Premiere cs5 little problem with mpeg2

hi
i'm upgrade to cs5 and i try to import and export some tape sd dv, but i found a little issue
i've  premiere cs 5.0.3 , nvidia 470, i7, win 7, matrox rtx2, 12gbram
the tape is  sd 4:3  and another sd 16:9 and the same happen with 4:3 and 16:9
i try to open a sequence matrox pal dv so it use fisrt lower field and i import  a short clip , it's all ok, but when i export an mpeg2 or an mpeg2 dvd and set first a lower field i obtain a mpeg video that it's little flikering, i mean  if i play it in windows media player or if i import it in a premiere sequence pal dv (so with first lower field) and i playback i see little flickering in an external monitor, that don't happen if i play it with power dvd or vlc player
i try to change the export field into upper but oviously the playback it's worst, that's compleatly flickering
the same seems happens in a native premiere sequence
another question is:
when i create a matrox sd pal sequence (so with first upper field) and i import a sd tape premiere see it as a lower field, is it right?
thanks
silvio

If you capture with Matrox tools the footage is Upper Field. So if you import that into a Matrox sequence it should be ok.
If you capture with Premiere the footage is Lower. So you have to set up a sequence with lower field.
Export to mpeg2 DVD should be accordantly to the footage.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - Problems with mpeg2 export file

    Hello!
I shoud get export a one videofile (mpeg2 D-10, 4:2:2) with 4 audio channels (two stereo track). Audio must be .wav and PCM. The end result shoud be on channel 1 and 2, which has music, effects and narration. Channels 3 and 4, everything else, but without narration. (tv company wants to change narration language).
The problem is that Premiere Pro cs4 connects two separate stereo tracks  to one stereo track when I export mpeg2 file. Another problem is that Premiere Pro does not accept PCM audio if  I have any multiplexing setting selected. If I select none multiplexing, audio is seperate from the video file.
I have now about 150 test clips with different settings, nothing works...So, please help me! What shoud I do? Is this possible with Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder? If so, how it can be done?

I don't believe the end result is possible with Premiere Pro alone. You'll have to export out am .m2v file, and two separate .wav files.  Then look to other tools to mux them together.

  • Problems with Mpeg2 using CS5

    Hi there
I am having problems with Mpeg2s.
The sequence preset is HDV 1080i25 (50i) and exported at 1440x1080i 25 High Quality.
When I encode my video and play it back on Windows Media Player or Realplayer at certain points the sound crackles and then a couple of frames jump. I have encoded it a few times and it often happens around the same place each time. If I only encode a certain section of it the jump still occurs but at a different point. Sometimes it happens more than at others.
I encoded enough instances of the video to stitch it back together on a new sequence and encode that without any of the jumps. When I imported all of the mpeg2s on to the sequence to do this the jumping wasn't happening at all when played out on Premiere Pro. Also it doesn't happen as obviously when played in Nero.
So basically I would like to know why there is only a problem when I play the Mpeg2s in Windows Media Player and Realplayer but not when I play them within a project in Premiere Pro CS5? Is it a problem that can be fixed in Premiere Pro or whether it is a problem with Windows and Realplayer?
It is all seriously puzzling to me. I will appreciate any help directed my way, I have seen this problem on other forums but no-one seems to have an answer.
    Cheers.

I agree with Jim. Many experience similar issues in WMP, and I did not know that RealPlayer was still around.
I use VLC, or MediaPlayer Classic HC (both free), and find them much better than WMP, in almost all respects. There is a similar thread in the CS4 sub-forum, and it seems that WMP is the big culprit there.
Good luck, and let us know if VLC, GOM or MediaPlayer Classic HC do better jobs, playing the files.

