Premiere Elements 11 + Windows 8 pro = slow timeline scrolling!

Hi!
I experience slow redraw of the timeline clips when I scroll,
which makes it very difficult, slow and unpleasant to edit!
This in nothing new to you all, as I have read in many posts about this problem!
And everyone is asking (below these posts) questions like:
"do you have the latest QuickTime codecs?" or "do you have the latest graphics drivers?"
or that our pc are slow or that we work with strange video formats or to change to no thumbnail in the clips or that its
the antivirus fault or whatever.
It is not all these!
As I have read:
-It can happen in many versions of Premiere Elements(maybe in all of them, I don't know)
-It can happen in both ATI/AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards
-It can happen in all hardware configurations CPU/motherboards
-It can happen in all windows versions and both 32/64 bit
So I am guessing it is not our fault.
Can Adobe finally fix this problem with an update? It's been so many versions until now!
please... Is it so difficult?
Can't the programmers see what are we talking about? Can't they fix the programme?
Before I bought Premiere Elements 11 I had the 9 version in windows 7(64bit)
The same problem, slow/laggy timeline redraw when moving back and forth.
The solution I found was to disable the Aero feature in windows 7!
And oh my god... the timeline then was so fast and smooth, I was so happy to edit!
So I compromised with that(disabling aero).
Recently I have upgrad the same PC to windows 8 pro(64 bit) AND bought Premiere Elements 11. (hoping for speed in every possible way!)
The slow timeline scrolling still happens in both PRE9 and in PRE11.
And guess what? in windows 8 pro you can't disable the "aero feature"!!!
You can only change some visual settings, and even if I disable all of them, nothing changes!
So are we really stuck with the laggy timeline scrolling in windows 8???
Premiere Elements 11 is so much faster in all other things (exept the timeline scrolling)
In the preview window for example. It can play really smooth, in real time WITHOUT render preview
some pretty difficult compositions I make! multiple layers, with greenbox and many other filter effects!
Which in Premiere Elements 9 (in the same PC) the preview play was very laggy!
(don't forget that with aero disabled in PE9(win7), same PC, same complicated compositions, timeline scrolling superfast!)
I think they made some pretty good graphic card use in the preview play in PRE11!
I present and edit a youtube show with Premiere Elements with demanding compositing and everyone thinks I use Premiere Pro CS
version or After Effects CS. But I don't, I want to be legal and I can't aford the prices of these applications
so I buy and use the Elements series which are very powerful as well, if you know what to do and HOW to do it!
See for youselves my show I posted today(in Greek, I am from Greece), which I edited in PRE11.(pefrect greenbox, perfect!)
http://youtu.be/HdKAKI6P8tU?hd=1&t=1m28s (open in a new window)
or move time to 1:28 from the below youtube video window.
But unfortunattely the timeline scrolling made my editing unpleasant and slow!
My question is: Will I, (now that I have upgraded to windows 8 pro 64bit) have to edit ALL my next shows/videos
with the slow/laggy timeline scrolling??? please tell me something to hope for...

I have an ATI/AMD FirePro  v4800 1GB GDDR5 with the latest drivers for this card (8.982.8.3)
Is my video card not compatible?
this slow redraw of the timeline happened way before
and everytime a new driver version came up I had installed it but that didn't change anything.
Only with aero disabled I would enjoy a fast timeline scrolling in windows 7. (now, not possible in windows 8 pro)
Bill how can you explain this? Same video card and everytime with the SAME NEW drivers, aero on=slow timeline, aero off=fast timeline!
Is there some kind of a fix that we can always wait from our graphics card companies to include to new drivers??? (for how long???)
or maybe is it all up to Adobe and its own programme?
Are we all supposed to have old video display drivers?
Can someone make some kind of a poll for people who have this problem to vote to see where this problem apears, in which configurations, in which graphics cards? (assuming they have latest drivers)
so we all finally know what/where is the problem.
I love the premiere elements series and thats why I want this to be solved.

Problems with Premiere Elements 10 Trial being slow to draw the timeline when scrolling up or down or sideways.
One fix I've read said to "disable desktop composition" in the Compatibility tab of the Properties window from the PE shortcut icon.
But the option is grayed out.
    My spec's:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    i7 2600K
    16GB RAM
    NVIDIA GTX 460
    850 Watt PSU
    SSD System and Programs Drive
Can't figure out why it's not letting me choose that option.
    Any ideas for a fix?
    Thanks!

