Premiere CS4 movies rendering out at 30fps but scene set up is 25fps

Hi,
I am scratching my head here, I am rendering out animation movies from Premiere Pro CS4 and the scene is set up to UK Pal 1024x576 custom set up to 25fps, however whenever I render out WMV, Quicktimes or sequencial frames the QT properties on any movie always say 30fps,
how can this be, is there anywhere else a option for 30fps might be hidden from view,
Kind Regards
Mark Miles

Hi Jeff,
Basically if I try to import any of the 3d rendered projects I have created over the past 7 yers into a Custom scene in Premiere set to 25fps, it always looks at the files as 29.7 fps, even thougth the project file is set to 25fps,
If I go to file interpret footage its default is set to "get fps from file" however there must be some flaw somwhere as none of my work has been rendered at 29.7fps, all files have forever been rendered at 25fps
I have recently migrated over from Premiere 6.5 and have never had this problem in all 7 years of using Premiere, I just think that any uk users using 25 fps footage must have to always manually interpret the footage in the software and specify a fps as Premiere must have an issue in detecting 25fps footage..
I know that sounds highly unlikely, and I was going to call Adobe UK later today to square this up.
Cheers
Mark

  • Issues rendering Premiere CS4 movie with Media Encoder

I'm new to this but thought that someone might be able to provide some insight. I have Premiere CS4 and created a movie from a HD video camcorder.
The imported clips are in the following format:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Average Data Rate: 1.3 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Now I'm simply trying to export the movie (Ctrl+M) using Media Encoder. I've been messing around with several different formats, including H264, MPEG and AVI and so far regardless of what output format I pick (even downsize) I'm getting some sort of "tearing" up in my clips. I'm not entirely sure how to describe this but it almost looks like a ghost effect with subjects leaving a ghost image when the scene starts moving around a bit.
I rendered the same exact clip using Windows Movie Market just for the sake of it and everything looks fine.
I'm rendering the clip on a Core i7 920 @3.7Ghz with 6GB of RAM so I don't think the speed is an issue as either (HD is a 300GB Velociraptor).
Any ideas what I am doing wrong
    Thanks,
    Sam

  • Another Premiere CS4 Update Coming Out?

I've read (forgotten where) there was another update coming out soon. Anyone know anything about that? There are several capture card (PC) suppliers--AJA, Bluefish, Blackmagic--that have yet to issue drivers for CS4 supposedly because Adobe has another update they're having to deal with.
Those of us running one of those cards and who upgraded to CS4 have a severe case of the blues not being to use CS4 since it came out; a very long time ago. The cards' manufacturers blame the extended delay on Adobe, of course.

    josh,
    Adobe updates....Yaaaaaaawwwwwn....Zzzzzzzzzz.
As an old Adobe customer, I have neither delusions or illusions about how long it takes them to stabilize their apps, and I always wait to see how many of the immediate updaters are crying because something that worked was broken in the latest update before taking the plunge! :)

  • Help: Premiere is making my startup disk full, but I set everything to go on an external hard drive.

The iMac I am using is for the sole purpose of editing and nothing else. I have no idea what is making my startup disk full, and I can not locate the files that are filling the startup disk except the fact that it is telling me I am running out of space. The startup disk is a 250GB SSD, the second internal drive is 1 TB HDD. All of my premiere and video files are loaded ton a 4TB G-RAID.

Do you have your projects set to use a drive other than startup?
My 3 hard drives to edit AVCHD are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and ALL program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folders and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input & output files

  • Sky Movies lock out regardless of parental control set up

I can appreciate parental controls when you have a child and you want to limit their viewing of certain movies. However, seeing as it is just my wife and I in our house, I have deactivated the parental controls because we have no use for them, which is great cause I can download movies on demand without the need to enter the four digit pin every time. To my surprise though, even with parental controls switched off, if I go to the live showing of the movie on the sky movie channels, I have to enter my pin every time I change channels. I've been told this is a legal thing from Ofcom and that's fair enough... but what surprises me more is, while you lock the sky movie channels, you can still access babestation and the rest of the "dating and chat lines" including, "Grannies on the pull" without any need to enter your pin and this is on a Saturday at 1 oclock in the afternoon. So if I had a kid, what would I rather him accidently coming across... a movie such as Die Hard which is complete fiction or a scantilly clad woman advertizing her "services" I think I know what I would rather have.

