Premiere Elements 7.0 Crashing After Period of Stability

Hello
I have been using Premiere Elements 7.0 on my system for some time and after having had it crash about 50% of the time I finally got things to a point where they were working well.  I carefully put a project together, keeping it in small sections and rendering it to high quality video files and then piecing it together in one final, overall project.  I left it for about a month and then went back to it with a fresh mind and began tweeking it bit by bit, shortening some bits, changing some of the music etc., and otherwise greatly improving it.
After doing these steps I went back to tweak it some more and the program became very unstable, essentially crashing after every right-click of the media on the timeline or whenever I pressed stop after starting preview playback.  I thought this could be an issue with my system, perhaps a Windows Update or new driver or something had caused this.  Well, I got so frustrated, because I had put so much effort into this project, that I ordered Sony Vegas Home Studio Platinum 9.0 Pro Pack.  I backed up my media and project and then reinstalled Vista from scratch, adding another hard drive and installing the latest drivers etc.  I reinstalled Premiere Elements 7.0.
I tried to open the project I was working on again and the first time I tried it, with my second drive as a scratch disk, it seemed to run very well.  When I started editing the project a bit more it started crashing again in the same circumstances - when I right clicked any clips on the timeline or after stopping the clip playing after starting playback.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?  By reinstalling my system I have essentially done the equivalent of many troubleshooting steps all at once, and I've cleaned the render cache of Premiere Elements 7.0 and stuff like that.  I'm really trying to keep using Premiere Elements 7.0 and I've mastered the program to an intermediate level by using Steve Grisetti's excellent "Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe Premiere Elements 7" and Paul Ekerts' "Creating Hollywood Style Movies with Adobe Premiere Elements 7" but I am losing all faith in the program, the kind of faith that is necessary when completing long projects.

Sorry I haven't got back immediately, I'm on the other side of the world (Australia) so I'm asleep while you guys are responding (and I assume you guys are asleep now.)
I tried deleting the cache etc and re-rending everything but that didn't work.  I tried altering Playback Properties to Compatible or Normal instead of GPU Accerated and I got excited when it stopped crashing whenever I right click anything on the timeline, but it still crashes when I start playback and then press stop or space bar to stop.  So a little bit of progress.
I'm thinking that maybe it might be the latest Realtek Audio driver that I'm using which is a beta version but I'm not sure that I had it installed prior to reinstalling Vista.  But I will try it later just to see.
As for the format that the sub-clipps that I rendered are in, they are avi files using YUV 422 10bit REC 709 format.  I think its a professional format that is very large in size.  Each clip is 1280x720 because my clip is going to YouTube.  I would probably have not used such a big file size producing codec but it worked perfect for several months which leads me to suspect that it is not the cause of my issues.  The problem I have is that some of the resources I used to produce these sub-clipps have gone because I forgot to back them up, which means that if I want to alter the codec I use for each sub-clip I cannot go back and re-render but rather would have to transcode from the YUV 422 codec to a different one and I don't know of any programs that even recognise YUV 422 10bit other than Premiere Elements.  And it's a lot of extra work just to find out that it might not even help.
I have the final almost complete project as a rendered mp4 file that I can upload to YouTube in its partially completed form if I have to, but I think I could make it 10 times better with just a little extra work so I'm hoping I don't have to do that.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements does not open after installation

    Hello,
I have written before last week. I have bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
I had a trial version of Photoshop Elements 11 and with the code I could access the full version.
However Premiere Elements did not open after installation. I did not had a trial version so I first downloaded the full program. I went through the whole installation process and everything seemed ok, no error messages. But when I tried to open Adobe Premiere Elements after restarting the computer it did not open at all. Nothing happened.
I have de-installed and re-installed the program for a couple of times over and over again but with not result. Also tried to download the trial version first and also this didn't work. I checked my Quicktime and updated to the latest version.
I use a Windows laptop: Asus Intel Core i5-2430M, 2,4 GHz
I hope you can help me out!
    Thanks!
    Inge

Yes I saw it but PSE (refers to Photo Shop Elements??) and I have trouble with Premiere Elements..(so the video program)
    The Photoshop Elements worked.
I am not sure what to do here also the link at your reply "working with your operation system tools" didn't work..(got the "broken link error")
    thanks

  • Premiere Elements 13 - .MOV crash!

