Premiere CS4 Crashes From Photoshop?

Hi,
I have a few photoshop files in my Premiere Pro CS4 timeline. If I open the photoshop file from Premiere, and then change and save the file in Photoshop, Premiere Pro will become unresponsive ("Not Responding", I'm on Windows 7), and I'll have to force quit Premiere.
Is there a way to make it stop crashing? If it's any help, I've already figured out that it will only crash if the file is in the timeline.
Thanks,
--Saib

I think it is better to do your photo editing/sizing before you bring the picture into Premiere

  • Where to find Premiere CS4 Crash log?

    Hi,
    I've been running Premiere CS4 on Windows XP x64 for the past several months without any problems.  A couple of days ago, I suddenly started getting a crash window whenever I would start up Premiere (during the splash screen loading).  I accidentally clicked on the "do not display again" option in the window, so the window has since disappeared and no longer shows up.
    I have tried uninstalling CS4 completely, and reinstalling the entire suite, but I still have the same problem.  Furthermore, the crash report screen still doesn't display anymore.
    I am starting to get quite frustrated at this point.  I am not sure where to look for a crash log and/or how to figure out / pinpoint what might be causing the error.
    I am running XP x64 SP2 with all the latest patches enabled.
    Other CS4 apps (ie: photoshop, encore, etc), work fine.
    Can anyone help point me in the right direction?  I've tried searching the web to see if there is a way to reenable this crash report window and/or to find any pertinent log files, but can't seem to find anything.
    I've already read through http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405950.html and tried out most of the suggestions to no avail.
    Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have wasted hours trying to figure this out on my own but am just spinning my wheels at this point.
    Thanks!
    Eric

    That is the reason we advise never installing codec packs, since it is often utter h*ll to get rid of them again, leaving the only option for the non-expert registry wizards to reinstall OS & programs. Usually a faster and better way to repair things. I don't think it is fair to blame that on Adobe, especially since you aggravated things by using an unsupported OS to start with.
    Fair enough, however, everything I have read about XP64 and CS4 is that it isn't officially supported, however, should work fine.  And true to form, it does/did work fine.  Until I messed things up.
    I guess it is the lack of debugging tools and the length of time that it takes to install/uninstall CS4 that is making this process so utterly painful.  If there would be better tools and/or documentation for fixing a hole that you have dug yourself into, it would make things so much better.
    I love Adobe products, but they have a history of poking around in obscure places in the OS that is intentionally undocumented, for example activation information, serial information, etc.  They have only recently (in the last couple of years) started providing tools (ie: CS4clean script) to help clean up faulty/defective installs.  However, even those don't seem to work perfectly.  I already uninstalled CS4 and ran the clean script.  Yet after reinstalling, my crash window no longer gets displayed in my original profile.  Which indicates to me that there are still some setting lurking around somewhere in the system that Adobe hasn't documented.
    Now I completely understand Adobe's need to do this in order to protect its IP and software and business model.  Where they fall short, however, is providing tools to help the user determine what is wrong, faulty, defective in their system in order to be able to successfully (re)install the application.
    My case is a prime example.  If there was a way to enable a "safe mode" of sorts, or a logger that indicates exactly which files were being loaded/accessed, it would go a long way to help determine what gremlin is still lurking in the PC.  Without such tools, it becomes incredibly arduous guessing constantly.  Add to the fact that every "guess" that includes and installation takes 1-2 hours to complete, and the frustration levels start to increase.
    That being said, I have yet-again just launched the uninstallation of CS4.  Will run the clean script again afterwards, reboot, and reinstall and keep my fingers crossed.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Premiere CS4 crashing when timeline opened

    Everytime I open a timeline in Premiere CS4 it crashes on me.. does this happen to any
    one else?

    Hi,
    This link shows about 5 incidents of your problem in a forum...short little posts about the same problem...
    As you can see ( only takes a sec to read them )  there are a number of different " solutions" to each posters problem...
    http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/adobe-creative-suite/470416-premiere-cs-4-crashes.html
    That includes ( as you can see ) a bad memory chip, not having the latest video card driver, dynamically linked assets, re-install of Operating system, etc..
    It gives you a good idea how it is very helpful to supply as much info as possible...

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Crashes After Photoshop edit.................

    hi,
    whenever i edit and save a .psd file from my timeline premiere crashes in the middle of updating the .psd file... can anyone help?
    thnaks
    Kb

    Deacon,
    Along with the DirectX update, did you install anything else?
    After your installation of the DirectX update, did you also update your video and your audio drivers? If not, that would be my first thing to try. Both of those drivers can be rendered obsolete in a heartbeat, and because PrPro interfaces more closely with those, than nearly any other program, it will fail, while simple players, etc. still function.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere CS4 crashes/freezes upon File Export Media click

