Premiere Elements 12 - "No capture device"

I can't get Elements 12 to recognize my Canon XHA1 HDV camcorder.  It is connected via 1394 Firewire to a Window7 Pro computer.  The computer sees the camcorder & it shows as a connected device in the control panel.  I have used this camcorder with Prem Pro CS3.  Can you suggest an answer to my problem?  Thank you.

Bobbie,
Great news, and thank you for sharing that success with us.
I'm with Steve - go happy when a plan comes together!
Good luck and happy editing,

  • PREMIERE ELEMENTS VIDEO CAPTURE ERROR

I get this error when I am trying to capture video from my dv camera.
Premiere Elements has encountered an error.

It seems to know I have a camera plugged in, but has a yellow yield sign with an exclamation point on the camera when the capture window comes up.

It has been a several days since we visited this thread. Got detoured and then lost track of the thread in the fast moving thread traffic here.
From all that has been written in this thread and in spite the different numbers of computers involved, I am wondering if computer optimization may be the order of the day rather than focusing on making the DV data capture firewire work in Premiere Elements 12 on one of your computers, specifically Windows 7 64 bit.
Have you focused on one of your computers and optimized - maybe a free ccleaner run through, clearing away pile ups of preview files, conformed audio files, conformed video files? Checking out where the Scratch Disks are directed and how much free space was there. (The save location for Captured Video and Captured Audio is included in the Scratch Disks listings (See Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks.)
Not sure if I asked already, so I will ask anyway...can you do your DV data capture firewire in Movie Maker 2012 (same firewire cable)?
Did you ever get your Mom's computer to recognize your miniDV camcorder?
You have been working with Premiere Elements 12. Have you been working with the 12.1 Update (See opened project's Help Menu/Update.)
Moving to Premiere Elements 13 is not going to help on this one since DV and HDV data capture firewire have been removed from Premiere Elements 13. A workaround is offered, but....
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/removed-features-formats-elements.html
For troubleshooting purposes only, you could download and install the free 30 day tryout of Premiere Elements 11 from the following web site and determine how your DV data capture firewire works in that

You cannot buy that download, but you can try it.
Just some thoughts if the issues are not yet resolved.

  • Premiere Elements 12 - Add media webcam "no device control"

Hi, I have Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and I am trying to record live using Logitech C920 Webcam. Whenever I try to "add media", even though it recognizes both image and audio devices in the webcam, it shows "no device control" and the screen is black. How can I solve this situation? Thank you.

    Just some thoughts....
    Premiere Elements 12 assumed on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
    Add Media
    Webcam or WDM
In the Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window, there are 2 tiny arrows pointing right at the top right of the Capture Window. You can access
Capture Settings and Device Control there.
Click on Capture Settings to bring up the Project Settings dialog. Click on Capture in the left column in the Project Settings dialog..
In the Project Settings dialog, you should see "Capture Format: WDM Capture" and to the right of that a Settings tab.
Click on that Settings tab to bring up the WDM Capture Preview Settings dialog.
In the WDM Capture Preview Settings dialog, assure that you have check mark for
    During Preview
    Preview Video on Desktop
    Preview Audio on Desktop
    During Capture
    Preview Video on Desktop
    Preview Audio on Desktop
Also, if you go to the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Device Control, what choices do you have
    and which one is selected?
We will be looking for your results. I have seen a video tutorial on Premiere Elements 12 working with the webcam that you appear
to be using and all seems to be working.

  • Premiere Elements and SDI Capture?

Hi - I'm a Premiere Pro user but a customer is setting up a retail video capture situation that will be operated by non-video folks. The customer wants to use a Canon XA-25 to stream video via SDI capture to a computer. Will Premiere Elements do that?

    Rich Hall Reps
As far as I can tell Canon XA-25 is not a mini DV or HDV camcorder with an iLink for DV or HDV data capture firewire into a Premiere Elements capture window. In that regard, Adobe has removed that feature from its latest version 13/13.1. Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is the last version to have this feature which has a classical history of working only with a firewire connection. In Premiere Elements 13/13.1, Add Media will not include DV Camcorder or HDV Camcorder. The surviver is Webcam or WDM with description "Capture video from webcam or other WDM compatible device".
But, my interpretation of what you are seeking is not DV or HDV capture firewire, but rather live streaming of uncompressed video from the Canon XA-25 using the Canon SDI Output
    HD-SDI - Canon UK
Canon XA25: Our New Favorite Camera - Association Studios
The following Adobe document was pointed to 3 months ago by a staff member responding to a user question on Live Video Streaming using Premiere Elements.
Premiere Elements: How do capture live / streaming video?
The link pointed to does not appear to be updated for 13/13.1 which was released September 24, 2014.
Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Capture video from camcorders and webcams
Based on the above, I am not sure if the Canon output can be made to work with the Add Media/Webcam or WDM choice with the Canon being recognized in the Capturing Source field of the Webcam or WDM Capture Window. Do you have any version of Premiere Elements to explore this possibility?

