Premiere CS5 and codecs

I have a problem with Premiere CS5 (And all other video software for that matter) and the supported video formats.
What I did was, I installed the Master Collection trial version and when I actually purchased the software I entered the serial and done!...  I thought...
I know that in the trial version a lot of the codecs are blocked so I thought something might have gone wrong there so when I received the actual Discs I tried reinstalling Premiere but with the same result:
I wanted to import an IMX 625/50 .mov file but it just wouldn't work, eventhough that should be supported as far as I can tell. Also my export format list was very limited to pretty much the standard codecs from what I can see. So after a bit of trying and reinstalling etc. I installed Final Cut Pro 2 and everything is running fine now, with big lists of export and import possibillities in all the adobe video editing software.
So the question is: Did I miss something when upgrading from the trial version to the full version

Depending on the particular FLV files, they should Import into CS5.
I think that capability was added with the last update of CS4 - CS4.2.1. Before that, one needed something like the Moyea FLV Importer for PrPro, which was a plug-in.
Now, the CODEC used in the FLV might/might not be an issue. I do not know the exact Flash CODEC's that will function properly, but it seems that Todd commented on that in an earlier thread here.
In a worst-case scenario, Moyea does have various Flash utilities and programs, and they might help, if some of your FLV's do not work properly.
Remember, FLV is a delivery format, and is designed primarily for streaming Web content. A great deal of the quality will have been squeezed out of the file, but if the FLV's are all that you have to work with, you are stuck on the quality issue.
Good luck, and let us know what you find out, regarding the various Flash CODEC's and CS5.

  • Adobe Premiere CS5 and Open Directory users - Premiere fails to start

We have several class rooms with desktops that are configured for Open Directory.
When a student logs in he's actually working in his home folder on the server and his user is also managed by the server.
This works fine for all the applications that we're using except for Adobe Premiere CS5 and Adobe After Effects CS5. Whenever a student tries to start one of them the application will hang and only a force quit can stop it. It is impossible to start these applications.
However, it is possible to use Premiere and After Effects using a local standard on the desktops. But I don't want to go that route. I want the managed users to be able to use those applications.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
Are you able to use this applications in a same environment?
I've played a lot with the permissions on the library, system and Adobe folders, but the problem doesn't seem to be related to them.
    Setup:
AFP Server: Xserve intel running Mac OS X Server 10.6.5
OD Servers: Mac Mini Servers running Mac OS X Server 10.6.5
Clients: iMacs intel running Mac OS X 10.6.6

Safe Mode disables a lot of drivers and services, like networking.  That would seem to indicate that something is running on your system that interferes somehow.
I'm just not sure how you'd go about tracking that down.

  • Premiere cs5 and message "not responding"

I Have a brand new i7 system with windows 7 64bit, 6Gb ram, gtx 280 graphic card, one ssd disk 128 gb (main)
and two hard disk 2 TB as raid, proper for video editing (sata II, 7200rpm), i use intensity pro as outpout card.
I am trying to edit with premiere cs5 and I use few AE project.
Unfortunately the programm is unstable, very often i have the message "not responding", especcially when I load
projects and when i try to save my project. Also the programm working very -very slow.
Help, can someone help me? Iam very-very-very dissapointed and iam thinking if i have to try another programm.........
    any help is accepted..............

i have installed 3.9.1 version and its seems to work properly.
    I restarted the system.
I found that probably small projects (220 min avi ) work better instead
of the bigger projects (220 min avi video+10 AE proj+3 phd proj)
    where the system frozen.
I think the problem is the volume of data transfer and the transfer capacity,
probably this is problem with the disk or partition?
Unfortunately I am not the expert about computers, basic electronics and
    computers skills.
I wonder why cs5 worked properly when i worked with ouadro fx580 and
1tb hard disk (until 30 ayg 2010) and know -after the changes- with
raid 2 tb hard disk ang grx 285 graphic card  the system ia almost
    out of order.

  • Importing .avi file into Premiere CS5 and losing on quality

    Hello Adobe users,
I'm having a problem with importing my material in Premiere CS5. It's file extension is .avi and I'm not sure which step I do wrong to get his but it's pretty important to me to find out what's the problem.
Every time I try to import material which was captured on another computer, I get it all lossy in Premiere and it's really obvious.
Maybe I make mistake with opening new project?
I'm not sure which camera is used, but I'm sure it's Panasonic and it films in cinemascope (widescreen).
I would really appreciate your help here!
    Thanks in advance, Filip!

