Premiere Elements 12 - Timeline Rendering Question.

Hello All.
When I add my video files to my timeline, press the "Render" button for a smoother timeline, after the process has finished, the quality looks terrible. Am I doing something wrong?

More later in the morning. But just leaving you with some things to check out.
In Premiere Elements 12, the render indicator system is
You are getting the best possible preview, no rendering possible since you already have best preview
no colored line over Timeline content
green line over Timeline content
You are not getting best possible preview, rendering possible
orange line over the Timeline content
Above the Timeline is the Work Area Bar with two gray tabs. Those tabs need to span the whole content to be rendered. Are your gray tabs of the Work Area Bar doing that? If not, move them to span the content to be rendered. Keyboard shortcuts are
Alt + [ for the left gray tab at the start of the content
Alt+] for the right gray tab at the end of the content
If none of the above factors into your present situation, you might want to post a screenshot of your Timeline setup in the Expert workspace of your Premiere Elements 12.
Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 12 not rendering

I am working on a project and I noticed that in two clips brought in (both MP4) were not rendering.  In fact, there was not even a red line above the clips.  The other two MP4 clips rendered fine and show the green line.  So I deleted the two clips and then added them back fresh.  They now have an orangish line (not red) and they are not rendering to provide the green line to show they have been rendered.
Any help on this is appreciated!

  • Premiere Elements 10 timeline playback pictures keep freezing

Hi, I'm using Premiere Elements 10 and when I playback my timeline, most of the time at least part of the video pictures freeze or judder whilst the sound stays continuous. This is obviously a total nightmare in terms of trying to edit! I am new to Elements (am used to editing on Avid and FCP) - am not very impressed so far!
I have established that it is not a problem with my laptop. Also - when I start up Elements it gives me a link to this page http://www.adobe.com/special/premiereel/downloads/ saying I need to update BUT all those updates seems to be for "themed content" - so I am assuming that a) I don't need them and b) that they are unrelated to the freezing issue - Is that right?
    Any help hugely appreciated!
    Thanks.

Thank you for the screen grab. You're right. The MOV video from the DSLR does seem to be matched to the project settings. (I assume you've got the latest version of Quicktime installed.) So it could be that your system is just lugging.
Your hardware is good for basic video editing -- but you're editing 1920x1080 24p. With version 10, that can be a bit demanding for a dual core running at 1.8 ghz. Particularly on a laptop, which tends to have a slower throughput.
You still haven't said what operating system you're using or how much RAM you have. But if you're running Windows 7 or 8 at 64-bit and you have at least 4 gigs of RAM, you may want to download the demo of Premiere Elements 11. It's got a much more efficient HD engine that runs at 64-bit on those OSes.
One of my computers is a dual-core Intel running at 2.6ghz, and the difference in the way it handles AVCHD video in Premiere Elements 10 and the way it handles it in Premiere Elements 11 is like day and night.
It's possible Bill or Neale or John or ATR or another of the regulars on this forum have additional thoughts. But, based on the questions you did answer, that's about all I can offer. Sorry.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Not rendering all my footage Windows 8.1

I read other topics but what I found was only for Mac computers. I can't get all my footage to render it will only render the first 2 or 3 % and act like it's complete when it is not.. I know it's not the footage itself because I've been working on this project on and off for weeks and have rendered this project many time before with no problem at all. It just started to day. I don't know what else to do but start over and that will be the third time I've restarted this one  project that should even take this long! It's driving me nuts!
    Please Help!

Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit).
    1. For the footage that you want to render to get the best possible preview....is there an orange line over that content before you hit the Render button?
    2. Look to the area above the Timeline, to the Work Area Bar and its 2 gray tabs. Are those gray tabs set to span the whole content of the footage that has the orange line over it?
Hope I caught you before you started over. We should be able to figure this out and save you the time involved
    with a re-do.

  • Adobe premiere elements 10 trial watermark question

    Hi there,
I just had a question regarding the water mark in premiere elements 10. I know the watermark stays until I buy the full version. But if I was to find a full version on another computer. Can I take the file to the other computer to remove the water from it?
I did some work on it and I don't want to go to waste. I have a friend that has elements 7 I believe. It would be great if I can just save the file and open it there for the watermark to disappear. I just wanted to ask if that would work.
    Thanks!

