Premiere CS6 Preview Link Breaking

I am in a facility that has about 20 Mac machines on a network. We all work off files located on a SAN. I am experiencing a problem with getting preview files to stay linked when the project is open on a different machine.
I ran a bunch of tests with a rendered section on my own machine. I rendered a section, saved, closed reopened on the same machine. Renders were fine. I then changed the location of the project file several times, and the renders were STILL fine, so the project path didn't make a difference (by the way, the scratch disk location is set to a folder on our SAN, NOT the default "Same as project").
Then I ran tests by rendering a section, saving and reopening that project on a different machine, and the renders disappear. Red bars all accross. Has anyone else experienced this? I tried combinations of checking and unchecking the Media cache box, as well as pointing that path to a location on the SAN instead of a local user application support folder, still no luck. Without a distributed processing option, we need to be able to render, say, overnight so the exports don't take forever.
Also, I have double checked to make sure the preview files are in fact there, and they haven't moved. I can play them in qt or quick look)
Thoughts?
Most of our machines are of the following configs
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Premiere Pro 6.0.2
Codec: ProRes LT 720 59.94
16GB RAM 1066 Mhz
Quad-Core 2.4 Ghz 2008 models
GeForce 8800 512MB (a couple boxes have Quadro 4000s 2GB, ran the tests across both configs...same problem across those options)

Premiere Pro can work with network storage if it's mounted as a network volume (Mac OS), and the OS-level device driver does not mark the volume as removable. Are you set up this way?

  • HT5409 Can you turn this function off? I am having issues linking offline media(MTS files) in Adobe Premiere CS6

New imac with 10.8.4.  With the new avchd coverter, I am not able to link offline MTS files in Adobe Premiere CS6.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adobe hasn't updated it's products to look inside the avchd packages.
You'll have to do it for them.
Right-Click on the avchd package (or whatever it is called). Choose Show Package Contents.
Keep digging into the internal packages in a similar way until you get to the folder with the mts files.
When you tell Adobe to open a file, just drag the mts file into the Open File dialog. If it cannot maintain that link, you might have to move the files to some other location Adobe can process.

  • Premiere CS6 ignores preview files

I've just moved over from FCP to Premiere and I'm having some teething problems.
I have created an XDCAM HD 1080p timeline, made my film and graded it.  I have then applied "Render Entire Workflow" so that I can watch the sequence without any dropped frames.  The preview render files are saved in my documents folder on my machine.  But after saving and reopening the project, I have to re-render the whole sequence again.
It's as if Pr can't find the preview files.  The scratch disk is pointed to the right place and the files haven't been deleted.
Ha anyone got ideas on what's happening?
    Thanks,
    Dan
    Computer specs:
    Premiere CS6.0.5
    MacOSX 10.6.8 3.2GHz Intel Core i3
    12GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Update:  After adding some audio to 5secs of the film, the whole film needs rendering again.

No I set the Preview files to my documents.  The footage is stored on an Space server.  Oringinally I had the preview files to follow the project, I had the same problem, so switched to keeping it locally.
The disk location for the Media cache is local(library/application support/adobe/common) but in a different place to the preview files.  "save media cache files next to oringinals when possible" is unchecked.  I'm not sure if any of this will have  an effect?

  • Premiere CS6 niot holding links to clips.

I recently upgraded to CS6 and am having an issue with Premiere not holding the links to clips. I import clips but then when I restart or go to another program during an editing session and come back, Premiere has lost link to many clips (not all, only some). It is especially frustrating for example as I can re-link the media, jump to Photoshop and them come back and Premiere immediately begins to locate media I had just re-linked.
I know this sounds a bit vague, but that is the issue. There appears to be no rhyme or reason. Is there something new in Premiere Pro CS6 where whenever you jump out and jump back in it trigger a media connection function?
Obviously this is just a frustration and not critical as I simply have to re-link but I would like to solve the problem as it is a time eater.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Make sure you are on the latest update.

  • AE created text is jumping and not updating for no reason in Premiere CS6

Hello, I think I found a bug. Most likely has something to do with Dynamic Link. I am creating simple moving text in After Effects CS6, and bringing the compoistion over to Premiere CS6 timeline. Occasionally, the text jumps around, or the adjustments I just made to an AE comp don't get updated in Premiere. I moved all of the data from one hard drive to another, thinking it might be the hard drive. But the error still occurs. Makes it rather difficult to work. Any chance you all can solve this one? Kind of driving me crazy since this is clearly a software issue, not a user error. I've been using Adobe software for 10+ years.

