Premiere CS6 corrupt project files

Project was saved, premiere closed. Opened one more time all ok and after couple minutes my pc has no electricity. Tried after this to open my project and I get it's corrupted.
Tried this and nothing.... Please help! important project!
Create a new project
in Media Browser, go to the old project. When you double-click it, you'll be able to see all the contents--sequences, bins, assets...
try importing your sequences one by one

I've made it habit to save incremental copies of my projects, often.   Also, before closing a project.  I save it, and then I save an incremental copy of it.  i.e. project_name_001, 002, 003, etc.  Whenever I encounter a project that fails to open, and it happens about once a month or so, I simply fall back to the previous copy.  In fact, I do this kind of saving for everything.  There are times I've wanted to go a different direction, or screwed something up, and would open a few versions back as a new baseline, rather than starting all over again.  It's a good habit to have, especially when you consider that I could have a dozen or more active projects in various stages, (it never gets boring where I work).

  • Premiere Pro CS6, large project file size - crashing etc

Working on a project in Premiere Pro CS6 - also incorporating after effects and using 2 external plugins (Beauty Box and Factory Pro FX).  Project is over 500MB, lots of comps, titles etc.  project seems to be corrupt on my machine. .The project crashes continually. I cannot save my work, I cannot export, I cannot create XML and media is linking incorrectly.  When I pull the project in on my laptop (separate machine) which has CC 2014 running, the project is FINE.  That said - I need to work off of the more powerful machine to do this job - so need to find a way to troubleshoot.  Note - project opens on my partner's machine, she can save + export, etc - however the media in still linking incorrectly on her machine as well (note partner does not have the 2 plugins, beauty box and factory Pro FX) - that said, it still links to the wrong media.
We have worked out a work-arond where we pull all of the AE sequences out of Premiere and into separate AE project which has made the project workable again but we know something is WRONG and we need to fix for future ASAP.
    please help!
    thank you

  • Project Bloating and Repair in Premiere Pro CS6; Max Project File Size? Adobe Coders Welcome...

    Greetings.
After a few browsing sessions, I haven't found direction for a specific problem within a project bloat. First and foremost; we're always backed up. I have a restoration copy of the project that I will reference herein. Check that off the list.
Numerous people have posted here and around Creative Cow with problems regarding an expanding file size using CS6; watching files go from 300mb to 2.8gb. The unfortunate problem is when the project crosses a magical line that results in an inablity to open, import, export, or access sequences contained therein. Has anyone addressed a solution to repairing Premiere CS6 save files? Reducing file bloat? I haven't seen anything (recall the FCP7 repair days... solutions existed because problems were frequent; thankfully not so bad with Adobe).
Does anyone inside the code size know the maximum project file size that Premiere can read? I created a monster... Over 200 sequences utilizing 4.5TB of footage, stretching from Red codecs to EXCam to MPEG4 and H264. And for some time, the project size was manageable. Then, it inflated. And one day, randomly stopped opening. None of the auto-saves open.
Just curious. Files aren't the problem, but the 2.8GB save file is. Machine specs // etc. are openly available if required; no bad ram, no problems with all projects (just this one beast).
    Cheers,
    Jon Michael Ryan

