Premiere CS6 media browser keeps refreshing

I teach a high school Multimedia course. We have Premiere CS6, and when trying to import footage from an ACVHD footage from a Canon Vixia camcorder, the media browser is constantly refreshing, making it impossible to import, sometimes wasting an entire class period. This is unacceptable. I have read in other forums that this issue was resolved in CC updates of the software, but we are only licensed for CS6 with no plans or budget in the near future to upgrade. How can this be resolved? If there is no fix for this in CS6, I will be having some serious regrets for deciding to switch from FCP to Premiere this year. Any resolution to this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks -

  • Force iMovie's media browser to refresh albums in iPhotos without restart of iMovie

Is there a way, while in iMovie, to force the media browser to refresh without restarting iMovie?
Often I will add an image to the album in iPhoto and command tab back to iMovie to use it. Yet, it is not there unless I close out of the app. Is there a way to refresh the media browser?

iMovie can take a age to load once you have filled it up with a load of video hence why a refresh feature would be great.
Im regularily importing music into itunes mid edit and having to shut down and restart iMovie which is frustrating as you loose where you are and can sometimes boil a kettle whilst waiting for it.
I havent investigated a direct import into iMovie yet which might be easier.

  • Media wont load or freezes when viewing in Premiere Pro CS6 Media Browser

Adobe support contacted me on the phone and said that its a known issue if you have multiple formats or codecs when you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze. The Adobe support Tech said he would call back, but had  to further research the issue. Its been over 3 weeks and I  never heard back?
Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude when trying to view media in browser wont load or it freezes during viewing in media browser. I downloaded CC version and it works fine in both app. I reinstalled both Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude app to rule that out, deleted pref as well.

    Hi Zencuts,
When you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze.
I'm not seeing that behavior with various kinds of media. If it's a known issue, it's the first I've heard of that.
Do you have the latest update of Premiere Pro CS6 and Prelude CS6? You can try Help > Updates to make sure. I see you have an iMac on OS X 10.9. What kind of media are you using? Which GPU is in the iMac? Have you updated the drivers recently?
Your issues may well have to do with your installation of OS X, as well. Certain ways of updating to OS X 10.9 can reset permissions in your Adobe folders so that can cause problems. See this doc: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)

I'm not sure how you got through to support with a CS6 issue, as phone and chat support is no longer available for CS6 users (except installation issues in the first 90 days and activation issues thereafter). Forums are the only option for support for CS6 users, sorry. That said, the agent should not have promised you a call back and not followed up in some form or fashion. I will see if I can look up the case and let the agent know their error.
    Thanks,

  • CS6 Media Browser Problem

When using the Media Browser in Premiere Pro to view files in a folder that contains many files (100+), the browser keeps jumping back to the beginning after viewing a few of dozen files.  I then have to scroll back down to the last place I was and then I can continue a little further before the browser jumps back to the beginning again.   The files do not open instantly -- there is a finite time where the message "processing ..." is displayed.  I gave up before getting to the end.   I doubt that I have an under-resourced computer since it is a i7-3770K with 32GB RAM and a GTX670 card.  Is there a limit to the number of files that can be viewed in the Media Browser?  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
P.S.  Just did a search on the problem and I see that it is a well known issue.

    Hi guys !
Just wanted to post because we had the same problem on 4 different computers with different configurations.
It was really annoying to have this jumping/refreshing media browser problem. At a point, that this browser was useless.
Then we had a problem with droping sound editing r3d code... Kind of a deal breaker, when the company claims that you can edit 4K r3d files no ?
We finally figured out that the Media Cache and the Media Cache files NEEDS to stay in the original folders (C:\Users\nameofuser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common).
Even if everybody on the web tells you to dedicate a single SSD just for the media cahe, it won't work for Premiere pro. DON'T MOVE THOSE FOLDERS !
Removing those folders to the original place (C:\Users\nameofuser\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common) [again]  solved the problem for us. Hope it will work for you guys.
Don't blame Adobe, i'm sure they'll read my post to fix this in the next version of premiere

  • Premiere CC media browser too slow

    Hi guys,
I'm having some problems to read RED files on media browser on CC.  It's too slow.  I ran some quick tests here.  In CS6, create a new project and chose a drive in media browser. It read the files in 21 seconds.  In CC, create a new project and chose the same drive in media browser. It read the files in 1 minute and 40 seconds.  I really enjoy editing in CC but this issue is killing me.  Does anyone have a clue?

