Premiere Elements 12 Files Won't Open Correctly in Windows 8 (64 bit)

I haven't found a good format yet that will opening correctly in Windows 8. Some open with video only, others open with audio only, one opens video and audio but the image is elongated. Nearly all of the file formats I tried that wouldn't open in Windows 8 were fine on a Vista PC

Please give the specific properties of the source media that you are trying to import into Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8 64 bit. I have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1, previously 8, 64 bit and am not having the same type of issue that you present.
For your source video, what is
Video Compression
Audio Compression
Frame Size
Frame Rate
Interlace or Progressive
File extension
Pixel Aspect Ratio
What is the camera that these videos are coming from - brand/model/settings for recording?
The project preset should match the properties of the source media. In Premiere Elements 12, the program takes over the job of doing the setting of the project preset. Sometimes it does it right. Sometimes not. When not, then you set the project preset manually based on what you know are the properties of your source media. So, it is important to know the properties of the source media to set up the project correctly.
There are certain video compression that are not compatible with Premiere Elements (any version), others incompatible on some computers but not others. So back to need for properties for your source videos to sort out what we are dealing with.
Please put together the information requested, and we will work with you to get the importing, editing, and exporting of the program that you want (if possible).

Premiere Pro 4 File Won't Open

Hi all
I have an adobe premiere pro file that won't open. When I double click on it, the load project bar gets to about four fiths of the way, then it just stops. The last time I saved the file, I saved it to my computer, then I saved it to a portable hard drive to back it up (around four minutes later). Both versions of the file won't open. The previous file will open, but I have done 30 hours more work since then (on the new file). I thought it was enough to be saving every few minutes, saving back ups to a portable hard drive... I also have a raid 1 configuration! I was never expecting this. When I leave the Premiere Pro on the Load Project screen, it stays there for hours.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I just looked in autosave. The file that won't open was last saved at 11:02pm on the 16th. There was an autosave project at 10.25pm on the 16th, and that wouldn't open either (it crashes at exactly the same place as the other one). However, there was an autosave file at 6:17pm on the 16th that would open. Curious though, it doesn't seem to have a lot of the changes I thought I had made by this time. It seems to be earlier than this (although perhaps my memory isn't serving me correctly). Should there be more autosaves that this? I had the program open pretty much that whole time, and nothing between 6:17 and 10:25.
Anyway, that's a start! Something must have happened between 6.17pm and 10.25pm that'd made the file go kaput. I would love to know what, so I can avoid this happening again. First things first though, it'd be fantastic to get the file that isn't opening working.
Thanks for your swift response too, Jim. I opened PP and tried to open the file from the interface. The load project bar stopped at the same place. I can open other projects fine. As to your last suggestion, I created a new project, and went to File/Import then clicked on the file in question. It started importing, then the progress bar froze at exactly the same place. I'm not sure if I did this correctly. Is there another way to import a PP file into an existing PP?

Adobe Premiere Elements 9 just won't open!

I always did many projects on it and now all of the sudden it just won't open. There will be this little rectangle at the bottom saying it's loading and it never opens!! I'm so mad! Please help

Premiere Elements 8 Project Won't Open. Please Help.

I was working on a Premiere Elements 8 project for my video class last night (HDV, 1080i 30p) and the program stopped responding as I was importing a clip. I was prompted to wait for response or close the program. I closed the program and when I tried to re-open my project, the loading dialog box reaches 100% and then does nothing. I let it sit for over 30 minutes and nothing changed. When I clicked cancel after 30 minutes, I was prompted with the same "program is not responding" box. Other projects open fine, but this one simply will not. After reading through the forums, I disabled McAfee and updated Quicktime, but I am still having the same problem. I have 6 GB of free RAM and I am using footage shot on my DSLR. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated as the project is due this week.

OK, there is possibly a problem with one (or more) Assets.
This next step might be easy, or not, depending on how you have your Assets arranged on your computer.
The easiest is if one has the Assets, or Copies of them, in sub-folders below the Project's hierarchy. See this article for an example: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4028199#4028199
I would Move the Assets from their location, so that PrE cannot initially find them, and attempt to load their links. Then, launch PrE, and Open that Project (since the AutoSaves do not work better, just go with the original Project here). You should get the dialog, "Where is file ____ ?" See this article for more details and tips: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4598705#4598705.
If one has many types of Assets, such as Still Images, AVI's, MOV's, etc., it would be easier if one Moved each Asset type to a new, and separate sub-folder, for this next step.
At "Where is file ____ ?" navigate to where you Moved that requested file. See if it loads. Per the above article, you will see that PrE will then survey that folder, the one that you just navigated to, and try to load each missing Asset IN that folder, and re-link to them. If all goes well, then you should get that same dialog messege for the next Asset type. Repeat. Do this until you get the hang on an Asset. At that point, DO NOT Save the Project. Instead, Save_As and increment the name. That is IMPORTANT.
Then, Move that faulting Asset elsewhere, and test Opening the Save_As Project. If all works fine, then you know that there is a problem with THAT Asset. You should study it carefully, to see what the problem is. If it plays fine elsewhere, and is not different, than other good Assets, then try Importing it again, into that Save_As Project.