Sometimes "Parental Controls" can be subject to glitches, so just to clarify, are you saying that while logged in to the "admin" account and selecting that user in "System Preferences" > "Accounts" you are unable to use "Parental Controls" > "Finder.app & System" > "Applications" to select "Safari.app", or that you are selecting it but the alias is not appearing in the user's "My Applications" folder? This is a fairly common problem with non-Apple apps and "Classic" apps, but I don't think it happens very often with OS X Apple apps...
As a workaround, you can add your own alias by logging in to the "simplified" account, switching to "Full Finder" and opening two "Finder" windows - one showing "/Applications" and the other showing the user's "~/Library/Managed Items/My Applications" folder. Drag "Safari.app" to the "My Applications" folder while holding down the "command" (⌘) and "option" (⌥) keys (dragging with these modifiers causes an "alias" to be created at the destination, provided that the destination is "writable" by the user performing the operation). However, due to the way "Simple Finder" works, it will be necessary to "lock" the alias file using "Get Info", or else the alias will be deleted during the next login.
Also, note that unlike a "Some Limits" account, "Simple Finder" does not restrict application use so removing "Firefox" from "My Applications" will only make it inconvenient to use. Other means will be necessary to actually prevent its use, for example something "permissions" based like changing it's permissions or moving it somewhere to which the user doesn't have access. But it should also be noted that the restrictions on site access placed on Safari don't work very well in any case so they could just download a new copy...

  • Rented HD Movie Audio out of sync

have itunes on a win 8 pc. latest vesrion of ITunes , rented an HD movie and the audio was horribly out of sync. tried stopping starting and restarting but it always moved farther out of sync. Any fixes for this problem other than not to rent movies?

Let's see if some of these questions might bring to light your issue:
    1) Reference movie or self-contained?
reference, though I am burning a self-contained version just to see
    2) Is this audio you've added/adjusted yourself... I mean, did you have to sync it yourself in the timeline as you were editing?
interviews - SOT and music no specific to clips
    3) Are there any 'holes' in your audio on the timeline... spaces as it where?
    no holes
    4) Would there be, by chance, a change in what ends up monitoring the audio from you watching the timeline in FCP to when you open it in Quicktime?
    5) Have you loaded the reference movie back into FCP to see if indeed it is out of sync there too?
Reference movie is out in FCP but the timeline is fine.
    6) This 'jump'... obvious jump? Slight shift over time? Same place every time? Tied to an edit maybe?
obvious jump that shifted position after I tossed the preference file.
    7) What are your computer specs?
Did you need something more specific than the specs I posted in the question? Otherwise, Dual Core Intel 2.66 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.10) 4 Gb ram 1 hour video FCP 6.0.1

  • Premiere CS4 stopped working after updates

    Dell XPS 600
    Pentium (r) D cpu 3.20 ghz 2.00gb ram
    Geforce 7800 GTx
Premiere CS4 will load a new project but freezes after that.  It won't allow me to select anything, mimimize, help, etc. This started after the last search for updates. All other programs in CS4 run fine. The scratch discs are fine. There's no external hard drive attached. Another odd occurence is now the timeline is grey and black. Don't know what that means.

You might wish to post to the Premiere Pro forum, as this is for versions of Premiere prior to the "Pro" designation.
Now, am I correct that you applied the CS4.1 update to PrPro? If you also have recently updated your OS, you might want to also get both the very latest video driver and also audio driver, from the mfgr's Web sites.
    Good luck,

  • AE CS6 renders 7-68 frames out of 889, but gives the "ding" and claims it's done!

So, I set up my first render with CS6. Nothing too complicated, 889 frames long. I hit "Render" and it starts.
About 30 seconds later, I hear the "ding," and am surprised to see that according to the program, the render has finished successfully. "Wow," I think, "CS6 sure is fast. A little *too* fast..."
And sure enough, the render only exported 13 frames! Umm, odd. I check my settings and yes, I've set it to export the entire comp (the Work Area spans the entire comp anyway).
    Okay, strange fluke. Try again.
    7 frames. "Ding!"
    Ugh, try again...
    15 frames. "Ding!"
And so on... 68 frames. 35 frames. 9 frames. 37 frames.
What the hell, man! Why does AE think it's done the render successfully, instead of throwing an error? This is completely unacceptable. Obviously I'm not doing anything wrong here, otherwise the number of frames would be consistant.
When I import the partial renders back into the comp, lay them on top, and export again (to avoid re-rendering those frames), I can get a longer export. So clearly the problem ony comes when there's real work to be done by the renderer, but it never renders more than 70 unique frames each time, and usually I get far fewer, 15 on average.
This is just stupid, I can't live like this. There's no logic to this problem, which pissed me off so much that I punched a door.
I've had nothing put headaches with AE CS6 (the new 3D renderer won't initialize with my CUDA GPU, and refuses to fallback to CPU; Dynamic Linking is slower than CS4, etc.), but I've been able to put off troubleshooting these problems so far, and I wasn't worried because there's always an answer out there somewhere, but this is a frickin' showstopper.
    Please help!

