Premiere Elements 4.0 won't start, any help?

Hi All,
I'm running a fully updated windows xp media center edition os on my pc.
I have premiere elements 4.0 installed. I haven't used it in about six months, but prior to that it was working flawlessly.
I went to start the program today, and I get the purple circle splash screen to pop up, but then the process "adobe premeire elements.exe" just disappears, the splash screen dissapears, and nothing happens, it's just gone, with no error messages.
I tried killing off as many other processes on my machine as possible, including my anti virus program eset nod 32 and the problem persists.
I was hoping someone here could help me figure out what is causing this.

Six months in the life of a PC could equate to a few lifetimes when looking at how your machines health and well being may have been impacted.
If it worked in the past, you'd like to think it is a simple process to figure out why it won't work today, well it's not.
A simple first approach may be to load the install disk and at the prompt, run a Repair of PE.
A second shot at redemption would be to completely uninstall PE, and then run a clean install.
All this is assuming you have the latest and greatest updates, drivers, and Quicktime installed...

Know why Premiere Elements 3.0 won't start when I double click the icon?

I have Windows Vista 32 bit. I have Premiere Elements 3.0 and the 3.0.2 patch. When I double click the icon, it won't load. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app but it still won't load. It worked as recently as last week. I had some virus issues so I took my laptop to Geek squad and they "fixed" the issues.
I never had this problem with Premiere before. Anybody know what might be causing it not to start?
I have been considering an upgrade. I see that they are up to version 9. Will version 9 even work on Vista?

It depends.
What do you mean by "I never had this problem before"? Do you mean Premiere Elements worked fine until the Geek squad restored your computer?
Unless they totally wiped your hard drive and reinstalled your operating system, they may have patched but not totally fixed your problem.
Or it could be that your computer just needs a good cleaning and defragging. Assuming you've got adequate power and a good 30-50 gigabytes of free defragmented space on your C drive.
But there's a very good chance that, if you've re-installed version 3 and it still won't run, then version 9 won't run either. After all, if you still haven't remedied yoru core problem, a new vehicle isn't likely to make any difference, right?
Still, there's no harm in trying. Why not download free trial and see?

Premiere elements 11 program won't start/open anymore.

I was using at 7am no problem and my computer died (it has done that numerous times before and i've never expeirneced this problem, just died because the power chord is loose) and then i go to finish editing around 4p and now the program won't open. everythingelse (google, files, media, other programs) run and open fine but not premiere. I am not tech savvy and don't really understand what other forums are saying, i'm definitely consumer level. please please help, i don't want to lose my work.

If you need specs i need a walk through how to check. Its a dell computer that can run world of warcraft just fine so i don't think its the driver or graphic card, and again premiere was working just this morning.
Its a dell i've had for 3 years.

Typically I start with lots and lots of questions to define the situation.
In view of the circumstances that you describe, I am going to start with a suggestion rather than questions. Then, if the suggestion does not work, then I will send a lot of questions your way.
Delete the Premiere Elements 11 settings file, named Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs. In Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the path to it is:
Local Disk C
Users
Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Premiere Elements
11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 11.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.

Premiere Elements 11 editor won't start

I've used this program on three previous projects on my HP with a Icore5 processor and have had no problems. Recently I have started a new wedding project and was having some problems with the media loading very slowly. I finally got tired of waiting on it to load and restarted the machine. After that the video editor will not start. I ran "malwarebytes" to get rid of the malware and spyware after I experienced the problem. I have tried to load it from the organizer too and have had no luck. when I click on the editor, the purple and black "loading" bar act as if the program is loading ,but eventually will just stop. Also if you suggest that I reload the software ,is there a way to retrieve the project that I started or do I have to start over. Please give me some suggestions as I am becoming very frustrated with this and at wits end!!! The organizer opens just fine. Thanks in advance for any help!!

One of my family lines is made up of truck drivers. There is no such thing as a mere truck driver.
If you want, I will try to help you find those files that GautamBahl suggested. I do not know if that is the answer. But we can rule it in or out as a factor in your issue so that you can move forward with your video editing project.

SLstore (disable or delete)
You are going to go to Computer and then follow the path...
Local Disk C Folder
Program Data Folder
Adobe Folder
and in the Adobe Folder is the SLstore folder that you delete or disable
(if you disable, then just change the file name from SLstore to SLstoreOLD...to rename, right click the folder, and rename in the field provided).
See Path in Header .....Computer Local Disk (C:) ProgramData Adobe.....
The line up on the right side of the screenshot represents what is in the Adobe Folder in the path. All you want is the SLstore Folder in that Adobe Folder. Right click it there for the renaming for disabling.

and in the Adobe Folder is the SLcache Folder that you will delete or disable as described above.