This problem continues, Dynamic Link is broken. Useless.
What version of After Effects? Include the minor version number (e.g., After Effects CS5.5 with the 10.5.1 update). 11.0.1.12
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.) up to date
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac". Mac OS 10.6.8
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime". ????
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? no error message, changes made in AE don't update in Premeiere
What were you doing when the problem occurred? working
Has this ever worked before? yes, in previous versions of AE
What other software are you running? NO!
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? Of course
Tell us about your computer hardware. Include CPU type and number of processor cores, amount of RAM installed, GPU, number of disk drives, and how any external drives are connected. Not relevant,
Do you have any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU)? Black Magic Capture Card
Are you using OpenGL features in After Effects? yes
Does the problem only happen with your final output, RAM preview, or both? both
Are you using Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing? Yes

  • I am trying to get better playback rendering speed Premiere CS6

I am new to Adobe Premiere CS6.  I am trying to get faster playback rendering speed from my machine.
    Windows 7
i7 4790K Haswell overclocked to 4.5 (watercooled with Corsair)
    16 GB DDR3@799MHz
Asus Z87-WS (4 double graphic card slots)
Geforce GTX 760 (Primary)  GPU hardware acceleration enabled
    Quadro FX5800
250GB Samsung solid state C: (Windows and Adobe)
    250GB Crucial solid state (Scratch)
    2TB Seagate 7200RPM (video files)
    3TB Seagate 7200RPM (storage)
    Seasonic 1000watt PSU
I am primarily editing GoPro videos with effects like TimeWarp or Twixtor and color correction.
I have tried to run the PPBM6 program with no success. I kept getting failure to access files.
I have been looking at adding a second GTX760 with SLI so they will work together.  And possible removing the Quadro if it is slowing things down.
Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

...are you SURE your 760 GPU is "enabled" by PPro, and giving you the option of "Mercury Playback Acceleration" under  "General Preferences" ??? If the "Mercury Acceleration" is GREYED OUT and limits you to "software Only", go to Studio 1 website and learn to apply the well known "hack" to enable your 760 in PPro,OR, download their simple program to do it for you.
...Your machine is POWERFUL....especially with your CPU overclock......you MAY want to increase your memory to 32 GB if you are using After Effects....even PPro MAY run better with 32 GB, depending on your workflow.....most systems like yours have at LEAST 32GB system memory.
.....The GoPro codec is natively HIGHLY COMPRESSED and difficult to process, even for beefy machines. That is why they provide the free Cineform tool,( which used to be an expensive professional editing codec), to convert some,or,all of your footage to a more "edit friendly" AVI codec, which will FLY on your machine. HOWEVER, those new AVI files are HUGE.....TRIPLE the original size and requiring a LARGE and FAST disk transfer system. Right now, your single 7200 drive for your media is your SLOWEST component in the chain. The CHEAPEST improvement for you would be to add another MATCHING 2TB 7,200 rpm drive to your existing one and then use the 2 drives to create a fast RAID 0 directly off the mother board to improve the speed of your "media drive". THEN, you MUST insure that this RAID 0 is DILIGENTLY BACKED UP in case of a drive failure in the RAID. This ALSO means you must protect against an unexpected power failure which could destroy the RAID data if the failure happened during a critical write operation.....so,a good UPS is required.
You can OBSERVE how the various components in your system are performing while performing strenuous tasks by bringing up the "task manager" window and watching the CPU load.... if all cores are PEGGED at near 100%, you are "CPU bound". As you are ALREADY overclocked, you can't do anything other than to TRANSCODE your footage to the free Cineform. Your ENABLED GPU can be observed....real time....using the free MSI Afterburner,( or, similar).  Certain operations are accelerated by the GPU with PPro....not ALL!!  Scaling and some effects will use use the "Mercury Acceleration" while rendering previews AND during export. In some cases, rendering previews,or, exporting can be sped up by TEN TIMES by Mercury Acceleration. Watch the "GPU Usage" on Afterburner to see if the GPU is indeed being used, and if you are "saturating" it to its capacity of 100% with accelerated effects.
Make sure your Windows is fully updated to the current time........make sure your NVidia 760 has the most recent driver and DON'T use the Quadro for now. Set your "Windows page file" to be STATIC on your "C" drive at 24GB. Disable "Hibernation" Set all drives NOT to allow "indexing". Do NOT allow any spinning HDD to be over 50% filled....performance WILL decrease.....make sure any HDD is defragged,( do NOT defrag an SSD ! ). Stop all unnecessary processes, esp. anti-virus programs, while editing. Find out how to best "tune" windows to speed it up at the PPBM 6 and 7 websites.
BE AWARE that the "run of the mill" SSDs use cheaper Sandforce controllers, and are less suited to handle highly compressed digital video files. Samsung PRO models and recent Crucial M550 series SSDs ONLY are recommended for video use. Both these non-Sandforce SSDs maintain high WRITE speeds,( over 400MB/sec), AND maintain their high speeds after reaching their "steady state" condition. Cheaper EVO series and non-Marvell controlled SSDs MAY lose their fast write speeds over time and SLOW YOU WAY DOWN !!!  Test your current SSDs by transferring large video files between them  and watching MB per second that appears under "details" in the pop up window during transfer. Make sure none are slow.....test them with HD Tune Pro as well.
Certain non-Adobe plug-ins and certain effects may NOT use all the CPU threads well,or, may not use the GPU.....forcing the CPU to do additional work. You will have to identify problem plug-ins,or, effects by switching them on and off to see if any cripple your system.
Your machine is POWERFUL.....go to PPBM7 website and read the "tweakers" page to learn more....then, register for free and TEST your machine with their video benchmark test for PPro. It should do WELL.....AND it will help identify if you have any "bottlenecks" which are impairing your system.
Good Luck !!!!!.....THEN, start using CC 2014.....like Patton said : "...all glory is FLEETING !!"......so is the lifespan of former PPro versions !!!!!!

