Premiere Elements 7 freezes, haults, blows up, etc.

I have recently purchased premiere elements 7.0 and I am not happy with it. I have a Dell XPS system with 2GB Ram, and over 200GB of free space on my hard drive. I am creating a movie with JPG's from my Canon DSLR that have been downsized them to 1024 x 680 before putting them in. My movies have been downloaded from a Sony Handycam HD camera to the wmv format before bringing them into Premiere Elements. I render my pics and movies everytime I put around 10 into the project and then do a save. I have tried to create a 3 1/2 hour movie on DL DVD's but this program seems to blow up all the time and eventually won't even load the project. I have exported small projects to avi format and reloaded them, which seems to work but after converting to wmv then exporting to avi and then bringing them back into premiere elements, the movies seem blurry. I decided to cut my project in half and I still have memory problems. Premiere says I am running low on memory and better save the project. When I check how much memory I have left, I have 760MB left. I have even closed everything on the task bar. I continue to get memory problems when I don't have memory problems, or the program elements.exe blows up with a "software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x78138aa0). My most recent problem is that I was finaly able to put together a movie about 1 1/2 hours, rendered it, put my theme into it and saved it. Now I am trying to burn, with everything shut down in the system, just elements running and I can watch the memory start at about 1.5GB and it goes to about 650MB and the burn stops, and the program disappears from my screen. I have tried everything adobe says to do on their KB site but nothing seems to help. Anyone have a clue.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I have found a way to make PE7 work with a system like mine. Read below:
I'm trying to put a movie together using JPG's and WMV movies. I have about 450 JPG's that I made all 720 width by using PS7, I let PS7 pick the hight. The movies came from my Sony Handycam HD camera and I used the Sony software to make them into wmv movies. I put them on my hard drive. Why did I use wmv - for some reason, when I used the Sony software and downloaded the movies to MPG, the sound did not come with them. As I said before, PE7 could not handle all my JPG's and movies (total of about 4 hours worth). I was hoping to put a 4 hr movie on a dual layer DVD. Forget that. I couldn't even put a 2 hr movie together. PE7 sometimes just went away on the screen, or I received a C++ error, or memory getting low when I still had 750MB's of memory left and 100GB left on my hard drive and just either froze or disappeared from my screen. I couldn't even move the movie bar too much without PE7 crashing. I found that as I worked in PE7, trying to put a 2 hr movie together, l would have to load about 10 JPG's, do a save, then render them, do a save, bring in about 5 movies, do a save, render those. I kept doing this for days, but as I got about 1 hr worth of movie, PE7 would crash all the time. I finally got 1 hr and 50 minutes all saved and rendered with all my markers, etc. Ready to go right. Wrong. When I tried to burn, the encoding right before the burn would blow up all the time and I couldn't burn the DVD. Days and days of trying to produce a movie and PE7 would just blow up everytime.
My system:
Laptop - Not the best for PE7
Dell XPS M1730 Dual core, 2GB Ram, 200 GB HD with 120GB left to work with PE7, 512 Geforce video card. PE7 says this is enough - wrong
OS -XP with SP3
Everything turned off on the task bar.
About 1600 MB left of RAM to work with
This system exceeds PE7 requirements but it is not enough.
Here is a way to create a 2hr or 4hr movie with the system I have:
Continue to load 5-10 jpgs, save them, render them, load 5-10 short movies, save the project, render the project and save the project. Don't go to long without rendering and saving your project. Continue until you get to about 20-30 minutes worth of movie in your project. Do NOT put any markers in because they will be lost when you do continue to do what I did to create a 4 hr movie. You will do them later. Now go to File and export to a Movie. This will put it in AVI format. Once it is saved, start another new project. Start it where you left off and do the same thing again and again until you have all your AVI movies. I ended up with 5 avi movies. Now start your last new project. Get Media (grab each avi file you saved). Put them in order. Now you can put in your markers, title, etc. and shouldn't have memory problems. You're ready to burn. It worked. I finally have a 4 hr movie through PE7 with the system I have above. I forgot to say, I also run a program called FreeRam XP Pro (free shareware). Before starting my burn, I would use FreeRam XP Pro to free up memory. Many times after a render and save, I would use FreeRam XP Pro to free up memory.
I wish Adobe would let everyone know how PE7 really works. You would think by the ads, that my system would work properly. I hate to see how PE7 will work doing HD type movies from my camcorder. I will have to experiment with that one later. Right now, I am tired of working with PE7 over the last 2 weeks.
Again, thanks everyone for helping out here. I hope this helps some others that are frustrated with PE7.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Freezes