    My system:
    CS4 master collection. I have some remnants of CS3 on my computer.
    4 Gig RAM
    Quad Core processor
    Vista
    My problem:
    Problem started yesterday and I've tried a lot of things but can't figure this out. When I click File>Export>Media, premiere greys out most panels and nothing can be clicked. It gives a beep of death on every click. I need to use task manager to close premiere. The only thing I've found I am able to do is click escape, which returns me to my project as if nothing has happened.
    I've tried a range of different projects, including a brand new one with nothing in it except a 10 second DV avi file. Same problem across the board.
    I've reinstalled CS4 Master collection but didn't uninstall it first. No change. Would it help to uninstall everything and start from scratch?
    Never had this problem before.
    It also does the same thing on file>export>clipnotes but I CAN export an EDL.
    The only change to my PC between this not happening and it happening was I installed the new music streaming software 'Spotify'. I have since uninstalled this but it hasn't fixed it.
    If anyone has any ideas, I'd be hugely grateful.
    Ed

    Hey Ed, I had replied earlier in the other thread you posted in and just noticed you started a new topic here, so, copied from the other thread:
    I had something similar happen to me a few times... if the escape key is taking you back to premiere and returning everything to normal, then your computer is not really hanging or crashing. What most likely is happening is that Premiere is opening a dialog box OFF SCREEN, so you just can't see it or click on it to attend to what it's asking. Hitting escape is like hitting cancel, which returns you to your project.
    To fix: just mess around with your monitor setups in your display panel, ie.: if you have a dual monitor setup, temporarily disable one monitor - forcing everything to open on one screen. And/Or set your screen resolution to the maximum your video card allows so that you may uncover the off screen space the dialog opens on. OR... you're video card may have a control panel with the option of forcing all windows onto one screen or preventing off screen display. Basically do whatever it takes to get a view of off your screen.
    Once you discover that missing window, make sure you move it onto your primary display, somewhere in the center, and the next time you try to encode it should be right where it should be.
    Good luck.

  • CS5 SDK + AME CS4 = Crash from bad memorySuite

    Hi all,
    I compiled the CS5 SDK_Exporter example and only changed one thing:
         1:     the build from x64 to x86     (because I'm on Win7 32bit with CS4 Production Premium)
         BTW the enviroment variable $(PREMSDKBUILDPATH) is set to points to
              C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS4\Plug-ins\Common\SDK
    Then I started to debug the debug|x86 build and invoked it by running AME by setting the Debugging->Command argument to
              C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS4\Adobe Media Encoder.exe
    When I run it, add a video and then change the exporter to "SDK File" it then calls the exSDKBeginInstance( )
    prMALError exSDKBeginInstance (
    exportStdParms *stdParmsP,
    exExporterInstanceRec *instanceRecP)
    prMALError result = malNoError;
    SPErr spError = kSPNoError;
    ExportSettings *mySettings;
    PrSDKMemoryManagerSuite *memorySuite;
    int exportSettingsSize = sizeof(ExportSettings);
    SPBasicSuite *spBasic = stdParmsP->getSPBasicSuite();
    if (spBasic != NULL)
    spError = spBasic->AcquireSuite(
    kPrSDKMemoryManagerSuite,
    kPrSDKMemoryManagerSuiteVersion,
    const_cast<const void**>(reinterpret_cast<void**>(&memorySuite)));         <<<<<<------ THIS memoryStuite isn't set
    >>>>> THUS THE NEXT LINE CRASHES BECAUSE memorySuite==0
    mySettings = reinterpret_cast<ExportSettings *>(memorySuite->NewPtrClear(exportSettingsSize));
    Why is using the CS5 headers breaking the CS4 applications?

    Hi Zac, et al.
    I modified the API call to call "kPrSDKMemoryManagerSuiteVersion2" instead of "kPrSDKMemoryManagerSuiteVersion" when using SDK CS5 and it still errored.
    I also tried using "kPrSDKMemoryManagerSuiteVersion1" (which started in the CS3) using the CS4 SDK and it didn't work either.
    I couldn't see in the headers that the API to the MemorySuite had changed so I'm at a loss as to why I couldn't use v2 with the CS5 SDK or v1 with the CS4 SDK on AME CS4.
    CS4 with it's (native) v2 MemorySuite is running fine.

  • Premiere CS4 crashes after installing Quicktime 7

    I reinstalled the CS4 package after having some unexplainable problems, one of which was Quicktime crashes.
    I did the clean install, with the Microsoft cleanup utility and all that.
    It ran just fine.
    Then I did the 4.2.1 update and everything was running great.
    Then, I installed Quicktime directly from a freshly downloaded inst aller from Quicktime.com
    After this, as soon as I open a Premiere project, even a new, empty project, it crashes immediately.
    Anybody else having this experience?

    Now that everything is working, You should buy software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... which makes restoring very easy
    The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
    Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive and not have to re-install anything
    Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

  • Premiere CS4 Crashes when rendering audio

    This is the first time I have encountered this issue.  I am working on a nested 4 camera sequence and have performed a multicamera edit.  I have been cutting the multicamera timeline for a couple of weeks now and today I had a issue where I was rendering the audio on the multicamera timeline and premiere crashed.  The computer crashes every time I render the audio or shortly afterwards.  If it makes it through the render the program crashes soon after when I am scrubbing through the audio.  No specific error just "Premiere Pro has encountered and error and needs to close"  I've tried deleting the rendered files then recreating them.  I've tried replacing the audio layer 1 from the source sequence with a new .wav then rendering the audio in the multicamera sequence but neither has worked.  I also tried starting a new project and importing the multicamera project into the new project I had just created but I still could not render the audio.  Now I'm wondering if one of my clips within the project is causing a problem but I don't know how to go about testing this theory other than deleting each audio asset one at a time from audio layer 1 of the source sequence timeline, then attempt to render my nested multicamera sequence.
    Anyone ever have this problem before?  It's driving me crazy!