  • Isolating problems with MPEG2 VBR "best"

There have long been discussions here around problems with the quality of MPEG2 compression with Compressor v2.x, usually difficult to quantify or "solved" with "It doesn't work, use something else" such as a different product, Compressor v1 or a Quicktime MPEG2 export component. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I have to believe that someone who owns the code behind the Compressor product really does care to improve the quality of the compression, and is just waiting for a decent test case to figure-out what everyone is complaining about.
That in mind, I would like to propose that the most visible problems I've seen can be isolated to something to do with what is done when switching from "VBR" compression to "VBR best" compression, either in 1-pass or 2-pass mode. I would be curious if others who have had similar quality complaints could also check if they are using "VBR best" compression, such as the various default presets for "DVD: MPEG2 best quality..." which use "2-pass VBR best". In short, it seems as though one can get rid of the most serious artifacting problems by taking a "best quality" preset and changing the quality from "2-pass VBR best" to simply "2-pass VBR" (and similarly for 1-pass).
My own example: I've taken a short clip (less than 30 seconds) from the start of a recent home movie and published it along with some results on my iDisk's Public folder (Finder > Go > iDisk...): member name "dickermn" [sic], with no password. There you will find the folder CompressorTest, containing...
    -> 2006winter - a self-contained QT movie with the DV source material.
    -> dualG4 - a folder with the results of Compressor's MPEG2 compression with various settings, as run on a dual-1GHz G4 system.
-> coreDuo - a folder with the results of the same settings as above, but with Compressor run from a coreDuo mini.
-> *.png - two pairs of window-capture shots showing the same frames as compressed with "VBR" and "VBR best" settings.
Background: after having various odd and intermittent problems with MPEG2 compression results, I've used the recent upgrades to start with a clean slate: on the G4 system I ran Software Update, then removed all the components of DVD Studio Pro 4, Compressor and Qmaster, along with all preferences, application support files, frameworks, receipts, etc, as recommended in these web pages to remove these programs, then did a full install of my unversal upgrade to Final Cut Studio, and re-ran Software Update. This got me up to the current ProApps updates and Compressor v2.3.
Using only Compressor's default presets, selecting "DVD: Best Quality 150 minutes - 4:3" (2-pass VBR best, 3.7Mbps average rate), gives results with very visible artifacting. Using this same preset but changing the quality to "2-pass VBR" appears to clear up the most visible problems. Similarly, selecting "DVD: Fastest Encode 150 minutes - 4:3" (1-pass VBR) gives good results, but changing the preset's quality to "1-pass VBR best") produces visible artifacting.
For the purposes of testing, I also installed just Compressor on my coreDuo mini - a clean install - then ran Software Update to bring this to Compressor v2.3. Running the same tests as above on the Intel-based machine produced similar artifacting problems when selecting "best quality", but in different places in the media than on the G4. Using the same quality settings as above, but moving the average bitrate down to 3.0Mbps has similar behavior, but the artifacts are just more pronounced, and using a default preset with higher bitrate (5Mbps average, not included here) the artifacts are still quite visible, but less pronounced. From the 3Mbps results on the G4, the still frames captured show good examples of the problems at hand, though the artifacts are much more visible with the video in motion. These are the examples described below.
The clip shows some still titles against a still, horizontal-blurred background. At the end of the titles, the blurred background "un-blurs" and the motion starts: a horizontal pan, a wipe transition, and a downward pan. The subject is all falling snow, trees, our back deck, my son and me. The footage was taken with a consumer-grade Sony handheld camcorder.
The problems first noticable in the video appear as a blockiness to the images, particularly notable against the floor of snow where the image shifts visibly to different intensities of gray/white as the camera moves. More severe are blocks which don't move correctly with the camera, at first visible as a jerkiness to the opening background as it un-blurs, but more pronounced in the trees and decking during the downward pan at the end.
At about 14s is a good still of the blocking artifacts, seen here in the 1-pass VBR still frame. Note the large blocks in the snow in the "best" encoding, which are small enough to be lost in the noise for the "not-best" encoding. These shimmer between the different shades of gray as the camera moves.
At the last half of the clip, as the camera pans down, parts of the trees appear to jump independently of their branches. This is very clearly visible around the straight-lines of the railing in the lower part of the frame as the clip ends. The still is from about 23s into the clip, and you can see a block of the railing in the lower right which has clearly jumped-above the rest of the railing. Interestingly enough, this is the correct placement for those pixels in the next frame (as the camera continues to pan downward). In each of these "jumpy" cases, it would appear as though blocks of pixels show-up one frame early, and their surrounding blocks catch-up in the next frame (while these hold still). Again, when using the same settings without "best" quality, the jumping does not occur.
Note that with each pair of still (png) images you can group-select the pair and double-click to open them both in Preview, which allows you to toggle back-and-forth easily between the "best" and "not-best" versions. Comparing the two, you can easily spot several blocks in the frame which shift relative to their surroundings.
While I am aware that MPEG2 at low bitrates is a complicated thing (though I will leave open for debate how low 3-4Mbps is in today's world), and consumer-grade video has lots of noise which the encoder has to dance-around, I do believe it is fair to assume that the "best" settings should give visibly better results than their faster "non-best" counterparts, all else being equal - at the very least, the results should not be visibly worse. It is worth noting that the "best" VBR settings do appear (subjectively) to give better contrast or color-depth, so clearly something right is going-on - I just have to believe that there is something going awry in the whole process which creates artifacts negating the other benefits, but which, with any luck, could easily be fixed.
Please post with your comments, experiences or similar issues... or exactly what is the proper way to get this information to someone who could fix it?
    dual 1GHz G4 + coreDuo mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Compressor v2.3 / Final Cut Studio (univseral)

