  • Premiere CS4 Audio Effects Only Work On Latter Half Of Each Audio Clip

I'm currently working with Premiere CS4 on a Windows 7 PC and running into some audio issues when exporting the video. In the timeline when I playback the preview the audio sounds fine but when I export it the audio effects I applied in Premiere only work half the time. Each audio clip will play in it's raw form for a few seconds and then halfway through playing the Premiere audio effects will turn on. I have two audio tracks in my timeline, one for music and the other for narration. There are 10 video tracks in total for various masks, overlays, title, etc.
The sequence has 18 audio clips in total and each one has a separate EQ, Highpass, Volume, and Denoiser effect on it (most are similar but are fine tuned for each clip). So far I've tried exporting as an AVI, MP4, and WMV but each has the same issue. I've also tried exporting with and without the "Use Preview Files" option on the Adobe Media Encoder to no avail.
Has anyone else ever encountered this type of issue before or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Posting for anyone else who comes across this issue:
I was able to fix this by taking all of my audio clips and nesting them in a new sequence, which was then moved to the main sequence. I kept all the effects on their individual clips.

  • Premiere CS4 is only encoding half of the audio

    Ok, I'm basically stuck here.
I export my sequence from Premiere CS4 to Media Encoder and the final encoded video has audio for the first half but then abruptly cuts out and there's only silence after that.
The audio works and sounds fine in the Premiere project. It is mainly audio that was recorded with the video clips but there are also some unlinked music tracks as well. The video clips are a mix of .WMV, .MOV, and .AVI and the audio music clips are .WAVs. I'm currently working on a PC.
I tried re-encoding, restarting the computer and then re-encoding, and nesting the sequence within a new sequence and then re-encoding. The problem still persists though.
This problem is especially confusing because this is the third and final video to be exported from the project and the first two videos exported and encoded perfectly fine without any audio problems. The first two videos also contained a similar mix of video and audio formats.
So, I'm really confused and frustrated with this issue. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Were you able to fix it? Any ideas, solutions, or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    -Ben

    Thanks for the message Hunt.
When I said that the audio cuts out at different times I was referring to exporting the same sequence with no editing. So, when the exact same sequence is exported multiple times the audio will cut out at different points for each exported video. This makes it really hard to pinpoint a specific clip.
Thanks for the ideas about where to look for the problem. I didn't really keyframe the audio at all but there were keyframes on some of the video clips. I was working with Effects a lot but mainly just for video color correction and transitions. I agree about there being a lot of nooks and crannies and it's pretty unfortunate that it has come to checking into all of those.
I agree that AME shouldn't be causing this problem out of "sheer meaness" but I am rather inclined to start referring to AME as the "Adobe Meaness Encoder", ha ha!
FIXED!! Ok, so I figured out a work around which is a little shoddy but seems to do the trick.
-Based on mickkeav's suggestion I updated AME with the 4.0.2 update. I don't know if this solved anything or not because I didn't do an export immediately after updating.
-I exported out the entire sound track from my final sequence as a .WAV and then replaced the original, problematic audio with that new .WAV file. This seemed to solve the problem because the sound now works fine and doesn't cut out at all. The audio still sounds as good as it did originally too.
An earlier, similar solution was to use Quicktime Pro to remove the existing, errored sound track from the video and then add the new and complete .WAV file but this increased the video's file size by 100 mb whereas encoding with the new .WAV track in AME did not increase the video file size at all.
Thanks for the help and hopefully nobody else runs into this problem!

  • Premiere CS4 - Multiple tracks always require rendering regardless

It used to be if you had for instance mutiple tracks and the top track was a DV-AVI file with 100% opacity and no filters, no rendering was required. Now it seems that if you have anything on the lower tracks, even if completely hidden by the top layer, rendering is always required and transcoding takes longer - sometimes considerably depending on what's on the lower layers though not seen. I actually have to completely remove sections of clips on the lower tracks to speed up transcoding. Just more unnecessary work and time.
Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I can not seem to find this precise issue among the slow rendering discussions.
    Bruce B

I hope you've found the answer already, but it sound exactly what I've run into.
My problem was that I upgraded from CS2 and then removed the suite once CS4 was running.
If you have done the same thing, simply reinstall Premiere CS4 and it will work as it did for me.
If not, I don't know what to tell you.
    Good luck,