    Hello VaughnByrd21,
It's taking a half an hour to render 5 minute clips and over an hour to export them...sometimes an hour and a half.
Can you post a screenshot of your export settings dialog box?
...it seems like Adobe has put us on the back shelf, and continues to crank out software that we desperately need but that won't run on a professional level on our systems.
Have you adjusted the permissions of your Adobe folders? Updating OS X can change them randomly: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
NVIDIA drivers are not doing very well lately either with CUDA and Mac OS X Yosemite. For sure, switch both Premiere Pro and AME to OpenCL mode until they fix those drivers.
These issues have more to do with OS X and NVIDIA drivers, nothing to do with Adobe applications—so it's not always our fault when things go wrong.
You should also try deleting your media cache, which you can find in Preferences > Media (click the Browse button). That fixes a lot of issues.
Please also consider trashing preferences and repairing disk permissions.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • PP CS6 Media Browser displays thumbnails upside down

    Hi,
    I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro 17" 3.06 GHz, 4GB RAM,
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GT, OS 10.6.8 and PP CS6.02.
When I'm viewing stills in media browser, it's displaying many of the thumnails upside down and side ways.
Not sure what else to say about it or do.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

PP won't reorient stills that were taken with the camera turned on it's side for portrait shots, so I wonder if that's what you're seeing here.  The shooter had the camera turned or even upside down at the time.

  • External Hard Drives not showing up in Premiere Pro Media Browser

Hello All!  My external drive(s) aren't showing up in Premiere Pro... and yes, they were working just fine yesterday.  The internal drives both show up, but the external drive(s) aren't accessible.
At first I thought that perhaps it was the drive (a new USB 3.0 that worked yesterday)... I tried changing the cable, changing the drive, even changing from a USB 3.0 drive to a FW 800 drive.  All show up on my desktop, as well as in other applications (including After Effects, and "other" editing platforms) etc... but none are showing up in Premiere Pro.
FWIW, I tried in both Premiere Pro CC as well as Premiere Pro CS6.  I have tried rebooting the computer, creating new projects, holding down the option key while starting Premiere, using Digital Rebellion's CS Repair... all to no avail.  Any thoughts?
My system is a MacBook Pro (late 2011), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB Ram, running Mac OS X 10.8.5
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • Premiere CS6 media re-linking issue. (Screenshot of error inside)

That is a screen-shot if the issue I am having with premiere.
A little back-story so I was working on a project I transferred over from Final Cut Pro, all the media linked up and played back nicely now when I reopen the project it give me this error and I do not know how to alleviate the issue.
And I need to get this worked out so I can get this project off ASAP.
If you have any suggestions on how to get Premiere to reling the media properly I would greatly appreciate.
Also this media is transcoded in Apple Prores 422 but that did not seem to be an issue when I origionally moved the project over.
Any info you need I will happily supply it.

Was the media intitially folder dependent (like AVCHD, P2, etc...)? If so, did you import the parent folder or just the media from within the video folder?
I've found cases where it's throwing that error on things like Proxy (mp4) or Icon (bmp) files during relink, which can just be skipped. So if that's the case, just offline or skip those and you should be ok. However, I've found other' less explicable cases, where relink jsut doesn't like the codec for a particular file, and for that I have no workaround at this time. You would need to re-import it and try to re-edit it in to match the original. Not too bad if it's just one or two files, but if its dozens or hundreds or more, practically impossible.
I'll upadet bac here agin if/when I come up for a solid workaround for that second case... but hopefully it's just the first case for you.