Well, I've found one more piece to this puzzle: hardware graphics accelerators.
In short, I tried this same test running Compressor on my G4 PowerBook (with Radion Mobility 9700) and got better results. The terrible blockiness and pixelation problems seem - dare I say it - gone from the MPEG2 video. In this regard, the video compressed as both the default "2-pass VBR best" and the same preset adjusted to use "1-pass VBR best" both looked cleaner than any of the VBR "not best" encodings produced on this machine, or either of the others.
Unfortunately, we're not completely out of the woods: the problems evidenced later in the clip - blocks which appear displaced in space/time for one frame - are still there, though they have moved to different locations in the frame.
This gets me to thinking: my PowerBook is just barely past current muster in terms of hardware-accelerated graphics (enough to run Motion, for example), whereas my other two machines are not (NVidia GForce4Ti & mini's Intel graphics). So this starts to get to the root of "If these presets don't work, why does Apple label them best - or distribute them at all?" I'm going to hazard a guess that there are various pieces to the codecs which can take either a software-only path or a hardware-accelerated path, and the bugs seen here exist only in the software (non-accelerated) path. Anyone testing on the latest top-notch hardware with a fancy-shmancy graphics card wouldn't go down that path and see any problems. And the problems are subtle enough that they'd even slip by the occasional testing of the slower path.
So now I'm out to find a more-current-than-my-PB graphics card to run the test, to see if I can get rid of the other problem. Updating to Compressor v2.3 got rid of most of the problems, and if buying new hardware is all it takes to fix MPEG2 compression, I might just spring for it - and hey, I'd get to run Motion, too.
So anyone out there with a whiz-bang graphics card care to run these tests and compare/contrast with what I've got here? I might know someone with a new MacBookPro, which I hear has a pretty current graphics chip in it...

  • Little problem with Strings.

I have an little problem with Strings, i make one comparision like this.
              String nombre="Javier";
              if( nombre.equalsIgnoreCase(output.getStringValue("CN_NOMBRESf",null)) )
Wich output.getStringValue("CN_NOMBRESf",null) is "Javier" too, because I display
              this before and are equals.
              What I do wrong?.