    Hi There,
We are trying Premiere Elements 12 (Expert Mode).
It seems very nice but, in various places it just freezes, no specific area in Elements, so could be importing a clip or just adding an effect...
The 1st PC we tried it on is Windows 7 x64 - fully Windows patched, (also with Manufacturers patches, BIOS etc etc) with lots of software installed, ESET AV, lots of RAM and Processor power, checked clean of any Malware
I have also tried the same new download on a new PC (VM) with just Win 7 (x64) Ultimate, fully patched and no other software installed.
    Same problem.
I have read in this form questions about Quicktime versions etc. On the main host Quicktime is installed, in the VM not.
My thinking (why I tried a VM) is that the VM is as clean a possible it just has Premiere Elements 12 and Photoshop Elements 12, to try and negate conflicts with other software.
Local user is Administrator, have also tried with Run As Admin..
Anything else we can try peeps ?
    Cheers,
    LM

Thanks for the follow up with all the details...
Continuing in the real computer environment Windows 7 64 bit.....
    Preliminary
From what you wrote, you have GoPro Black 1280 x 720 @ 50 progressive frames per second video and you or the project have set
PAL/AVCHD/AVCHD 1080p50 as the project preset. So far so good.
When you import one of these GoPro Black clips into this project, do you see no colored line or an orange line over the Timeline
content? Assuming no colored line for the moment...
    a. right click the Timeline file, select Time Stretch, and then, in the Time Stretch dialog, change the Speed % to 99. Click OK. Now render the Timeline content which should be displaying with an orange line over its content. After this Timeline rendering is completed (color of line goes from orange to green), is the editing performance same or improved? (The rationale behind this was to force Timeline rendering rather than to apply any Time Stretch Speed% changes to the file.
If the above does not result in improved performance associated with the GoPro Black clip editing, delete the 720p50 from the project and import
    a. 1080p25 from the GoPro Black
    and next
    b. jpg photos
For each of the above, do you encounter the same Timeline freezing episodes as with the GoPro Black 720p50?
In what you have written, the freezing is independent of file size and file duration. Is that correct? Does that observation have limits?
Depending on your results, would you consider posting a sample of your GoPro Black 720p50 via a Dropbox link in a reply in your thread?
As a cross check, I was be glad for the opportunity to work with it in my computer environment of Windows 7 64 bit/Windows 8.1 64 bit on a variety of Premiere Elements versions including 12/12.1.
Please review, consider, and then let us know the outcome. We will go into computer optimization considerations next.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 11 freezing

Windows 7.  Adobe Premiere Elements 11 (with Photoshop El 11, -PS works!).
My Premiere Elements 11 won’t work anymore.
After deleting some of my works from the hard drive, the program tells me with opening, that the Display driver is incompatible with the program (see clip), and has to be updated.
But the Display driver is still- and have been working pretty well all the time, and is the latest version for the card!
When click OK, the program opens, -but freeze, and nothing happens and nothing works, and I have to cut the computer the hard way.
    I have done two things:
–gone one step back in my system formation, -Pemiere still not working
–uninstall premiere 11 and reinstall the program, -still the same announcement and freezing.
    Poul

    Poul,
    First, some questions please:
What OS version are you running PrE 11 on?
Is that Intel GPU (display adapter) the only one on your system?
Is the computer a laptop from a computer mfgr., such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.?
Is that the latest video driver from Intel, or from the computer mfgr.? Do not trust Windows, or any utility to tell you if you have the latest - check on the Intel, or computer mfgr's. Web site.
Have you deleted the BadDrivers.TXT file - if you do not have Show Hidden & System Files set, you will need to do that, to see the BadDrivers.TXT file?

  • Premiere elements 13 freezing up

I have recently upgraded from elements 10 to 13 together with premiere package. I am editing a video and each time I add a title to start of scenes etc the program freezes up and cannot do a thing with it and it has to close down.
I have laid out my video on timeline and have added transitions ok, but now I am adding titles the problem occurs (very frustrating)
I am running windows 7 with all various update requirements plus  8 gb ram I have plenty of editing power available so what is happening here?
This is not a good start to your latest version of this program, is this a fault with premiere or what.

