  • Premiere Elements 8 & native support for Samsung AVCHD MP4 video?

I'm excited about the release of version 8 of PSE and PE, but my big unanswered question is stated in the subject line: will Premiere Elements 8 natively support the MP4 files produced by my Samsung HMX-H104 ?
I've been entirely unsuccessful with this file format and PE7.
I've read throught the product descriptions and FAQ and Adobe makes reference to cameras from flash-drive camcorders, but doesn't offer any specifics. Native support looks like a crapshoot. Anybody with some insight to contribute?

Thanks for pointing that out -- yeah, I see my error. I just did a little bit of web searching and it's not AVCHD. This seems to pretty well summarize it:
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Samsung-SC-HMX10-Camcorder-Review-34476/Format.htm
"The Samsung ... outputs video in the H.264/MPEG-4 format (the file extension is .MP4). This highly-compressed video codec should not be confused with the competing AVCHD format. AVCHD is a type of H.264/MPEG-4 codec, but the version Samsung employs is different, with both benefits and drawbacks.
"...the MPEG-4 video ... is adequate. ... this type of MPEG-4 is space efficient and less processor-intensive to edit than AVCHD."
    ...and...
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Samsung-HMX-H105-First-Impressions-Camcorder-Review-3 6130/Compression-amp-Media.htm
"The Samsung HMX-H105 records video in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, the same as models from the previous years. MPEG-4 has clearly been adopted as the format of choice for HD camcorders, split into two camps. Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and most recently JVC, all use AVCHD, which is a subset of AVC/H.264. AVCHD experienced some serious stumbling blocks in its first few years, as existing hardware and software choked on the heavy data loads. It has, however, gotten much better in the past year. AVC/H.264 is also data-heavy, at least compared to old standard definition camcorders, but the format is easier to read. QuickTime can work perfectly with the files, and has the benefit of being free and dual-platform."
I know this aspect has all been covered to death on these forums in the past, with respect to PE7 (which chokes on any Samsung .MP4 file I throw at it). While I've bookmarked the workaround posted by you in this thread (thanks!), I was hoping to avoid the extra steps à la native compatability with PE8.

  • Premiere Elements 7 720p editing notebook Hardware requirements

    Hi there,
I need a new Notebook for myself.
Some desktop workstation is no alternative for me...and I need a mobile , light weighted, enduring notebook since I am traveling a lot. Its required mainly for surfing , typing and programming MS VisualStudio.
But also for hobby cutting 702p clips With PremiereElements....
My panasonic Lumix Tz7 produces 720p Avchd (Lite ) mts output with length up to 15 minutes.
Now that format is what I want to cut with Premiere Elements.I am willing to accept minor speed issues, cutting is just my hobby.
Currently I have a 2.53Ghz Pentium which requires a 15 min clip to load 10 min. During that time Premiere Elements is blocked and the System processor is up to 100% usage. I am not able to parse through the clip without further blocking.
    Now will that one do?
    Aspire Timeline 3810TG-734G32n

Since I do need the notebook mainly only for typing and Websurfing I rather hesitant to buy something like:
Sony VGN-SR59VG/H with core2 Duo P8700 (2,53GHz) for 1.299,00 Euros or some other model from the Z series. they are really good technology but expensive -- but even then I am not sure if that one is sufficient for avchd lite editing.
    does anyone have any suggestions??
    Any hint will be welcome!
    David

    David,
AVCHD is about the most demanding codec imaginable. It requires quite some muscle. For desktops the minimum requirements are i7 to make any editing experience better than an extremely boring waiting exercise, despite what Adobe says. I realize it is only for occasional use and for a hobby, but still...
I have the Sony Vaio VGN-FW31ZJ, but it is too slow IMO to use for editing. It is convenient for using with OnLocation, but that is about it.
    Have a look here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/438156?tstart=30
Now if you were to invest in a notebook, at least go for an i7 and make sure you have a firewire port for capturing and 2 eSATA connectors for harddisks with 7200 RPM minimum. Have a look at Sager. This will imply concessions on portability and budget, but that is the consequence of notebooks for editing, especially with AVCHD material.
Mobile, lightweight and durable are in direct conflict with the basic requirements for editing. Editing requires an octopus notebook, with dongles, external disks, cables for ingest and all kinds of paraphernalia to make it work as an editing machine.