  • Photoshop file laid over a .mov from LiveType corrupts project files

I have an edited sequence in FCE 3.0 At the beginning in V1 is a 7 second .mov title created in LiveType: the usual thing - squiggling text appears over an animated background using the Texture > Liquid > Silver. In V2, and overlapping the .mov is a Photoshop file (.PSD). It has one layer which has an image occupying half of the layer which is otherwise transparent. (By "overlapping" I mean that when the Playhead is over the .mov it is also over the Photoshop file). The Photoshop file is shorter than the .mov and its right hand end is aligned with the right hand end of the .mov. The Sequence in the Timeline is of course rendered. The result is that the title appears and then the Photoshop image overlays it. Fine, it works.
However, if I save the Project file, quit FCE then relaunch it and load in the Project file, I get "Unable to Open Project File". Exactly the same occurs with another (different) Project file which also has a (different) LiveType title overlaid with a (different) single layer PSD file with a transparent background. I have no other Project files with a PSD overlay. The problem occurs only when I include the PSD file in V2, even without the .mov file.
The LiveType .mov and the PSD file was dragged from its Mac folder on to the Browser then dragged from the Browser to the Timeline. The PSD file appears in the Browser as a Sequence. I deleted FCE's Pref. files, uninstalled and re-installed FCE, Repaired Permissions, rebooted - no help. Other Project files are OK.
I have read www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop6.html Part 3 mentions the use of overlaid PSD files with transparency, and mentions creating a new Channel and converting to a PICT, but unlike the graphic in the site page, my Photoshop (version 7) does not offer the choice of a PICT - just PSD or RAW - so no help there.
It seems clear that the PSD file is the problem. Can't FCE handle them as overlays? Any ideas please on how to get the effect that I want?

  • Recover Corrupted Project file

I got this message when trying to load a WIP file: "The project could not be loaded, it may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I've searched the forums as well as on other sources on how to deal with it. So far I've tried:
    1. Check files on AutoSave folder. No luck. All 5 files gave the same message
    2. Fix XML with XML wrench. Tried the "Check is Well Formed" & "Check is Valid" and both said ok"
    3. Restarted PC. Same thing.
    4. Move project and working files to other folders - same.
    5. Created a blank project and tried to import sequence - no sequence show up.
    6. Import from After Effects and Exported - no luck as well. Came up with a message saying there's no valid sequence.
Would appreciate if anyone can help look into my project file to see if this is salvagable. The file looks ok, but it just won't load for some reason.

Thanks in advanced for your help.
    Some info:
    Adobe Premiere Pro 6.0
    Windows 7 64bit
    Using Plural Eyes plugin

For what's worth, after hours of searching online for a solution and tinkering with the XML file, I managed to figure out how to salvage my project. What I did was to import my file into After Effects, and then single out the sequence I need, then went to Adobe Dynamic Link and created a project file in Premiere. Then I copied the sequence from AE and pasted it into Premiere, and deleted (what I took a while to find out) a screwed up sequence from the project and saved the project and ta-da.. it now opens fine.
I'm still unsure why the 1 or 2 sequence is causing the project to be corrupted, but I don't have the time to investigate as I need to complete this project asap.
Thanks to all that have helped.

  • Importing from a DVD into Premiere CS6 and MPG files.

HI I'm new to this forum and to CS6. I'm well versed in CS3 Premiere and other earlier versions.
I have a problem importing the VOB files from a DVD into Premiere CS6. I copied the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD onto my hard drive and successfully imported the 3 VOB files that made up the 1 hour video. Upon placing them into a sequence (720 x 576 25fps DV PAL to match the DVD) I found that when I played over a join between the VOB files, the picture and sound briefly broke up. Is this normal? There is no encryption on the DVD.
I then used MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD to a MPG2 with MP2 audio file (thereby avoiding a decode and the subsequent recode when I encode the edited version, I.E. DVD is MPEG2 so I want to extract the video with the minimum of processing.) I tried to import this into Premiere but after it thought about it for a while, the resulting icon in the Project Window indicated that the file was not usable. Indeed it was not. I deleted it...... and then imported it again. It worked! This is not just a one-off occurrence. Any thoughts?
Premiere is fully updated along with all the other programs in CS6. Using Windows 7 64 bit.
    bye Andrew

    I have same issue too.
    Who can help me
Used "Media Encoder"  encore three . VOB(form DVD) files to WMV.
And used Premiere to import the file between the VOB files,
    the sound briefly broke up.
If change to import .VOB form dvd,the sound briefly broke up too.
    thanks!