When I try to import files I've filmed on my iPod (.MOV) to Premiere Elements 13, it crashes! - no error message. Re-opening Premiere then is impossible unless I restart my PC. Is this a file type issue? Is there a better way to import my iPod clips other than copying & pasting from the DCIM folder? Help appreciated! Thanks,

    Tom
    Thanks for the reply.
    The keys here
    a. You have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer.
    https://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
This applies to you even if you are running Windows 8.1 64 bit.
    b. You want to be running Premiere Elements from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.
See Control Panel/User Accounts and Family Safety/User Accounts and Manage other Accounts which
should show you the accounts.....Look for Name/Local Account/Administrator for the account that you are using.
That applies to QuickTime as well as Premiere Elements.
    c. Import your files to a hard drive save location. Then, import them into the Premiere Elements Expert
workspace using Premiere Elements' Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag
the file to the Timeline. (There is a drag and drop way, but let us first make sure we can do it as I have described.)
I do not think that the following has anything to do with this current matter. All that this is telling me is when you open a file
with the .mov file extension it is set to open to the Video app of your computer, provided the Video app supports the .mov file
    that you have.
Also, my .MOVs are set to open as default in the new Windows 8 app 'Video' - do you know if this is right?
Please let me know if you are OK with the above. If not, please do not hesitate to ask for clarification.
    Thank you.

  • All but 1 theme per group disappeared after Premiere Elements 4.0 crashed on start of burn to DVD

I have a project that is approximately 1 hour in length.  This is the first project I am attempting to burn.  I assigned a theme to the project and then proceeded to burn a DVD.  Before the burn could actually start, PE crashed with a "blue screen" dump.  I rebooted in Windows safe mode, then rebooted back into normal Windows mode.  When I started PE and opened the project, nearly all of the themes were missing!  It appears that only one theme per group remained.
What would have removed or hid the themes?  I would have also expected all or none of the themes, rather than leaving just one per group.  I was using a template in the "General" group, but the one that remained after the crash is not the one I had assigned to my project.
Does a reinstall restore the templates?   If so, can I reinstall PE 4.0 from my CD without erasing, distroying, or losing the current projects I have created?
Thanks in advance for your comments!

    Hunt,
Before diving into the details of the items in the article, I did a few of the basic things:
    stopped my anti-virus product (doh!)
stopped the temperature monitor software (doh!)
    did a quick disk cleanup
turned off all trivial stuff in msconfig
I rebooted the system and started Premiere Elements.  I had not attempted to reload the templates at that point, so I proceeded to "Burn to DVD".  I selected the minimal quality and started the burn.  That worked!   Next I exited PE and restarted it and then was able to successfully "Burn to DVD"  using the max setting for quality. As expected, it took a while to finish, but it also completed successfully!  The resulting DVD looks and sounds great, so the rendering and burn phases seem to be working fine on my hardware.
I noticed on the CD that there is an option to load the themes, so I am going to try loading that today.  I'll post more comments after I get the themes reloaded in case there are other steps involved in restoring those within the program.

  • Premiere Elements freezing and closing after adding a Menu.

I have been making movies with Premiere Elements for awhile now.  Ever since I started, I have had the same problem.  It would hang, and eventually close on me.  I then got the new version, PE8 a while back.  Unfortunately, I still had the same problem.
I made an entire video having trouble with the freezing problem.  But I put up with it and saved every few minutes.  Now I get to the end and made the Menu pages.  When I almost finished it, it closes on me.  I keep trying to go back into it, with absolutely NO success!  I have been dealing with this for a long time, so I am well aware of needing to turning off the internet and virus software with the realtime scanning.  I also have been manually closing everything I can in my startup menu.
Every so often I restart to see if that helps, but no help.  So, I have been looking at the conversations here for a while recently and have tried what I think is everything.  I made sure I had the updated version of Elements 8.  I updated everything, all the important and optional updates.  Made sure my graphics card was up to date.  I don't use QuickTime, but I updated it anyway.  I ran Disc Cleanup and Defrag.  I did the MsConfig disabling bonjour, apple mobile, ITunes, Reader.  I had it boot without GUI.  I even disabled the Windows Indexing feature.
Even after all that, every time I open PE8, I gives me the warning message that it is running low on memory!  I don't know what else to do.  Please help.
Now I know you all want to know what the details of my system are, so here it is.
    Dell XPS 420
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 2
Intel Core Quad CPU Q9450 2.66 GHz
    4.00 GB Ram
    32 bit OS
    600GB Hard Drive
    207 Free disc space
My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series with the driver version 8.850.0.0  Dated 4/19/2011.
I believe that is all that you need.  If I forgot anything, please let me know.
    Thanks for your help,  Sharon