  • I have a notebook that runs windows 8. Last week I bought and downloaded the Adobe Premiere Elements 13 and made a movie. Unfortunately the film was not good, it does not flow naturally. It features short breaks without stopping, which makes the bad quali

Is the current version of Adobe Premiere Elements 13 certified to run on Windows 8?

    Eduardo Cunha
Thanks for the additional information and background on your Premiere Elements projects.
Here are my suggestions for you to consider when you revisit Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8 64 bit.
    a. Music. Actually take your iTunes music into iTunes to convert them to .wav version. And, then import the .wav version
    into the Premiere Elements project.
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
    b. If you have a 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 source at 29.97 interlaced frames per second, then you (manually) or the project (automatically) set the project preset to
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    HD1080i30
However, when you go to export the Timeline content, then you select an export choice which uses 1920 x 1080 16:9, not 1440 x 1080 which depends on a 16:9 flag to stretch the 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 for display after encoding.
    Consider
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with preset M2T - H.264 1920 x 1080i30 or MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.
The missing ingredients in this include frame rate of the original and frame rate for export. Also NTSC or PAL. I have assumed NTSC for now. Curious about the settings used in Premiere Elements 13 tryout on Windows 7 64 bit that you used for comparison to the Windows 8 64 bit results.
    Looking forward to your results.

Did you go through the drill
    a. video card driver version up to date according to the manufacturer of the video card
    b. if so, deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file....for Premiere Elements 12 in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the path is:
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
and in the Premiere Elements Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file for version 12. The BadDrivers.txt file is a file in this Premiere Elements Folder which also contains folders. You do not want anything in those folders. All you want is the BadDrivers.txt file in the Premiere Elements Folder.
Make sure that you have Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so you can see that complete path.
The rationale for the being of the BadDrivers.txt file has its origins in post 10 of the following older thread
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3177024
When you get the display card error message, is it before you import media into the project? And, when you get the message, does the program allow you to continue by pressing a Continue Button or are you stopped from going further?

-What model of camcordder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?
I tried to add a video with the two devices.
    Samsung HMX-H300
Video settings added to the project:
    Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 50fps 12009kbps [V:

    Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 127kbps [A:
    HMX-H300 [eng] (aac, 48000 Hz, stereo, 127 kb / s)]
    Used settings:
    PAL-AVCHD-AVCHD LITE 720p50
The same thing happens and another video.
    Sony DSC-H5
    Video settings:
    Video: MPEG1 Video 640x480 30fps 104857kbps [V: mpeg1video, yuv420p, 640x480, 104857 kb / s]

    Used settings:
    DSLR-480p-DSLR 640x480p50
    the same result.
-How did you get the video from this camcorder to your computer?
Files are copied to the flash card to the HDD.
-Have you ensured that a video clip from this camcorder is the first clip on your timeline so that the program can match its project settings to your video specs?
Yes. Video clip from this camcorder is the first clip in the timeline.
Parameters of the project and the video above.
-When your project settings match your video specs, you will NOT see a yellow orange line along the top of the timeline, above your video clips, in Expert mode. Is this the case with your project?
No. I suspect that the problem occurs in the video is displayed on the timeline.
Because the assets of the project and put the video thumbnail is displayed on this video.
at the time of the drop on the timeline displays only rectangular frame that meets the duration of the video itself. let go of the mouse button. Displays only the blue rectangle.
Thumbnails of the first and last frames do not appear. takes 2-3 seconds and Pr closed.
I believe that until you see the yellow line is not reached.
-Have you ensured that any photos you use are sized to no larger than 2000x1500 pixels in size?
Yes, size is not more than 2000x1500
    - You're using a somewhat antiquated 32-bit operating system that can make limited use of your RAM load (which may explain why you only have 3 gigs of RAM), so you'll need to optimize your workflow by matching project settings to your video as closely as possible in order for the program to work effectively and stably.
yes, you're right. need to upgrade to 64bit. so I put 4GB of RAM, but I can not install 64bit Vindovs. no time. and available only 3.25 GB.
I would add, I hope it will help isolate the problem.
I've been tracking work in process monitor Pr. the very moment when it closes when you move the video on the timeline.
    begins after the closing lines
    Registry

I turned drvatson. now the error appears as a window.