    Flip,
    Welcome to the forum.
AVI can hold all sorts of things, and those will be all important in addressing your problem. This ARTICLE goes into more detail, and shows how to "peek inside the AVI wrapper." Please let us know what CODEC is used in that file.
How are you Importing/Capturing the AVI file?
    What Sequence Preset was chosen?
    Good luck,

  • Any issues with Premiere CS5 and CS4 on the same machine?

I want to install the trail version of Premiere CS5, but I want to know if I'll still be able to run CS4 if needed during the trial period, as well as after the trial period if I decide not to upgrade.  Does uninstalling CS5 mess up CS4 in any way?
    J. D.

The only issue I've found was related to tape capturing. My Canon XH A1 footage stopped being captured when I installed CS5 as trial (However I've had it as trial for a few hours only). Once I entered the licence it started working again. This is the only thing! Don't uninstall Acrobat Pro if you do have it installed.
This could have to do with the fact that as trial some codecs are not installed. Case in point is AME CS5, it is only able to export to a few formats as trial.

  • Did a fresh install of Windows Vista and Premiere CS5 and now Premiere is buggy!

Hi everyone. I was using Premiere Pro CS5 on my quad core system editing AVCHD clips just fine and then I had to do a fresh install of Windows Vista Home Premium. I then did a fresh install of Premiere Pro CS5 on a separate hard drive and opened up one of my AVCHD projects. Now, for some reason, the same AVCHD projects that played fine before are now jittery and also show blocky artifacts. The jitter seems to be a constant jitter every second and the blocky artifacts seem to happen mostly when the subject in the clip is moving. I know the problem isn't in the original clip from my GH-1 camera because if I play the original clip that is on my hard drive, it plays just fine so, it has to be Premiere CS5 that is causing the clips to play all jerky on the timeline. Can someone please help me solve this problem? One more thing, when I reinstalled Premiere CS5, I installed the latest update from Adobe. I didn't have that update installed before when the clips played fine. Could that update be the culprit? Thanks.
My clips were recorded using a Panasonic GH1 HDSLR camera and are 1080/24p (progressive).

  • Premiere CS5 and dynamic link with Affect effects doesn't "sync"

Hi guys, having issues with Pr and Ae CS5 using the dynamic link. I haven't got massive experience using aftereffects, i mainly edit. I doing VFX for a short film ( i know right, deep end..) Its a hand held combat scene.
I'm using action essentials 2 for muzzle flash and explosions. And i'm noticing that when a do tracking (manually, "track motion" doesn't work, due to the shaky camera movement) in After effects, the muzzle flashes are in place and looks great
but when i go back to Premiere to view the clip, its not hitting the same marks in every frame. I export the clip out of Premiere and still the same issue.
example of me manually tracking or adding keyframes for position in after effects.
After effects still.                                                                                                     Premiere still. See how the flashes are in the sky.
Look for the two muzzle flashes up the top right, on the ridge line.
The footage is AVCHD .MTS files for a Panasonic GH2 PAL
Here's a link to the clip, notice that same of the flashes coming out of the actor's gun isn't in the right positon also.

We are just shifing to PP from another editor and have only used PP to AE for color correction tests w/Color Finesse (a plugin in AE). My only experinece with dynamic link is in this way. Personally I find it very cumbersome. So take this with a grain of salt, but if we do other work in AE (we have an intern working on a 1.5 min AE animation) I will render it out in AE to ProRes HQ or 4444 if I need an alpha channel (or similar codec) and drag it into my project folder in PP.
You should do yourself a favor (Not meant with disrespect) and take a few hours and REALLY get down and dirty with Dynamic Link between PP and AE.
I use it all the time and it litterally saves me 10+ hours of work on EACH project which is typical between 70 and 300 clips.
In fact, I dont know how I'd do withouth DL.
At first it seems cumbersome, yes. But that is only until you get to know it...
I will cut the whole project in PP. Then save it.
Then in AE, I'll choose "Import PP Project " --- That will open my whole PP project in AE on SEPERATE layers (One layer per Clip).. Ready to CC.
I dont have to render a thing from PP.
If I need to, I'll use the AE Script "Pre Compose" to make an individual composition of each layer.
AE is just about the greatest app I have EVER seen on ANY computer ! Hands Down
Does not get ANY faster than that.