From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180
•You MUST use an account with Administrator Privileges to run Premiere Elements
•(Doing Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 [says Encore and also for "All" versions of Premiere] will sometimes fix "odd" errors)
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 12 with the 12.1 update)
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.9.4"---not just "Mac"
•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•How many and what speed are your hard drive(s)... ie 5400rpm or 7200rpm or?
    And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have an orange line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?
•What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
•What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
•Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
•For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
•-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself
    •nVidia Driver Downloads http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

  • Rendered video in Premiere Elements 13 freezes...

Hello all, this is my first Premiere Elements software since 1.0 lol.  Anyway, before I render a video it plays nice and smooth.  After I render it, the video playback freezes while the audio continues to play.  How do I fix this?  I have an i7-410U 2 Ghz CPU, an Nvidia GeForce 840M 2 GB video card, 8 GB of memory, 900 GB of free space on my HDD, and Windows 8.1.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the follow up replies.
Your Edit Menu/Project Settings/General readings suggest that you or the project have not set the correct project preset for the project. If the Canon is the major source of your Timeline content, then the project should not be 1080i (the project's default). It should be
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR [email protected]
You are going to have to go to a new project to correct that situation. You cannot change the project preset in 13/13.1 once the project preset has been established.
If the project (automatically) is not giving you the correct project preset, then you need to set it yourself (manually) before you import the source media.
    File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings
In Change Settings, set for the project preset mentioned above. OK out of there.
In the New Project dialog that appears, rename the project and make sure there is a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". OK out of there.
Then in the workspace, import your source media with Add Media/
Another factor is the custom made intro that I created in Aurora3d Title Animation. What are its properties and how do they compare with those of the Canon's 1080p29.97. If you remove the Title Animation from the Timeline, do the problems disappear even with the DSLR project preset pointed to?
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 3 Freezes on startup in Windows 7

I just loaded Premiere Elements 3 on a laptop with Windows 7 and it freezes on startup. I can't find any reference to drivers for Windows 7. I've used PE3 satisfactorily with Windows XP and want to continue to use it. Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve upgrading to a later version or switching to another video editing program? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled.

Thanks for all three responses. Long story short: I've made progress to where Premiere Elements 7 now freezes *after* startup in Windows 7.
Neale: It's Windows Home Premium on a Sony VGN-NW270F with an Intel Core2 Duo T6600 2.2 GHz processor, with 4GB of memory. I hope this additional information is helpful in diagnosing my problems with PE3 version 3.02 and Windows 7.
Steve: I found I already had PE3 Version 3.02, so that was not the problem. However, I did uninstall and re-install, with no better results. I then poked around in the Windows 7 Help files and stumbled across the misnamed "Compatibility Manager" (it's really an "Incompatibility Manager"). When I set PE3 to run under XP Service Pack 2, PE3 finally started up. I then found I could load video files and edit them. But, after working on this for a few days, I tried to use the Transitions and Effects Button. That invariably sends PE3 off to La La Land, which only a power off will fix (I haven't had to power off so many times since I used Windows 95 and the early DOS systems, which doesn't seem like progress.)  So far, I haven't found a solution to this new freeze problem. Any suggestions as to what might make PE3 work properly?
You say that PE3 is a relatively old version of the program. Well, not that old -- "old" programs dated 2007 should work on operating systems released only two years later. However, I haven't upgraded from PE3 because it worked really well on my XP machine and subsequent releases of PE appear to be buggy. From what I've read in the Forum here, I wouldn't upgrade to PE8 because even that version doesn't seem to work well with Windows 7. I've wasted enough time on this already.
John: Unfortunately, I just have Windows 7 Home Premium, the plain vanilla OS.  So far, I am thoroughly unimpressed with Windows 7. New operating systems are supposed to bring advantages, not be incapable of running programs that ran under previous operating systems.
    Thanks,
    George