What model of camcorder is your original video coming from and what format is it?
When you started your Premiere Elements project, which project settings did you select? If you've selected the proper settings for your source video, you will NOT see red lines above the clips when you add them to your timeline. Is that the case in your project?
Also, have you run Advanced System Care Free on your system? Brand new systems can be a mess of fragmentation and temp files. This great little one-click program can clean up and optimize your machine and often clears up "invisible" issues. And it's free. I've used it every week for years, and my 6 year old computer still runs better than the day I bought it.

    Good Morning
I've just bought and installed premiere elements 13 in my new mac book pro (yosemite 10.10.2) 16gb RAM.
The program is going very slow and the user experience is terrific
I have also big problem with three -way color corrector: when apply this effect never change in image.
    Any suggestion?
Maybe there is big incompatibility with Yosemite?

  • Premiere Elements 12 Running Slow

    Hi,
I recently purchased this program and installed it on my MacBook Pro 13.3" Late 2013, 2.4 GHz Dual Core i5 Processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM, Intel Iris 1024 MB Video Card, 256 GB Sold State Drive, and I have the external USB SuperDrive for DVD burning.  The MAC is currently running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1.  I installed Premiere Elements 12 on the DVD drive and used the original disc from the box.  The program runs extremely slow and it is driving me crazy.  Scrolling, video rendering (VERY SLOW), moving the cursor within the software, and dragging clips around is very lagged.
I had Premiere Elements 9 on a Windows XP Dual Core Pentium 4 Processor computer with 2GB RAM and it ran WAY faster.  I have been trying different display settings on my current MacBook, and even when it's the only program open it is still slow. Is there anything that I can do to make it run faster?
I use Adobe Lightroom 5 on this computer, and it runs very quickly, so I am sure that other Adobe software works well on this machine.  Thanks!
    -Brian

    Steve,
According to the minimum requirements of this software, my system is more than capable to handle it.  I am using the MacBook Pro on it and not the old Windows XP Computer.  I was simply making a comparison between the two.  The specs for my MacBook Pro are as follows:
    MacBook Pro 13.3" Late 2013
2.4 GHz Dual Core i5 (4th Generation Haswell) Processor, Turbo Boost to 2.9 GHz
    8 GB DDR3 RAM
Intel Iris 1024 MB Video Card
    256 GB Solid State Drive
    USB SuperDrive
I noted above that I installed the software using the DVD that came with the software box. It is installed on my MacBook Pro.
On the top of the timeline I do not see yellow lines, but I do see thin yellow lines crossing through the video and audio files in 'Expert Mode'.
    Here are my project settings:
I uploaded the video from an old camcorder into a HDV format a few years ago.  It was a Sony 3 CMOS LCD video camcorder. The camera tapes have worn out and I am trying to make lots of DVDs of these videos to keep a hard copy of them.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Premiere Elements 7 Help required - timeline & source no playback

    Hello everyone,
I am currently experiencing some major problems with my copy of "Premiere Elements 7" recently which I have only encountered once before. Unfortunately the previous solution of a system restore was not available to me this time and after various re-installs and head scratching I am hoping someone may be able to help me with this issue.
    The problem:
When I double click the source footage for a preview, the footage does not play, a similar case in the timeline where once I hit the play button in the edit window, or hit space or enter, the button will indicate play, but the video will not be in motion. I can move the timeline tracker along and it will display the frame at that point.
It is only recently this has occured with no change to my computer at all. It is not connected to the internet as it is used purely for editing.
I have checked the playback settings and everything is in order and fits in with PAL.
    I am using:
    Windows 7
    MESH computer
    AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor
    3.00 GHz
    4.00 GB Ram (3.75GB useable)
    64-Bit operating system
    I eagerly await any help!