When you do go to a "full-paid" version of PrE, on another computer, this FAQ Entry might prove useful.

  • Premiere Elements 7 Basic Editing Question for DV

    Hello all,
    I have PE7, a Q6600 quad-core, and Windows 7 64bit.
I have captured about 6 hours of Standard Definition 16:9 DV footage from my church's grand opening ceremony.  Video was captured from an old Pana PV-GS320.
The church wants a dynamic video to be produced from the captured footage (60 minutes at the most in length).  I plan on doing many different effects including semi-transparent video layering, picture in picture, inserting photographs, and inputing audio clips from the ceremony.  The final product will be a standard definition DVD disc.
I've done some research regarding how DV is interlaced and output for  DVD should be interlaced (unless I'm wrong in that conclusion, let me  know).  I also know that doing heavy editing with interlaced footage  (slowing/speeding footage, zooming in and out, rotating, multiple  layering, etc) may create flickering and "mice teeth" in the video.  I've also searched through these forums and keep on running into HD  questions/solutions...  I guess I'm asking an old question that was probably  answered long ago when DV tape ruled the world.
    QUESTION 1:
So, if I may ask, in order to get the best results, should I prepare my raw footage in PE7 before editing it by (1) by deinterlacing it? (2) exporting it as progressive? (3) both? (4) leave it alone and begin editing away? or (5) am I missing another option?
    QUESTION 2:
Also, what resolution would be best to import the photos into the project?
I know the best way to work with any video is to make as little changes as possible to it, but this is unavoidable in my case.  No one wants to sit through 6 hours of video...
Thankyou very much for reading my questions and I really hope you have some time to answer it!  Thanks for any information!  I really appreciate it!
    -141rockwell

Relax, rockwell. You're making it all unnecessarily complicated.
If you've captured your video as DV-AVIs over a FireWire connection, you won't get "mice teeth" in your final product. The program is designed to work with interlaced video and create interlaced DVDs. The results should look virtually as good as the original footage! You can't damage video with "excess editing."
Just trust the program to take care of the technical issues. You can concentrate on the editing.
As for any photos you want to add, you'll get the best results if they're no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size, per the FAQs to the right of the forum.

  • Premiere elements 10 timeline dragging problem

Hi .. I have installed Premiere Elements 10.0 Trial version and am seeing a problem with the user interface when I drag a clip within the timeline.
The screen-image from the top part of the user-interface  becomes the background of the timeline section when a clip is dragged within the timeline - see attached images (before dragging, and during dragging).
I saw there was a Java runtime issue for Lion, so I have now installed this - didn't fix the issue (unless I have to reinstall PRE after I've installed the runtime).
I am running the following system:
    MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
    Any thoughts welcomed, thanks,
    Adam
[UPDATE] I see this is a known issue.
    Message was edited by: phibot

Thanks for the feedback Steve ..
In the screen-grabs above, the video clip was from an old VHS imported to iMovie (using a canopus ADVC-55).  I'm sure you are right - the settings wouldn't have been matching .. although I didn't keep the project so I can't check (it was a jpeg still on video 1).
Ihave now tried again - with project settings matching the video clip file (DV PAL 25 fps 720 x 576), no jpegs, and the red lines are gone .. but the problem is still there when I drag a clip within the timeline (even if there's just one clip in the project).  As mentioned in my edit, I see there is a known issue with Mac OS X Lion and PRE in the Timeline .. link here, although that says there are colour artifacts in the Timeline where I'm seeing the screen-image from above duplicated as the background, but I'm sure it's the same bug.
    .. thanks again - helpful stuff I didn't know.

  • Can you change Premiere Elements 13 timeline to act like Premiere Pro CS4?