I'm using the default "Lossless" (AVI) settings in the output module, sometimes "Lossless with Alpha" or similar setting. I almost exclusively use uncopressed renders for all my AE projects, as I prefer to use AME or PrPro when rendering out to compressed codecs.
I've been working with multiprocessing disabled for awhile, so I haven't had to deal with this problem. But I have a moment to breathe between jobs now so I can more fully describe my setup, and run some tests.
Most (but not all) of my projects have been largely made up of RED footage (r3d files from the original RED ONE as well as Scarlet/Epic), both 1080p and 4K. But I also frequently work with DSLR footage in the dreaded h.264 format (both mpg and mov). Performance within the program itself (including previews) seems quite good, regardless of which codec my layers are made up of.
For effects and such: some projects have nothing but text layers and masks, while others have extensive keying, color correction, and animation. And some use the 3D ray-tracer and are made up of nothing but shape layers and color mattes, having no video footage at all.
Since I last moaned about this issue, I have re-installed the CUDA toolkit (instead of just the graphics driver), and now the ray-tracer is working better, and Dynamic Link performance is better, but unfortunately, the problem described in the original post remains...
When I have Multiprocessing enabled, any render of a comp with more than one layer seems to exhibit this problem. After trashing my preferences, I have been able get a succesful render or two with multiprocessing enabled, if the project is not too complex, but soon after the problem returns for all projects (it's hard to be precise about exactly when, and what project, triggers its return). I have no idea if trashing my prefs has anything to do with granting a momentary fix, or if it's just a coincidence. When multiprocessing is disabled, I generally have no problems of any kind when rendering (other than it being much slower, as expected).
    My system:
    OS: Win7 x64 SP1
    CPU: Xeon E5504 (x2) @ 2.0 Ghz (8 logical cores total)
    GPU: Quadro FX 3800
    RAM: 24 GB
    Multiprocessing settings:
    RAM for other programs: 6GB
    RAM per process/core: 2GB
Processors reserved for other programs: 0
Actual background processors used: 7 (this drops when I have PrPro or AME open reserving its own RAM, obviously)
    NVIDIA driver: 301.32
    CUDA version: 4.2
I can't seem to identify anything unusual about my setup or configuration, and my Multiprocessing settings use recommended guidelines from the AE team (which have proved optimal in the past).
Is there any other information about my setup that would be useful?

  • Premiere CS4 I Can't Import .MXF files but Adobe assures me i can?????

Hi I have Adobe Premiere CS4 and I am trying to import some videos to it and they are in .MXF format. Premiere issues me "codec missing or unavailable" and I don't want to download some sort of converter. Isn't Premiere supposed to support .MXF files?????????

Not sure about CS4, I started with CS6. And hope I'm not being preachy here, but an awful lot of troubles over MXF files have the same root problems. Even some very experienced editors have had issues with this. The vast majority of the times this error comes up people have not imported as PrPro needs it ... MXF files are a form of AVCHD ... the camera makes separate (and oft fairly short) sections of video file and matching audio files, stored on the cam in separate folders, with a database to tell any further software use which pieces are part of the same "full-length" clip, and that data is stored in a different folder-tree from the other files. If you don't properly import the whole folder tree, PrPro says ... no go.
So ... when uploading onto the computer, or moving the files around to various drives, you ALWAYS need to take the entire folder-tree from the camera and move it intact. Some other softwares manage to sort out MXF/AVCHD files while the top level folder didn't get copied, PrPro probably will choke. Next, you need to navigate to the files in the Media Browser and then select and "Import" those files, then work them from the Project panel.
Oh ... and often times if these are on external drives, PrPro can be picky about seeing/working with them.

  • CS4 Premiere Pro_How to Zoom out/in on stills?

I have stills (still jpeg images) in my timeline and I want to create the effect of zooming in or out of them (like they were video and not stills). How do I do this in Adobe Premiere CS4?  Thank you-please help.