You are actually making your users key in things like
"\026"? Not very user-friendly, I would say. But
assuming that is the best way for you to get your
input, or if it's just you doing the input, the way to
change that 4-character string into the single
character that Java represents by '\026', you would
use a bit of code like this:char encoded =
    (char)Integer.parseInt(substring(inputString, 1),
    16);
    DrClap has the right idea, except '\026' is octal, not hex. So change the radix from 16 to 8. Unicode is usually represented like '\u002A'. So it looks like you want:String s = "\\077";
System.out.println((char)Integer.parseInt(s.substring(1), 8));Now all you have to do is parse through the String and replace them, which I think shouldn't be too hard for you now :)

  • Little Problem with Photoshop CS3

Hi, I have a little problem with Photoshop CS3, I'm not sure if this's because a Windows option that I messed up, but the thing is that I didn't touch any options, or some kind of preferences.
I'm talking about the "little windows" (I don't know the correct name) that come from, in this case, the Filter and Analysis options, they're coming down from their right side, and usually, the come down from their left side. This is really annoying.
Not big deal, but I can't really work properly. I hope you guys can help me, and this's my first post, I hope I didn't break any rule.

Thanks Mylenium, that was the problem, I don't even have a tablet, but that fixed my problem =)
    Thanks again.

  • Premiere Elements 13 , Problems with new text/titles

Premiere Elements 13, bisher keine Probleme. Nachdem die Filmlänge etwa 15 Minuten beträgt immer größere Probleme Titel/texte einzugeben. Wartezeiten sind extrem lange oder Programm stürzt ganz ab.

    High ATR,
    Computer running on Widows 7 ,64 Bit System, Service Pack 1, Processor AMD Phenom(tm) X4 945 3.00 Ghz;RAM 8 GB
    Grafikkarte: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
If the video on the timeline is longer than 10 minutes the problem will be remarkable. The response times adding a title is getting longer(2-15 seconds).
As the video is now 18 minutes the response time is after each action(resizing of letters or any changes of the text) up to 30 seconds or the program crashes completely.
    Project settings are the following:
    General HD 1080i; 29,97frames/second; Video:1920v 1080 H, 30 fps
Video: maximale Bittiefe, Dateiformat i-frame only mpeg, Kompressor MPRG i-Frame, Standbilder optimieren
The video is a mixture  of full HD videos 1920x 1080 .mov and pictures up to 4608x3456 pixels.
When the program crashes I remarked that the main memory RAM(8Gb) was fully used by the premiere program. Might there be a problem?
    Thank you for your service.

  • A little problem with color profiles

I am trying LR and so far I love it, it has successfully replaced RSP for me, and also beat Bibble which I briefly considered but didn't like due to the weird UI.
However, I have a little problem with colours, which has never happened so far with other converters, and I am hoping you can help me to solve it.
My monitor is calibrated with the Spyder and the appropriate profile loaded in the video card.
When I work on a RAW image in LR, and then export a sRGB JPG, and then open it with a browser, or the Win viewer, I see it redder. If I open the image in Faststone, I see it almost sepia.
If I export a TIFF and open it in PS, I see it as in LR, but when I export a JPG from PS (this is my typical workflow), the resulting image has the same problem.
Considering that my entire workflow is in sRGB, can anybody coach me as to the correct settings I must use in order to obtain a final sRGB image with the same colors as in LR? I think that I must be doing something wrong, as the program behaves consistently with PS.
Thank you in advance for any help you will be able to provide.
    Andrea,
    from Italy