    Hi there,
I recently started using Premiere Elements 13 after previously having used Premiere Pro CS4 (both mac versions if that makes a difference). All is great but I have encountered one major difference which makes Elements 13 a bit of a pain and was wondering if it was changeable. Basically, when you alter the length of a clip that's touching up against another one they remain stuck together and everything else in the timeline shifts up accordingly. In Premiere Pro CS4 if you changed the length of a clip joined to another (where the two join) it would simply create a gap. Frankly, I find the latter a much better way of working. What I tend to use Premiere for on the whole is adding still images to a voice track rather than working with video clips with linked audio. I know this isn't exactly what Premiere is designed for but it worked so much better in CS4 and wondered if you could tweak Premiere Elements 13 to behave a bit more like CS4.
    Any help much appreciated!
    Iain

Hold down the Ctrl key as you shorten the duration of a clip using the mouse cursor. That should give you the gap that you seek. That works for Premiere Elements Windows. (I am strictly an Elements Windows user.)
With your Premiere Elements Mac computer, try holding down the Command key as you shorten the duration of a clip using the mouse cursor.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 2.0 Capture Question

    Hello,
I am trying to capture some old VHS tapes onto my computer through my camcorder and into Elements 2.0. I have the setting on the camcorder set to AV --> DV and when I go to the capture mode in Elements, the video, sound, etc. appear fine (this is when I play the tape hitting play on the vcr and all appears well on my computer screen).
When I go to hit capture, it essentially "pauses" the camcorder...the camcorder screens turns blue (it is not paused though, as the "play" button is lit on the camcorder). The VCR still keeps playing but the video/audio from the VCR does not get to the camcorder or ultimately to the computer. If I hit "stop capture" the camcorder now indicates "pause" and so the video still does not appear. But if I hit the "stop" playback button on the camcorrder, the video appears again on camcorder and on computer.
When hitting capture again, it is a big circle....camcorder and computer go blue, vcr keeps running and video/audio do not appear until I hit "stop" on camcorder.
If anyone has any ideas on this, I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    Mike

It sounds like you're using a pass-through to capture your video -- connected a miniDV camcorder between your VCR and computer. Is that right?
If so, ensure that there is no tape in the camcorder. Also go to Premiere Elements Device Control and turn off the options to disable on dropped frames.
You will not be able to control your VCR from the program, of course, since there's no direct connection between Premiere Elements and your video source. You'll need to start the VCR manually and then click the Capture button in Premiere Elements.
Those are the general steps anyway. If you'll give us more details about the process you're using and the equipment you're using, we might be able to offer more detailed help.

  • Poor quality photos after rendering in Premiere Elements 10 timeline

I've imported my photos from Photoshop Elem. 10, at 720x480 res., 72 ppi, jpeg files. and the photo quality is blurred and pixelated and rendering the timeline doesn't seem to help.  I checked the flicker removal box...I'm not sure that helped much either.  I did a number of these photo videos in an old Premiere application and never ever had this problem, so I'm not sure what's going on. The photo in the preview looks just fine.   I'm doing this video for my daughter's wedding, so want it to be of the best quality.   Can anyone give me any hints.

This is rather a PS, on display of DVD-Video on HD TV's. Just did a SlideShow of ~  4000 x 3000 pxls. Still Images, Scaled to 720 x 480 in PS w/ Bicubic Sharper. It was output to a DVD-Video. When I tested it on my laptop with an HD display, the Images looked just OK - DVD resolution w/ no up-rezzing chip involved. However, when I played that same disc on my Panasonic BD player (w/ up-rezzing chip) on a 42" LED TV, things looked great. Only little problem was that in one Image, I got a bit of "glimmer" in some roof tiles - that Image had been slightly over-Sharpened. My bad. As the glimmer was only in one Image, and its Duration was 05 sec., I let it go, as I doubt that anyone else will even see it, when fed to two very large Diamondtron screens in a semi-dark event hall.
The gist of that is that when played on the multi-drive onto my laptop's 17" HD screen, w/ no up-rezzing chip, the Images were just OK - nothing special, and I knew those Images intimately. However, w/ up-rezzing chip in the BD player, and displayed on a much larger screen, the overall quality improved greatly.
    Good luck,