You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for video editing

A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Premiere Elements 8 and crashes

Question:  I have tried all the Adobe recommended fixes due to my NVidia graphics card but my project still regularly crashes and now as soon as it starts loading the elements, it crashes with no error message.
    System:  Windows 7 Professional (x64) (build 7600)

Single ATA Hard Drive     WDC WEd002FAEX-00Z3A0
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Display Adapter with newest 64 bit driver 266.58
Assets:   About 300 still images imported from an album in Photoshop elements shot with a Cannon Power Shot a570 IS
Stills are at 3072 x 2304 or vice version, RGB, 180 resolution
27 short video clips from a Kodak Zi6 converted to avi files by AVS Video Converter
Project:  I believe the presets are for NTSC DV although I can't get in to check; they've been this way because I usually shoot video with my Sony VX 2100.
Workflow:  I imported the stills in chronological order preceding the first video.  Then more stills in chronological order before the next relevant video.  I am using the timeline.  After each import I save, add transitions (mostly the cross dissolve), save, and render.  Sometimes after saving rendered files, the system crashes and when I get back in the files haven't been rendered.
Some vertical stills it accepts just fine.  For some others, I have to rotate them.
What I have done:  I read all the suggestions from Adobe and the forums for dealing with the NVIDIA card.  This is what I have done in the approximate order I have done it:
         1. Installed the 8.0.1 update
         2. Updted the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS driver to the newest 64 bit driver 266.58.  I tried to do this update a couple of times.  The sytem kept telling me the 260 driver was current but the NVIDIA website said to use the 266.58.  I finally got it installed but a little later in the process.
         3. I could not disable the Hardware Acceleration as the NVIDIA card would not let me...the option was grayed out.
         4. I set both the global and the Premiere Elements threaded optimination to off.
         5. I turned off "Enable GPU playback" at one time when I could still get into the program.
         6. I recreated the adobe premiere elments plugincache.
         7. I uninstalled the Nvidia 3D Stereo driver...it was called Stereo not steroscopic.  In the NVIDIA control panel I did not install the Stereoscopic functions.
         8.  I was still crashing frequently. I was getting the low memory message, so I searched the forums and found directions to change the size of the paging file by clicking Start/accessories/run as administrator/enter at the command prompt BCDEDIT/SET INCREASEUSERVA ####.  I started with 3072 then gradually increased as it wasn't helping up to 8000.
         9. I think I finally upgraded the driver to the 266.58 at this point.
        10.  This morning I found directions on how to check the size of the paging file by accessing the control panel.  It showed my paging file was only 4096 (I guess the former advice didn't work) and it changed it to a virtual memory minimum of 8000 and a maximum of 10000.
Now I can't get into the program at all.  It says it has loaded 100%, then there is a 100 second pause.  It starts loading the media and crashes.
I love Adobe products and was a former Adobe Premiere 6.5 user. Premiere Elements as described is perfect for me as a video hobbyist.  Please help!  I would welcome any more suggestions that I can try.  Do you think I should just find a replacement for the NVidia board?  If so, what would you recommend.  I tend to do long projects.  I just can't live with all these crashes.
    Sincerely,
    Tracy Matern
    [email protected]