    Hey there,
My project preset is Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder Standard 48kHz, with the camera itself being a Samsung VP-MX25E
It may be worthwhile mentioning that the footage has worked in the program for a very long time before these issue began.
To get the footage from camera to computer I connect it via the supplied USB cable and copy the footage into a folder, not directly into the program as I find this method of organisation much more efficient.
The source files are all MP4 Video files, 720x576, Data rate 5014kbps, Total bitrate 5134kbps, with 25 fps.
The audio has a bit rate of 119kbps, in stereo and with a sample rate of 24kHz (the audio also does not play)
I have Local Disk NTFS with 911 GB available to me and 102GB free. All my footage is stored on here, as is premiere.
    Hope this is of help

  • Help with Adobe Premiere Elements window appearing!

I've owned Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 for about 5 or 6 years now. I still have the original disc and serial number. I installed it on my laptop (Sony Vaio bought in 2009. Runs on Vista), and when I open the program up and click on "files and folders" and double click on a video, I keep getting a pop-up saying "Adobe Premiere Elements is not working." And then the program closes. It frustrates me. I can't afford a new update. Anyway this can be fixed? It never did this to me on my old laptop which I do not have anymore. Thank you for your time.

Before you focus on the Premiere Elements 4 itself, let us look at the computer environment and the properties of the video that you are importing into the project.
    1. Given you have Premiere Elements 4. Is it installed on Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit?
    2. What are the properties of this video that you are importing into the new project and what have you set as the project preset to match the properties of that source media?...I am looking for video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio, duration. If you were to import a few jpg photos into a new project would that shut down the project/program as well?
    3. Do you have the latest verision of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 4? Do you have the program set for Run As Administrator and set to run from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    4. Is your video card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
    5. Is your computer optimized with a program such as ccleaner (regular cleaner and registry cleaner)?

    6. Please describe your computer resources?
Let us start here and then we can decide what next based on your details.

  • Is there a possibility to import a theme (Idvd) to Premiere Elements or Pro

    Hi there,
I finally have received my new MBP and was surprised by the new themes of idvd. These Themes are great and I would like to have them also in Premiere Elements or Premiere Pro.
Does anybody have an idea or an advise how to get reasonable Themes to Premiere Elements/Pro.
    Thanks for your help.

iDVD themes can't be transferred to other applications, particularly non-Apple ones.
    Ask Adobe regarding Premier.

  • Premiere Elements VS Pro

What makes Premiere "Pro" stand out from the "Elements" versions?
Is it simply that the pro version has more functions or does it have more power when processing data? I have been using PE3 for well over a year and there are a few issues that I have run into. I am trying to determine if the problems are due to the consumer level software, or if it is a configuration issue on my PC. A few of the problems have been slow encoding and shaky footage on finished products. I can go into more details about the issues if needed, but I was curious if spending more for software solves these (and other) performance problems, or is it simply for more bells and whistles.
Thanks in advance for your input.
    Cole

    Rob,
The general performance, when comparing like versions of the two programs, Pro and Elements (not, say PE3 with CS4), are going to be very, very similar. The engines on each is similar code.
Where Pro differs is in what it can do and often how it does it. First big difference is in the Workspace, itself. I never had PE3, but have read a lot about it. The interface in PE3 is probably a lot closer to Pro, than is PE4 & 7. The looks are similar, and what one gets with Pro will be a ton of additional features. You state that this is not really your issue, but performance and stability are. In terms of these, Pro will probably tax your system just a bit more than Elements, because Elements is tweaked to be a bit more forgiving on the hardware end. The assumption is that a consumer will not be able to dedicate a workstation just to NLE work, while a pro will, or should.
One of the biggest advantages in Pro is the inclusion of Adobe Encore (as of CS3) in the Production Studio bundle. Encore is a serious and seriously good DVD authoring program. I would not be without my stand-alone version of Encore 2.
Going back about a year, I posted a rough comparison between PE4 and PP2 on the Premiere boards. It was not a side-by-side comparison, just a list of the things that I found different between the two programs. If this is of interest, I'll search for a link to that question.
One of the differences is that most things are done "by hand" in Pro, while Elements offers one-button solutions. Yes, Pro does have a ton of presets, and you can build your own, but you still do much more manually.
Based on your question, I'd say to look at the hardware end of things first, as Pro will likely be just a little less forgiving, but not by much.

  • Can you change Premiere Elements 13 timeline to act like Premiere Pro CS4?