  • How to Mix Export and Burn  5.1 Surround in Premiere CS4

Ok I'm attempting my first 5.1 mix in Premiere CS4.  I have a couple of basic questions about mixing and exporting in 5.1.
I have created my 5.1 master sequence in premiere and have broken out my 5.1 track to 6 mono audio files.  Right now they are all .wma with a very high bitrate because that's the only format I was able to rip off the Blu-ray disc I'm experimenting with.  I have also learned to change my audio hardware to run off of my Matrox Driver to utilize my hardware for my matrox axio LE.  The end result I'm trying to produce is a 720p 23.967fps H.264 Blu-ray disc with 5.1 sound.
    Questions:
Should I use wma files for audio or something else?  At first I noticed a little bit of a lag in performace before switching my audio hardware to the Matrox Driver.
Do I have to use Dolby Surcode upon export to burn in Encore?  When I first upgraded to premiere CS4 I  used my 3 free encodes while testing our the program, is there any way to get them back?
When importing the Audio into Encore is there anything special I need to do or can I just drop the Dolby 5.1 track onto the timeline as I would normally with at stereo track?

Should I use wma files for audio or something else?
PCM WAV 16 bit stereo @ 48 KHz.

Surcode upon export to burn in Encore?  When I first upgraded to

    No, yes.

  • (Windows) Premiere cs4 with Canon 5D Mark II

I'm seriously considering buying Adobe's Production Premium, but I am extremely concerned about Premiere's support for the files outputted by my Canon 5D Mark II, h264 .mov 1920x1080p 30fps.
I've done a lot of research and it seems as if a lot of folks with a lot more experience, better hardware components and 3rd party software packages haven't been able to find a workflow that is reasonable in terms of effort and time required just to get a project going.
Can anyone give me a reason why I shouldn't seriously consider moving to an Apple solution with FCP Studio over production premium cs4 with premiere and after effects?
    Thanks for your honest opinions!

If you want to stay on PC, would be the main reason.
I dont know how well FCP handles it; but typically fcp converts everything to an intermediate format (pro res)
I am definitely cringing at the thought of ditching all of my PC components (well, I suppose I can re-use the hard-drives at least in the Mac Pro if that's what I get). I do like a lot about windows, and being able to upgrade my stuff to my own liking rather than being stuck in a closed ecosystem. I also game a lot so that's a consideration too.
The way FCP converts the video to Pro Res sounds pretty smart and definitely take the guesswork out.
    Jim Simon
Best one I can think of is that it would be an Apple solution.
The better solution would be to get a real video camera for video production.  While the world of DSMC is rapidly approaching, we're not quite there yet.
    Thanks for your reply, Jim!
I agree making the switch to Apple and Final Cut Studio might not be the best solution.
I cannot really speak to getting a "real" video camera just because Premiere cs4 can't seem to play nicely with the camera I currently have.
I am able to drag and drop 5D Mark II .mov files straight into imovie 6 HD, have it import (40 gb of movies in 4-5 hrs) and then edit away with no delays on a Macbook (non-pro) with no problems whatsoever. Playback, cutting, transitions, effects are silky smooth. Imovie 6 HD came with my Macbook when I bought it in December 2006. Premiere Pro came out last year didn't it? What gives?
There are people making some "real" good stuff out there with this camera and I love its ability to use all of my Canon lenses (four), high capacity memory cards (ranging from 8gb to 32gb) and camera batteries that I already have. Buying a new, but "real", camera would mean learning a whole new camera system not to mention having to buy all of the accessories, lenses, batteries, memory cards (a Panasonic P2 16gb alone is $800 USD) and carrying all that extra stuff around. If I'm on vacation for instance every morning I would have to make the decision of carting around either the still camera or the video camera instead of just bringing something that could do it both, and potentially miss either a once in a lifetime still or video.
I'm a photographer by trade but I'm getting into video production because I feel like I will need video editing/production skills in the future or I'll be left in the dust. That isn't the only reason of course - I've always wanted to shoot video but couldn't afford or justify a quality camera until now.
Jim why do you prefer Premiere to Final Cut Pro on the Mac?
    Thanks again for replying.