    Tracy,
Great job with the details - very well done!
This should be a "poster-child" for how to state details, and a problem.
Now, first thing that I see, regarding the crashes are the size of your still images. Overly-large stills require a ton of resources, and can crash the program, and/or the computer. Scaling of the stills to near the Frame Size of the Project will help greatly, and actually improve the quality of the output. This ARTICLE will give you tips.
Next, with a 64-bit OS, like Win7-64, 4GB of RAM is about the minimum for just the OS. Though PrE cannot use more than the 3.5GB of RAM, as it is still a 32-bit app., but the OS and other programs, certainly can. I would bump that up, if at all possible. Your OS and any other programs, will love you for it.
Off the top of my head, it sounds like you have got the video sub-system well handled, and would look beyond it (for now), to other factors.
You might want to see this ARTICLE on setting up a computer for video-editing sessions, and especially the link to Black Viper's Win7 Tune Up Tips Web site.
Also, check that you have the latest version of Apple's QT Player.
If necessary, there are more troubleshooting tips, and I'll be glad to share those, if necessary.
Thanks for the great post, and good luck,
    Hunt

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Speakers and Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)
    750GB Integrated Hard Disk Drive
    3TB External Hard Disk Drive
While editing a 30:44 minute avi video file with 3 wav audio source files in Premiere Elements 11 the application crashes, no system errors or system crashes.
Windows reports that Premiere Elements 11 crashes and closes the program, no error message.
The crash occurs around the five minute marker of the video, I do not want to go past the 5 minute marker because I want to make sure my video is well throughout.
The video file is 28.8GB and both the video file and the Premiere Project File are located in the same 3TB External Hard Disk Drive.
The only programs running while I edit are Steam, Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus+, Dxtory, and Premiere Elements 11.
I have read over some of the other forums regarding premiere crashing and MOST of the ones that were relevent to my inquiry are from 2008-10 and involve premiere 8 on Windows Vista. This is prevelent on both Adobe and Google.
I have also ran a disk cleanup, disk defrag, system restart, and update checks, all updates are up to date, I check every month.

I only have the single 30:44 duration video.
I also downloaded G-Spot, from a suggestion made by Bill Hunt in an older post on the forum to find out the specific codecs that were involved in the video I am editing and what I received back was:
Under Video, the codec was listed as 'xtor'.
Under Audio, the codec was listed as 'PCM Audio'
The only video file in the edit is the 30:44 duration video file.
I used a recording software that I purchased called Dxtory, the program allows me to record certain programs on my computer's screen, namely video games.
The video's format is an AVI file, and the specific video codec is 'xtor' and the specific audio codec is 'PCM Audio', according to G-spot.
The video's resolution is 1280x720, the resolution is what I set my games to, if available, and its the resolution I have Dxtory setup to record.
Under Edit/Project Settings/General the project settings are set to 1080i, 1920x1080 resolution, on default.
I cannot change the settings for some reason, they are unavailable for me to customize, probably cause its the default until I add a video file.
However, when I open the 30:44 video project, the Edit/Project Settings/General settings are set to Sony XD Cam EX 720p, 1280x720. I do see a yellow line under the time line in the project, the line is not exactly above the video clips. I am also in Expert View.
My time line has changed increments, last night when I posted my first post, the time table was in increments of 22 seconds, and now its in increments of 15 seconds, the yellow line is below these increments, but only in certain parts, for my project the yellow line appears in the time table in the first 1 minutes 51 second and later at 4 minute 36 second increment to 4 minute 47 second increment. I do not have an edit on the first 1:51, but on the 4:36-4:47 I do have a text edit that sits on video 2, that was the last edit I did on the project, the application shortly crashes after 4:47, the crash is also occuring with and without the text edit. I'm going to continue to check settings and I will use Windows Event Viewer to find if I missed anything.
    Thank you for your asssistance.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 8 Hangs Crashes Errors - Vista 32