  • Premiere CS6 media offline question

Hey folks! Kinda stuck here...I've got a large project using dozens of files (kept on a 4TB hard drive) and about 90% of the media is offline. I can't figure out why some is and some is not. The project uses footage from 3 cameras, multi-cam edits and there are 13 nested sequences, as well. When I go to reconnect the media, the files show up on the hard drive, but it's a Unix Ex. File, not the video files. I am beyond perplexed. Any advice?
    Thanks!

    Could be an OS issue.
What do the files look like in the Finder?
If they display the wrong icon, perhaps cleaning the System Caches with a IceClean or Onyx would help.  Or just run the whole suite of cleanup utilities.
If they only look wrong in Pr, I'd delete the prefs.  If that doesn't help, I'd reinstall Pr.

  • Why does browser keep refreshing every few seconds. I keep getting kicked of of sites that require log in because my browser refreshes and sends me back to log in page.

I use the same plug-ins i always have, with the exception of faster fox. I got the plug in off of c-net. The first thing I did was disable that plug in. I do remember at one point i used to have a plug in that allowed you to set the refresh intervals. I don't remember which is was though as I got rid of it a long time ago. I have checked every option I can think of to no avail..please help.

If you have an infected system, Firefox will get infected no matter how many times you reset it. Refer to a specialized forum to clear the malware from your system.

If you haven't disabled the malware and phishing protection features, and you have a good and up-to-date anti-virus, then visiting web sites shouldn't be an issue. Installing questionable software on the other hand allows malware to do anything on your system.

  • Canon XF Import Causes Premiere CS6 to Crash.  Help!

I purchased a Canon XF300 to work specifically with Premiere CS6 as Adobe claims native support for MXF files.
Unfortunately, whenever I import footage from the XF300 into Premiere, it causes Premiere to crash.
This happens no matter what method I use to import the files... using XF Ultility, using Prelude, clicking on import in the Premiere CS6 media browser, opening the files in the media browser and dragging and dropping into a bin.  It doesn't matter.  The crash still happens.
This is not an issue with spanned clips as it happens even without spanned clips.
After importing the clips into a bin, the bin has trouble drawing thumbnails for all the clips, usually but not always the ones not initially visible in the bin window.  The thumbnails don't appear, just gray boxes.  Scrolling down and clicking on the gray boxes, even after waiting several minutes for the system to "catch up," causes a crash.
This is a repeatable problem that *only* happens when using Canon MXF footage.  Every other codec I've tried works just fine.  The Canon footage never works.
I am on a Mid-2012 Mac Pro 2x 3.06 GHz 6-Core Inten Xeon computer running 64GB of Ram on OSX 10.8.3, using Premiere 6.0.2 Creative Cloud.  I use a Matrox MX02 for I/O and a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 with CUDA Driver 5.0.59.
I've troubleshot this problem to death, stripping everything from the machine down to its original factory state (no extra RAM, no NVIDIA card, no Matrox I/O etc.) and the system still crashes every single time I try to import the MXF footage, no matter what method I use.  The only workaround is to transcode to ProRes and that's not acceptable.
Am I the only one having this issue?  Is there something glaringly obvious I'm overlooking?  Thanks in advance for any assistance or perspective.  I am growing increasingly frustrated as I feel Adobe has a software problem here they're not addressing.

That's the thing.  The system drive has plenty of space... 762Gb out of 1TB available.  All the HDs have a ton of space on them.  This has happened since Day 1 when the entire system was brand new.
And only with Canon XF files.  No other codec produces behavior even remotely similar on my system.  It's baffling because everyhting is up to spec as far as I can determine and yet the problem persists.
Limiting the number of clips in a bin is unworkable because of the type of work I'm doing.  Transcoding is the only answer at this point but I really would like to know what's causing this.
I really wish Adobe could try to recreate the problem.  Does anyone else out there using Mac OSX and CS6 have trouble with XF files?  Is it a known issue?