Funny how it's only Windows users that have this 'problem'.
This is not a 'problem' at all. The only 'problem' here is that you've been used to using non-color-managed applications. Suddenly, Lightroom comes in as a mature, color-managed, program... and you're all going bonkers.
Mac users aren't going bonkers because we're used to using color-managed applications (Preview, Safari, etc. are all color-managed on a Mac).
Let me clarify for you that by 'color-managed', I mean that the software is *not only* reading the embedded profile in your image, but is *also* converting, on-the-fly, the RGB values of that image to a new set of RGB values that compensates for the native response of your monitor. Say, for example, your monitor only displays a narrow gamut of reds. Chances are, then, that LR or PS will intelligently compensate for this by saturating reds before sending to your monitor. This is how color management works. You can now imagine the disastrous effects that a bad/inaccurate monitor profile might have...
Your Windows applications, such as 'Viewer', use the Microsoft ICM 2.0 API. This *will* read the embedded profile in an image, but instead of converting to your monitor profile for output, will simply convert to sRGB. That's basically like half-a$$ color-management. Read more about it here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/reskit/prork/prdn_img_vkev.ms px?mfr=true
Firefox & IE don't even use the ICM 2.9 API, making them entirely non-color-managed. Whatever the raw RGB values are in your image, these applications spit out at your monitor.
It's very important you understand these simple concepts before proceeding any further.
    OK, ready?
The original monitor profile that came with my MacBook Pro (profiled by someone over at Apple generically for all MacBook Pro LCDs, I guess) really seems to have underestimated the gamut of my monitor. Hence, color-managed applications compensated for this be resaturating my images (especially in the oranges/reds) before outputting to monitor. Therefore, images looked really nice and saturated in color-managed applications; however, when I exported them to sRGB JPEGs and then uploaded to the web, they looked desaturated (in Firefox, NOT in Safari, since Safari is color managed). They even looked desaturated on other people's monitors (these 'other people' were your average Joes...).
I then profiled my monitor using an i1 colorimeter. A 3-D plot of my monitor profile now showed that it actually had a much larger gamut than what Apple had predicted in their profile (but this gamut was still much smaller than sRGB, or the gamut of my Dell LCD or Sony CRT, etc.). Therefore, now, LR and PS, using this new profile, showed images much less saturated. Now when I made my edits, and then exported to sRGB JPEGs, images looked slightly *more* saturated in non-color-managed applications and on other people's computers.
So, you see, your monitor profile affects how you make adjustments/edits in color-managed programs. If your hardware profiler profiled your monitor incorrectly (which I assume is the problem here), then you may be over-saturating certain colors within LR, skewing those RGB values so that a non-color-managed program, which will not re-correct these values as LR is doing, will display the image with too much, say, red.
Bad monitor profiling also explains why you see this problem only on certain images/colors... if it were a LR problem, you'd most likely see it on every export. The color variance is more than likely due to a bad monitor profile that is not accurately describing your monitor's native response... hence LR/PS are incorrectly adjusting your images before sending to the monitor.
And at this point, please don't resort to saying "but the colors in the web browser look 'right' and LR looks 'wrong'". This statement has no meaning, as what looks 'right' to you in your web browser might look horrible to someone else with a different monitor. The point of color-management is to minimize these differences. For example, I was very unhappy by how desaturated my images looked on the web compared to in PS before I calibrated my monitor. Now, images look slightly *more* saturated on the web than in LR/PS, which I'm OK with. *Should* they look the same? Heck no. Similar? Yes. Is it better if they do look the same after hardware profiling? Yes, if your main goal is web export, but, keep in mind, the only way they *would* look the same after PROPER hardware profiling would be if your monitor happened to have a very sRGB-like response (to explain this would take another few paragraphs... but you should be able to figure it out if you ponder a bit).
I hope this is making sense. Let me ask you a couple questions now:
1.) For your headshot image, IMG_8860, which colors look 'right' to you -- the colors in LR, or the colors upon export (i.e. the headshot on the left or the right in your link above)?
2.) How exactly did your profile your monitor? Was it in the dark? I had quite a bit of variance in my monitor profile depending on whether or not the Mac OS X dock was visible at the bottom of the screen -- the light from the dock leaked into the colorimeter which then led to profiles that generated yellow/green color casts.

  • Premiere Elements cause problems with Windows Media Center while streaming to TV.

I was having the following problem:
The audio from the streaming process of a recorded TV show on my HP computer to the remote receivers, a Sony Blu-ray player and/or a Sony Streaming Player, results in the loss of audio signal at exactly 30 seconds from the beginning on either devices. The video continues on as normal.
A user on the Windows 7 forum had the following possible cause and solution.  His response was as follows:
I "solved" my issue, at least partially. Turns out for me a codec installed by Adobe Premiere Elements for audio (Main Concept) was causing mfpmp.exe to fail (you should see it getting an appcrash in the event log two or three times as soon as you start playing the media remotely.) This program is used by microsoft for DRM. I went through and one by one remained the various attached (non-microsoft) modules until i found the one that caused the appcrash. I haven't fully figured out if Elements is now negatively effected, but that's for a different forum.
I tried the quick fix by un-installing Adobe Premiere Elements.  The uninstall solved my problem with Windows Media Center, but I want to re-install the software but I do not want to recreate the problem with Windows Media Center.
Is there another solution for this problem?

