media is offline. How do I relink the media to where I can hear and see my video on Premiere CS6?

Media Offline is most often caused by the links to it, which are absolute Paths, being changed. It could be a drive letter, a file Rename, or similar.
I agree with Jim, that the best course of action is to let PrPro relink that media, when it asks "Where is file ____ ?" This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4598705#4598705
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if you have not Moved, or Renamed anything, I would definitely check my HDD's, to make sure that they are functioning at 100%.

  • Premiere pro cs6 capture settings/media offline

I'm trying to capture footage from my Sony HDV camera to Premiere pro cs6. After capturing it shows up in my project as an mp3 file and when I transfer to the timeline it says media offline. Can anyone please help?? When I import a file from cs5 project it says media offline also. When I import say an .flv file it works fine. I have matched the capture setting to that of cs5 so I'm rather confused...

To restore default preference settings and plug-in cache at the same time, hold down Shift-Alt (Windows) or Shift-Option (Mac OS) while the application is starting. Release the Shift-Alt keys or Shift-Option key when the splash screen appears.
Try if this works. It is weird that this happens. I have never had it with CS5+/6 both with Win7 and Win8.

  • Media Offline in Premiere Pro CC 8.1

I just downloaded Premiere Pro CC 8.1 and was using CC 7 .1 When I went to convert the project I was working on for the past two Weeks, it would convert and I get the Media Offline warning in the Timeline.
Can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks

    User meant "Media Offline"

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 and Premiere Pro.  If I double click on a project in Windows Explorer to start PP, I also get the "media offline" timeline.  When a relink is attempted, PP either locks up and requires Windows Task Manager to quit or it simply refuses to link to the media, with an error message about the media not having the correct properties or something similar.
After forcing PP to close, I generally get it to work properly the second time.
This doesn't ever happen if I start PP first THEN open a project from the start screen.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Media Encoder question...

    Hi,
I got a question regarding the Premiere Pro CS3 Media Encoder.
I am converting a sequence in Premiere Pro CS3 which contains footage from a '.vob' file which is NTSC, 720x480, 16:9 to a '.flv' file.
Now I'm doing this via Premiere Pro CS3 Media Encoder and it let's me choose the Width & Height but there is no checkbox to keep the proportions - which I find is very, very inconvenient...
So if I wanna convert this to a .flv file which is 400 high, the width should be 600, right ?
Also, there is no way to specify to keep the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Is that done automatically or how/where can I specify it ?
Thanx for your help in advance !
    Mike

If you want 16:9. you need to consider that the lower number should probably be divisible by 72. So, if you want something about 600 wide, I would use 360 for the lower number which gives you a frame size of 640X360
When divisible by 72, it is evenly divisible by both 8, which is great for encoders, and 9, which is the frame ratio you want.
Just choose square pixels and you will be fine.

  • Some Media Offline, and No Sound in Video Export: Premiere Pro & Media Encoder

I have run into a couple problems:
First, sometimes when I try exporting an edited video from premiere, the video shows "Media Offline" even though it plays fine in Premiere. How could I fix this error?
Secondly, when I try exporting a different, longer-in-lenth video from Premiere, it shows NO Sound, despite there being sound in the ProRes file itself.
I tried restarting, clearing the cache and deleting the preferences - and it still isn't working. We also tried re-installing media encoder. I also tried contacting Adobe Support, and they haven't been helpful or responsive (My case number: 0186134420). Anyone know how to solve this one? Thanks!

See the last post and try it:
Media offline when exporting, but media online in PP?