  • Premiere Elements 7 freeze/restart

    hi
we just set up a new system:
    mb: gigabyte ex58-ds4
    cpu: intel core i7-920
    ram: 4 gigs corsair
    gpu: sapphire hd 4870, 512mb gddr5
hd: 2x750 samsung on intel on-board raid 0
    os: vista 64-bit business
there's newest driver for each piece of hardware, including chipset drivers, sata-raid drivers and a bios update for the mainboard. we are using a sony HDR-SR11E and recorded some full HD content. adobe photoshop elements 7 works fine. premiere elements works fine, until all the footage is copied to the local hd on the desktop.
the system totally freezes only seconds after starting to work. the error can't be reproduced exactly, no matter what i do (drag'n'drop clips to the scene view, dragging in-out-indicators or rendering), the crashes keep coming up. the only similarity is that it only crashes when something's happening, while the program is idle it doesn't crash.
by totally freezing i mean there's no kind of response, even the hd noise stops (if there was any). sometimes the system simply resets itself.
anyone else with the same kind of problems? obviously, the program can't be used the way it works now.
    thx elfi

well, i feel like since it's been almost 2 months it is time for a status report. here's what i did:
    - i made contact with the adobe support
    - i endured the 23 step program of http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404998
    - i toiled myself through the hassle of trying different video formats
    - i saw a bright light as .avi footage from my old DV-cam worked, and then got slapped in the face by simple jpegs freezing the program
    - i anxiously waited for replies
    - i sent several log-files to "them-who-must-not-be-named"
    - i was told to use the one tool called "GSpot" to detect and eliminate codec conflicts
    - i received no satisfaction by using GSpot
    - i tried the application on a different 32 bit xp system without problems
    - i was told, that now that the problem only occurs on 64 bit vista, i won't receive any help from the mighty support anymore, because it isn't certified for 64 bit vista
    - i said: "the package claims that thee program supports vista, this includes 64 bit vista! why is there no technical support for me now?"
    - they replied: "it is NOT true that vista 64 bit is not supported! PE7 just isn't CERTIFIED for 64 bit systems, thus us can give no more support as long as thou uses a 64 bit system!"
    - i took the one product and threw it into the fires of mount doom
at least i'm about to. personally i think this is a total ripoff, now i have to downgrade to a 32 bit OS, which will require another 100 bucks for a new windows xp, or i switch to another tool, which requires relearning a new tool. and what if it is some incompatibility between the software and some hardware and not 64 bit related? i should pay microsoft to get support from adobe?
i'm very well aware that there can be problems with new hardware in combination with new software, but that they basically cut the support off and force me to deal with the problem by reinvesting into a downgrade is an outrage.
besides, there are quite a lot of posts on the internet from a lot of people having similar problems to mine, and yet adobe doesn't seem to release any kind of fix. from what i've heard they didn't do it for any of the older versions either.
this will definitely be my last "beta-test" for adobe, just because you are suddenly releasing programs for reasonable prices doesn't mean that they shouldn't be finished.

  • DVD burned in Premiere Elements 4 freezes on playback

I have a Dell with Windows Vista Home Premium and I use Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 for video editing.  Recently, I've encounterd a problem with my burned DVDs freezing during playback, especially near menu markers, on a variety of stand alone DVD players.
I've been searching various forums to find a solution.  I was told it was a problem with cheap media so I've tried various name brands on the DVDs with no cure.  I was told to reduce the burn speed on the DVD recorder, but  I have no idea how to change the burn speed on the DVD recorder  I was also told to burn the project to a DVD folder and then import it into the software thant came with the DVD recorder.  I burned the PE4 project to a DVD folder but can't figure out how to open it in Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 in order to try a different burning software.
So how do I change burn speed on the PC's DVD recorder?  How do I open the PE4 project in Roxio?  Can anyone recommend another solution?

Don't discount any of the posted suggestions, but I work with VOB type files often, and here's what I found works best (for me any way).
When and if at all possible, always convert VOB type files to DV-AVI, then import this into PE for editing.
First you need to combine all the VOB's off of one DVD disc into one large VOB file.
This will eliminate the OOS (out-of-sync) issues you are seeing between audio and video.
    View this link for details:
    http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2469
Once combined, then use Prism to convert the single VOB into the DV-AVI format.
Use this FAQ link for Prism or Win Movie Maker convert options:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
I have found large VOB and MPG files to be a challenge to work with within PE, but once converted via the method described, PE is very stabile and the editing experience goes up an order of magnatude.
Convert the VOB's, trust me on this one...

  • Reinstall of Premiere Elements 11 Freezes

I had both Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 working on my Windows 8 machine.  I uninstalled Premiere for troubleshooting reasons.  I am trying to reinstall from disc.  The disc spins a lot, I select the Premiere button and then the installation process freezes.    wal1.