  • Adobe soundbooth cs4 hangs when called from premiere cs4 in windows 7 64 bit

Whenever I try to edit a soundfile from within premiere cs4 Soundbooth starts and then hangs on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine; works fine in XP pro.

I discovered the problem only occurs once I try to open an mp3 file in Soundbooth CS4 from within Premiere CS4 and Sounddbooth is not already running.
If I open Soundbooth before I try to open an mp3 or any sound file in Soundbooth CS4 from within Premiere CS4 then there are no problems.  So the workaround is easy: start Soundbooth before I try to edit soundfiles form within Premiere.
Question: are you using 64 bit Windows 7?

  • Where to find Premiere CS4 Crash log?

    Hi,
I've been running Premiere CS4 on Windows XP x64 for the past several months without any problems.  A couple of days ago, I suddenly started getting a crash window whenever I would start up Premiere (during the splash screen loading).  I accidentally clicked on the "do not display again" option in the window, so the window has since disappeared and no longer shows up.
I have tried uninstalling CS4 completely, and reinstalling the entire suite, but I still have the same problem.  Furthermore, the crash report screen still doesn't display anymore.
I am starting to get quite frustrated at this point.  I am not sure where to look for a crash log and/or how to figure out / pinpoint what might be causing the error.
I am running XP x64 SP2 with all the latest patches enabled.
Other CS4 apps (ie: photoshop, encore, etc), work fine.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction?  I've tried searching the web to see if there is a way to reenable this crash report window and/or to find any pertinent log files, but can't seem to find anything.
I've already read through http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405950.html and tried out most of the suggestions to no avail.
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have wasted hours trying to figure this out on my own but am just spinning my wheels at this point.
    Thanks!
    Eric

That is the reason we advise never installing codec packs, since it is often utter h*ll to get rid of them again, leaving the only option for the non-expert registry wizards to reinstall OS & programs. Usually a faster and better way to repair things. I don't think it is fair to blame that on Adobe, especially since you aggravated things by using an unsupported OS to start with.
Fair enough, however, everything I have read about XP64 and CS4 is that it isn't officially supported, however, should work fine.  And true to form, it does/did work fine.  Until I messed things up.
I guess it is the lack of debugging tools and the length of time that it takes to install/uninstall CS4 that is making this process so utterly painful.  If there would be better tools and/or documentation for fixing a hole that you have dug yourself into, it would make things so much better.
I love Adobe products, but they have a history of poking around in obscure places in the OS that is intentionally undocumented, for example activation information, serial information, etc.  They have only recently (in the last couple of years) started providing tools (ie: CS4clean script) to help clean up faulty/defective installs.  However, even those don't seem to work perfectly.  I already uninstalled CS4 and ran the clean script.  Yet after reinstalling, my crash window no longer gets displayed in my original profile.  Which indicates to me that there are still some setting lurking around somewhere in the system that Adobe hasn't documented.
Now I completely understand Adobe's need to do this in order to protect its IP and software and business model.  Where they fall short, however, is providing tools to help the user determine what is wrong, faulty, defective in their system in order to be able to successfully (re)install the application.
My case is a prime example.  If there was a way to enable a "safe mode" of sorts, or a logger that indicates exactly which files were being loaded/accessed, it would go a long way to help determine what gremlin is still lurking in the PC.  Without such tools, it becomes incredibly arduous guessing constantly.  Add to the fact that every "guess" that includes and installation takes 1-2 hours to complete, and the frustration levels start to increase.
That being said, I have yet-again just launched the uninstallation of CS4.  Will run the clean script again afterwards, reboot, and reinstall and keep my fingers crossed.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Premiere CS4 Quick render

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Premiere CS4
    Ram 6MB
    Working with 1920x1080 footage
    Gentlemen !
I am working on a 5 mnis song , each time I send it to AME to render or export to AME it takes atleast 5 to 6 hours to render, Obviuosly I try to stay native with my output file, but sometimes I choose DV NTSC for the output file.
My question is, is there any way to choose a different format for output file, that would take less time to render ? I mean just to check my colors and effects and etc.
What i mean by that is ,my system is not that powerful to handle HD footage very well, so I have to render my footage so I can check all effects and etc.

