On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running? Have you updated 12 to 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
By commentary track, I am assuming that you mean Narration Track.
When did your problems start...you had audio on Soundtrack and/or numbered audio tracks, added narration using the program's Narration Tool, and then lost sound from the Soundtrack and numbered audio tracks. If you have been working in the Expert workspace of the program, please look at the problem in the Quick workspace. Also, if you start a new problem does the problem exist?

Hello, so here is my predicament:
I own Premiere Elements 7, licenesed and all. Totally legit.
It is reading .mp4 files, at least, that's the only other video file type I've used. It is reading the video of that file.
But for some reason, when I drag a .avi file into the software, it reads the file type as 'audio' when it is obviously a video file! It doesn't recognise the video of the file at all.
When I drag it into the timeline, it only shows the audio! Video section is empty.
Why is this happening?

What is the source of this AVI file? Is it from a miniDV camcorder, captured over a FireWire connection?
AVIs from non-camcorder sources can use any of thousands of codecs, most of which are not compatible with Premiere Elements. Open the file in a program like G Spot and post the specs for audio and video codecs, frame rate, dimensions, etc., and we may be able to suggest a file converter.

J’ai fait tout ce qui est indiqué est rien à faire ! Qui peut m’aider ?

No audio on Timeline Premiere Elements 13 and no longer on 12 after upgrading to 13.

On my Mac with OS X Yosemite I've worked with Premiere Elements 12 for a while and it just worked fine. Now I;ve upgraded to Elements 13 and the clips that were fine the other day have now lost there audio when I put them on the Timeline. However if I double click the clip in project assets and play it on the clip monitor everything is fine, but as soon as I send it to the timeline or storyboard the audio disappears. I'm in a spot now as I can't use 13 and neither return to Elements 12. Any ideas will be very much apprexiated.

Just a week ago I created a movie with Elements 12 on this same Mac with OS X Yosemite and ij
just worked fine. On second thoughts the movie was a bit too long, so I
imported the saved project to re-edit it, only to find out that the audio
had gone for the greater part of the clips on the timeline. I closed
elements 13 and reopened 12 and the saved project with the same result.
When you got to second thoughts, what did you do....
a. rebuild the project anew in Premiere Elements 13?
b. import the Premiere Elements 12 export in Premiere Elements 13?
c. open the Premiere Elements 12 project in Premiere Elements 13?
I ask since you cannot import one project file into another and you wrote "imported the saved project".
You wrote after the file was drag from Premiere Elements 13 Project Assets to Timeline
only to find out that the audio had gone for the greater part of the clips on the timeline.
What was gone - the representation of the whole audio clip on the audio track or just the sound
for the whole? Was the duration of the clip listed in Project Assets, the same as observed at
its Timeline level?
If you took this Premiere Elements 13 Timeline (problem audio there) to export, was there sound in the export?
If you create a project in an earlier version, it is often possible to open it in a later version to work with the project in the later version.
But, you cannot open the later version edited project in the earlier project again. So, I was not sure what you were describing when
you wrote

Please consider deleting the Media Cache Files Folder where the program saves the automatically generated conformed audio.
To locate that Folder, on Windows I could go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks/Media Cache to find location for the Media Cache Files Folder. Is that the
same for Mac?
Also, please let us know if the flawed Premiere Elements 13 Timeline audio content exports OK or contains the flaws encountered before export.
Again, please excuse if I have included things that you were already aware of. Because of the nature of your issue, I did not want to take anything for grant.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on? Can we assume that this audio plays back OK
on the same computer when you are using a computer player independent of Premiere Elements?
What are the properties of these clips that worked before but do not know with regard to sound
For now, I will assume that you are working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Have you checked the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings? Do you have any 3rd party audio devices incorporated in your computer environment?
Please delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if that does not work, then the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. The Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit path is

and, in the 12.0 Folder, is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives" active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Do you have installation files or installation disc with the purchased serial number in case we need to resort to uninstall/reinstall?

Trouble with DV Type 2 AVI audio in Premiere Elements 11

Please see the two screen captures below. G-Spot says my clip is DV Type 2 AVI which Premiere Elements 11 supposedly handles well. G-Spot says both the appropriate audio and video codecs are available on my Windows 7 x64 PC. Main Concept DV codec is installed. The camera was a Sony Handycam vintage 2000 and the clip captured by Firewire.
When I load the clip into Elements 11, the audio is compressed in length relative to the video. I get about 11 seconds of high pitched warbling and then no sound for the balance of my 67 second clip. You can see the audio profile flatten after 11 seconds in the Timeline view. I do notice that the audio preset for Elements is 48000 sample rate, and my clip is at 44100. If this is an issue I do not know how to fix it in Elements.
The clip plays fine, audio and video properly synced, in Windows Media Player and AVS Video Creator.
I am able to use AVS Video Creator to strip the audio from the clip, output it as a .wav file, and use it to replace the audio track in Elements. However, I have hundreds of clips to edit; this method will cause substantial brain damage.
Is there something I can do to get Premiere Elements 11 to process the audio properly?

Great news!
Not sure why that other app. would Encode the Audio to MP3, as that is non-standard (though MP3 is a fairly common format/CODEC - just not in a DV-AVI).
Sorry to hear that you have that extra step, with those particular DV-AVI's, but at least you do have a workaround for them.
Not sure if you will be outputting to DV-AVI, but if you do, the Audio choice would be that of the DV-AVI files that do work - PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit. That will create files, that are about as "plain vanilla," as it gets with PrE.