  • Adobe Premiere CS5 and CS6 freeze my computer

    Hello,
I recently built myself a new computer and installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it:
    COOLER MASTER HAF 932 case
    Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz CPU
    Noctua NH-D14 CPU Fan
    32GB of DDR3 G.Skill 12800 RAM
128GB Crucial M4 SSD HDD (as the C drive)
3 2TB Seagate HDD's RAID 5 (software is up to date)
    Antec HCG-900 900 watt PSU
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 480 video card
    Bluray/DVD drive
All of the parts are brand new. The problem is that I installed the Adobe CS6 Master Collection and every time I try to use Premiere (on any new or old projects) and make any video edits - the entire computer freezes. Sometimes it takes a few minutes, sometimes it takes nearly an hour of video playback and/or editing to freeze. I am going crazy trying to figure out what is going wrong. I do not get any bluescreen errors or anything in the Event Viewer (other than a notice saying the computer shut down improperly due to the fact that I had to hold in the power button). The odd thing is that it seems to work in Safe Mode every time, thus making me think it's a software issue. The other strange thing is that I've left Premiere open all day and night and the computer would not freeze - it only seems to happen when I'm making edits or playing back video.
What I have tried thus far:
Reinstalling Windows (with no antivirus or extra programs)
Updated Adobe Premiere CS6 (I also tried CS5)
    Installing Windows Updates
Windows Memory Diagnostic (no errors found)
    Updating all drivers
    Alternate video card (GTX 460)
Installed a PCI sound card and disabled onboard sound
I tried maxing out the CPU (very difficult to do) with other programs besides Premiere - no freezing
Installed Core Temp to monitor CPU temperature - it never got above 65 degrees and was generally in the 45-50 degree range, so I'm sure it's not overheating
Tried only one 8GB stick of RAM to see if maybe it was memory - it still froze
I may have tried a couple other things, but that's all I can remember for now. Needless to say, this is a problem I've never even heard of. My only other thought is to try a different hard drive and/or PSU. Any ideas?
Your time and expertise is very much appreciated.
Also, please let me know if there's a more appropriate place to post this.
    Thanks!
    PS
I noticed one other member had the same problem (still unresolved as of April) and they had the same video card and SSD drive I do. However, they, like me, changed their video card and it made no difference...

Safe Mode disables a lot of drivers and services, like networking.  That would seem to indicate that something is running on your system that interferes somehow.
I'm just not sure how you'd go about tracking that down.

  • Re: Premiere CS5 and Droverlord window

Just thought I should report a crash after the 5.0.2 update, while scrubbing audio on the timeline.
"Premiere Pro has encountered an error
    [..\..\Src\MasterClip.cpp-645]"
PPro then hung and popped up a separate "DroverLord - TabPanel" window. I had to kill it with Task Manager.
It seems this DroverLord issue is more related to AE but I do have 4 AE DL comps in my project so it could be associated with that.

Hi again, thanks for your suggestions, but I found something that can clarify...In some of the clips that I placed in the Timeline, I have put some filters from Boris Continuum Complete set. These filters worked before I change my graphics card, but now appears to hangs or freeze premiere.
I have loaded my Project and delete all the BCC filters in the clips and WORKS!.
I have loaded again the project (with the filters already applied) and directly RENDER with Adobe Media Encoder...and the filters SHOW!. So, I think that will be a Boris Continuum problem related.
I try to move in the Project in the clips affected by the BCC filters, and appears to hangs, but waiting a lot...It works!.
Arg!. I don´t know what happen here!

  • HT3775 which Video format is best for adobe premiere CS5 and CS6

I would like to know which video format to import in adobe CS%- CS^  because it looks like it's kind of slow. when I import the video file as mts

FCP is a quicktime based NLE and your footage would be most compatible if with if encoded in the Quicktime Movie file format (MOV)
As far as quality goes, DV is a codec (and not an especially high quality one), AVI and MOV are container formats and can contain a huge variety of different codecs which can vary greatly in quality.