  • Premiere CS6 ignores preview files

I've just moved over from FCP to Premiere and I'm having some teething problems.
I have created an XDCAM HD 1080p timeline, made my film and graded it.  I have then applied "Render Entire Workflow" so that I can watch the sequence without any dropped frames.  The preview render files are saved in my documents folder on my machine.  But after saving and reopening the project, I have to re-render the whole sequence again.
It's as if Pr can't find the preview files.  The scratch disk is pointed to the right place and the files haven't been deleted.
Ha anyone got ideas on what's happening?
    Thanks,
    Dan
    Computer specs:
    Premiere CS6.0.5
    MacOSX 10.6.8 3.2GHz Intel Core i3
    12GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Update:  After adding some audio to 5secs of the film, the whole film needs rendering again.

No I set the Preview files to my documents.  The footage is stored on an Space server.  Oringinally I had the preview files to follow the project, I had the same problem, so switched to keeping it locally.
The disk location for the Media cache is local(library/application support/adobe/common) but in a different place to the preview files.  "save media cache files next to oringinals when possible" is unchecked.  I'm not sure if any of this will have  an effect?

  • Premiere Pro corrupted project

Well this is just great. My project will not open anymore. All my auto-saves are from the same day so none of them will open anymore. I have absolutely no idea why not. It won't open even if I move all my media files elsewhere (not even offline helps).
Anyone else experienced something like this? This is pretty bad. If it helps I've uploaded the project file here:
    http://hmcindie.pp.fi/vesa/
    Thanks.

    jportx:
What version of Premiere are you running? I tried to open your project with Premiere CS3 at home without success.
A few years back when we used the Matrox RT.X100, Premiere project file corruption happened occasionally. Since we ditched the Matrox, we have never had a situation where a Premiere project became corrupt and refused to open. We are now using CS4 at work and have had an After Effects dynamic link issue cause a *.prproj opening process go into an endless loop. We were able to find a work-around for that.
I was able to open your project in Notepad. The Prproj's are XML files with a *prproj extension. If you change the extension to *.xml, you can open them in Dreamweaver. The problem is, these documents contain so much information, I'm not sure if even the engineers who invented the format could spot an error within a reasonable time frame. A software *.prproj repair utility would be a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, I don't think there is one.
You said the auto-saves appear to be corrupt going back a ways. Can you remember if you closed and re-opened the main project within the time frame when those auto-saves were created.
System Mechanic has some great tools for finding and repairing hard drive errors. The fully functional program is available to use as a 30 day trial at iolo.com.
I'm not really sure if an MFT hard drive error could cause Auto Save files to become corrupt. I mentioned in a previous thread that when we used the Matrox card, I did an experiment and changed just one character (manually with Notepad) within a *prproj. The project file would not open and the dialog said the project was corrupt. So I can tell you that *.prproj's will not tolerate even the slightest error. I would let a complete System Mechanic hard drive diagnostic run all night.
Could you post your system specs?

  • How can you fix corrupt Project Files in Final Cut Pro X?

    Hello All,
I have reason to believe that one of my project files in Final Cut Pro X is corrupt.
How may I begin to resolve this issue?  Is there a third party software someone could recommend, like Digital Rebellion (if they have software for FCP X, I'm not sure) that may improve, if not hopefully solve this issue?
    Many thanks!!
    Molly

    Had a similar problem.
    Follow it here:
    http://www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/11076-freeze-during-export
among other steps taken I used Corrupt Clip Finder to isolate/remove the culprit and all was OK after that
no idea how/why the file ( which I''d been using over 5 previous versions) became corrupted