You can separate the audio track from video and save it to a DVD disc within Premiere Elements but not a CD disc.
To do save to the audio to DVD disc, you do not have to separate linked audio video, just use the export Publish+Share/Computer/Audio and set Presets to the wanted format (AAC, AIFF, MP3, or Windows Waveform (WAV).
You will not see Audio in the choices since it is at the bottom of the list of choices under Publish+Share/Computer/. You will need to use the thin scroll bar to the right of the choices to scroll to it.
If you need information on selective export of Timeline content when dealing with more than just this one file on the Timeline, please let us know. If you are trying to produce a CD for listening in car or CD player elsewhere, please let us know.

I need to be able to take my project from premiere elements and put it in after effects.

I need to keep the format the same, and also be able to see all individual clips and move them around/trim them in the workbar area in after effects just like what you can do in elements 11.

The only way out of Premiere Elements 11 is via export in video format (except for jpegs or audio under Publish+Share/Computer/Image or audio).
The video is whole, not in a project file (project.prel).
And, the Premiere Elements 11 project.prel does not appear to be an After Effects supported project format

Given you have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8 64 bit.
Did you update from 12 to the 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update?
What update were you referring to when you said you thought the problem might be related to an update?
We need a lot more details of "lost audio Premiere Elements 12"
Does that mean that, when you import video with linked audio into a project, you only SEE the video portion in Project Assets. No audio file seen in Audio Track 1?
Or, does that mean that, when you import video with linked audio into a project, you see the audio file but it has no sound?
There is another possibility. This is a known issue that is affecting some where sound is lost from the numbered audio tracks and soundtrack when a narration track is created using the program's Narration Tool and added to the project. Is that what is happening in your situation?
Also, did you check the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO setting, Input and Output?
Lots of questions, lots of answers needed to sort through to get to the core of the matter.

For the moment we will put aside the questions that are defying translation. But, you really do need to make sure that you are setting up the project correctly to get a good start in the project, aside from the audio issue.
When you open a new project, a project preset (project settings) need to be set to match the properties of your source file.
The properties of your source file would include: video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio. The project preset is important because it instructs the program what space to give you in the Edit area monitor for editing purchases.
In Premiere Elements 11 and 12, the program takes charge in setting the project preset for you automatically based on the properties of the first file dragged to the Timeline. Sometimes the program does that task OK. Sometimes not. For the not times, then you set the project preset manually before you import your source files.

Back to the audio issue....
Please create your narration (as .wav file) in Audacity Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder and then import it into Premiere Elements 12 project using Premiere Elements 12 Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the narration to the Narration Track. Then determine if the problems still exist or are gone.

"Tu ne peux plus ouvrir" laisse supposer que jusqu'à présent avec le même matériel, tu pouvais ouvrir Première sans problème.
Es-ce bien le cas ou s'agit-il d'un problème survenu suite à l'installation de Première sur une nouvelle machine? où après la mise à jour du pilote de ta carte graphique?

En attendant, donnez moi une solution à ce qui ressemble à une véritable escroquerie !
Adobe n'a pas le droit de m'empêcher d'utiliser un logiciel que j'ai acquis en bonne et due forme. Normalement, ça s'appelle du vol.

I suspect that your question is not being interpreted/understood correctly. So, please verify.
First, there is no Fire and Industry category. There is a "Fire and Explosions" category and an "Industry" category among the many categories.
After you install Premiere Elements 12, are you saying that all you see under Audio/Sounds Tracks is just the categories of "Fire and Industry" and not all those as seen in the following screenshot? If so, you have a problem which is unrelated to Download Now and Download All in order to use the Sound Track(s).
When the program is installed, you should see all those categories shown in the screenshot. In the program's folders/files on the hard drive, those categories should be all represented, but as incomplete folders/files. And, when you want to use one of the Sound Effects, you have to right click the blue band on the thumbnail inside the category and select Download Now or Download All. After you do that, either one or All will be available for use because you have added the files necessary to make the Sound Effect work and complete the files in the hard drive folder.
There have been numerous cases when there has been a delay in the appearance of the Audio/Sound Effects/categories. How long did you wait after program install before you went looking for Sound Effects? With this delayed appearance, one category at a time begins to show up under Audio Tab/Sound Tracks. Is your Internet connection OK and (not always necessary in this case) your antivirus and firewalls turned off?
Please verify and supply the details requested and then we will decide what next.
Again, I point out...there are two matters here
a. downloading a Sound Effect for use in a project to complete incomplete files that came with the program install
and
b. delayed appearance of Sound Effects after the program appears to be fully installed.

Are you saying that you have just this one project that will not open and that it is presenting with a runtime error? But, all your other projects
functional propertly?
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
What are the properties of the source media used in this project and what are you setting as the project preset to match the properties of the source?
If the project refuses to open and gives off this runtime error message, please first review the Adobe document on damaged projects.

Premiere Elements 4.0 re-installation impossible after XP crash

After XP crash (windows directory only), re-installation of Windows XP I lost all registery and "Documents and Settings" info. I have to re-install evry program I have (had).
The most bizzare is reinstallation "Premire Elements 4.0" - all I am getting is a very funny message:
"The wizard was interrupted before Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 could be completely installed.
Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."
No hint why I cannot install the program! I tried a few times - and I got the same message.
Please - could you suggest something more resonable? I cannot un-install - because there is no info to do it. Even if I removed the directory with the program, I could not re-install it.

Yea Windows can be tricky when it comes to reinstalls. It gives you the option to install over itself but that is usually more of a stop gap measure. I usually make sure I have a backup of my User folder and then format and reinstall. It does take awhile to track down all the install files again but it will usually resolve whatever issue is causing me to take the drastic action of reinstalling Windows.
Sorry the Microsoft Fixit utility did not work for you. We have a utility which helps with removal for later versions of this software but it would have no affect on Premiere Elements 4.0.