  • Premiere Elements 13 & Canon HV30 - Video Import/Capture

I CAN connect my Canon DV30 to MS Movie Maker via firewire with no problems at all.
I've just bought Premiere Elements 13 but I CANNOT get it to recognise the camera, and cannot import any video :-(
Does anybody have any experience of using Premiere Elements and a Canon HV30?
    I need help PLEASE!
    Thx

Just found out DV capture has been removed from v13!
The workaround, as per the link (Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Capture video), would then not play any sound - which I believe is another problem of v13 (No  sound on playback  with Premiere  13)
That's it for me.  The software is going back to Amazon.
Premiere Elements 13 is not going to work for my DV capture!!!!!

  • Slow motion / fast motion in Premiere Elements 13

I read that in Premiere Elements 13 fast motion (and I think also slow motion) ist removed. Is that correct. And if yes: Is there any workaround available?

    rr
    Thanks for the reply.
Great information. If you have been using Ctrl+R, that is the keyboard shortcut that brings up the Time Stretch dialog.
Time Stretch (use of the Ctrl+R) has not been removed from Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace.
Like Premiere Elements 11, Time Stretch is found in the Expert workspace and not in the Quick workspace.
When you use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+R, I get Time Stretch dialog from where I can create the slow or fast motion effect in the selected clip.
The following relates to Premiere Elements Timelapse Capture (Stop Motion) which has been removed from
Premiere Elements 13 as a specific feature that you see in Premiere Elements 11 and 12.
Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Capture stop-motion and time-lapse video
Please let me know if you are OK with the above information.
    Thank you.

  • Cant' import MPEG2 in Premiere elements 12 since today !!

my Sony DV Cam creates MPEG2 videos and i was able to use them in Premiere elements 12 but today it tells me I don't have the codec to read them !?
    Any ideas ?

    hay1700
What is giving you the message about the missing codec....Premiere Elements 12 when you use Add Media OR
Windows 8.1 when you go to use one of its players?
What are these MPEG2 files, MPEG2.mpg from HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window are something else?
Please excuse the question, but I do not want to take anything for granted...
    a. Are you importing MPEG2.mpg files into Premiere Elements 12 via its Add Media/Files and Folders or are you doing HDV data capture
firewire into the Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window
    b. What are you or the project setting as the project preset for this project? If you do not know, please see Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields are grayed out.
    c. Is your MPEG2.mpg in a project and are you trying to import the project file (project.prel) into another project file (project.prel)? Or are you trying to import a MPEG2.mpg file into a project.
    d. What happens to your issue if you start a new project?
Please review the above. We will watch for your result and, based on that, we can decide what next.

  • How do you change project settings on Premiere Elements 12?

I have Premiere Elements 12. When I view a DVD I created of wedding photos, the edges of people and objects are jagged and generally the photos appear blurry. On my old Premiere Elements 8, I did not have this problem - the pictures on DVDs were clear and sharp. When checking the project setting on Premiere 8, the project settings for Capture was DV which changed all my settings for General and Rendering project settings. On my new Premiere 12, the Capture setting is HDV and I cannot get the General and Rendering settings to change when I change the Capture setting to DV. The online help from Adobe says to correct this, "In the New Project dialog box, click Change Settings," but when I start a new project in Premiere 12, "Adobe Premiere Element Editor" is the only dialogue box that shows and I cannot see a change setting button. Does anyone know how I can change my project settings so that when I select DV it will change all the presets for the General and Video Rendering settings?