    Hi there,
I recently started using Premiere Elements 13 after previously having used Premiere Pro CS4 (both mac versions if that makes a difference). All is great but I have encountered one major difference which makes Elements 13 a bit of a pain and was wondering if it was changeable. Basically, when you alter the length of a clip that's touching up against another one they remain stuck together and everything else in the timeline shifts up accordingly. In Premiere Pro CS4 if you changed the length of a clip joined to another (where the two join) it would simply create a gap. Frankly, I find the latter a much better way of working. What I tend to use Premiere for on the whole is adding still images to a voice track rather than working with video clips with linked audio. I know this isn't exactly what Premiere is designed for but it worked so much better in CS4 and wondered if you could tweak Premiere Elements 13 to behave a bit more like CS4.
    Any help much appreciated!

Hold down the Ctrl key as you shorten the duration of a clip using the mouse cursor. That should give you the gap that you seek. That works for Premiere Elements Windows. (I am strictly an Elements Windows user.)
With your Premiere Elements Mac computer, try holding down the Command key as you shorten the duration of a clip using the mouse cursor.
Please let us know if that worked for you.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Windows project to Mac

I started my project on Windows 7 with Premiere Elements 12. Now I want to work with the project on Mac with Premiere Elements 12 (the same version). Unfortunately I got the error "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements". I used Project Archiver which created a new folder with all files on an external disc. Mac opened it and Premiere started to load it but then threw the error.
Would it be possible to open a project done on Windows with Mac? I really need this because I've done quite a lot work with the project but my Windows license is over and converted to Mac.

    TitusK
The project file (project.prel) created in Premiere Elements Windows cannot be opened in Premiere Elements Mac. The reverse is also true.
One possibility might be to export your Premiere Elements Windows Timeline to the appropriate .mov or .mp4 and then import that file
into Premiere Elements Mac new project. But, from what you wrote about your present circumstances, this does not seem to be possible.
This is the situation with Premiere Elements (any version).
Be aware that there are several Windows Only features in Premiere Elements.
Please do not hesitate to ask if any questions or need further clarification on anything written here.
    Thank you.

  • Opening Premiere Elements (9) projects make under Windows on Mac

    Hi,
I've switched from PC to Mac. I copy my projects of Premiere Elements (9) on my new Mac. After re-installing Adobe Premiere Elements 9, I can't open my projects. I recieve this message "The projetct is not compatible with the current version of Premier Elements" (in french "Le projet n'est pas compatible avec la version actuelle de Premiere Elements"). Why? There is a way to open my projects made in my old PC to my new Mac?
    Thank's

    BalooRuf
Classically you cannot open a project (project.prel file) created in Premiere Elements Windows in Premiere Elements installed on a Mac computer. And, the reverse is also true.
You can export your Premiere Elements Windows Timeline content to a .mov and .mp4 file, and then be expected to transfer that file to Premiere Elements Mac. Does that work for you? I have never heard of anyone finding an alternative.

  • How to burn to ISO image in Premiere Elements 12.1 under Windows 8.1 64bit?

I really struggle - is there no way to burn from PE12.1 to ISO image (under Win 8.1)?

    Motajko
There is no way to take your Timeline content to an ISO Image in Premiere Elements 12/12.1 on Windows 8.1 64 bit with just Premiere Elements 12/12.1 by itself.
Premiere Elements 13 is the first to offer a Burn To: option of ISO Image for DVD, AVCHD, and Blu-ray. Which one of those choices are you seeking (or all of them)?
If you cannot make due with the Burn To: Folder for DVD and AVCHD, then you can get your ISO Image from 12/12.1 in the following round about way....
Let us do AVCHD ISO Image as the example...
    1. Burn your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Timeline using Publish+Share/Disc/AVCHD, Burn To: = Folder (4.7 GB).
    2. Take the BDMV Folder from the saved folder into the free ImgBurn program and export is as a ISO file.using the category named
    Create Image File from Files/Folder.
    3. When you need the disc product, you can take that ISO file to disc in ImgBurn using the category named Write Image File To Disc.
For more information on ISO Image and Premiere Elements, please review the following link's content

  • How to set up user account in Windows 7/Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1?

