Premiere CS5 Video plays slowly compared to audio

Hi
Been having a bit of a hard time with PPro CS5 at the mo, what with it continually stopping (which may have been resolved by using the log in as root user method, although it still stops occasionally), I now have the issue of the video not keeping up with the audio!! DOH!!!
As I have a Blackmagic decklink Extreme card, I have seen threads that have suggested checking the "Turn off dropped frame Waring" to allow continous video playback, but when I check this the video plays slowly!!???
If anyone has some usefully answers I would be extremely grateful as I now have very little hair left!
Thanks in advance.
Dave

Hi,
My system set up is:
OS - W7 64bit
Processor - i7 880  @3.07GHz
Memory - 16GB
VIdeo card - Blackmagic Decklink HD 3d
Graphics Card - NVIDIA FX 3800
I have used TGAs sequences and movie files, SD and HD.
The strange thing is that it will play fine in Safe Mode, could this help solve the issue?
Cheers
Dave

  • Adobe Premiere Pro Video Play Issue

This is probably not an advanced question, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding an answer.  I'm trying to use Adobe Premiere, and I'm importing my video.  In the first screen, the top left video play area that I import my raw video into, I find that I'm getting a very choppy play.  The choppy play is making it difficult for me to time my cuts.  The screen image will freeze while the audio continues to play.
When this happened initially, I assumed it was my hardware.  I was running what I considered to be a decent machine, but I figured I needed a better one.  So, I went and bought a better one.  Now I'm running a machine with a Quadro 3100 graphics card.  It's an I7, quad core, about 2.8 ghz if I recall correctly.  (It's supposed to be able to over clock or boost or something, but I don't know much about that stuff.)
Anyway.  Is there some sort of setting I should be using?  Any advice would be really, sincerely appreciated.

    John T. Smith,
My apologies for not having provided more information.
What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5, and I believe I just updated it to the 5.5.2.
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
I ran the update this morning, which is why I believe I'm using the 5.5.2.
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
Windows 7, and I believe it is Professional.
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
These are Quicktime .mov files.  I'm afraid I don't have a lot of other information.  They are files that were transferred to my computer, but I wasn't around when they were initially done.
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
    No error message.
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
    The problem is consistent.
    Has this ever worked before?
I've never seen it play smoothly.
What other software are you running?
Just typical Microsoft Office programs, and Chrome, and maybe Explorer.  But I rarely run anything else while I'm attempting to work in Premiere.
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
    To my knowledge, no.
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).
    I'm using the MSI WT Series WT60 2OK 3K-615US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?
I do not know how to use this.
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?
It only happens to the raw footage and timeline footage.  The output is fine, assuming I can find the correct place to make the cuts.

  • Premiere cs5-trouble playing back in timeline. please help! (mac)

im working on a 20min video in cs5. ive opened it several times to work on it and its fine. the past few times ive opened the project it is extrememly laggy and now wont even hardly play in the timeline. half the time when i press play it wont play, where the timeslider is it takes like 30sec to show the clip its sitting on. i should mention half the clips have been worked on in after effects via dynamic link.
    specs:
    macbook pro
    2.3ghz intel core i7
    16gb RAM
    nvidia geforce GT 650m
i know when im working on school computers (windows) they tell you to set the scratch disks to different drives (c/d/e/ etc.)
how can i do this on a mac? is there anything i can do to speed it up or make it work since i dont want to move everything to my external and relink files (to work on a different computer)?
i tried doing a render, but it was taking forever so i cancelled it. at the rate it was going it would take 3 days to render (not export) ughhh. if thats the case, how long do you think it would take me to export it?
should i just not even bother to use premiere on my laptop?
my main concern is what can i do now about my project to make it play, as this is for a job and i need it done ASAP.
would have been done hours ago if premiere would work.
**cleaned cache. rendered audio and effects but not whole work area if that makes sense. rendering the work area would have taken forever and thats why i cancelled it.
only effects i did in AE are just a series of color corrections and a mask.
    its 1080p 30fps video.
audio plays back fine in timeline just not video

When you are rendering, are you up or down resing?  ...what do you mean?
I mean are you outputing the same file kind, size and frame rate? Do you have the "Maximum Depth" checked or "Use Maximum Quality" ticked?
i used to render out AE comps as h.264 in CS6 and put them in premiere but premiere wouldnt ever find the media and would give me a green screen so i stopped doing that. dyamic link is the only way i can get AE comps to show up in premiere though i havent tried it with CS5
Weird. I've outputed files before and imported them just like any other media files without a hitch. That is a different discussion in itself.
i dont see any preview settings in CS5
Look under the program monitor at the bottom right. Should be a drop down menu to adjust previews. Or upper right corner of progam monitor ther is a pull down menu.
Also, have you tried using Media Encoder to do the render?