  • Media Browser contents won't refresh and update

I'm using Keynote '09. I am using the Media Browser to add photos from within my iPhoto library to my slides. I have a number of albums--many are smart albums--that don't seem to be refreshing as the iPhoto content changes. It was updating fine last night, but today the content remains stagnant even as the iPhoto version changes.
Any idea of a way to force the Media Browser to refresh itself to reflect the changes that are happening in iPhoto? iPhoto is version 8.1.2.

I have a similar issue with the Media Browser, assuming we are talking about the same thing.
I am referring to the feature within an "Open" dialog/window, such as when I am picking a file to attach to an email, or picking a photo or movie clip to include in a keynote presentation etc. There is a pane on the left of the window lists a number of locations on my computer. One of these options is MEDIA, which expands to Music, Photos, and Movies.
When I attempt to select photos while performing tasks such as those I listed, I notice that there are events missing. In fact, the events correspond to the latest few imports into iPhoto. To be clear, the photos are accounted for in a few new events within iPhoto; however, these events are absent in the Media Browser.
As far as I can tell the Media Browser has "refreshed" my Music and Movies, but the Photos portion is not updating / not synchronizing with iPhoto.

  • Working with XDCAM HD in Media Browser window (CS6)

Is it just me, or is this unusably slow?
I have a PDW-F70 deck hooked up via Firewire to my PC (Windows 7 64-bit) but when I mount a XDCAM HD disc and try to browse the contents in Premiere's Media Browser window (or in Predulde's Ingest window) then it takes what seems like forever to download and display the thumbnails and low res proxies. Is Premiere trying to do someting different?  It's so incredibly slow that I'm thinking it might actually be trying to download and cache the full hi-res media before letting me browse ... but when it finally does finish, once the clip thumbnails do eventually display, then it is still taking forever to display them in the source/external display if and when I select one in the browser window ... and heaven help me if I try to actually play one of these clips.
Does this scenario sound at all familar to anyone? I'm guessing I have a basic settings issue ... either that or I am maybe just misunderstanding how this function works with XDCAM HD in Premiere.
For what it's worth, using Grass Valley's Edius app with the exact same hardware, setup and connections etc and browsing the media using their own "Source Browser" window (which is basically their version of Premiere's Media Browser window), then I can almost instantly view thumbnails and browse the XDCAM HD low res proxies, make my selections and import whats needed ... same goes if I'm using Sony's own XDCAM Browser app.
Clearly I'm a bit lost at this point and am hoping someone can help me out.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

This is a known issue in PP.  Adobe has elevated the priority, but for now you'll just have to wait until thumbs are draw for better responsiveness.
In the meantime, please do report the bug as unusable for you.  The more that do, the more urgency will be attached to a fix.

  • OWC RAID 5 not showing up in PPro Media Browser

    Hello all,
I've seen other threads about OWC RAIDs not showing up in PPro and the solution has been to use the Mac's Disk Utility to reformat the drive.  Disk Utility can't do RAID 5 though and that's what my 16TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 is set to.  If I use the File->Import command I can see the OWC RAID but it is not present in the Media Browser (nor in the window that pops up to re-link offline media).   FCP 7, AVIC MC 6.5 and After Effects CC2014 all 'see' and interact with the OWC RAID just fine. The problem seems to be isolated to Premiere's Media Browser function.
If anyone has a suggested work around I'd love to hear it.

So it turns out the answer was in front of me all along, just use Disk Utility to format the drive and all is well.
What threw me was that Disk Utility only does RAID 1 and RAID 0 but since the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2 is a hardware RAID I just set the RAID mode using the switch on the enclosure and then use Disk Utility to format it like I would any other disk.
The simplicity of the solution coupled with my lack of experience with RAID boxes proved to be my undoing. haha.
With that being said, I'd still like to see if Adobe can fix the issue w/the default OWC formatting tool.
