Premiere CS4 - how to duplicate left audio channel to right

I am editing old footage in which the audio signal is on the left channel only - the right channel is empty. I want to duplicate the left channel on the right so the sound comes out of both speakers. In Premiere 2.0 this was easy: right-click on a clip, choose audio options, then 'Duplicate left', and that was it. I can't figure out how to do the same thing in CS4.

FAQ:How do I create mono/stereo out of stereo/mono audio?
Cheers

I do not see a way to separate audio channels to edit them separately in Premiere Elements (any version).
Premiere Elements does have audio effects including Balance, Fill Right/Fill Left, and Swap channels, but that is not what you are seeking.
I would refer you to an audio editor such as the free Audacity for what you want to do.
Splitting and Joining Stereo Tracks - Audacity Manual
I am not sure if this is close to what you seek

But, the opportunity seems to be in Premiere Pro, not Premiere Elements
Please review and consider and then let me your thinking on the matter relating to your Premiere Elements 12 (what operating system).
    Thanks.

  • Garbled left audio channel in MuVu Mi

When I attempt to play back MP3's with my MuVu N200, the left audio channel is completely garbled almost beyond recognition. This only affects music, not recorded wav's or radio signals.
I've tried formatting it, tried different files, different bitrate files, and I still have the same trouble. I've even moved files back onto my computer, and they sounded great.
Is there any known trouble with MP3 decoding?

Actually, eh, it was fine until I updated the firmware.
I'd go back to the OEM defaults (I really don't think I'll use it to play WMA files), but I can't find it anywhere on Creative's website.

  • IMovie App Only Exporting Left Audio Channel

Dunno what's up with this. My iPod takes video just fine, with stereo audio. When I export anything from the iMovie app, however, just the left audio channel is active.
    Known bug? What's up?

yes, you are not the only one with this problem. I think we have to wait for another update sadly . But strange thing is, one of my projects successfully exported both channels, left and right. Trying to find the difference between these projects but currently I can't find any.

    Thanks

have you tried to insert the jack like 30 times?
I have dont that on older devices with good luck
if that dont work then maybe replace that part and many are on ebay if you device is out of warranty

  • Losing left audio channel

My touch has almost completely lost the left audio channel, via the headphone jack. I can sometimes get a signal if I play with the connection. But more often than not, it's out. I thought it might be a problem with my headphones, so I bought a new pair, but the problem is still there. The problem is also there when I play music from my touch on my car stereo.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You have lost the Left Audio Channel when using the headphone jack. From the details provided by you, it appears that you have a hardware issue.
You can try performing a RESET and/or a RESTORE by following instructions [*_Listed Here*|http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/#section2]. (Note that if you perform a RESTORE then you will loose all data and will need to reload).
If neither of the above solves the issue then you will need to send the iPod Touch for service or take it an Apple store for evaluation and possible repair.

  • Premiere CS4 - How can you import QuickTime (.mov) videos and which settings for the sequence?

    Premiere CS4
How can you import QuickTime (.mov) videos and which settings for the sequence?
Please reply in plain English or if possible in German
    Greetings from Vienna, Peter

    I have not installed Quicktime.
I got a few scenes (.mov) from a Canon Eos 70d.
I want to create a short film (in Premiere CS4) with these scenes, mixed with photos and MP3 music.

  • Premiere CS4 effect switch for each video channel

    Premiere CS4
    Windows
    Gentlemen !
Does anyone know if there is a Master Effect Switch for each individual video channel
What I am saying is, is there any way to turn Off or On the effect for each individual video channel
Let's say I wanna turn Off all video effects for video channel 1
Just similar to the icon of the eye or lock for each channel
I have about 40 clips on channel one's timeline , I wanna turn all effect Off for a minute, check something the turn it back On !
    Thanks

With the Nested Sequences, turning thing OFF for performance would be easy, but Nesting does take some additional Resources.
For a Feature Request, see this LINK.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
BTW - some Effects hardly seem to slow things down, while some are quite resource heavy. For playback, Rendering the Timeline normally makes things very smooth, at the expense of the time to Render.

  • How to capture two audio channels on seperate tracks?

Does anybody know how to get audio from two or more channels on seperate tracks when capturing in Premier pro!
I have used two mics, but the audio is on the same track when i have capturede the video. Any suggestions?

Highlight the clip in the Project window and then Clip - Audio Options - Breakout to Mono.
You will get two mono tracks as separate files in the project window but they won't be linked to the video clip

  • Compressor only exporting left audio channel in AIFF! Please help!!

Hi, I just realized that the files that I have been exporting using compressor have been only exporting the left channel of audio. I am not sure what the problem is and would appreciate any help anyone could give me, as I'm on a big deadline and need to solve this ASAP.
The way I've been doing it, is I right click on the sequence name in Final Cut Pro and select Export > Export Using Compressor. Then I selected the DVD Best Quality 90 Minutes option. The AIFF file that is created seems to only have audio in the left channel. The original files themselves are definitely stereo, and play both channels in Final Cut.
I really don't understand. The Inspector within Compressor shows this information for the AIFF file:
    File Extension: aiff
    Estimated file size: unknown
Audio Encoder: 16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
It says Stereo, so I don't know what the problem is! Please help!!!