  • AVI file video plays too fast, but audio and noted length correct

I have a one minute AVI file. Premiere correctly says the frame rate is 29.97 and it is 60 seconds long. But when placed in the time line the video plays at about 6x speed and is finished in 10 seconds. The audio keeps playing for the correct 60 seconds. I rendered it and no change. Any ideas?
    Thanks - Bruce

Does Streamclip allow you to choose between Type 1 and Type 2 DV AVI? If so then you want Type 2 in your conversions.

  • Video Play slowly with WIFI Connect for TC & Macbook Pro

Why the movie play slowly when I use the wifi connection for TC & Macbook Pro?

If you hold down an "option" key while you pull down the Wi-Fi menu-bar item on that MacBook Pro, what value do you see for "RSSI"?  If it's in the range of -60s to -90s, then your Wi-Fi connection may be too weak.

  • Premiere CS5 crashes at start and losses audio

    Hi everyone,
Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find any answer on my search.
I have a problem which has been haunting me for a good couple of months and I'm really fed up now. Two months ago I started using Plural eyes to sync my different video and audio files into the timeline. I believe Plural eyes syncs your clips and converts stereo audio into dual mono clips. Everything fine so far, I editing for hours, save my project and the next time i open it.....voila! Premieres crashes when loading and says: 'Premiere has encountered an error [..\..\Set\Clip\MasterClip.cpp -2802]' (see image below)
This means that the project becomes unusable as i can't open it at all. Great. The only workaround is to import the entire project into a blank project......and this would be a great solution only if Premiere hadn't lost every single audio in the timeline. And that means every single one (see image below)
The only workaround is to reconstruct every single piece of audio every time or to leave the computer on forever and ever.
Needless to say that this is a v serious bug which i don't believe is related to Plural eyes but Premiere mishandling files. Has anyone found this problem before? I can't really keep on working like this and i'm even considering switching NLE as this is incredibly frustrating.
    thanks in advance

    thanks for replying Andrey.
I've been doing a bit of research and I just discovered a blog entry by Adobe announcing the PremierePro CS5.5.1 update. One of the points at the bug fixes section mentions:
"Projects created by importing Final Cut Pro XML projects that contain multiple mono clips would lose some audio when the project was closed and reopened."
    http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining
It doesn't mention the crash but I think this is exactly what my problem is as you have to import the Final Cut Pro XML file generated by Plural Eyes.
I guess the bad news is, I can only get rid of the problem by paying the upgrade to CS5.5.
    Unfair!!
    thanks

  • Premiere CS5 Video playback problems

    Dear All,
I hope someone can help me out!
I have finally managed to get the 64-bit upgrade sorted out. However, most of the time I try to start my trial version of Premiere, I get an error message saying "CS5 has stopped working". No explanation. Nothing. It just doesn't open.
However, if I persevere long enough, after four or five attempts to start the program, it will inexplicably do so. My problem THEN is that a project I saved in CS4 seems to load OK but then I cannot get the video footage (unrendered) to appear in the preview window. Which makes the whole thing useless really.
If I then click in the preview window, the footage WILL appear but only as a still on whatever frame it happened to be on. Again, making the entire shebang useless.
So, if anyone has any brilliant tips on why these things are happening, do let me know. I feel like shooting someone! LOL
I am quite happy to buy a copy of this thing IF I can be sure it will work. But I fail to see why Adobe are pretending these problems don't exist. No help from the support team via phone at all.
    Thanks

Thanks for the welcome. I'm no expert on this subject so I'm not even sure I would know where to check the video-card driver. LOL.
All I can say is that the trial version of Premiere CS4 had no such problems on this laptop. I'm now using Windows Vista, Home Premium, 64 bit. The CS4 trial ran fine on Windows Vista 32-bit (as it was before I upgraded) so I'm unsure why Adobe would have moved the goalposts in that regard?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Embeded video plays slowly

I have imported an FLV and chosen the "Embed video in SWF and
play in timeline" option. Looks fine, but it plays more slowly than
    the original video--about 20% slower I would guess. I cannot find a
reason or way around this. Any guesses?