  • Premiere Elements 8 crashes when I try to use it.

This has been an issue for several months now, which I have been unable to find a resolution to. Things to keep in mind are that I am not very computer-savvy, so the fix could be quite simple and I am just missing it.
    The problem:
Back in August, I asked my boyfriend to clean off some space on my computer because it was starting to act up sometimes. I know that he deleted some programs that I was not using, but as far as I know, none of them had to do with Premiere Elements 8. But as soon as that happened, I couldn't use it any more.
    What happens:
I can open up a new file just fine. I think I can even open an already existing file (it has been a few months since I've tried that). It is when I try to import a video file into the program that it shuts down. My computer remains functioning; other tabs and programs will not be affected, my laptop does not shut down or glitch. It is just Adobe.
    What I've tried:
I uninstalled the program twice and re-installed it. That didn't work either time.
I checked to make sure that I still have Quicktime installed. I do, and it is updated.
I made sure I have room on my computer. There isn't a lot, and it is not a fast computer, but then again, it never has been.
I've done all system updates, defragmented my computer, etc. All of the maintenance I can think of.
I searched my problem on this forum and google, but haven't had success finding a case similar enough to mine (possibly due to my inadequate search skills).
    What I'm looking for now:
I suspect that there is a program that has been deleted that was important for Premiere Elements 8. However, I cannot figure out what program that might be.
    Miscellaneous:
Adobe Reader has also been acting up on my computer. I've reinstalled it several times, but it persists in either working at a snail's pace (15 minutes to open a 500 KB document, which I think is not very big. Again, my computer know-how is lacking), or else not working at all and shutting itself down.
About my computer (I apologize in advance for omitted or extraneous information):
I have an HP laptop, 2 years old. (Model: HP G56 Notebook PC)
It runs on Windows 7, and has an Intel Celeron core.
It has a 64-bit operating system.
My hard drive has 216 GB of space total. 73 GB are free.
I have 3 GB of RAM.
Thank you in advance for any help. I'd really like to get this program working again.

I would start with this FAQ Entry first, if you have not done so yet: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0
It starts with a checklist for getting PrE set up properly, then moves into tuning up one's system and OS (you have done a lot of that already), and then goes into troubleshooting tips. Note: those tips rather work up quickly in "degree of difficulty," and DO become quite technical, but things like the "Finding Clues" link will give some tools, that might prove useful, like the use of Windows' Event Viewer to track down issues.
One of the first things to look at would be your video driver. I would go to the video card's/chip's mfgr's. Web site, and check for a later driver. Do not trust Windows, or any utility to tell you if you have the latest driver. If there is not a newer video driver, or it will not install properly on your system, be sure to check with the HP Web site, as HP, Dell, Lenovo, and some other mfgrs. will re-package video drivers to suit their specific setup.
One troubleshooting technique, that might prove useful (however, those deleted programs bother me a bit here), would be to create a System Restore Point for now (see Windows Help for doing this with your particular OS version). Then, boot to Safe Mode, and choose an older System Restore Point, from when things did work. This might take some trial-and-error, to get back far enough. Test. At the worst, you will only have lost a few minutes, as you have your new System Restore Point for now, to fall back on.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do I sharpen video from DSLR in Premiere Elements 11?

I've been using PE11 for some time now. Mostly for home videos and a youtube channel. Up until this point I have used a Canon Vixia HF M-50 which was great. I had to do very little adjusting the picture in post for what I needed. But I just recieved a Canon 7D with a couple good lenses and I will be selling the Vixia. I know the 7D has the capability to take much better video and I am getting better at the manual settings. Most tutorials out there say to have your settings with the sharpness and contrast turned all the way down and adjust in post. The sharpen "effect" doesn't really do much and my footage from the vixia looks much sharper. Any help out there for a newb? Or am I going to have to upgrade my computer and software to keep up with the new equipment?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for getting back
I used a Samsung SMX-F40BP/XEU "Handycam" recording from the the image projected on to a screen. This produced mp4 video files on an SD Card, H.264/AVC Format with AAC Audio
I then dragged and dropped the raw video files on to the PC hard drive, and added the folder to the Adobe Organizer.
    When creating the projects I
    1)     Create a a New Project PAL Standard DV 48KHz to match the 4:3 aspect ratio of the original film
    2)     Drag the video/clip I intend to work with from the organizer window in to the work are of Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
When I was originally doing this yesterday for the first 15 clips, when added to the timeline, the video clips appeared as 1 contiguous clip as in the first image i posted.
When i went to work today I noticed that when i dragged a clip from the organiser to the work area, the video took longer to appear on the timeline, I could see the progress as it was added, with lines appearing where scenes/splits are being automatically added as in the second image I posted.
I noticed first thing that the clips were appearing in the organiser window with different icons, and in some cases I could expand the clips to see all scenes that had apparently been generated automatically. All clips in the orgnaiser now appear with the same icon, and are all expandable.
If i now create a new project and use one of the original clips that originally appeared as 1 contiguous clip on the timeline, it is now split automatically, as with the later clips.

