Premiere CS5 Constantly Crashing -- NOT

It hasn't crashed once since we installed it.  Is this thing stable or what?

I have had it crash a couple of times during very long edit sessions and using AE
with dynamic linking.
Well, I don't think it was Premiere's fault - was trying to export to AME and it gave an error trying to establish the link - I found that I had 5 instances of Premiere Pro headless running - I don't know what caused that though.
Otherwise, I've found it to be pretty stable so far during extensive use
Very large projects can take some time switching between apps - but Adobe know about that.

Have you tried exporting anything yet?  I've tried exporting things over & over.  Tried using different formats (uncompressed avi, flv/f4v, mpeg4, mpeg2, etc.), qeuing in Media Encoder (CS5) and forget it.  So yeah, that's why I'm here.  It'll crash every time you export.  Then if you've qeued it to Media Encoder, it'll show errors.  Every other program in the package works fine.  Premiere exports?  Forget it.

  • Premiere cs5 and message "not responding"

I Have a brand new i7 system with windows 7 64bit, 6Gb ram, gtx 280 graphic card, one ssd disk 128 gb (main)
and two hard disk 2 TB as raid, proper for video editing (sata II, 7200rpm), i use intensity pro as outpout card.
I am trying to edit with premiere cs5 and I use few AE project.
Unfortunately the programm is unstable, very often i have the message "not responding", especcially when I load
projects and when i try to save my project. Also the programm working very -very slow.
Help, can someone help me? Iam very-very-very dissapointed and iam thinking if i have to try another programm.........
    any help is accepted..............

i have installed 3.9.1 version and its seems to work properly.
    I restarted the system.
I found that probably small projects (220 min avi ) work better instead
of the bigger projects (220 min avi video+10 AE proj+3 phd proj)
    where the system frozen.
I think the problem is the volume of data transfer and the transfer capacity,
probably this is problem with the disk or partition?
Unfortunately I am not the expert about computers, basic electronics and
    computers skills.
I wonder why cs5 worked properly when i worked with ouadro fx580 and
1tb hard disk (until 30 ayg 2010) and know -after the changes- with
raid 2 tb hard disk ang grx 285 graphic card  the system ia almost
    out of order.

  • Premiere Pro Constantly Crashing!

I have recently downloaded Premiere Pro trial and then upgraded to Premiere pro CC.
Since moving to Premiere Pro CC the program crashes without warning and I'm loosing
hours of work due to this. I save constantly but the saved files keep reverting back to older
    work.
I uninstalled premiere pro and reinstalled it straight from the Adobe Site and it still crashes constantly!
Please advise as this is extremely frustrating not to mention a complete waste of my time!
    Gareth Hubbard

    Hi Gareth,
If it crashes immediately (without giving you any error messages) after you load a project or create a new one, it is not able to authenticate the license. Here is what you need to do:
Sign out from the Creative Cloud app and Quit it (Quit option will be available after a few seconds).
Now move the following folders to desktop:
    1) SLCache
    Windows: OS Drive\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
    Mac: Library/Application Support/Adobe
    2) SLStore
    Windows: OS drive\ProgramData\Adobe
    Mac: Library/Application Support/Adobe
    3) OOBE
    Windows: OS Drive\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe
    Mac: /User/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Launch Premiere Pro now and sign in with your Adobe ID. Let me know if it helps.
NOTE: Make sure your Anti Virus/Firewall is not blocking any Adobe activation servers. Alternately, you can also check your 'hosts' file for any changes.
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • Premiere CS5 constantly freezing & unfreezing

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for about 1 year now and I've never had problems with my hardware not being fast enough to handle my projects.  I am editing 1920x1080 24p video from my 7D.  I only have two video tracks and three audio tracks and the program constantly freezes and unfreezes only to freeze again moments later. The length of the project is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes long.   Does anyone know of any known issues inside of premiere that I might try to speed things up?
    Here are my computer’s specs:
    Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4GHz
    8GB of DDR2 ram
Separate 7200rpm hard drive for video files
    NVIDIA Geforce 9600GT
I know my video car is not combatable with the mercury playback engine, but I feel like the software shouldn’t be freezing with two videos layered.
I have antivirus software turned off, indexing turned off, internet disabled, and no other programs running.  It seems as though I can open other Premiere projects without the program freezing.  Is it possible one of the video files is causing the program to perform poorly?