  • Premiere Elements 9: suddenly rendering is slow

    Hi,
I have been using PRE 9 for some months now on my PC built especially for HD video editing and was very satisfied with the performance of the system. Even complex timelines were rendered within seconds or few minutes. The system has a Core i7 950 (3.06 GHz, 4 cores +HT), 6GB Ram, and a fast 1TB disk for all high volume files (footage, user profiles, PRE9 scratch, only 30% full, no fragmentation). The system runs Windows 7 Pro, 64Bit, the operating system resides on a 64GB SSD (60% full). PRE9 used to use all 8 cores at 100%, when I pressed the Return button to render or exported the result, so that was really a pleasure!
But since a few weeks, rendering is awfully slow even for simple and short timelines. Watching the CPU usage in Windows' resource monitor, I see that only one CPU core has some load, some cores are even "parked" - while I am waiting for the result!
I am using the same footage and the same effects. I even tried one of my old projects that used to render really fast but even this is very slow now!
There was no Adobe update in the meantime, but surely some Windows updates - and ah, I installed Microsoft Expression Encoder which also put .NET 4 on the system.
Any idea how I could make PRE use all of my expensive cores again? Is there hint that Expression or .NET 4 could be responsible for that? Would deinstallation help in any way? Or are there other reasons (Windows, PRE9)? Did anybody encounter similar problems?
    Any help appreciated,
    Uwe.

    Welcome to the forum.
Thank you for the follow-up post, and especially the info, that older Projects still Render at speed. That does point strongly at some Effects being more efficient, than others.
Some Effects are just processor hogs, and not all are as efficient, as others are. Some do most of their processing in the CPU, some hand off some of the processing to the GPU (we do not see much of that in PrE, but do in PrPro CS5 and above, where MPE and CUDA really come into play), and some are I/O (HDD's and their sub-system) intensive. It depends on the Effect. Also, some are just more efficient, by their code, than others.
As an example, if I add Neat Video (a "grain/noise" removal Effect, which is 3rd party), I can expect Render times to go up by at least 2x, and depending on the amount of "cleaning," up to 4x. This is because of the processing load, required for those Effects. The same can be said for Red Giant's Magic Bullet Looks - they are great and useful Effects, but they are very slow to process. Not being a developer, I cannot comment on how efficiently those should work, vs how efficiently they do work. Could the slow ones be streamlined in their coding, to do better? Probably.
It is also quite common for 3rd party Effects to be less efficient, than the Adobe Effects, but even the Adobe Effects could probably be refined to use a higher % of the available resources.
One potential problem for Adobe, and other Effects developers, is that there is a very wide range of equipment out there, and their goal, after creating an Effect that does certain things, is to find a niche for the performance. That means that people with slower equipment will have real slowdowns, and those, like you, with fast equipment, will not be utilizing the full potential of their systems.
Some years ago, Adobe rewrote PrE (and also PrPro), to take advantage of the then recently introduced SSE 2 Instruction Set, but this meant that older AMD processors, specifically, would no longer run Premiere - 1/4 of the install-base screamed bloody murder, and even many years after that change, still do. We just had a post from a user, who had been using PrE 2, IIRC, on an older AMD, and was devastated, that PrE 9 would not install on the computer, because of the lack of SSE 2 support. If Adobe, and the 3rd party providers optimized their Effects to the latest i7's with a 64-bit OS, the majority of users would be screaming, "what about us?!?!"
I think that we will see some major improvements, when the world has gone to 64-bit OS's. We have seen improvements in PrPro, which requires 64-bit for both the OS and all plug-ins. Add MPE & CUDA support, and things get much more efficient, though all Effects cannot take full advantage - though one day they might.
Unfortunately, we are at a "cross-roads," with regards to development - there are many good things ahead, but we have not been able to see them implemented 100% yet. I am afraid, that we just have to wait a bit, 'cause we are in a "that's just the way it is" situation. Will things change? Yes - they always do. About all that one can do, is to keep their super-system tuned to the max, and it appears that you are already there.
    Good luck to us all,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Elements 10:  timeline bogs down.  Pls help!

My first post on what looks like a very helpful forum.  I'm hoping one of you smart guys can help me.
I bought and started using PrE10 a few weeks ago.  Making family videos for Youtube, etc.
Here's my issue:  playback on the timeline is, at times, choppy and frustratingly slow!  If I put more than three or four clips together, with no effects, the playback slows to about 1 fps.  If I stop playback, wait a second, and hit PLAY again, it is smooth until it hits the next clip, then it's chop-chop again.
And if I add a TITLE?  Forget about it.  The audio sounds fine, but the video playback STOPS, at least on the portion with the title.  When I save the project as an MPEG and play it back, it's fine.  But editing precisely on a choppy playback is pure madness.
I bought a new video card today, replacing my GEFORCE 9500 GT (1MB) with a GeFORCE 430 GT (2MB).  I just tried it out:  exact same issue, zero improvement.  Arghh!
Here's my computer:  what part needs upgrading to give me nice silky smooth playback?