    Hi,
First I'll admit i'm no pro (obviously why im using elements), so if im doing something amatuerish it's because i'm not a professional.
I remember using adobe premiere elements 3 a while ago, and it ran fine.
I just bought Premiere Elements 8 and it's crashed more than any program i've ever used. Ive been to many forums to address the issues however there seems to be no solution in site (especially given that their support seems to be down at the moment).
The first "weird" issue is that I get a little red X that appears at the lower left portion of the screen and when I click on it it says that my preformance will be poor because my graphics card isn't working properly.  This is not true as my Dual Nvidia 9800GT cards are working fine.  (I have sli turned off for the record because of a conflict with Cubase).  So I don't know what this means.  But I did notice something odd in my windows video display options I have 1 montor enabled but I see 3 grayed out disabled monitors even thought I only have 1 plugged in.  (I was using an additional one but it's unplugged currently)
My most common issue is with hanging that won't end.  This usually happens when I apply a change to a file and trim it, or move it almost always in the timeline. The progrom just closes all together when I edit still images from time to time especially when I overlap it with a video.
When the hangs happen my Cpu is at 12%ish, and I have ram available.  Although Premiere uses a truckload!
    Here are my project specs:
The preset project mode that I chose was HD (hard drive) video, widescreen 48k because the files are from my hard drive so I didn't know what to choose
Working with .mov files which were improperly formated from the source with regards to aspect and given to me so i had to stretch them out (could this be an issue?)
Using the standard Premiere sound driver, although I do have a focurite interface but i only use that for Cubase.
Backround rendering is on (seems to speed things up with regards to workflow)
    Autoanalyzer is off
    Computer specs:
    Dell XPS 630i
    Intel Core2duo 3.16 Ghz
4 Gigs of ram (although only 2.8 showing because of partition issues anyone have a solution?)
    Windows Vista 32 home premium
Dual SLI Nvidia 9800GT graphics cards - Both rated at 512 memory (latest drivers, physex, and 3D have been uninstalled threaded optimization turned off)
    Mcaffe security system
If anyone can figure anything out from what I wrote please let me know!  thanks

Here's some basics (some of which you've already covered). Definitely disable McAfee realtime scanning while using PRE.:
    Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.8 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
    Run Disk Cleanup.
    Run Defragmenter.
Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
Use the GSpot Codec Information Utility to analyse the file and post screen image.
Post back here with the necessary information described here: Got a Problem? How to Get Started
As you've JUST bought PRE8 contact Adobe and get the complimentary upgrade to PRE9. Upgrade eligibility after new product announcement

The only thing that has changed with my system since Premiere Elements was working fine is that I installed Photoshop Elements 12.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    kooolhandluke
Do you have installation files or an installation disc for Premiere Elements 12?
If you have not already, I would suggest the uninstall, ccleaner (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts), and then the reinstall. (If the program stays open long enough, Sign Out of the program in a new project before you start the uninstall process in the Control Panel area.
I was going to start by checking out your "Fault Module ntdll.dll." I found this.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/ntdlldll.htm
But you have and have had so many "Fault Module" entries I am not sure where to start.
That is what drove me to the Sign Out/uninstall/ccleaner/reinstall scheme.
I have started exploring the source of your video since that seems to trigger the extremes of the issues. Have you installed the software that is said to come with the camera
    Panasonic HD Writer AE 3.0,
    Drivers & Utilities
Can you maintain any sort of good Premiere Elements workflows if you use video from other than this camera?
    More later.

  • Premiere Elements 8.0 crashes

I just downloaded the 30 days trial version of Premiere Elements 8.0.
The program starts with the welcome screen.
After pressing the button 'new project', the program loads a lot of stuff and crashes every time while trying
    to load "sytrus vsti.dll".
Sytrus is a plugin for FL Studio, but i've never installed FL studio or sytrus on my computer
Any ideas, how to start premiere?
    THANKS!

Sytrus is a plugin for FL Studio, but i've never installed FL studio or sytrus on my computer
I'd do a system search for the Sytrus VST. Many times these VST's are common amongst several other programs. A good example is Sample Tank2.dll, which I have from Magix Music Studio. It is also in several other audio programs (not by Magix), that have instrument VST's.
Before just deleting it, I'd look to see which program is installing it, and decide how you wish to proceed. There are three things that happen with VST's:
1.) PrE loads and uses them
2.) PrE loads, but cannot use them (in PrPro there is a one-time message to that effect)
3.) PrE crashes trying to load them
Both PrE and PrPro will try to load and use all VST's that it finds.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I agree 100% with Steve on the free space. The normally recommended min. is 30GB of defragmented free space. I like much more, as the working files that an NLE creates are big, big, big.