  • Problem with Premiere Pro CS5 project files bloating

Has anyone had the same problem that we're experiencing? - we have Production Premium CS5 installed on a machine with Win 7 Pro x64. We have three separate edits all of which are experiencing bloating of the .prproj project file. Often this bloating seems to occur when no importing of assets has occured, just changes in the edits. A project which started at 5mb has bloated to 1.5GB and we can no longer save it. Another project has bloated to 200mb and continues to grow in size. We have not brought in any weird assets, although we are using hi-def footage.
We upgrade from CS3 and never had this problem using Premiere CS3.
We can't fix the problem by 'remove unused footage' as this doesn't reduce the project size, although it does remove the unused footage.
We can't fix it by importing the project into a new clean project as the problem and huge file size just comes with
We can't fix it by using the project manager to collect up the project as it requires to save before collecting and the problem files can't be saved.
A couple of points to note - these projects were originally on Premiere CS3 and were upgraded to CS5. The footage is either Sony EX3 or Canon 5D - both HD.
The machine it's running on has 8gb of RAM.
Currently the projects I'm working on are gradually grinding to a hold with no way to make the files usable again.
Any suggestions are greatfully recieved as I'm at a loss. I've reported this to Adobe, and will report back if I get anything useful.
    thanks.

    TClark,
I'm shocked that you are having the same problem on a mac. This seems to suggest a problem that could be really widespread. You've also beaten my 1.5GB file bloat size.
What the hell is going on with Premiere Pro? I'm surprised to have heard nothing from Adobe either via my support request or on this forum, save for Jeremys useful work around, considering how serious an issue this is.
I've had to break all the projects I'm working on which have multiple timelines in each project into a new seperate project per timeline in order to reduce the file bloat problem and reduce the risk of me loosing all my work in one go on a bloated file.
Adobe - we could do with some help here. It's frustrating to have spent so much money on licences for this software only to have virtually non-existant help when a serious flaw in the software manifests itself.
    Nat
Yeah...it's really a bummer that no one is acknowledging it.  It's pretty serious!
I hope Dennis jumps in soon!

  • Can Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 open Adobe Premiere Elements 9 project files?

I am trying to edit a video in Premiere Elements 9 but I would like to open the final project file in Premiere Pro to export because of the better options available. Will Premere Pro be able to open the project file?

Try it and you know it. But short, nope.

  • GB Creating Corrupt Project Files

Hi. I've been working with GB and GPO (Garritan Personal Orchestra) for a video project. A had a Project open (a fairly large one) and was frequently "saving" to the project on the Mac HD. I have encountered problems with GB crashing and the project files being used becoming corrupted in the past week. But I can't figure out what's causing the problem. This time I saved the project, opened up a track volume control for one track (Out of the 20 or so tracks) and clicked on one point and the big picture in the Software Instrument went black and GB crashed. The Relaunch dialog window came up. At that point, the project was corrupted. I now have two .band files that don't have a thumbnail preview when looking at them in the finder. GB says "Read Error: Illegal format of file. Abort" when I try to open them. Any help on more of what's causing this problem rather than how to fix the corrupted files (Even though that would be fantastic) would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Lojimek

Sorry I don't have any insight as to possible causes (do you Lock as many tracks as possible)? but here's HangTime's tutorial on rescuing corrupted files:

  • Importing Premiere cc 2014 project file

Is it possible to import a premiere pro cc 2014 project file into premiere cc?  One guy at work has 2014 and I have just regular CC.

    Hi,
No you wont be able to open premiere pro cc 2014 project in cc.
In order to open the project in cc, you need to export an xml and import it in premiere pro cc.
But you will loose titles and effects used in the project.
    Thank You

  • Premiere CC corrupt project and autosaves -  Is your project really saved?

My Project file has become corrupted along with the last 5 Autosaves.
It could have been an extra project I imported into this one that had a missing unlinked file in it... or the only other thing that changed on the time timeline was the use of the standard reverb plugin.
One thing that is disturbing about this is that you can be saving your project and autosaving but not knowing that your project has now become corrupted. Do we really have to go through the extra step of saving then closing down the project then reopening just to make sure we have a secure copy?
Is there anyway to recover these projects?
This is a link to it... btw its 1.34 gigs
    Dropbox - JAN 13 CUT.prproj

You can try importing the project into a new project.
I know it's too late for this advice now, but never rely on autosaves in any software application.  Always save intermediately as you progress, along with backup copies.