  • 'serious error' when creating a new project in adobe premiere elements 10

    Hello,
I saw similar questions on the forums but not quite what is happening with me.
First off I should say i've never had this working however the copy of premiere elements 7 we had worked perfectly fine. I am a technician in a school and i'm trying to install the software for the students (we have lots of lisences). The software appears to install perfectly fine and the launcher works. I click to create a new project (or open an old one) premiere appears to load up correctly. It only crashes once I click to browse for a location to save the file.
The error message says, as i've noticed seems to be a generic message for any error on premiere: "Sorry, A serious error has occured that has caused Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project"
At first I thought this was student user rights (as students do not have access to C:\) however I have since tried it with my own admin account which has full rights and effectively should be able to do anything and it still continues to crash.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Application Crash

Operating System: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
    BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.60.48F.1B
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
    Memory: 16384MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 16332MB RAM
Page File: 2657MB used, 30058MB available
    Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Speakers and Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)
    750GB Integrated Hard Disk Drive
    3TB External Hard Disk Drive
While editing a 30:44 minute avi video file with 3 wav audio source files in Premiere Elements 11 the application crashes, no system errors or system crashes.
Windows reports that Premiere Elements 11 crashes and closes the program, no error message.
The crash occurs around the five minute marker of the video, I do not want to go past the 5 minute marker because I want to make sure my video is well throughout.
The video file is 28.8GB and both the video file and the Premiere Project File are located in the same 3TB External Hard Disk Drive.
The only programs running while I edit are Steam, Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus+, Dxtory, and Premiere Elements 11.
I have read over some of the other forums regarding premiere crashing and MOST of the ones that were relevent to my inquiry are from 2008-10 and involve premiere 8 on Windows Vista. This is prevelent on both Adobe and Google.
I have also ran a disk cleanup, disk defrag, system restart, and update checks, all updates are up to date, I check every month.

I only have the single 30:44 duration video.
I also downloaded G-Spot, from a suggestion made by Bill Hunt in an older post on the forum to find out the specific codecs that were involved in the video I am editing and what I received back was:
Under Video, the codec was listed as 'xtor'.
Under Audio, the codec was listed as 'PCM Audio'
The only video file in the edit is the 30:44 duration video file.
I used a recording software that I purchased called Dxtory, the program allows me to record certain programs on my computer's screen, namely video games.
The video's format is an AVI file, and the specific video codec is 'xtor' and the specific audio codec is 'PCM Audio', according to G-spot.
The video's resolution is 1280x720, the resolution is what I set my games to, if available, and its the resolution I have Dxtory setup to record.
Under Edit/Project Settings/General the project settings are set to 1080i, 1920x1080 resolution, on default.
I cannot change the settings for some reason, they are unavailable for me to customize, probably cause its the default until I add a video file.
However, when I open the 30:44 video project, the Edit/Project Settings/General settings are set to Sony XD Cam EX 720p, 1280x720. I do see a yellow line under the time line in the project, the line is not exactly above the video clips. I am also in Expert View.
My time line has changed increments, last night when I posted my first post, the time table was in increments of 22 seconds, and now its in increments of 15 seconds, the yellow line is below these increments, but only in certain parts, for my project the yellow line appears in the time table in the first 1 minutes 51 second and later at 4 minute 36 second increment to 4 minute 47 second increment. I do not have an edit on the first 1:51, but on the 4:36-4:47 I do have a text edit that sits on video 2, that was the last edit I did on the project, the application shortly crashes after 4:47, the crash is also occuring with and without the text edit. I'm going to continue to check settings and I will use Windows Event Viewer to find if I missed anything.
    Thank you for your asssistance.