Photoshop Elements 8 Files Won't Open

Just got my 1st IMAC on Friday and am trying to figure it out. I have downloaded a trial copy of Photoshop Elements 8 and am not having any luck opening the files I download.
The .zip file downloads into the downloads directory, I double click on it (had to google how to unzip a .zip file on a mac) and move it to my folder called scrapbooking. However, when I start elements and go to files > open file and go to the scrapbooking folder I can scroll up and down through the .jpeg and .png files and I can select a file to open, but the open button is greyed out and it won't open.
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Wait, wait. You're not installing Elements at all, by the sound of it. PSE does not install by drag and drop. Get that installer out of the scrapbooking folder (for your general info, programs need to go into the applications folder, not wherever you like. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but any program that has any kind of update function will not ever find itself if you put in some random place.)
Starting from the zip file: double click (click once if you're accessing via the downloads stack in the dock) to unizp it. Find the unzipped file and double click that to mount the disk image. Double click the disk image. Double click Setup in the files you see there to run the installer. Do NOT change the installation location from what PSE suggests.
However, your post is very unclear--I can't tell for sure if you already did install it in the wrong place, in which case you will need to uninstall it before doing all this. Uninstall by means of the uninstaller, which for PSE 8 is in the program's folder.
Apple has some very helpful videos for switchers on their website.

HELP!!!... Premiere Elements 12 suddenly won't open

In December 2013 I purchased and installed Premiere Elements 12 and it was working fine. I have completed a project in it that I am ready to publish, but now when I try to launch the program it gets to the quick time part of loading (if you watch what the text says near the bottom of the window as it loads, it get to quick time and then quits). Really frustrated by this and hoping someone has a solution to help me correct without losing my project. Thanks.

Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
Can you open a new project? If so, do so, and, while you have the project open, go to Help Menu/Update and update from 12 to 12.1.

Installed Premiere Elements 12 - now won't open

I installed Premiere 12 on our toshiba laptop running Windows 7. It worked fine for one project, but now when I try to open another project nothing happens. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still nothing. Even going into the Organizer and trying to open the video editor from there, or open a new PE project from there, nothing. No error code, no nothing.

Premiere elements 11 program won't start/open anymore.

I was using at 7am no problem and my computer died (it has done that numerous times before and i've never expeirneced this problem, just died because the power chord is loose) and then i go to finish editing around 4p and now the program won't open. everythingelse (google, files, media, other programs) run and open fine but not premiere. I am not tech savvy and don't really understand what other forums are saying, i'm definitely consumer level. please please help, i don't want to lose my work.

If you need specs i need a walk through how to check. Its a dell computer that can run world of warcraft just fine so i don't think its the driver or graphic card, and again premiere was working just this morning.
Its a dell i've had for 3 years.

Typically I start with lots and lots of questions to define the situation.
In view of the circumstances that you describe, I am going to start with a suggestion rather than questions. Then, if the suggestion does not work, then I will send a lot of questions your way.
Delete the Premiere Elements 11 settings file, named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs. In Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the path to it is:
Local Disk C
Users
Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Premiere Elements
11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 11.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.

Premiere Elements Project file wount open in Premiere Pro CS6

My friend Just bought Premiere elements 13 and created a Project. I cant open the Project in Premiere Pro CS6. Getting this error message:
"The Project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened."
The Project workes fine in Premiere Elements 13
What can I do? What is wrong?

If you have done this:
Import a Premiere Elements project (Windows only)
   Select File > Open Project.
   Browse to an Adobe Premiere Elements project file, with file extension PREL.
   Click Open.
Premiere Pro converts the Premiere Elements project file to a Premiere Pro project file.
and it wont work Elements 13 is probably too new for CS6.

Premiere Elements 4 audio won't play on mp4 files, codecs missing/unavailable on .mov files

I dowlnloaded Premiere Elements 4, and when I import mp4 files, the video plays but the audio will not. I've also tried to import .mov files, and an error message pops up that says "Codec missing or unavailable." I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, but that didn't change anything. The files will play back on the video camera, but I"m having trouble with them on my computer. The audio on the mp4 files plays in Quicktime, but not the video, and vice versa when I import them into Elements. Any suggestions?

Does Quicktime Pro also edit .mov files on a PC?

Premiere Elements 4 pretty much works with tape-based digital video. That would be video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder. It doesn't handle other formats very well.
If you plan to edit MP4s, you definitely want to upgrade to a more current version of the program. If you can't install a current version of the program, you may need to address issues on your computer (such as an outdated operating system or underpowered hardware configuration).
Short of that, you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple for $29. It will edit MP4s, even on a PC platform.

Is it possible to open a Premiere Elements 7 file with Premiere Elements 9 ? If so what is the trick? We have been trying and every time it comes up with a compatibility error.

Premiere Elements 9.0 will not open

In August 2011 I purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0 with a new Dell PC using Windows 7 64-bit. Since then I have used Premiere Elements many times for video editing without problems. The last time I used it was about 3 months ago. This week I tried to use Premiere Elements, but was unable to load it. The software would start to load up to the point of displaying the full screen with task bar, but without showing the individual “panes”, at which point it appeared to freeze. If I then tried to use the drop down menus (File/New/Project or Files/Open Project) an error message would pop up saying “Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.” after which the program would shut down. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling Premiere Elements, but it has not solved the problem. Any ideas how to fix it?

If the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 problem set in after the installs of any one of the programs installed, then you should rule that factor in or out for each systematically. Each would be a prime candidate for troubleshooting exploration.
But, before you do that, let us try deleting the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 settings file. In Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, it can be found in the path
Local Disk C
Users
Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Premiere Elements Folder
9.0 Folder
and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not correct the problem, then deleted the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
IMPORTANT
a. Make sure you are working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so you can see the complete path.
b. Do not detour or get lured into a Premiere Elements 9.0 Folder instead of the Premiere Elements Folder/then 9.0 Folder.

It has worked fine. I unimstalled and reinstalled it. Still won't work.