    jacquelinebaker
The party line is that you cannot change project settings once the project settings have been set. You need to start a new project.
Edit Menu/Project Settings/General does not offer the opportunity for any significant project settings change in this type of situation.
I have discovered that, under certain circumstances, that the user can change the established project preset without starting a new project.
The approach to doing this involves editing the Notepad document of the saved closed project file (project.prel file). I have written about this in the following blog post.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-changing-project-settings-without.html
You need to weigh the pros and cons of going through the procedure or just starting a new project and start the project again.
All of the above being said, on to setting to the correct project preset to match the properties of your source media. Please refer to the issues involved and how to set manually the project preset when the program is not doing the job correctly or best automatically.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
To the specifics...if you are doing DV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window, the scenario would be...
    a. Open Premiere Elements 12 to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings. In Change Settings,
change the project preset to NTSC DV Standard or NTSC DV Widescreen depending on NTSC or PAL set up and 4:3 or 16:9 DV data source. Then before you exit that area, make sure to place a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project" in
the new project dialog. Exit that area and return to the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace for your Add Media/DV Capture selection.
If you are doing HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Capture Window, then same scenario except the project preset change involves NTSC HDV HDV 1080i30 (if NTSC). In this instance, the Edit Menu/Project Settings/General should look like
Please review and consider and then let me know if I have targeted you question or need clarification.

  • Clips in Premiere Elements 11

I have asked this question earlier but not sure if I had entered it into 'discussions' correctly. Question is, when I transfer video from my Canon HV20 camera into Premiere Elements I end up with one continious 'clip' rather than the actual series of clips that I created when I originally shot the video. I am trying to find out how to end up with all of the individual clips so I can do my editing in the Premiere program. Thanks.

Are you using Premiere Elements to capture your video over a FireWire connection?
Have you ensured that the time and date are correctly set in your camcorder?
When you capture in Premiere Elements, have you ensured that the option to Break by Timecode is selected in the capture workspace?

  • Best export settings for SVHS video from Premiere Elements 12

    Hi
when I view my SVHS video on screen via premiere elements 12 the quality looks very good. However, when I edit the video and save, the quality is quite poor.
I need to know what is the best settings to save my video. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thank you Tom

    TD
I have some questions to ask and some suggestions to make for your consideration after you have concluded your discussions with SG.
    1. Am I assuming correctly that you used a firewire connection for your ADVC-55 capture? And, if so, what did you capture into - Premiere Elements 12 Capture Windows to give you DV AVI Type 2? In the gspot readout (to the left of the dialog), what does it say about the Container.
    2. Assuming that you have DV AVI Type 2 (4:3) files saved to your computer hard drive, have you tried
For DVD-VIDEO PAL Standard Format on DVD disc
    a. Open Premiere Elements 12 new project to Expert workspace, File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings....Change project preset to PAL DV Standard....before leaving that area, making sure you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
    b. Then back in the Premiere Elements 12 workspace, Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag you DV AVI to the Timeline.
    c. After edits and maybe menu application,
    Publish+Share/Disc/DVD burn to disc
check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space"
    Preset = PAL Dolby DVD
Before hitting Burn in the burn dialog, note what the readings are in the burn dialog for Space Required and Bitrate. If the Bitrate is 8.00 Mbps at that point, that is good. More on that later.
    For Export To File (AVCHD.mp4)
If you want to export, your Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive, please consider
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    MP4 - PAL DV Standard
If your details are other than that which I assumed, please let us know.
We will be watching for further discussions and results.
    Thank you.

  • Is premiere elements what I want?

    Hi all,
I've been a user of Photoshop Elements for many years, using it to download my photos and then catalog them, being able to search and group them in the organiser is great.
I also have a camcorder but never really done much with the footage, I had tried Pinnacle software many years ago but that didn't amount to much, I have a number of tapes I've created (Sony PC100E DV camcorder) and ideally would like to get my tapes copied to a hard drive so I can make sure I have back ups (some of my older Hi8 tapes I now have trouble playing so want to capture my DV tapes as a start). Having read about Premiere Elements I've downloaded the trial version, thinking I could use this for my video in the same way as I use Photoshop Elements to download my photos, but it doesn't seem that straight forward. From what I can see I would have to capure the tapes using the get media button but do it as part of a project. So my question is should I be looking at Premiere Elements to capture my footage for back up purposes and if this is the case then does it capture the tape in full, not just a low quality version? I realise the software gives the ability to edit and manipulate fooage but at the moment this is secondary to just getting backups.
    Thanks for any comments.
    Keith

Premiere Elements will not only capture your miniDV video at full quality -- it pretty much streams the data as is from the tape. So the quality of the video is identical to the original.
As for analog and Hi8, tape, if you use a DV bridge (as we recommend in our FAQs http://forums.adobe.com/thread/431853?tstart=0 ) or a Digital8 camcorder to digitize your video, as DV-AVIs, it will be about as close to the original as is possible. So you're okay there too.
As for using the program, why not start with my free 8-part Basic Training tutorial series at Premiere Elements support site Muvipix.com? They should help you see if this is the program for you.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/537685?tstart=0
Then, if you really want to learn the program inside and out, check out my books.