  • Why does Premiere Elements 9 keep crashing during basic editing?

Recently purchased Premiere Elements 9 to do some reasonably simple editing combining videos and photographs. After about 2mins to 10mins of using the software it unexpectedly crashes for no apparent reason. I have only ever had 2 or 3 layers in the video and often when I go to view a preview (but not exclusive to this) it shuts down. Sometimes its when I am manipulating text or trying to add effects. I'm using a brand new iMac and the only other programmes I am running concurrently are Safari and Photoshop although I have tried it with no other programmes running and it still happens. I've added details below of the processor and graphics card I am running to see if there are clues there. I get an error report but its a bit large to paste here although if anyone wants to take a look it would be much appreciated!
      Model Identifier: iMac11,2
      Processor Name: Intel Core i3
      Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
      L3 Cache: 4 MB
      Memory: 4 GB
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 5670
      Type: GPU
      Bus: PCIe
      PCIe Lane Width: x16
      VRAM (Total): 512 MB
      Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
      Device ID: 0x68c0
      Revision ID: 0x0000
      ROM Revision: 113-B9850H-133
      EFI Driver Version: 01.00.416
Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the clarification. Titles should not be an issue at all. You are correct, they are an intrensic part of PrE, and should cause no issues.
I think that Neale's link will be useful. A lot of that material should be X-platform, but you will see some that is Windows-specific, especially as PrE was not X-platform, until PrE 9, and some of the suggestions, while still applicable, were when the program was only on the PC. Also, I gathered up some of it, and have to admit that I am a Mac-illiterate.
Something is definitely wrong with your PrE 9.0, with your system, or with its setup. Steve Grisetti, our MOD here, uses PrE 9.0 on an iMac, that is not a powerhouse computer, and has had few issues. I'd like to hear his comments, as he is X-platform, and many of us are only PC-guys. It's not that we do not want to help, as we do, it's just that many of us do not know the ins-and-outs that might be specific to the Mac.
Now, aspects of performance, such as the nVidia, or ATI video drivers, updating QT and updating PrE are not platform-specific, and are places to look first.
Also, when PrE crashes, do you get any error messages? I can tell you where to look for OS errors and warnings on a PC, but am lost on the Mac. There has to be some process logging function in OSX, like Event Viewer in Windows. It basically logs every call to every service, program, or process, and monitors the response. When things do not go, as they should, a warning, or error message is written to Event Viewer. Some of those are just cryptic code, and meaningless to even a Windows engineer, but some will have real, useful data, and the best will have links to say the MS Web site, or maybe to a driver mfgr. with tips on what went wrong, and best of all, what to do about it. Unfortunately, I cannot even begin to tell you where to look on a Mac.
One other potential concern would be the amount of free space on your HDD's. PrE creates very large working files, and needs a lot of real estate, just to work. How much free space do you have on each of your HDD?
Sorry to just be thinking out loud here, and wish that I had some wonderful, and useful insight.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 9 keeps crashing

Does anyone know how to repair this?  It either opens with a blank screen; I can't load anything because the timeline is not there.  Or it will immediately crash after selecting a project.

From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•You MUST use an account with Administrator Privileges to run Premiere Elements
•(Doing Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 [says Encore and also for "All" versions of Premiere] will sometimes fix "odd" errors)
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 12 with the 12.0.1 update).
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.9.4"---not just "Mac"
•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•How many and what speed are your hard drive(s)... ie 5400rpm or 7200rpm or?
    And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?
•What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
•What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
•Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

  • Premiere Elements 9 window disappears after loading project

    Hello all,
I've been having issues with Premiere Elements (9) lately. I have read other threads similar to my problem and followed some of the instructions (deleting the Pref file, for example).
Whenever I open a specific project (that has worked before until recently), the loading progess bar goes from 0-100 and then it stays there. After that, the entire program disappears. It doesn't crash (as it's still in the task bar), but when I click on PrE9, nothing comes up. When I mouse-over the icon on the task bar, it's just the window buttons (minimize, expand, exit).
The reason I started this thread is because none of the problems I found were really similar to mine.
Any help would be much appreciated.
(Also, please pardon me if this thread is in the wrong place.)
    Thanks!