I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and the above mention problem reoccured.  With a little detective work I was able to determine that the file causing my problem was "mc_dec_dd_ds.ax".  I am not sure what this does to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 since I removed (renamed) the offending file.  A strange side affect, renaming the file did cause an increase volume. Strange.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - Problem with the monitor program.

Hi. I'm not able solving problems with the monitor using PremiereProCS4. When I drag a photo (also only one photo) in the timeline and play it in the monitor program, vision in the monitor program doesn't run:black monitor or a little part of the photo appear... sometimes distort colours. Asus P5QPRO, Intel 9550 and Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1024 DDR3; last gpu driver and directX are installed. Different configuration of stratch disks were tested. Where am I wrong?

    Dear Bill,
thanks for your answer and your article. I tried with your NTSC 4:3 720x480 PAR 0.9 and, "magically", no more problem!!! I used the script pocedure in Photoshop CS4 to resize my images. Now, before starting my workflow and hoping not to overuse your patience, I would like to indicate you my equipment and my target: I use a Canon Eos 7D (generally for still images, 90% are vertical, and just some videos) and I use Premiere Pro CS4 to burn a dvd (normal, 4.7 Gb or double side, more than 8 Gb) with a 16.9 lcd tv (I'm Italian); my camera save as .jpg and .raw (but why use heavy .raw files if I've to redute to 720x480?!??).
So, according to your "everyone wants the highest quality that they can obtain when doing theri videos..." and "your video project may vary, so you will need to plug in the dimensions for YOUR video project in that case", I've a question: which is the best for me?
    And then:
1 - Premiere Pro CS4 havn't a batch or a script procedure for still image like PS (only for videos)!?!
2 - Premiere does'nt allow you to import images like 4.181 Kb (a too large dimension file error appears)!
3 - In the timeline of Premiere, after you dragged images, you can select them and right click to perform "resize to frame size": it seems to run good without problem, but what appen to the photo? Which is it's pixel?
4 - In the general preferences of Premiere you can to optimize rendering for "memory" or not: which is the best for you?
5 - I attached file with a screen of something strange in Premiere: dragging an image (the first of the project) in the timeline, the timeline appears distort (you can see the part in the yellow square): then, when I render the project and play in the monitor program, it becames normal.
    Thanks!

  • InDesign CS5 causing problems with InCopy assignment file but not content files

I'm having a strange InDesign/InCopy CS5 issue (Mac OSX 10.6.6; all system & Adobe updates are current).  In my InDesign doc I have one assignment file containing two content files. All of the InCopy pieces work fine in InDesign (i.e., I can check out/in, edit, etc.).  When I go to open the assignment file in InCopy, InCopy starts to open  it but then crashes. If I try to open each content file directly in  InCopy, no problem. I've tried deleting and recreating new assignments  in InDesign, but they all have the same result in InCopy.
I think this actually is a problem with the InDesign file because if I export the InDesign file to IDML, then try to open the IDML file, InDesign crashes! I've trashed my InDesign preferences, made sure all cross-references are up to date, etc. Anybody have any ideas what else to look for in my InDesign file that might cause this problem?
    Thanks!
    Andrea

    Thanks John!
    1) Here are the first 10-ish lines from the crash report that is generated when I try to open the IDML file:

    2) That works. Moved all pages (frame threading was preserved) to a new doc, exported to IDML, opened new IDML file just fine. Woo hoo! One of my editors won't be pleased that all of the tracked changes have disappeared, but at least the file functions now
Wish I knew what caused the problem in the first place so we could (hopefully) prevent this from happening again. Any ideas?
    Thanks again for your help!
    Cheers,
    Andrea