The line up on the right side of the screenshot represents what is in the path's Adobe Folder. You want the SLCache Folder in the Adobe Folder in the path shown in this second screenshot.
Now you may miss this if
a. you do not scroll down far enough in the folders
and
b. if you have not selected Show Hidden FIles, Folders, and Drives in Folder Options.
To set this...
Click computer's Start button
In Search field above Start Button, type in Folder Options
At the top of that left column that you are in, click on Folder Options that will appear there at the top of the column
In the Folder Options dialog, click on View Tab
Under View Tab, find the Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives option and dot it.

Link for Adobe Premiere Elements 11 will not work. Any help please?

I bought my Premiere Elements package from another seller which gave me a link to download from Adobe. The product key thing is legit but every time I click on the file link for windows, my laptop comes up with this message: "The file archive of Adobe Premiere Elements 11 is missing. You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract Adpbe Premiere Elements 11. Please download all parts."
What does this mean??? Can anyone help me??? Please!

it means you only download of the 2 needed files. there are files 1 of 2, and 2 of 2. you need both. try again.

If Layers is greyed out it possibly means that you are in Quick Mode. Select 'Expert' and all the options should become available.
Try permanently associating psd files with C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and see if that fixes the issue. Instructions here - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/choose-programs-windows-uses-default.

Premiere Elements 4 audio won't play on mp4 files, codecs missing/unavailable on .mov files

I dowlnloaded Premiere Elements 4, and when I import mp4 files, the video plays but the audio will not. I've also tried to import .mov files, and an error message pops up that says "Codec missing or unavailable." I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, but that didn't change anything. The files will play back on the video camera, but I"m having trouble with them on my computer. The audio on the mp4 files plays in Quicktime, but not the video, and vice versa when I import them into Elements. Any suggestions?

Does Quicktime Pro also edit .mov files on a PC?

Premiere Elements 4 pretty much works with tape-based digital video. That would be video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder. It doesn't handle other formats very well.
If you plan to edit MP4s, you definitely want to upgrade to a more current version of the program. If you can't install a current version of the program, you may need to address issues on your computer (such as an outdated operating system or underpowered hardware configuration).
Short of that, you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple for $29. It will edit MP4s, even on a PC platform.

10.4.7. iMac 20" CoreDuo won't start any more

I did upload 10.4.7 yesterday together with iPhoto, iPod, iTunes (6.0.5.) and some other recent updates (altogether there were five, I cannot recall the last one). At first I did notice some “ticking” inside the iMac (2.0 GB RAM) every now and then, let’s say few minutes apart. That has never been heard before. Then this morning I noticed that iTunes was very slow. I did add few of my cd’s, and when attached the cover photo to the lower left corner the iTunes did update it very slowly, I think it took 1-2 minutes to add a photo to 12-15 songs. Then I did call Apple support (case #653790xx). The call took over an hour since everything I did on my computer was like slow motion. We did use DiskRepair and looked at the Console. When restarting the iMac it took several minutes, and when using safe re-start (shift on after re-start) the OS didn’t recognize my bluetooth keyboard. Then I was given advice to reload 10.4.7 from Apple’s site and install it again. Also I was asked to do Hardware Test (from install DVD). When I did try to re-install 10.4.7 there was an error after 71% uploaded, the installer asked to do that again. Then I did Hardware Test as advised, but there were no errors found (I did extended test with looping on and took several rounds). Next, when I tried to restart iMac from hard drive (Macintosh HD 10.4.7), it stopped repeatedly on Mac OS X window. Now I’m stucked, my iMac won’t start any more (I’m writing this by Windows machine, can you imagine?!)
I don’t know what’s wrong, but I have used Macintosh from 1987 (IIcx) and never, never before I have had these kind of problems. I suggest so far, that you take care when installing 10.4.7 on Intel iMac, I guess there might be a problem. I wonder why there is not email support for these kinds of problems and alert messages…? I’ll leave sailing tomorrow for two weeks and cannot report this by phone.