  • MXF Files won't play in Adobe Premiere CS6

I had a music video shot on Wednesday, the cinematographer downloaded the files from the memory card onto an external hard drive.. Checked the files, they were fine, handed it off to me.  Upon trying to open the MXF files in Adobe Premiere CS6, it gives me an error code of "preview in source monitor failure" "the importer reported a generic error".    I've tried downloading codec and all sorts of things, and nothing is working.   I also tried converting the files to MOV (i paid $30 for a converter) but the converters aren't playing back the audio, (i tried 4 different converters)… I thought it was some type of error in the files, but I checked with the cinematographer, and he even played back his MXF copy of the clips for me and they have the audio in..   I'm getting really frustrated because I HAVE to have the audio in order to sync up the lip syncing with the audio track.  The cinematographer said the MXF file is an MPEG2.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?  I had wanted to have the video edited and released by next weekend.

If I double click on the word holiday, it just shows the file folders. In the file folders the mxf files still don't open.

  • Can no longer download Encore/Premiere CS6 in Download App?

First time posting on Adobe forums, please excuse any missed formalities/info
I can no longer seem to find a way to download Premiere CS6 (and in conjunction Encore CS6) after I updated my Creative Cloud App to Version 1.3.0.322. I had previously used the methoud of clicking on the "More Information" tab within the CC desktop App, getting redirected to the Adobe/Premiere page, then be able to select Premiere CS6 from the drop down under "In This Version."
This method seems to no longer work (I had downloaded CS6 stuff just a few months ago). I really only care about Encore and having a DVD/Blu-ray authoring solution (I would just uninstall Premiere CS 6 using the old method).
Is there any way to download Encore CS6 with the most updated Desktop App running on OSX Mavericks?

  • Media offline issue in premiere cs6

I recently had my copy of Premiere CS6 fixed due to a handlertitler.dll problem. However, when it was finally fixed there was some playback issues, and about a third of my media is offline. How do I relink the media to where I can hear and see my video on Premiere CS6?

Media Offline is most often caused by the links to it, which are absolute Paths, being changed. It could be a drive letter, a file Rename, or similar.
I agree with Jim, that the best course of action is to let PrPro relink that media, when it asks "Where is file ____ ?" This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4598705#4598705
    Good luck,

PS - if you have not Moved, or Renamed anything, I would definitely check my HDD's, to make sure that they are functioning at 100%.

  • Missing video transitions in Premiere CS6

    Greeting everyone,
It seems that I am missing some 3D motion transition effects in Premiere CS6. I only have Cube Spin and Flip Over, but I know (and have seen) more transitions on other people's installations. I can't seem to find anywhere to download them either. I assumed they came with base CS6, but I don't have them. Where can I download some more? Or how do I restore the ones that I should have?

  • Exporting Animated logo from AE cs6 into Premiere cs6

I have an animated logo that I would like to import into premiere cs6. When I exported it into premiere, it only imported the picture, not the background and animation along with the picture. What can I do export the logo in its entirety?

If your export does not show everything in your composition then you are looking at the wrong view in AE or you have set elements in your composition as guide layers. The only thing exported is the Active Camera view. There are also many ways to bring an AE animation into Premiere Pro. You can add the .aep to PPro and load the comp into the sequence, You can use Dynamic Link from inside the sequence to replace footage, or you can render to any one of about 10,000 different formats for use in PPro, only a very few of which are suitable for a production workflow. You have given us nothing to go on to solve your problem. If checking for guide layers and making sure that you created your comp using the Active camera view does not solve your problem then we need to know everything that is going on in your comp and exactly what your workflow is.

  • Offline editing in Premiere CS6

    Hi!
I'm thinking about to edit a feature film in Premiere putting together all the episodes of my webserie. It's an action webserie and has a lot of cuts. It is in H.264 from 7d so is very difficult to play in real time.
Are there any way to make proxies of the sequence for a more fluid edit and reconnect later with the original files (as you can do in Avid or FCPX)?

    Yes indeed!
But you will have to use the fonction "replace with" to files one by one. Then it will relink the low res files to HD files into your timeline.

Hi Denis, thanks for your help.
Yes, right now I have one of the last MacBook Pro (no retina) but only with 4Gb of RAM. But I originally edit the series in my Macpro (with 24Gb and quadro 4000) and the action sequences still had problem to play well in H.264.
My problem is that I have every episode already edit, although I'll probably change it when I mix all together.
So, I think in this solution following your advice:
•Make a Project manager of the sequences to one folder.
•Batch transcode the resulting clips to a proxy version in another folder, with different name but maintaining the original name of the clips
•Relink the sequences to the new ones
In this way I can easily switch from offline to online version, right?