They'll answer almost any question you might have in easy step-by-step instruction. And, of course, you've got the author (me) right here and on Muvipix.com several times a day to help you with what the books don't make clear!

  • Adobe premiere elements 12 with diamond vc500 one touch video capture device.

Adobe premiere elements 12 and using Diamond vc500 one touch video capture device.
AVI files will not load into Adobe premiere elements 12.
I bought what I thought were the two best software and capture devices.
I am archiving old VHS tapes and using Diamond vc500 capture software called EZ grabber. I thought the best archiving format would be AVI files. As I just started this project. I am willing to do what is needed.
That even being, going and buy another capture device that being for a VCR to PC using a USB are even a Video card.
EZ grabber software ask you to record in what format. I picked AVI. There is DVD - SVCD - VCD - MPG4. I want to archive then go back and edit. The DVD or SVCD format, is that not the same as mpeg 2?
You and I know the drill. Saving in what long term archive format and that dare thing about video compression and losing quality of the videos. Its all a nightmare.
Once again I am willing to buy another capture device for a VCR that will work with Adobe premiere elements 12.
Help please with long term archiving format and capture device.
    Thanks

    The answer is B.
Capturing the VHS content to computer (via the Diamond vc500 and USB connection and EZ grabber) to obtain an .avi file on your computer and then trying to import that into Premiere Elements with its Add Media/Files and Folders?
When I do that, the Adobe premiere elements 12 crashes or only loads a 2 mins of video.
The firewire connection device "Canopus" product sounds great. But I really don't want to spend that much on my home videos. My PC does not have a Firewire connection. So add a new card for that and the Canopus product. I could just pay someone to do my VHS tapes.
    Diamond vc500 $35
    Adobe premiere elements 12 $65
    Firewire card $50 plus
    Canopus $180
$330 is way too much for simple home VHS videos

  • How can you get Premiere Elements to recognize hardware.  It will NOT recognize my Dazzle Video Capture device or either of two HP DVD burntes. I feel like I wasted my money.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
If Premiere Elements 13, please be advised that it does not support DV or HDV capture firewire. And, any USB devices
have never worked for that purpose for Premiere Elements (any version).
As for the burner not being recognized in the Burner Location field of burn dialog of the program, please consider
(if you are dealing with DVD CD burner rather than a Blu-ray DVD CD burner.
CD, DVD drive not recognized after Adobe application install | Windows
Depending on how matters progress, you may want to do an uninstall reinstall using the following scheme
Uninstall, the usual Control Panel way
Do a free ccleaner run through to get rid of leftovers from incomplete installs reinstalls
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
We might even involve later a deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole Folder in
which it exists. More on the latter later.

  • Premiere Elements doesn't see my Siig USB capture device.

The topic heading pretty much say's it all. My webcam shows up as a capture device, but not my Siig. I don't remember the model of the Siig and it's not printed on the device, but it was cheap ($29). However, the crappy capture software that came with it sees it fine, as does Windows Media Encoder. So, why not Premiere Elements?

    Thanks for the reply.
Hope you can use the workarounds suggested in the Adobe document.
Are you within 30 days of purchase from Adobe direct on this one? If so, you can seek a refund/money back from Adobe.
If you purchased from an authorized reseller, then you have to deal with the seller according to the sellers return/refund policy.
If an Adobe online purchase, then Adobe Chat Orders should be able to take care of the refund details.

  • Adobe Premiere elements 10 has lost HDV camera in device manager..help

Our Sony V1E camera was recognised in Adobe Premiere Elements and we could capture footage fine.. suddenly the device manager can't see the camera..but ..strangely..it can play and rewind the camera etc etc.. just cannot capture?? waht has gone wrong?? It's connected with firewire.
    Help?

All our configs are for Pal HDV 1080i mode in camera and Adobe element project preset is Pal HDV HDV 1080i 25 to match camera.
The elements device manager can shuttle the tape in the camera forward/back etc but cannot capture in the HDV capture mode
If we put the device manager into DV mode it will capture the footage even though the camera is in HDV mode?
Previously the device manager captured the HD footage and recognised the camera itself in the window and suddenly it doesnt recognise the camera in that window and can only capture HDV footage if we go to capture mode for DV camera where it only recognises a Micorsoft DV camera VC generic setting??
That tells me that the port and cable are working perfectly.
Could a setting in Premiere elements be wrong??    DV/HDV device control is selected in preferences. HD anomorphic is also selected.