  • No audio on Timeline Premiere Elements 13 and no longer on 12 after upgrading to 13.

On my Mac with OS X Yosemite I've worked with Premiere Elements 12 for a while and it just worked fine. Now I;ve upgraded to Elements 13 and the clips that were fine the other day have now lost there audio when I put them on the Timeline. However if I double click the clip in project assets and play it on the clip monitor everything is fine, but as soon as I send it to the timeline or storyboard the audio disappears. I'm in a spot now as I can't use 13 and neither return to Elements 12. Any ideas will be very much apprexiated.

    Momentary detour.....
Could we go over the path
Just a week ago I created a movie with Elements 12 on this same Mac with OS X Yosemite and ij
just worked fine. On second thoughts the movie was a bit too long, so I
imported the saved project to re-edit it, only to find out that the audio
had gone for the greater part of the clips on the timeline. I closed
elements 13 and reopened 12 and the saved project with the same result.
When you got to second thoughts, what did you do....
    a. rebuild the project anew in Premiere Elements 13?
    b. import the Premiere Elements 12 export in Premiere Elements 13?
    c. open the Premiere Elements 12 project in Premiere Elements 13?
I ask since you cannot import one project file into another and you wrote "imported the saved project".
You wrote after the file was drag from Premiere Elements 13 Project Assets to Timeline
only to find out that the audio had gone for the greater part of the clips on the timeline.
What was gone - the representation of the whole audio clip on the audio track or just the sound
for the whole? Was the duration of the clip listed in Project Assets, the same as observed at
    its Timeline level?
If you took this Premiere Elements 13 Timeline (problem audio there) to export, was there sound in the export?
If you create a project in an earlier version, it is often possible to open it in a later version to work with the project in the later version.
But, you cannot open the later version edited project in the earlier project again. So, I was not sure what you were describing when
    you wrote
I closed elements 13 and reopened 12 and the saved project with the same result.
    What saved project?
    Premiere Elements 13 Audio
Please consider deleting the Media Cache Files Folder where the program saves the automatically generated conformed audio.
To locate that Folder, on Windows I could go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks/Media Cache to find location for the Media Cache Files Folder. Is that the
    same for Mac?
Also, please let us know if the flawed Premiere Elements 13 Timeline audio content exports OK or contains the flaws encountered before export.
Again, please excuse if I have included things that you were already aware of. Because of the nature of your issue, I did not want to take anything for grant.

  • Does dragging transitions to timeline work in Premiere Elements 11?

    Hello,
If you drag a transition in the timeline between two clips, before you release the mouse button, you can place it at the left, centered or at the right of the clips  (the cursor looks like a kind of flag and changes depending on the position between clips).
Theorically this should be the same than changing Alignment in Transitions Adjustments dialog box but it doesn't work to me, wherever I release the mouse button it selects Between Clips Alignment.
I'm reading Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Classroom in a book and in chapter 7 Creating Transitions it says "In the test software used while writting this lesson, where you dropped the transition did not affect the alignment shown in the Transition Adjustments dialog........".
It seems that this functionality hasn't been improved since Premiere Elements 11 was being tested.
Does anybody can tell me if this option works correctly, please?
    Thanks

    marcos
I should be ready soon to post my links to very detailed information on Premiere Elements video and audio transitions.
    But of immediate report..
If I have two trimmed video clips on the Premiere Elements 11 Timeline and I drag the Curtain video transition to either Left Clip, Between Clips, or Right Clip, the Transition Adjustments Pop Up will appear. I find no case yet where I can stop it from appearing with the placement of the transition. And, under the circumstances described (2 trimmed clips), the auto "snap to" will be to Between Clips, and that alignment will not be changed when I click Done on the Transition Adjustments Pop Up.
All of that is in accord with the Adobe Guidelines that it has published for what to expect for transition alignment for trimmed and untrimmed clips.
If I wanted Left Clip or Right video Clip alignment, I would have had to have selected that option before I clicked Done to the Pop Up.
Do you see anything significantly different from that when you are doing the same with trimmed video clips and video transitions in Premiere Elements 11?
    Thanks for the follow up.
