Premiere Elements 11 refuses to read Premiere 8 files

- perhaps because my old premiere 8 was for pc, and my new premiere 11 is for mac?
Anyone out there who knows of a way to make the Premiere 8 files compatible with premiere 11?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, the PREL (Project) files are not X-platform between the PC and the Mac.
This is just speculation on my part, but I believe that those differences are between the included Sonic AuthorCore modules - the sections that allow one to author DVD's and BD's. PrE contains the capability to do authoring, and the necessary info is included in the PREL. With Premiere Pro (PrE's big-brother), the Project files, PRPROJ files, ARE X-platform, so long as they are from a version of PrPro, that is X-platform - every version from CS 3 to CS 6 - PrPro 1 & 2 were not X-platform. Now, as of PrPro CS 3, a separate authoring program, Adobe Encore, was included. The Encore Project files, NCOR files, are NOT X-platform. With PrE, the authoring capabilities are built in, and I think that is where the issue stems, but as I am not an Adobe engineer, I can only speculate, based on PrPro and Encore.
Even if the PREL X-platform incompatibility did not exist, and as Steve mentions, finishing a Project in the exact version, where it was started, is always the best workflow. Even if one is not also changing the platform, there can be problems, as features are added, and removed, from version to version. Some Projects WILL translate to a later version, but the more complex the Project, the less likely that everything will come over properly. Often, there are little glitches, though some can be overcome - some just bring the Project to its knees.
Sorry for the bad news. Is it possible to finish your earlier Project(s) on a PC? If so, that would be my recommendation.
Good luck,
Hunt

The raw-converter is updatet to 6.7 and according to Adobe it should be able to read Sony a-57. When I got Elements 10, a file had to be moved so it could read the raw-files from my Minolta 5D. Can this be the cause of the problem ? What to do ?

please have a look at the folllowing link about the isntallation of the camera raw plugin.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407344.html
be sure not to have the older version of camera raw plugin in the same folder as that of new one. dont even rename it. Remove it and store it in some other location in case you need to revert back the changes. The camera raw plugin is called : Camera Raw

  • I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 wont read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13...is this compatible with my new camera?

I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 won't read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13 but want to make sure my camera is compatible with it first. Thank you for your help!

Photoshop elements 10 should be able to open those files if you update to camera raw 6.7
Which operating system are you using?
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Also, photoshop elements 13 will open those files as well.

  • How can I export a selection as premiere PROJECT FILE to edit in another project....?

Wondering if anyone else has come across this issue....I must of hit an awful evil key because for the third time deep into an edit I traced back to my intro to find most of the audio pulled a Houdini on me and disappeared.
I've been through a tough edit, it's not as simple to just go back into my bins and recollect the clips to create my intro.
Luckily I found the exact intro I need in an auto-saved project file. Copy and pasting obviously does not transfer through project file changes, there is an option to "Export as Premiere Project File" under File, however after marking specific in and out marks and even selecting all clips I want to export, my option tool remains gray and inaccessible.
I need to export these specific clips as a project file so I may import the file as a sequence to a larger project.
    Help?
Thank you so much in advance for your time and feedback.

Have you tried importing the sequence through the Media Browser?  To do so, browse to the backup of your project and double-click it. That will show you all the contents of the project. You can then drag the sequence into your working project.

  • CS6 Premiere Pro file not opening, saying file is not supported

I have been working on a video piece and when I tried to open it recently to continue editing it, it said there was an error importing and that my file was not supported. When the file opened all the film didn't show up and was replaced by 'media pending' or something along those lines.
I don't know how to fix this as there is no reason the files should be incompatible as I haven't changed them from their original Premiere Pro files.
    Does anyone have a solution?

  • Why does Read from Text file default to array of 9 elements

I am writing to a text file starting with a type def. cluster (control) of say 15 dbl numeric elements, that works fine I open the tab-delimited text file and all of the elements appear in the file.  However when I read from the same text file back to the same type def. cluster (indicator), the read from text file defaults to 9 elements?? Is there a way to control how many elements are read from the file.  This all works great when I initially use a cluster of 9 elements and read back to a cluster of 9 elements.

    From the LabVIEW Help: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/glang/array_to_cluster/
Converts a 1D array to a cluster of elements of the same type as the array elements. Right-click the function and select Cluster Size from the shortcut menu to set the number of elements in the cluster.
The default is nine. The maximum cluster size for this function is 256.
Aside: so, how many times has this question been asked over the years?