Thank you all for your answers.  I think I have a combination of issues.
    1.  Outdated computer.  I will be purchasing a completely new computer in
2012.  I'd like to hear you suggestions for a windows 64bit set up.  Is
16GB of ram enough?  I was going to get a Intel i7 3.4GHz processor.  Which
video card should I get?  Trying to spend about $1,000 on the mother board,
video card, ram, and processor.  Should I use a RAID configuration?
    2.  I was trying to edit 23.997 fps footage in a 29.997 timeline... oops.
I restarted and used the correct frame rate in my project to match my
    footage and everything works fine.
    3.  I installed all of the recent updates yesterday. Seems to be helping a
    little.
Has anyone tried to force Premiere to utilize an NVIDIA Geforce 9600GT for
    the mercury playback engine?
    Thanks for all your help...

  • Premiere Pro constantly crashing on startup. Please help!!

I have a lot of work done on a video I started yesterday, but now Premiere won't start, always crashing on start up and saying that there has been a serious error. I'm so annoyed. Nothing I've read might work has been working to fix. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but that didn't help. I'm using the trial version. Aside from this problem, the program is so great, and I was so happy with it, but now I can't even get all of the stuff I worked so hard on off of it!!

Is your media loaded on an external drive?  Try moving it to an internal drive.
If Pr isn't crashing immediately after starting, wait for a while before doing anything in the program (up to several minutes) to see if the Media Pending screen goes away and your clip appears in its place.
Try starting Pr from a shortcut (not by double-clicking a project file) and hold down the Shift+Alt keys until you see the welcome screen.  Then select or navigate to your project file and open it.
Try creating a brand-new project and then import your old project into it.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Really need help with CS5 constantly crashing.

I last posted here about 5 months ago with problems with CS5 hanging or crashing. And then the advice was to remove all third-party plugins which I did, I also deleted a whole slew of fonts that had been installed by other applications without my really noticing. Something worked, because CS5 became relatively stable. I was able to work on big multi-layered files. I even reintroduced some of my plugins without causing any problems. But a few weeks ago it started crashing again. It is much worse than before, I can't use it for more than a few minutes, usually, before getting the dreaded "stopped working" error message. Sometimes I don't even get past Camera Raw, because Camera Raw hangs. The crashes seem to be random, they don't occur in relation to a particular task, it can happen when I am opening a file, or saving one, or at almost any time in between.
It is CS5 32 bit on Vista Home Premium (32 bit). I have 4gb of RAM, the graphics card is an ATI Radeon 3800 series with 512GB. (Not the greatest, I know, but it is on Adobe's list as a supported card. I don't mind upgrading the card but I'd like to know that it will solve the problem.) It has the latest drivers installed. I've tried running Photoshop with with Open GL Enabled and with it not enabled. It doesn't make any difference. I have reset the preferences. I have, of course, uninstalled all the third party plugins. I've checked for duplicate and corrupt fonts. I uninstalled and reinstalled CS5 and all the updates. Nothing has helped and i have no idea what else to try.
(The really infuriating thing is that CS runs and is stable on my old laptop, which is running XP and has integrated graphics and 1GB of RAM. It's very, very slow, and I can't imagine what it would be like if I was trying to work with loads of layers, but it never crashes.)
The Event Viewer log description is not enlightening, unless I am missing something:  Faulting application Photoshop.exe, version 12.0.4.0, time stamp 0x4d9d8cbc, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x5b780000, process id 0x%9, application start time 0x%10.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. I have work piling up and I'm getting desperate.

    Thank you, Noel and Chris.
Chris, that is exactly what is in the log:
process id 0x%9, application start time 0x%10.
I guess I should start really worrying now, then!
Malware, well, I do regular complete scans. The last one was just a couple of days ago. I'll do another.
A few days ago I also ran sfc/scannow, which reported some corrupt files, which were supposedly repaired. And some files that could not be repaired, which the cbs log revealed to be some truetype fonts (not system fonts). I reinstalled the fonts anyway. Running the scan doesn't reveal anything now, but I don't know how how reliable it is.
Re the .NET error, I wonder if this relates to the shutdown process. I have noticed that after getting the message that Windows is closing Photoshop it then sometimes hangs and I have to close it manually from Task Manager.
Noel, I have checked the RAM, though only using Windows Memory Diagnostic. It didn't find anything amiss. I also ran CHKDSK, which didn't find any hard drive errors.
But bottom line, it looks like my problem is a system problem and not a Photoshop one, I guess, so I really shouldn't even be posting all this rubbish here! I'm still not sure why the only application so far affected is Photoshop, except that perhaps it is the most resource hungry application that I run.
I think I need to make the time to buy that new system.
    Thanks again!