About if I change the output file's size to a smaller size ?
the prob with that is that you're still dealing with your original asset(s) ( video) and now compressing it and downscaling it etc, and the program has to work pretty hard to do all those calculations and make the product...( like h264 or wmv or whatever )
so its still the same problem re: strain on your computer stuff and time involved....plus you wont know for sure if that "translation" is gonna be as good product re: transistions etc...
lets say you have effects that need the program to "tween" frames..create frames in between your original frames...well....in the math etc and compression algorithyms ( sp? ) that makes that happen from one codec to another is different...and maybe your "color" and overall quality wont give you an " honest" translation compared to if you just export for your final product ( the high res ). Plus, to do the downscaling and so on is actually MORE of a strain on resources maybe...its not a given that by making it smaller it is gonna take less time to export...might take LONGER
know what I mean?  it might be close and good enough for what you want to do with your particular output...but I wouldnt trust it myself if I had to give it to someone and stand by it ...
so youre stuck with long exports is what it sounds like, and thank goodness you can even get THAT done !

  • Premiere CS4 doesn't work properly with Windows 7 trial - Please help!

    Hello!
I have installed the trial version of Windows 7 on my laptop and now my Premiere CS4 doesn't play the timeline in real time anymore. It worked fine with Windows Vista. I have also installed the newest Premiere update, but it didn't help. Is there a patch for Windows 7 (64bit) or will I have to wait until the full version comes out and try it again then?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Rafiki

It's a laptop and probably an older one, that means it is probably underpowered.
It's a laptop and that probably means it is a single 5400 rpm disk which is inadequate.
    Bill,
Probably good observations. I tend to loose sight of the fact that most laptops are not like mine and forget the common limitations. One mentions "laptop," and I see my Sager - duh! on me.
To the OP, this ARTICLE might also offer some tips on getting your computer ready for an NLE session. Common references are to how things are done in XP-Pro (my OS), but you should be able to "read between the lines," and adapt the general concepts to Win7 and your setup.
Also, giving full specs. on your laptop might help greatly, otherwise we're all just guessing. Bill brings up a couple of critical points. Your details will either point to them, or dismiss them.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere CS4 Renders incorrectly

I am having issues with rendering is Premiere CS4. Everytime I import files (png, gif, swf) and try to render them they are distorted.  I pay close attention to match the original file settings in my presets and have used the interpret footage option and that doesn't either. I am using a custom setting with a square pixel ratio and 24 fps.  Any ideas?

    JSS1138 wrote:
I guess the point I was trying to make is that you don't edit swf files.  You create them when you're done editing standard camera media.
I agree.  Is there a reason for using swfs?  Are you creating some animation effects in Flash or are you using swf sources that you didn't create yourself?
Do the images look distorted in Premiere or is it just when you export?  If it's just when you export it sounds like the export has different aspect ratio settings than your project.  Check to make sure all of your export settings match your project (Especially Frame size and Pixel aspect ratio).
I usually try to use 32-bit targa files for still images or a Photoshop .psd file since both can retain the alpha information.  JPEGs work well also, but can't hold alpha info.  Can you bring some of your images into Photoshop, convert them and see if that helps?

  • Premiere CS4 freezing with ATI 4850

    My system:
    Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz
    EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX X58 SLI
    Corsair 750W PSU
    6GB DDR3
and I've upgraded from a Geforce 7800GT to an ATI XFX Radeon HD 4850.
Adobe Premiere CS4 freezes after a minute or so of playback with my ATI HD 4850.  The screen literally freezes and I have no choice but to force a reboot.  On my Geforce 7800GT, the playback is laggy/unresponsive but it never froze.
I've sent it in to XFX for repair previously because it wouldn't play back any HD video files. But now everything plays fine except playback in Adobe Premiere. XFX even sent me a benchmark test for Devil May Cry and because my computer passed, they refuse to RMA the card again.
    I've tried EVERYTHING!
    - Several different versions of the drivers: 10.4,10.3,9.11, all with no luck.
    - Enable ATI Overdrive: when I auto-tuned it, it immediately crashed my computer and would do so consistently upon start-up so I had to disable it.
Any advice/comments/feedback would be greatly appreciated.
This is my second ever ATI card and I must say I've been very disappointed.  I have never been able to have one work 100% for even a full 24 hours!!!