    Glad I could help.
Sorry for being a bit unclear, and actually misguiding you a bit on the reference files. Reference files are referring to the original media/render files. As long as you do not change the actual media/render files, you should be able to do changes to your FCP project. If you have not rendered before you export a QuickTime Movie reference file of your sequence, it will render on the fly and put the render files inside the reference file with the audio.
I would recommend reading more about self-contained files and reference files in the Final Cut Pro User Manual -> Volume IV -> Part III -> Exporting QuickTime Movies -> Choosng the Type of QuickTime Movie to Export
    From the manual:
Choosing the Type of QuickTime Movie to Export
You can create two kinds of QuickTime movies with the Export QuickTime Movie command—a self-contained movie or a reference movie.
Self-contained movie: A self-contained movie contains the video and audio media— all of the data used to create your movie is within a single file. This single file can be safely and easily copied to another computer without worrying that you need other files to play it back.
Reference movie: A reference movie is a very small file that contains pointers, or references, to all of the captured clips used in your sequence. The actual media is located in the original media files. If you rendered your transitions and effects before creating the reference movie, then there are pointers to your render files as well. Otherwise, all of your transitions and effects are rendered using the current level of compression, and then embedded inside the resulting reference movie, increasing its size. All audio tracks, mixing levels, cross fades, and audio filters are rendered and the resulting stereo or mono audio tracks are embedded in the reference movie.
Exporting a reference movie saves time, since you don’t have to wait for every frame of your edited sequence to be duplicated. It also saves hard disk space, since pointers to other files require little space. Reference movies are particularly useful when outputting your sequence for compression using a third-party compression utility.
However, reference movies are not very useful as a means of delivering video files to other people. If you give someone a reference movie, you must also give them the original video files associated with that movie, which can be complicated since you may not know where all the referenced media is stored on disk.
In general, exporting reference movies increases the risk that the movie may not play back. Reference movies are best used when you have short-term uses for the exported movie file, and you only plan to use them on the system you exported them to.

  • Strange echo in left audio channel

just got my new imac today after my old imac G5 pooped out on me. when using the headphone jack (which i do often) the left channel has a strange echo or kind of a "tracer" i guess, like a space sound in a cartoon. anyone else have this happen or is this just a freak defect? i really dont want to wait to get a new one shipped.

    Hi joneskoff
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    1. Open and close the GarageBand Application to reset your Audio MIDI setup.
    2. Make sure the jack is fully inserted.
    3. Try a different set of Headphones or a different cord if your using an External Audio Device.
    4. If all the above fail to clear up the sound, you should return it for a replacement now.

  • Broadcast safe blacks and whites - Premiere CS4 - How to get?

Hi. I recently had a fellow editor over and he saw some of my footage and mentioned that my whites were too bright and to make sure that they were broadcast safe before exporting them. He didn't know how to do it in Premiere as he uses Final Cut. He said that Final Cut does it automatically. Does Premiere Pro do it Automatically?
After mentionng it to me, I did notice that my whites were quite bright. Below are some examples.
These are two frames taken from the timeline of a sequnce which had already been exported as an AVI.
Here is some information about the system I use:
Once I found out how to do it, is there a way I could quickly apply this to a whole sequence of clips? Do i need to play around with it for each individual clip?

yes, the tv and computer monitor will look different...probably why you thought the whites were OK when editing on computer.
I use CS3 so your version may be slightly different ....
im gonna put up some images to illustrate...
you can use broadcast colors (effect )...drag onto clip ...and see if that works OK for you ...
export a small sample of product ( shrink work area to do small sample ), burn dvd and look on TV...only way to see if its working...can use dvd RW if you want and your dvd player can play dvd rw.
if broadcast colors doesnt work well for you, you can also use the OUTPUT on levels...which is normally 0 and 255...black and white...
after you click "OK" on the levels menu you see in sample is when you see change in program monitor...( in my version cs3 )..you wont see change until you click OK, except for in the little tiny window of the levels box....
I personally use the levels adjustment (output only ) more often than the broadcast safe colors for WHITES...

  • How to normalize the audio channel of a video file?

    Hi there
    I have 100 quicktime movies.
All I want to do is to normalise the audio in them.
I understood that in the Volume correction I need to select - Equalize Volume Levels.
    Is that it?
You can watch the movies without the sound boost in here
Also, How can I save the audio File into the quicktime without rendering the video again.
I don't want the video to be encoded again because the quality is really bad for some reason.
Even If I choose Animation codec which suppose to be good.
Isn't there a way of saving the new audio in the movie without encoding it all again?

  • Premiere CS4: How to Set/Disable Snap Area?

I'd like to shorten one of my clips only a few frames. But if I use the Delete and Fill Gaps tool (my translation from German version) I can only shorten my clip for a minimum of, say, 20 frames because there seems some kind of snapping functionality enabled.
This snapping mechanism clings my selection to the clip's current end until I've left a certain area around that clip's end.
How can I set the width of this snapping area? Can I disable it temporarily, e.g. by pressing something like a <SHIFT> key?
    Your help is appreciated.

    Thanks, Jeff!
Do you perhaps know where I can find a menu item on this? I guess I might forget this shortcut after a while. But my motor memory will better remember menu items.
Is there also a way to just temporarily disable snapping? When I'm already dragging I wouldn't want to release the mouse when I'm already at the destination position.