    Unitedmoviemaker
Have you looked at any possible involvement of the antivirus program in the way of recent updates for it? Recent Windows Updates? Can we assumed that you have not added, subtracted any programs that would coincide with the onset of the issue?
Have you checked to make sure that your video card is up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
Recently, with Premiere Elements 10 and NVIDIA video card, answers have come from rolling back the driver.
I guess you tried the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file deletion. But, did you try deleting the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists?
Do you have the Premiere Elements 9 installation disc for installations files in case a deactivation, uninstall, run through of ccleaner, reinstall is indicated?
But, let me backup for a moment. Is this issue confined to one previously created project or to all your Premiere Elements projects either new or old?
Let us start here and then move forward according to your answers.
    Thanks.

Add On...Usual...confirm that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed, you are running the program as the 9.0.1 Update, and you are running the program Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.

  • Premiere Elements hangs or crashes when importing .avi files

When making videos, I use .jpg and .avi files, since that's what my digital camera produces. Lately, if I start a new project, I can load the .jpg's, but when I attempt to load a .avi, the program (Premiere Elements 1, Windows XP, sp3) hangs. If I try to reopen an old project (all files are still there in the original locations), it looks like the program is starting to load the files, then I get an error message to the effect that "a serious error has occurred", and the program terminates. These are the same files from the same camera that have always loaded with no problem before.
There have been no hardware changes. The only software changes have been the update to XP (from sp2 to sp3), and periodic (unspecified) automatic software updates. Is Premiere Elements not compatible with sp3, or is something else going on? I need a clue as to where to look.

This is aimed a Premiere Pro, but may help
First, work through all of the steps here http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting
If your problem isn't fixed after you follow all of the steps, report back with the DETAILS asked for in the questions at the end of that link
Pay special attention to Question 1 - the Codec used in the file
You say "avi from a digital camera" which usually means it is not DV AVI Type 2 file, but instead is some other compressed type of file hiding in an AVI wrapper
My GUESS would be that some update and messed with your codec entries in the Registry, and the codec you need is no longer properly registered

  • Premiere Elements 9 project crashes frequently

I am using PE9 on only my second project.  It is PAL HDV 1080i 25fps with footage captured from a Canon HV30. I am running on Windows 7.
My project is currently 50 minutes long and has a large number of stills. I am finding it crashes frequently, especially when I try to add a new title above a still. I own and have read the Muvipix Guide to PS9 and PE9 and am aware about not making images too large.  In his book Steve states that for HD video slideshows the optimal photo size is 2200x1235 - mine are in fact 2048x1536.  Should I be making them smaller?  If I resize them to 1024x768  would it help?  I am at this stage going to be producing a DVD and will lose the high def anyway, but later down the track (if I get a Blu-Ray burner) I may want to produce a Blu-Ray disc - with the smaller image size wouldn't I lose some quality?
I am really frustrated with the constant crashing and the need to save my project after every small change.  I previously used Ulead Media Studio Pro which has been unsupported for nearly 5 years, and was a nightmare with crashing.  At first I was really happy with PE9 but now I'm beginning to think there is no video editor that runs smoothly.

Thanks to Neale and Bill for the quick replies.  I downloaded the latest audio driver and it seeme
d to take longer today before PE gave me a warning about low memory, and then continues without crash

I haven't looked at the videos re Case of the Unexplained but will do after Easter (going away).
I am thinking of splitting my project into 4 parts, rendering each part separately (in HD to produce an m2t file.  Then another project (let's call it FINAL) would import the 4 m2t files to the timeline.  This raises a couple of new questions:
    1.  Will I get any loss of quality if I output from FINAL in (a) m2t format for a HD web file, or (b) to a DVD
    2. If I edit the m2t files on the timeline in FINAL will that affect final output quality
    3. although I can output the work area only from my original project (45 minutes), I would prefer to have 4 short projects.  Is there any way of selecting all clips in the work area, or in a certain part of the timeline, without having to do it manually.  In other words how can I quickly split my full project into 4 11 minute projects?