Also keep in mind that the videos are being read off your drive simultaneously. So, a major bottleneck is drive read time. It's trying to read 3 video streams and pump all that data do the graphics card.
One way around that is to simply wireframe the video. Then when you're done with all your design around the position etc you can render the actual video so it's in RAM instead of on the drive.
If you're not on some kind of RAID the drive reads are going to kill your performance.

  • Video preview is playing slowly with "jumps"....

    Hi,
I just captured some video from my DV camera, and wanted to edit it, but unfortunately I am unable to do so since I can only see the video preview playing very slowly.
I created a new sequence, and dragged the captured video into it.
Then on the main premier screen I can see the project frame, a "source" frame, a "program" frame, and a "Timeline" frame.
Trying to hit the play button on the "program" frame start playing the video, but slowly. I can hear the video sound running normally but the video is playing slowly then it should, and I can see the seconds and mil-seconds running but slowly when the seconds jump up and down like in : 111111122211222222333223333334443344444 and so on and the video have some jump all the time.
Does anyone know what might be the problem?
The file that was saved on the disk is playing normally using other media tools.
I hope I explained myself clearly, but if not please let me know.
    Amir

    Hi,
    Thanks for the quick replay.
I did read the guidelines, but I guess that because I tried to be very detailed, it became messy.
    I will try again.
I have attached a screenshot of the screen.
As you can see in the screenshot, there are two yellow squares.
Trying to play the video in each one of then will make the video play slowly, and in slowly I mean that every "second" (which is 25 frames...) take a little longer, and in that period of a little more then a second the move "jumps" a little bit back and continue to play... then on the next "second" the same thing happen and so on.
Playing the video and pressing on the "Shuttle" button with the mouse will cause the video speed to change, but the video will play smooth.
I hope this is more understandable and if not please tell me which information to add to make it clearer...
    Thanks
    Amir

  • No audio when video plays on iPOd

I had the 60GB iPod and I used to put videos on it. It was fine. Then I got the 80GB and reformatted my computer. Now the videos playing do not have audio. When I click on the 'properties' tab the format of the video is unknown. OK, i am aware that not all formats are supported, but c'mon I have like 10 videos and I'm sure they would work fine. So what am I doing, if anything, wrong? Thanks.

  • Premiere CS5.01 stops playback..why??

    Hello,
I looked into search forums first but couldnt find my problem solved unfortunately:
    I edit 5D material on Premiere  CS5.01 .
Quadcore 64bit Win 7 Ultimate 8GB RAM, extra 2x 2TB HDDs, Blackmagic Decklink 3D Extreme
I could edit and playback, but what keeps happening more and more is:
I play the timeline and it just stops when at the cut from one clip to another.
If I hit play again it goes again for a clip or two or three then it stops again at the cut of a clip
( in fact if I go back in the timeline it seems to keep the playback until a not played clip, then it stops again...)
I checked the audio But i cannot change ASIO if Blackmagic Audio is set standard.
I tried "Premiere Pro WDM sound"  instead as a standard and checked 32bit on in- and output, but that didnt do anything...
This is really frustrating. Any ideas?
    Thanks!!
    Christian

    Hi,
I'm having a similar issue with my Blackmagic Decklink card in PPro CS5. I have checked the "Turn Off Dropped Frame Warning" and the video does play continously, but now lags behind/plays slowly compared to the audio, did you ever have this problem? also did you get an answer with regards to being able to change the resolution?
    Cheers

  • .avi video clip audio not working in premiere pro but play is windows media player

    Hi all,
Using .avi video files. They play fine in windows media player. In premiere pro, the video plays fine, but there is no audio. When moved to a sequence, it builds an audio track, but it is silent. Any help is appreciated.

  • Quicktime audio & video out of sync in premiere cs5

i filmed a video using the built-in isight camera in my new macbook pro and the QuickTime video recorder.  the videos look and sound fine, but when i put them into adobe premiere cs5 for editing, they audio and video get out of sync.  how do i keep this from happening?
    thanks!

In most cases I convert to PNG format (Portable Network Graphics) rather than JPG. File sizes are larger than JPG but rarely prohibitively so (and if they are I will then use JPG) .
Importantly, for this generally insignificant increase in size, you get a perfect lossless graphic with PNG.
For example this whole screen capture (1920 x 1200) shot is:
      694K  PNG (lossless)
    2,341K  JPG (lossless)
      493K  JPG (standard lossy)
Note that the forum scales images for display. To actually see it at full resolution you would right-click the image and 'Save As Image ...' to then view it in your favourite image viewer (I use VuePrint, XN-View and FutureixImager to view images).