I went to effect control and fussed with the scale (still clueless) can't find the velocity you refer to.
When you click on your still image, and have the Effects Control Panel open, the first thing that you will do is move the CTI (Current Time Indicator) in either the main Timeline, or in the mini-Timeline, to where you want your image to be 100%. Click the little stopwatch, and you will see a Keyframe added in the Effects Control Panel. Now, your next step will depend on exactly how you wish your animation to work. I'd next to where you wish for the Scale to change and click the little solid circle, between the two opposite arrows. This will add another 100% Keyframe. The other Keyframes can be added the same way, or you can move the CTI and just change the Scale (either typing, scrubbing, or with the slider). A Keyframe will be added there.
Once you have gotten your Keyframes set for your Scale, it's probably easiest to Rt-click on each Keyframe, and choose your Velocity settings there. For more involved Velocity settings, one can go to the Velocity Graph, but that tends to be a bit advanced.
Also, you may also wish to explore the fixed Effect Motion>Position. It can be Keyframed along with Scale, or totally independent. It too has a stopwatch, and its own line in the Effects Control Panel's mini-Timeline.
I've got links to basic Keyframing tutorials, but they are for PrElements, and there are enough differences, that they might be of little use.
    Good luck,

  • Rendering Freeze in Premiere CS4

I had a DV 24P project go into what I call "rendering freeze" - it opens up the render box, but then does nothing. It will simply sit there for hours if I let it, but I can escape out of it at any time. The project was a CS3 import that is 95% done, and my deadline isn't until March, so I set it aside for more pressing work. I'm on Vista Ultimate and CS4 has been rock solid for me on multiple projects, from scratch and CS3 imports.
(under "render details" it shows the start time correctly, but both the "time elapsed" and "free disk space" fields are blank)
Tonight I started a new 1080 HD1080P 24 project, and a few renders into it the same thing happened. I thought this would be a good opportunity for troubleshooting, since I had little time invested into the project.
I tried deleting effects, tracks, then assets, and finally everything to see if I could get a render to work. Dead. I tried opening a new sequence and importing a simple jpg as an asset. Same problem. I tried it over again using DV and other sequence timelines to see if it was format dependent. The freeze seemed to be project independent.
I started over with a new project using the same format, assets, and effect, duplicating the same steps as as closely as possible, and rendering continues to work fine - and I'm much further into the project. This has me scared to death that my DV project (the one that is 95% done) is nearly useless (the 5% left to do is all detail work and must be rendered to check edits).
Has anyone else had this problem?

I hope you've found the answer already, but it sound exactly what I've run into.
My problem was that I upgraded from CS2 and then removed the suite once CS4 was running.
If you have done the same thing, simply reinstall Premiere CS4 and it will work as it did for me.
If not, I don't know what to tell you.
    Good luck,

  • Rendering Issues using redgiant plugins premiere cs4

    hi,
i have edited a interview, which i shot and then i applied redgiant effects of them. when trying to render it out, the rendering stops at 30 - 40% it just would not go any further. there are three cameras which were used in the shooting one was the canon xh a1, panasonic semi pro camera, and a sony semi pro. which were then merged in premiere pro to give views from different angles, just like interviews are done. the problems i am facing is that the end product would just not render out. the effects which i appiled on the project are, looks, mojo, and colourista, all of which are redgiant products.
the project renders out fine without the effects but with the effects it just gets stuck.
any help will be greatly appriciated, as i have been waiting for weeks to find out the solution.
    thankyou in advance.

Exporting to H.264 is about as close as you can get. AVCHD is H.264, but a slightly specialized version of it. Exporting to pure AVCHD is not an option, but you will be very close with the H.264.
Recently, Jeff Bellune summed it up very well - to paraphrase, AVCHD is H.264, but a sub-set of it. All AVCHD is H.264, but not all H.264 is AVCHD. [If I got that wrong, I hope that Jeff will correct me, and accept my apologies.]
One consideration is that there are different providers of the H.264 CODEC. Three common ones are Apple's, Lead's and MainConcept's. Not sure if CS4 installs one, or not. I know that most, or maybe ALL of Adobe's CODEC's are from MainConcept, but in this case, I think that one needs to install a version of H.264. This is done automatically, when one installs Apple's QT Player (later versions), but some users have reported issues with the Apple H.264 CODEC, especially with Export. Most of those have reported much better Exports, when they installed either the Lead, or the MainConcept versions. Something to think about.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere CS4 - Multiple tracks always require rendering regardless

It used to be if you had for instance mutiple tracks and the top track was a DV-AVI file with 100% opacity and no filters, no rendering was required. Now it seems that if you have anything on the lower tracks, even if completely hidden by the top layer, rendering is always required and transcoding takes longer - sometimes considerably depending on what's on the lower layers though not seen. I actually have to completely remove sections of clips on the lower tracks to speed up transcoding. Just more unnecessary work and time.
Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I can not seem to find this precise issue among the slow rendering discussions.