I had issues with my Radeon 4670, similar but not quite the same as yours. In my case, rolling back drivers to 9.11 was the solution, but it sounds like you've already attempted that. If that hasn't solved the problem, and you're only seeing the issue after a minute or so of running PPro (my issue revealed itself immediately), I would look at a cooling/overheating problem. The newer GPUs (even though the 4000 series isn't that new) run hot even when they're not doing anything, and once you put them under any sort of load, the temperatures skyrocket. And since yours crashes during the auto-tuning, this lends more creedence to this theory; I was able to clock mine all the way up, but it's got a big honkin' aftermarket cooler on it.
I'm assuming you didn't send your whole PC in when you RMA'ed the card, so, 1) you don't know what kind of setup they tested the card in and 2) you don't know if they tested the card at all. For all practical purposes, this card should work "fine" with CS4, so the likelihood increases that there is some sort of physical defect with the card or cooling. Other folks here have a better grasp of the hardware and how to get the most from it (I'm more of a plug-it-in-and-hope-it-works kind of guy), so they might be able to tell you some ways to test the card and check its operating temperatures.

  • Rendering Freeze in Premiere CS4

I had a DV 24P project go into what I call "rendering freeze" - it opens up the render box, but then does nothing. It will simply sit there for hours if I let it, but I can escape out of it at any time. The project was a CS3 import that is 95% done, and my deadline isn't until March, so I set it aside for more pressing work. I'm on Vista Ultimate and CS4 has been rock solid for me on multiple projects, from scratch and CS3 imports.
(under "render details" it shows the start time correctly, but both the "time elapsed" and "free disk space" fields are blank)
Tonight I started a new 1080 HD1080P 24 project, and a few renders into it the same thing happened. I thought this would be a good opportunity for troubleshooting, since I had little time invested into the project.
I tried deleting effects, tracks, then assets, and finally everything to see if I could get a render to work. Dead. I tried opening a new sequence and importing a simple jpg as an asset. Same problem. I tried it over again using DV and other sequence timelines to see if it was format dependent. The freeze seemed to be project independent.
I started over with a new project using the same format, assets, and effect, duplicating the same steps as as closely as possible, and rendering continues to work fine - and I'm much further into the project. This has me scared to death that my DV project (the one that is 95% done) is nearly useless (the 5% left to do is all detail work and must be rendered to check edits).
Has anyone else had this problem?

I hope you've found the answer already, but it sound exactly what I've run into.
My problem was that I upgraded from CS2 and then removed the suite once CS4 was running.
If you have done the same thing, simply reinstall Premiere CS4 and it will work as it did for me.
If not, I don't know what to tell you.
    Good luck,
    Dan

  • Premiere CS4 looses its memory

My Premiere CS4 (4.1.0.) sometimes looses its "memory" of the last opened project - meaning that at the opening screen, when usualy the last project is offered to be opened again, there are no projects anymore. So I have to go over the button "open project". That wouldn't be a big deal but there are other things which are lost too, as example the keyboard settings and sometimes some already used files were be analyzed newly (e.g. mp3 files).
Has anyone any idea what could be the cause of this behaviour? Strangely the phenomenon does not always occur but I have not find out yet, when it occurs and when not. Any idea?
    Thanks for your help!
    PS: working with vista64bit, SP2, working on a WD-Velociraptor-system-HD and my projects on a RAID-10 with 4 HD, 8GB DDR-2 RAM, CPU Quad9550

Thanks everybody for your help and your suggestions.
@Jeff - no, I'm always logged in with the same account - and I'm also the only user on the machine - so I don't think this is the reason.
@AndreyV - possible, but as far as I know, I don't have any cleaning tools working in the background
@ the_wine_snob - I don't think, that it's a problem of Windows, because all other applications run properly - the last opened word and excel documents are always remembered normaly, so I think...
@SFL46' suggestion could be the cause of my problem  - in fact I do have the folder "my documents" (and in it the PP.prproj-files) at a diffrent location than Windows Vista usually puts it. I moved it to my RAID-drives (instead of the system drive c where usually the "user"-folders are located). I never had any problems with PP CS3 or the earlier versions, but that could be the reason of this behaviour (specially because PP doesn't always looses the last opened documents). I will move the prproj-files to the user-folder on the system drive and will report my experience here.
    Thanks!
    Phil