Only way to get iMac starting again was to re-install 10.4.4 from DVD, and then update it into 10.4.6. For a while it worked perfectly, just as before.
Then I tried to print to CD with my EPSON Stylus Photo 950 from Adobe Photoshop Elements (2.0). It didn't print anything, but printer started flashing all lights. The print job was not performed, so I did remove it from the Printer Utility. After that the iMac started "ticking" again, same noise than before, after 10.4.7 installation. I did re-boot iMac. It never started, it does stuck on gray screen (gray block running clockwise). HW test from DVD didn't find any problems (extended search looping 3 times). But Disk Utility found hard drive to have inaccurate node structure, it could not fix it.
Apple support recommended to use DiskWarrior. However, it does not support (yet) Intel Macs. I haven't got TechTool Pro 4.5.1 anywhere. iMac does start on to FireWire mode (T at boot), but I cannot see the disk from 10.2.8 iMac.
So, obvisously the problem is not 10.4.7. I believe it to be ESPON printer driver compatibility on Mac OSX. This does not suprise me, EPSON printers *****, I shall never purchase one again. However, disk catalog structure should not get messed by one faulty printer driver!

Premiere Elements 7 crashes when I start to edit clips

I have downloaded Premium Elements 7 and installed same. I have taken a small series of 12 clips to try the software, into "new project (all 12 clips).
I then took the clips into the editing mode, but after dragging the 3 clips the programme crashed.
This has happened several times. Each time a menu pops up and says "Adobe has stopped working. A problem has caused the programme to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available. CLOSE."
I have Vista Home Premium, using a 2GB dual core intel with 160 GB harddrive. Can some one tell me what is wrong please

Thanks for the prompt response. I am having major problems. As you suggested I activated quicktime and then updated this. Then my problems got worse as I was unable to find the clips which were originally stored in Adobe photoshop so could not obtain them. I decided to uninstall PREMIUM ELEMENTS and re-download after restarting my PC. Unfortunately it will not install. it aborts part way throughthe installation
Install shows, C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\ then Next, then Install, which I click on.
Part way through this install procedure a menu appears
Menu Error 1311. Source file not found and C:\User\Admin\App Data\Local\Temp\wzde 24\data1.cab. Verify that file exists and that you can access it. Retry and cancel
Checking through the files the last one is wzde 24 but no data1.cab file.
So what else am I not doing or doing wrong.

2) How much free, defragmented space is on your hard drive?

Thank you both for your responses! I watched a video on how to remove the hard drive - special tork(?) screwdriver and too many steps for me to feel confident about doing it myself, so I took the computer to an Apple Store - and thank God, the hard drive appeared undamaged - they are transferring the data to a new Macbook Pro. The loss of data was the scariest part, so I am breathing again!
The laptop was three years old, I was hoping for another year or so before upgrading, but such is life. I appreciate your upfront advice.

Which "disc menu screen" are you talking about?
Are you talking about the installation menu screen that comes on when you first put the installation disc in your computer's disc drive?
What operating system are you working on? If Windows, have you manually gone to Windows Updates, set the option to download Microsoft Updates and downloaded all of the available updates, including the ones that don't download automatically?

PS CC crashed and won't start any more

When I yesterday applied a Nik Filter in PS CC Photoshop crashed and won't start any more. The same with PS CS 5.1 on the same machine (Win8.1). PS CC works on my laptop. What shall I do?
When I try to restart i get the message that PS CC does'nt work and I will be informed when the problem is solved!? What shall I dó?

If Paul's advice doesn't work try this.
Hold down on the sleep button AND the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
BTW ...In order to start up under normal circumstances you only need to hold down on the sleep button for a couple of seconds or so until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

From where did you download Premiere Elements 9 at this late date? What computer operating system is it to be running on?
Do you have the 9.0.1 Update installed?

Are you getting any display card errors?
We have just gone down this type of road with another 9 user, so let us start with what finally seems to have worked for him.
What video card/graphics card does your computer use? Is the driver for that card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of that card? If not, update the card driver. If the driver is up to date already, then delete the BadDrivers.txt file.
For now I will assume that you are working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.

and in the 9.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path shown. After you deleted the BadDrivers.txt and reopened Premiere Elements, the program will generate a new BadDrivers.txt file but now the problem should be gone.
Please review, consider, and then let us know the outcome.

It all depends on the codec the file uses, Karli.
What model of camcorder is this video coming from?
Are you working on a Mac or a PC? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime, per the program requirements? When you started your project, did you select the settings for a DSLR at 720p? This is a vital step since it will activate the components your computer will need to work with many of these types of files.