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 crashing (not responding) when adding files

    Hello,
I am running AME CS5.5 on a late 2010 MacBook Pro.  I have been trying to create some broadcast quality .mpg files for my local cable provider's Video On Demand service but AME keeps crashing on me whenever I add a .mov file to the queue.  I am using Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects CS5.5 to edit video and create animations.  I have been able to encode a few files into the required .mpg specs, but now I can't even add a file into the queue without it freezing up.  I then have to force quit the application to shut it down.  I have recently repaired my disk permissions and used DiskWarior to clean up and create a new directory.  Is this a known bug?  Is Adobe working on a fix.  I hope so because I have some projects due in mid-September and would hate to have to resort to using Apple's Compressor instead of AME since AME is faster.  Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Avi file imports into Premiere CS5.5 but not CS6

I'm trying to move a project from CS5.5 to CS6.   I have several SD avi files that CS6 says can't be imported because they're "damaged or un-supported".   After several experiments I found -
    1) The existing CS5.5 project works fine.
    2) A new CS5.5 project can import the files that fail in CS6.
    3) The files play fine in Windows Media Player.
    4) Removing Media Cache and Preview files had no effect on the issue.
I'm running Premiere 6.0.3 (most recent Cloud version) on 64-bit Windows 7.

Exactly what is inside the files?

I have a Dell XPS 8300 computer with the following:

    Welcome to the forum.
I would start with John T's questions, and then move to this ARTICLE. It starts with a checklist to get PrE working best, and then goes to tuneup tips for the computer and the OS. Finally, it provides links to troubleshoot, working up in "degree of difficulty."
If your computer was purchased, rather than built by scratch, it is very likely filled with tons of bloatware, that gets in the way, when doing video editing. For that, see the Clean, Lean, Mean Editing Machine article link in part 2. Also, it is very likely that your OS is in bad need of a tune up, as most mfgrs. go with a highly generic configuration, and many of the settings actually hinder performance.
Also, unless you have gone to the mfrg's. Web site, your video and audio drivers are probably 6- 12 mos. out of date. Do not trust Windows to tell you if you have the latest - check the mfgr's. Web site. If you have a Dell, HP, Lenovo, or similar, then stop by their Web site first, as many will tweak those drivers.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere CS5 keeps crashing (I'm an animator using HD)

I have been using CS5 on my PC and I am using it to animate in HD. I've been nesting sequences together to clean up tracks for more space. While I'm working, a message pops up saying "An error has occured, the program must shut down" I look in the details and it said the Fault Module was PremiereFiltersMetaPlugin.prmnp (something like that) Once it crashes, I have to open up the task manager and close it in there, otherwise I can't open it again. I have no idea what to do, and this is frustrating because it happens within 30 seconds of opening the project. Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the forum.
For remote troubleshooting, it would be very helpful to have a lot more detail. This ARTICLE will give you some tips, and also a few hints on how to gather some of that material.
The more that you can tell us about your system, your source footage, your Sequence Preset and the operation(s) that you are performing, the easier it will be to offer suggestions.
For finding out a few more details, this ARTICLE might offer some hints on finding clues.
This ARTICLE might be useful for setting up your computer for an editing session. Be sure to see the link (near the bottom of the thread) to Black Viper's page for Win7.

  • Audio/Video sync drift in Premiere CS5.5, but not in CS6

I have a QuickTime file with the following specs:
    Video: H.264, 854x480, 29.99fps
    Audio: AAC, 44100 Hz
When I open the file in QT player, or in Adobe Premiere CS6, there is no issue with Audio/Video sync.
However, when I import the file in Premiere CS 5.5, there is a drift in the Audio/Video sync.
Is there something I can do in Premiere CS 5.5 to avoid or fix the drift?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem and these are the steps I took to fix it.
First I deleted the files in "Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files" for the project in question. I reopened Premiere and it appeared that deleting those files didn't seem to do anything as everything in the project looked the same.
I then disconnected the drive with the footage on it and opened Premiere. When it asked where the footage was, I told it to Offline All. I then went into Preferences > Media and hit Clean for the Media Cache Database. This had to be done because it only cleans the cache for files that are no longer connected with the project (as noted above). I closed and reopened the project, selected everything in the Project window, right clicked and chose Relink Media. I located one file and it relinked the rest automatically.
Now, finally, Premiere is re-conforming all the audio. Hooray!