  • Error exporting long movie in Premiere Elements 4

I just finished editing a movie in Premiere Elements 4.  Every time I try to export the movie, it begins rendering, gets as far as about 15%, and then says "Export Error: Error compiling movie.  Unknown error."  This happens no matter what format I choose.
I've read that this problem can be caused by titles and transitions, of which this movie has both.  But I think the problem is entirely due to the movie's length, which is six minutes and fifty-five seconds.  I say this because if I split the movie into 25-to-50-second chunks, leaving all titles and transitions intact, all the chunks export with no problems whatsoever.
I'm not running any other programs while the movie exports, but that doesn't help.
The source files are MOV (and one PNG), and the resolution is 1920x1080.  I want to export it at the same resolution, otherwise what was the point of shooting in that resolution?  I'm running Windows Vista on a Samsung R522 laptop, if it helps.
For what it's worth, I did manage to successfully export the audio portion of the movie as a WAV file.
What can I do?  My movie is due to premiere at a local arts festival in a few weeks, so I need to sort this out.  I read somewhere that the ideal setup is to have three drives -- one for the source videos, one for running the program, and one to export the file onto.  Will that help?
Many thanks for any suggestions you may have.
    -Grant

Thanks Bill -- and thank you mods for moving the thread.  I couldn't find an Elements forum so I assumed there wasn't one.
Actually, the progress bar in my version does tell you what frame it's on.  When I tried to export it just now, it gave up around frame 2328 of 12447.  Frame 2328 would be 01:17:18... which is the middle of a clip, with no titles, no effects, and no transitions, just ordinary video and sound.  30%, the number you suggested, gives frame 3738, which is 02:04:18, which is a different clip but the same deal.
The exact number varies from attempt to attempt anyway, which is why I think it's a "system memory" problem rather than a problem with a certain moment in the film.  As I said, each part of the film exported fine on its own.
The videos are all MOV format, 1920x1080, ranging in size from 40 MB to 666 MB (maybe the devil is trying to stop me from exporting).  There are 41 of them, giving a total of 11.9 GB.  The single PNG is also 1920x1080 and 6.02 KB.  The movie's audio is actually muted -- the audio that I successfully exported before was just the original audio from the raw clips.
I've got 55.3 GB of free space on my C drive and 580 GB of free space on my external drive; Premiere won't successfully export onto either of them.
Thanks for the link to the KB article, but I'd read it before and it didn't really help.  As it says, "unknown error" really does mean just that.  And it's clear that none of my clips or effects are problematic since they all exported fine when split into chunks.
I really do appreciate your help!  I don't know too much about computers so if I didn't give you the information you were looking for please let me know.
    Thanks so much,
    -Grant

  • Premiere Elements 11 no longer recognizes my external blu-ray burner.

I have used my Samsung SE-506BB-TSBD external burner many times before today, but for some reason Premiere Elements 11 is not recognizing it. Windows 7 sees it just fine. Premiere Elements 8 (which is still loaded on the same computer) also does not recognize it.
What do I need to do? Samsung's website is no help, but I have a feeling it's an Adobe issue since Windows 7 still recognizes the drive.

When is your Blu-ray burner not recognized
Premiere Elements 11: burn to DVD disc, burn to Blu-ray disc, burn to AVCHD on DVD disc, or all?
Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1: burn to DVD disc, burn to Blu-ray disc, or both?
    and when you wrote:
I have used my Samsung SE-506BB-TSBD external burner many times before today
Did "....many times before today" imply that you could use the burner for Premiere Elements 11 and 8.0/8.0.1 before. I am trying to get a whether this is a "it worked before but now" or a "it never worked before" type issue.
Do you have the USB 2.0 cable connected to a USB 2.0 computer port directly or via a USB multi port hub? I take it that this burner does not have AC support? If you are using only 1 USB 2.0 port, can you set up the burner for 2 USB 2.0 ports?
Does the computer involved have an internal burner? Or is this the only burner that you have available to you external or internal for the computer?
Let us start here and then decide what avenues of further troubleshooting are available to us.
    Thanks.