  • Premiere / Media Encoder CS5 and deinterlacing

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not at all happy with the deinterlacing results from Premiere CS5 and Media Encoder. I've been using Premiere since CS3 and hoped for improvement in CS4, but no. And now with CS5, it's still just not good...
This is what I do in an nutshell: I edit 1080i HDV video in Premiere (using 1080i timelines) and export it to several formats, including 720p for Youtube. Now, whatever I do, I alway get some staircasing / aliasing on deinterlaced output. Not really bad and hardly noticable on video, but very noticable on logo's (which - ironically - are progressive to start with). Preview in Premiere looks fine, but as soon as I put the content through media encoder: staircasing. Even with the new "Use maximum render quality" option enabled.
When I output my 1080i timeline as 1080i MPEG2 video everything looks pristine (motion adaptive deinterlacing is then done upon playback by my nVidia graphics card). When I leave all rendering options the same and export 1080p or 720p - leaving deinterlacing to media encoder - staircasting is easily visible on logo's and detail is lost in the video compared to real-time deinterlaced output by my graphics card.
I guess my main question is: Why can't Adobe get this right? nVidia and ATI can do it very well and in realtime on their graphics cards (and have been able to do so for several years now) and freeware filters such as the ones used by ffdshow do a far better job too.
Why can't a high-end and expensive video editing solution like CS5 get this right? Hugely disappointing

    Hi Todd, Steve,
    I'm running CS5 a Cuda enabled system  (Intel Core i7 965, 12 GB DDR3, MSI GeForce GTX 285 with 2GB memory and a secondary GeForce 9400GT 1GB, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit).
Cuda support is enabled in premiere CS5, as my timelines are yellow even when I enable cuda accelerated effects such as color correction. So no problems there.
I work with 1080i50 HDV and AVCHD files, which I normally use in a HDCAM EX 50i timeline (I use HDCAM EX because that enables me to render all effects and graphics in 1920x1080, instead of a HDV timeline which renders everyting in 1440x1080). I have tried using native HDV timelines too, but that reduces horizontal sharpness on our logo and on sceen graphics, while the deinterlacing problems I encounter are exactly the same.
The problem is that when I export an HDCAM EX timeline to 720p, I get noticable degradation in image sharpness and visible jaggies on our on-screen logo. The same applies when I export to 1080p. When I export to 1080i (so no deinterlacing is done by Premiere or Media Encoder), the file looks great on playback (deinterlacing done in real time by my nVidia card).
For the last few weeks I've been working a round the problem in a way which is not ideal for me, but which does seem to provide better results:
I now work with HDCAM EX 25p timelines instead of 50i, and I set the 'field options' flag for all my clips to 'always deinterlace'. This results in a loss of temporal resolution on my timelines (which I don't really want, since I also export to PAL 50i) but it results in noticably better sharpness and less aliasing on 720p output.
I'd love to share my on-screen logo title if you wish to have a look at it. Our logo contains a circle which shows easily visible jaggies when deinterlaced incorrectly. Please let me know how to get the files to you.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Run out of Hard Drive space using Premiere Cs5- Can I save my work, buy and new hard drive?

I am in the middle of a project using premiere cs5 and I have run out of hard drive space. Can I save it, buy a new hard drive and install Premiere and then reopen it again without  it effecting my project?

If you are talking about only having one drive for Windows and programs AND video data and project files, a better option is to buy a second drive and move your projects and video data files to the new drive

Not a problem; not scolding, just suggesting that users there might be of more help, since CS5/CS5.5 is a whole different animal than CS4.
I suspect that, if setting playback to full resolution didn't help, there's not much you can do with these files as they are. You'll have to convert them to something else. Does the break up appear when you step through the video frame by frame? If not, you could use AME to convert these to something else, which will then let you edit a little more effectively in Premiere Pro.
EDIT: Sorry, missed that you said that exporting retained the blobs. In light of that, you'll have to look at a third-party converter to flip these. MPEG Streamclip for Windows might work.

  • PC Recognizes HV20 but no frames are captured in Premiere CS5? (Or HDVSplit)

    Hi there.
Recently upgraded my laptop to a nice Sager NP8130 as a mobile editing workstation, and when I went to begin capturing HDV footage the other day, I wasn't able to!
My PC detects the camera (Canon HV20) fine, it shows up in device manager as functioning. In Adobe Premiere CS5, and HDVSplit I can use the playback controls to shuttle the tape around, and I even get timecode feedback correctly on the PC.
But no matter what, I can't get any dang video to capture!
Camera and cable are definitely working fine; I dug out my old laptop and captured the footage I needed with no problem.
If anyone has any ideas, or any experience with this error, I would dearly appreciate any input,
    Thanks!

Unfortunately, with no success, I also tried that method of switching to the Legacy firewire driver, as it used to be a common suggestion back in the vista days.