At the present time I have only the Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit operating system which works from a User Account with Adminstrative Privileges when it comes to using Premiere Elements.
I have read that in Windows 7, the default user account is one with standard rights. My first question is, when using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 in general in a Windows 7 32 or 64 bit environment, do you have to elevate the user account to one with adminstrative rights and, if so, how?
My second question is, is there anything in the Windows 7 user account setup that would specifically target the Premiere Elements Project Archiver/Archiver "Trimmed" as well as Copy options to abort with the message "no user privileges to perform this operation"? The rest of the program performs OK. Supposedly inadequate hard drive space is not a factor.
Thanks for any insights into these two questions.
    ATR

    SG
Just an update to the question that I presented when I started this thread.
You really never did say what type of a User Account you are using in your Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows 7? But based on the information provided by several users, User Account with Administrative Rights seems to be the way to go since all of them were using it and had systems that were running well. I would have expected that based on the Premiere Elements Windows XP requirements. I have yet to have someone come forward to say that they are using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows 7 with a User Account with Standard Rights and the program is running well. Will you be that one?
Besides me switching from Windows XP to Windows 7 in the near future, what motivated this line of questioning was the report that I had seen of a user with Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1on Windows 7 who was reporting "permission" error messages when trying to archive a project with the Project Archiver (Archiver "Trimmed" and Copy options). Further questioning brought out that the problem extended to the AutoSave feature as well. The user claimed to be saving to an external hard drive (formatted NTFS) with about 800 MB free space. And still further questioning brought out that the error message included a free space and/or permissions error. Yes, there were extremely large file sizes involved here (way over 4 GB)
The story had a happy ending where the remedies were:
    1. User Account with Administrative Rights
    and the major
    2. Formatting the thought to be NTFS external hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS.

This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. We are all visitors here.
Just a bit of history....back in the days of Premiere Elements 4, you could set a "poster frame" in what was called the Project area. You did this by right clicking a blank area there and, from the drop down menu that appeared, selecting View/Preview Area, and using the poster frame feature there.
As I said, when a video imports into Premiere Elements, the thumbnail of the import has been presenting as the first frame of the video. With this Preview area "poster frame" option, you could set the video's thumbnail in the Project area so that the first frame was another frame in the video. But, this "perk" was restricted to thumbnails of the video in Project area.
If you exported to file with the first frame modified video, the export's thumbnail in Windows Explorer would present with other than the real first frame or the poster frame as the first frame.
Also, in more recent versions, I have observed that the export to file does not display the real first frame of the video in Windows Explorer. Seems random, but I have not kept track.
And, remember, at the onset I wrote
As far as I have ever seen, Premiere Elements Windows uses the first frame of the video for its thumbnail in the program.
I know of no way within Premiere Elements to control what the program opts to do in this matter. In some compatibility
issues, it opts to give no image but a generic one.
I did not say that you can expect to have the Premiere Elements' export file's thumbnail in Windows displaying with its real first frame. And, the more you get into this, depending on the versions, more details need to be added to my comment about "...first frame of video for its thumbnail in the program..."
I would have to look into all this further to get perspective on the contributing factors.
    ATR
Add On...The Poster Frame feature appeared in versions 4, 7, 8, and 9 by my count.

I am strictly an Elements Windows person but, taking that out of the equation, I would go Windows.
Premiere Elements Windows and Mac are essentially the same in video editing principles, but there are differences between the two. And, these differences often end up with Premiere Elements Mac on the short side...many Windows Only features.
A while back I wrote a blog post on Mac Information Round Up to try to focus in on the Premiere Elements Mac situation. That blog post link is
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/08/pe11-mac-information-round-up.html
Included in the blog post is a long list of WIndows Only Effects. The most annoying Windows Only for the Mac people appears to be related to the Green Screening Key, Blue Screen Key, Chroma Key. I propose the use of the Difference Matte for Premiere Elements Mac users as mentioned in the blog post.
And, the Elements Organizer in Premiere Elements Windows does come with a slideshow feature.
If you are going to go Windows, best have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer so that it is a 64 bit application which can take advantage of the 64 bit resources. Check me on this, but I am almost certain that Premiere Elements Mac needs to be on 64 bit, but also with 64 bit processor in order for it to be a 64 bit application.
If there are to be "flaws" in the program, they are more likely to be troubleshooted to resolution in Premiere Elements Windows than Premiere Elements Mac. Versions of Premiere Elements Mac purchased from the Mac App Store have been highly problematic, and the cause(s) often left unresolved.
That is my take on the matter.