    Hi Zach.
Sorry to say but Elements 12 came out several months before your camera. Adobe stops updating camera raw files for old software editions so that people have to buy new versions of the software when they get a new camera. It happened to me with LR3 when I got a new camera.
There are works rounds but they are a lot of extra steps and I think you would be converting the files to Some format other than RAW (tiff?) and which I am not sure will perform the same.
I think you just need to get a newer version of Elements.

  • ITunes refuses to read music on second internal HDD

    Hello!
I realize this topic has been asked to death, we need some form of sticky topic! After a bit of searching, I haven't turned up anything I haven't tried.
    Here goes:
-I just got my old 400mhz AGP G4 up and running - 768 MB RAM, OS 10.4.8, a new SuperDrive, airport, and 2 internal HDDs - an 80 gig and a 60 gig. Well, the 80G is my boot drive, and holds just about everything. I'd like to move my ~17 Gig iTunes library over to the 60 Gig drive, which is currently empty. Here's what I tried:
Method 1: Read this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=607487
It worked great - except that trashing the files (on boot drive) caused iTunes to give a completely empty library.
Method 2: Copy all files to secondary drive, and attempt to get iTunes (now empty) to accept the library. It didn't work - if I try to import library, I'll get 4000 songs and no playlists!
Method 3: Use .Mac's Backup to attempt to restore the library to secondary drive. No luck - iTunes still refuses to read the file. (Same as 2)
    Any tips?
One more thing: How can you tell who is listening to your shared iTunes library? There used to be a widget for that - but I can't find it anymore.
    Thanks,
    -Dan

Right, I know. But the procedure of choosing a new location for the library, checking the box, and having iTunes copy the files is the same for both platforms. I suppose I was too lazy to type it out, hm?
Anyway, It's actually copied from my Powerbook - the Powerbook library is the master copy, although I like to have a fairly current library over on the G4 as it's very useful when the Powerbook is packed up for school, or when I'm taxing the Powerbook to the limit (eg, Final Cut render, gaming, etc). It's a fairly simple matter to copy the files, although long. And for what it's worth, they were all still in the trash - I had yet to delete them! So, everything was still there.
What I eventually did was just to copy them back to the original boot drive, then follow the select-new-location>let iTunes copy method, then just delete the MUSIC files, not the iTunes-required files. Essentially, your second Apple help doc link. It works like a charm now.
Sigh... that's one of those "DO'H" moments.
    Thanks,
    -Dan

  • My MBP refuses to read audio CD's created on Windows

I have about 30 - 40 Audio CD's that were created on a Windows machine. My MBP refuses to read these CD's and kicks them out after a 10 - 12 seconds of fumbling with them. The same CD can be read and imported using iTunes on a Windows machine. What seems to be the problem????

    mapexvenus,
Try cleaning the lens. Any major-brand optical drive cleaning disk should be OK. If that doesn't help, you may have a bad installation of OS X (or a bad optical drive, but let's not go there just yet).

  • Mac mini refuses to read original or retail install Disc.

    Alright here's the full story,
I got my mac mini a little over a year ago. It worked just fine but then one day I put a CD in and it refused to read it or eject it. After a tough battle I eventually bested the beast and got the CD out of there, luckily it was still under warranty and I got it fixed and the drive replaced. Just the other day I decided to try and install a copy of windows xp on my mac mini but it wouldn't let me partition the hard drive. I tried to boot from a disk and see if I could do anything from there but low and behold it can't read the disk, in fact it won't read my retail Snow Leopard disk or the original install disk. To be precise if I put in any install disc the computer will just automatically eject it after a while regardless if it's starting up or already running. I have tried holding down c and option at start up but still get the same result. If anyone has any advice it would be very much appreciated as the warranty is now up and I would very much like to not have to take it in for repairs.

The Superdrives are garbage, always have been. Slow, undependable. I'd recommend an external drive from anyone other than Apple.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 will not read the new Nikon Raw/NEF

Photoshop Elements 11 will not read the new Nikon Raw/NEF (from Nikon D750) files even though codec has been downloaded - what do I do?

Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. Consider buying PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the latest free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in PSE11 (keep your NEF originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.8
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.8
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:
