Premiere Elements 7 editing GoPro HD mp4 files

Hello all,
I recently had to restore my computer and I reinstalled Windows 7 and Adobe Photshop Elements 7 an Premiere Elements 7.   Before I did the restore, I was able to import my mp4 files straight from my GoPro HD without having to convert them or anything.   After the restore, I get an error saying it doesn't recognize the file or the required codec is not installed..  For the life of me I cannot remember installing a codec to get PE7 to import the files earlier (not sayng I didn't just can't remember).   I have tried installed various codec packs with no luck so far.
Would any of you have a good suggestion?
Thanks.

>codec packs
OUCH!!!
Too bad you did not post here, first... many people have reported problems with codec packs... sometimes to the point they had to wipe their hard drives (after UN-registering everything) to install OS and software fresh... hopefully, you won't be one of those people
Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

  • Premiere Elements 9 - editing in low-res then rendering in HD

    Hi all,
Just started using Adobe Premiere Elements 9, editing together a 3 minute music video (so not an epic!). Half way throughand having all sorts of problems as the footage is running slowly or not running at all.
Just bought a brand new laptop with i5 core processor, 4 G RAM and 7,200 rpm, so don't think hardware is the problem.
    Question 1.
How can I edit in a low res version and then render in HD (is this called editing by proxy?)? A friend with Premiere Pro said there should be a very simple button that does this. It would seem a basic requirement of any video-editing software. But I can't find how to do it and the only internet search have brought up very confusing and long-winded processes.
    Question 2.
Having trouble rendering. I tried rendering as a WMV and the image was very pixilated even though it looks fine on the editing screen. File size was also huge and computer struggled to render it. Also tried FLV, which didn't work at all.
Would appreciate help as I've put hours into the editing process already.
    Many thanks,
    Christina

    >don't think hardware is the problem.
If you want to open and edit a single photoshop picture file... you are fine
For video (which is, in effect, 30 picture files per second, plus sound) you are not fine at all
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for video editing

A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used this eSata Dock... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Will Premiere Elements 9 edit and save changes to avchd losslessly?

    Hi,
I want to buy a new premiere elements to replace my old one (vrsn 3), can I upgrade it still or is it too old?
Also, will the new premiere elements 9 edit and save changes to avchd files from Panasonic and Canon without losing any quality?
I came across 'provides native support for avchd'; what does it mean? Does it mean that I can edit and save avchd files with out losing quality?

Premiere Elements 13 has stopped importing MOV. files. Quicktime is installed and working.

    Nowconfused
I tried to get background information on the video from your camera but all I could find so far is that the camera is probably recording
1080p (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 or 30 progressive frames per second. What are you (manually) or the program (automatically) setting as the project
preset to match the properties of your video source. See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio even if the fields look grayed out.
How are you importing the files into the Premiere Elements 13 project - with the Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from a computer
hard drive location or are you making a USB connection between the camera and computer/Premiere Elements 13 and using Add Media/Video ..../Video Importer? Could you possibly have changed the way you are importing the files into a project?
Would it be possible for you to send a small sample of one of these .mov files that will no longer import? Maybe in a Dropbox link that you include in a reply?
Do you have any of the older files still available - the ones that did import at one time? If so, will they still import into a project or do they now not import?
    More later.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • Should I use premiere elements for editing 24p DSLR footage?

Have been shooting with a t4i in 24p and am doing some small business videos - I need some advice on whether I should use premiere elements to edit this footage.  Also need to be able drawing lines, add arrows and animate them etc.  Is this beyond premiere?  Have been using elements for about 5 years on and off, maybe time to step it up?

I do not see why not.
It is getting late where I am so I will leave you with some things to consider -
This is what I have found ouy about 24p mentions in Premiere Elements that seem to have no function...

As for ability to draw lines, add arrows, and animate them, etc. See program's Titler and its Text Styles Animations Shape sections.
The Premiere Elements Titler offers more opportunities than just text titles. But, sometimes you may want to create a graphic in Photoshop Elements and import it into Premiere Elements. Keep in mind that Premiere Pro is not a photo editor either. Some things that I have done in Premiere Elements in the way of animation....

  • Premiere Elements 10 no sound for MP4 or MOV files

How can I get the premiere elements 10 to recognize sound in MOV and MP4 files?  Shows no sound track and yet there is one.

    1cooper1
Your question is being answer in your other thread as I remember. Some has asked for further information so that they can help you.
The usual information that is require to troubleshoot you issue includes:
    a. Do you have QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 10? Have you said what computer operating system is involved?
    b. Are you running Premiere Elements 10 as Run As Administrator and/or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    c. Where are these .mov and .mp4 files coming from? The brand/model and your camera settings would be very helpful, especially if you cannot supply the properties of these files. That .mov or .mp4 are file extension that wrap the video and audio compression, so we need to know the video and audio compression as well as the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio. You can get all that from a MediaInfo properties read out
    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
    d. What are you setting as the project preset for your project?
    e. Is there no sound just for these two video types .mov and .mp4 or is there no sound within Premiere Elements for anything?
    f. Have you gone into the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware and click on the ASIO button to check out the ASIO setting to make sure of what is enabled?
Please review the above. We will be watching for your details.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 9 no longer supports video files from Nokia Lumia 920 (it used to do)!

I've edited many videos from the same phone (.mp4) with the same software before (last time was 8 months ago). Now the software claims that the "file format is not supported or the required codec is not installed". How can it be? I haven't uninstalled or installed any codecs. The phone is the same. I can still open the old projects on Premiere Elements. I need to get this fixed so I can edit my videos!

    nome2014
In the case that you are presenting, are you importing new Nokia video into a new project? You say that you can open old projects in Premiere Elements. Do the old projects contain Nokia video from the same camera? If so, open one of the old projects and try to import the new Nokia video into that old project. Imports or not?
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9 running on? Are you running the program as the 9.0.1 Update? If not, please do so either
    a. from Help Menu/Update in the opened project
    or
    b. from the 9.0.1 Update downloaded from Adobe online (Premiere Elements closed during download and installation).
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4929
I have just downloaded a sample from your Nokia Lumia 920 (1920 x 1080 @ 30 frames per second* AVCHD.mp4) and had no problems importing it into a new Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project set with the project preset of NTSC DSLR 1080p DSLR 1080p30.
    *Potential issues....
the Nokia video comes with a variable frame rate, in my case, 4.201 to 30.090, showing a value of 29.272. Premiere Elements (any version) is known to have issue with cell phone video recorded with a variable frame rate. The problem can manifest itself as audio out of sync or just not being able to import the video at all. Remedy...take the video into HandBrake and convert the variable to a constant frame rate.
    http://handbrake.fr/
Do you need a step by step how to on that? If so, we can supply one.
From what I have read, the Nokia can record with AVCHD video compression as well as MPEG-4. Both have a .mp4 file extension. Is what you used before the same video codec as you are using now? Please check the camera settings.
Please review and consider. You can post a sample of your problem video here as a Dropbox link, and I will road test it in my Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 that is working with a sample download from your brand/model cell phone.
We will be watching for your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 8 - Edited video will not open

Hoping I can get some assistance from the gurus here!  I have recently completed editing a video and uploaded to the video to the Adobe online sharing site.  Problem is I cannot access it from the online site, nor will it load/display when I attempt to open from Premiere Elements.  Trying not to panic; any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Just to make sure that I am following you, you have completed the editing on a Project in PrE 8, and then did a Share to your account on Adobe.Com. For some reason, that file is not displaying on your Adobe.Com account, or at least you cannot get to it Is that correct?
Back in the original Project, can you do another Export/Share to another output AV file?
As I have never used the personal Adobe.Com site, I cannot be of any help to you there, but others know the processes and mechanics, and will likely be able to assist.

This is what I would like you to do to troubleshoot this issue....
Make sure that the issue exists with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled. Then if that did not help...
Uninstall Premiere Elements 9 via the usual Control Panel route.
Do a free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts)
    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Reinstall the program with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
    Keep the program closed.
Download and install the 9.0.1 Update (Premiere Elements 9 remains closed while this is going on.)
Adobe - Premiere Elements : For Windows : Premiere Elements 9.0.1 update
Reopen Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1, and open a new project in the Timeline workspace. So far so good or not? Hopefully, OK, but if not OK....
Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file, and, if necessary, the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    9.0
and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
If is not going to help the present situation (that is just trying to install), but your 6 GB installed RAM is not a factor here since that Premiere Elements 9 or 9.0.1 is a 32 bit application running in a 32 or 64 bit application and as such has all the limitations of 32 bit system - maximum supported installed RAM = 4 GB of which typically 3.2 to 3.0 GB of that are available.
Please review and consider. Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Freezes on "Generating Peak File"

Help!  This seems to be a common problem with posts all over the web going back to PE3.  I can't believe Adobe hasn't fixed this!
I have spent days on this, trying every solution I've found in posts in Adobe Forums and elsewhere on the Net.  None seem to work for me.
Specifics:  I have PE9 running on an HP desktop with 2T of disk, 9G of RAM, so resources are not an issue.  I have one hour (about 10G) of video imported to PE through Firewire from my Panasonic GS-500.
Almost every time PE generates a Peak file, it freezes at 99% and then I'm stuck.  Have to force PE to close.
I have tried importing the file into Windows Movie Maker and then generaing a new file.  Adobe won't import it.
Tried recapturing the video.  Same problem.
I love the flexibility I get with PE.  But I'm just about to toss it in utter frustration.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks

As you know, miniDV is far and away the easiest format in the world to edit on a computer. I've never heard of Premiere Elements having problems working with it. But I trust you that there are people who are.
That said, can you give us more specs on your machine? What operating system? Have you manually gone to the update site and ensured you have every available update?
How much free, clean defragmented space on each of your drives? How fast a processor? How much RAM?
Have you cleaned and defragged your hard drive(s) recently? The only thing I've known to cause this are related to hardware -- in particular a lack of hard drive space. Though you've got a 2 terrabyte C drive? I can't imagine there could be enough clutter and tmp files fragging up a drive that size, but it's certainly possible. Especially if it's more than a couple of years old.

  • Can Premiere Elements NOT re-encode a video file

I want to take 200 HD camcorder files and put them on a Blu-ray disc with a basic menu structure.
I know Premiere Elements can do the menu structure.  My question: Is it able to use the video files without re-encoding them?  (The source files are 1280x720, H.264/AVC, 29.97fps.)  I can't test this using the trial version because it watermarks the video.
If PE can't do it, am I overlooking some simple way of doing Blu-ray menus using the Creative Suite products?  I have used Premiere Pro and Encore to author BDs, but that involved setting up every element of the menu structure by hand.

  • Premiere has suddenly stopped importing avi/mp4 files

I am using Premiere Pro CS3 on a mac.
With no explanation, Premiere has decided it can't recognize files that it recognized fine a few weeks ago. I have projects that I've already finished and when I reopen them it says the media is offline. When I attempt to import .avi files I get either a "codec missing" message or an "unsupported compression in file" while an .mp4 gets me "unsupported format or damaged file"
while I have "fixed" the mp4 issue by changing the file extension to .mpg, I still cannot import any .avi files, which didn't use to be a problem. Also I didn't have to change the file extension on .mp4 files before, either.
I am extremely frustrated and have no idea why nothing works except using another program to turn the .avi files into DV format, which for some insane reason makes a 20 minute video 3.95 GB, which makes me think somehow I'm doing that wrong too.

    >That seems ridiculous
No, that would be trying to edit a delivery format
You are an artist - You paint on a canvas
It is a FLAT canvas where you may see and paint everything
That is similar to Premiere with a DV AVI type 2 file... it may see and paint (edit) everything
    1-Now, read here to see
Why NOT to try and edit an MPEG
Your canvas is now "fan folded" like the expanding part of an accordian You may now only see the edges of the folds - You may NOT see inside the folds You are now trying to paint a full picture based only on being able to see those edges
That is similar to Premiere with any variety of SD (StandardDef) file compressed into an MPEG (HD "HiDef" is different, with it's own set of issues and problems)
Do not be fooled by movie industry advertising into thinking that "DVD Quality Video" is suitable for EDITING... it is not... a DVD is for PLAYBACK only!