    Thanks, that is a good option.  I was able to find and remove two clips on the raw footage timeline that seemed to be causing rendering problems.  I have not had any crashes since.  If I do, I will use your advice.

  • Illustrator CS4 crashes when Photoshop is open

    Hi, I have a problem with Illustrator CS4. Whenever I have Photoshop CS4 open at the same time as it, the program crashes completely, giving no error message to indicate why.
    It runs totally fine as long as Photoshop isn't already open, or as long as you don't open Photoshop while it is still running. This is a nightmare when I want to draw certain things in Illustrator and then copy them over to Photoshop.
    Anyone else experienced this or have any idea how to fix it?
    My system specs:
    Intel Core 2 Quad CPU [email protected]
    3.5gb Ram
    XP service pack 3

    Opened up task manager as suggested before opening the programs, and noticed there were more processes running than expected. I ran Spybot Search & Destroy which seems to have picked up a few things ad-aware hadn't, and following a reset, the problem now seems to have disappeared.
    Hopefully this is what was causing the problem and it isn't just pure chance that it is working ok for now...
    Cheers for the suggestions

  • Premiere cs4 crashes when opening premiere 6 file

    hi y'all,
    I'm trying to open quite a complex premiere 6 project (quite a few video tracks in it) with cs4 and it crashes everytime. i even tried to create a new project and import the p6 project but it still crashed.
    the weird thing is that i have another, much simpler p6 project (only 1 video track and hardly any effects) that has no problem opening on cs4, and everything is imported properly over there.
    any idea how to solve it? maybe there's an old component that makes importing troubles? I appreciate any help...
    thanks,
    Asaf

    Not a fix, but a reflection on doing similar with great success.
    I inherited a Pr 6.5 Project done on a Mac. I needed to get it into PrPro 2.0 on a PC. The Project was about 8 hours on 16 Sequences with thousands of Assets of various formats. After I added the correct file extension to the Mac Project file (.PRJ, or similar - I forget now), I just Opened it in PrPro 2.0. First, I did have to relocate most Assets, as the drive letters had now changed. Fine. Next, just before it Opened, I got a couple of error messages. These all related to Transitions. In two cases, there were Transitions used initially, that did not exist in PrPro 2.0 (on the PC), and the messages gave me the exact Sequence and also the TimeCode location of these two - neat! I made note of these. Next, there were a couple of 3rd party Transitions, that I did not have. Same dialog screen, with the exact spots that these were used. Again, notations made. I went to those spots, added Cross-Dissolves in place of the missing Transitions, and everything was perfect. I was amazed at how well it worked.
    Remember, this was a Pr 6.5 (Mac) into PrPro 2.0 (PC), but it was a monster in all respects. You've got Pr 6.0 into CS4, so there are differences. Also, there could be aspects of and elements in the Pr 6.0 Project, that just do not exist in CS4. Instead of PrPro being able to give you that dialog, it might just be choking. Maybe I just got lucky that I only had a half-dozen missing Transitions. Had there been missing Effects, etc., maybe I would have gotten those crashes too.
    Now, let's look at what might be getting in the way:
    Could be Transitions, or Effects, and those would be unique to this Pr 6.0 Project - possibly the only "fix" would be to Open in Pr 6.0 and make changes. Probably not an easy option.
    Could be the size. How does your computer do with Projects of similar sizes? Have you had big ones crash CS4, though they were CS4 Projects? If it's a computer issue, maybe this ARTICLE will give you some useful tips.
    Could be something wrong with the Pr 6.0 Project - corruption? If Open is crashing, can you try an Import into a CS4 Project?
    Wish that I had experience with your exact parameters, and could offer something concrete, but there are so many variables, between what I have experienced, and what you are faced with.
    Good luck, and please let us know what you discover,
    Hunt

  • Premiere CS4 crashes with MXF XDCAM files

    I have MXF files coming from MP4 XDCAM EX files (converted with Sony EX Browser) and MOV XDCAM EX files (converted with Convergent Design File Converter) both from JVC HM700. Premiere imports all files and if I have a simple timeline it works fine. As soon as the timeline gets longer Premiere stucks and eventually crashes.
    Any idea?

    I use Clip Browser to convert footage done in MP4 but also Convergent Design's File Converter 1.3 to convert footage shot in MOV.
    in Premiere on MAC both MXFs work fine is just that in long (over 15-20 minutes) projects and where there are 2 levels of timeline (I'm sincing the 2cameras) or when I do a simple scale effect (to see the level underneath) everything stucks, get very slow and eventually crashes.
    Actually a single MXF file plays better than a MOV XDCAM file and almost the same than a MP4 XDCAM file.. but as I said.. when it gets to handle many together.. things don't work so good anymore