  • In Premiere Elements 13 can I link project files?

Can .prml file be compiled into a movie?

    Koollkid
I am assuming that there is a typing error in your introductory details when you wrote
Can .prml file be compiled into a movie?
Are you referring to the Premiere Elements project file which has a .prel file extension. If not, what kind of file is
a .prml file? Where is it coming from?
Generalization for now, pending your clarification on what you seek and assuming that .prml = .prel.....
    1. When you import source files into a project, the way out is via export - Premiere Elements 13 Publish+Share/ and then
the choices that you see which can offer you burn to disc as well as export to file opportunities.
    2. You cannot import a project file into another project file. If you want to put the content of project 1 into project 2, you
    have at least two choices
    a. Export the Timeline content from project 1 to file that is compatible with the settings of project 2, and then import that
    file into project 2
    b. If you are working on a Windows computer, use ClipMate in conjunction with Premiere Elements for a copy/paste
insert between projects (I have not tried this yet in version 13; it has worked in several earlier versions).
So, basically this all resolves to
    a. What is your source media?
    b. What are your requirements for exporting the Timeline content for you and other to see?
We will be watching for your follow up with clarification.
    Thank you.

I've trying to use some free stuff from http://www.detonationfilms.com/Stock_Directory.html and mix it with my video. You may download example of Pre-Keyed Explosions using direct link: http://www.detfilmsshockwave.com/DVExplosion01.zip or any other stuff from this site...
...but my Adobe Premiere Elements 12 with installed the latest updates doesn't import these MOV Files with codec PNG Image
In fact, Apple does not offer ProRes components for QuickTime on Windows, but I don't know do this problem interact with my trouble?
IMHO, it's best  to look at the crash logs for QT32Server! I've found executable QT32Server on my PC in next folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\CAHeadless\32\Adobe QT32 Server.exe, but can't found any import logs on my Windows 8.1 including hidden folders. I have trying to check the windows events log for errors %windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s but it contains no necessary items.
I have trying to re-install version 6.5.2 of Apple QuickTime, but without success. May be I must try to install any other older version, i.e. 7.5.5 ?
I think perhaps such behavior of Adobe Premiere Elements 12 is in design?
May be I'd try third party free video converter, like SUPER e.t.c. to convert MOV container to AVI?
Please help me to find a way to fix this problem.

What is this "codec PNG image" that is contained/wrapped by the .mov format? What are the video and audio properties of this video...frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio, et al.
It sounds like you have Premiere Elements 12 is running on some version of Windows with QuickTime (latest version) installed on the same computer as Premiere Elements. Great. Requirement for QuickTime met.
Where is this PNG.mov coming from? And what type of .avi were you thinking to convert to?
Premiere Elements 12 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime does offer an export with a PNG video codec with the .mov file extension. I am in the process of exporting my Timeline to that type of file and then determining if I can import that back into Premiere Elements 12 project.
When your png.mov will not install into Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit, what is the specific message that you are getting from the program at that time.
More shortly after my export of the png.mov is finished. Any minute now.

Add On....The png.mov produced by Premiere Elements 12 Window 7 64 bit could be imported into a Premiere Elements 12 project. I am now going to my laptop which has Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit to do the same thing and see what happens there. Back soon.

  • Can Premiere Elements 10 edit Photos?

I just have a quick question. Can Photoshop Premiere Elements 10 be used for photo editing, or is it just for video editing?
Message title was edited by: Brett N

    Welcome to the forum.
The image editing capabilities of PrElements are extremely limited, and mainly revolve around some Scaling of Still Images, a bit of Vector Art placement, in Titler, very, very light compositing, and then some Effects, that can be applied to Still Images in the Timeline.
For any real image editing, one will want an image editing program, like PS, or PSE.