    Hello ATR,
I checked that the Adobe Premiere Elements was not installed.  I verified on the on the uninstall screen in control panel.  I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and 10 installed. When I uninstalled the Adobe Premier Elements 11 I asked it to keep its settings when prompted.
I downloaded the ccleaner.  (backing up the registry settings) last night.
This am, I tried to connect to the internet to check email and such.  My cisco Linksys E420 wifi router stopped talking to my cable providers Motorola Surfboard modem.  Only the top four green lights were on and the yellow blinking PC/activity light failed to light.   Cisco AnyConnect says it can't do anything because there is no internet connection.  I connected  my laptop via Ethernet cable to the cable modem, bypassing the router to get web and email connectivity.
My priority now is to restore function with my wifi service to the household.
The reason that I was troubleshooting and uninstalled the Adobe Premiere Elements 11 was that I have Pixela ImageMixer SE 3 that came bundled with my Canon Vixia HF20 and was trying to restore functionality to the Pixela video library and video editor.  I like the way that it renames sequential .mts files to the format (folder=YYYYMMDD and contained within is the YYYYMMDDTTTTSS.mts) format,  it makes it easier to find files manually through File Explorer.  The Pixela SW was locking up after reinstalling it and gave a window  that said updating files then froze.  The SW is light and simple and provided an alternative to the heavier Premiere.  Pixela Support suggested a SW conflict with another CODEC and suggested uninstalling the Premiere Elements to see if that worked and then reinstalling the Premier Elements from disc. No guarantees that it would work correctly with Windows 8 though.  Premiere Elements then failed to reinstall.
I may be on and off the air until the wifi is working properly.
How do I revert to the old registry settings.  Or, am I better off trying to get the CiscoConnect going by its smart key or other settings.

    What to do??

If you are running Premiere Elements 4 on a Windows 7 computer -- particularly if it is Windows 7 64-bit -- that could be at the root of your problem. The program was designed to run on Windows XP or Vista and may not be completely stable on Windows 7 64 bit.
You also don't say what model of camcorder your video is coming from, but that could be significant. Unless your camcorder is  a true AVCHD camcorder, Premiere Elements 4 is not designed to work with this video.
Even in version 9, Premiere Elements is not able to work with a number of pocket camcorders (like the Kodak), with the exception of the Flip cam, for which the program has specifically been loaded with the 3ivx codec.
Also, have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's instructions?
All of these things may be contributing to your problems.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 9 Freezing Issue

In Adobe Premiere Elements 9, every time I click, the program freezes for at least 30 seconds and sometimes closes.  This happens every time I try to do anything and is very frustrating.
    Personal Computer Specs:
    Quad Core 2.8 GHz CPU
    4 GB RAM
    1 GB GPU
1TB Hard Drive (Plenty of Room Remains)

    Hi Schaef,
I'll do my best to try to explain...
The problem that was causing my issue was that I had chosen the wrong Project Settings.  I tried just playing around with them until the program sped up.
    Here's how to do it:
When you first open Premiere 9 you will see the regular start-up window.  When you click on 'New Project' you will wait a second then see this:
When you see this window, select the name and save destination, then click on 'Change Settings...'
Try playing around with the presets on the left.  If possible, find the option that fits your video footage's particulars.  If that's not available, find one that most closely fits them.
Once you've found a suitable option, try saving the settings and opening the new project.  If you don't notice any difference, than you should start all over to find a different option.  Repeat this until the program has significantly sped up (as it did for me).
If none of this helps, I apologize, my knowledge with the program is not very profound.
Let me know how you make out though!

  • Premiere Elements 10 Freezing while editing

I apologize in advance if this has been brought up before, but I have searched for a solution with no results. Since installing Premiere Elements 10 this week, i have expirenced many freezes with the program that has forced me to exit out of the program. most common occurance is when adding a new clip to time line. after adding, the program stops responding, even if left alone for over an hour. freezing occationally happens when loading projects as well. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I have a project due and I really need Premiere to work so any help would be a major help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled today, and I have the latest version of quicktime.

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

  • Premiere Elements 9 Freezes on "Generating Peak File"

Help!  This seems to be a common problem with posts all over the web going back to PE3.  I can't believe Adobe hasn't fixed this!
I have spent days on this, trying every solution I've found in posts in Adobe Forums and elsewhere on the Net.  None seem to work for me.
Specifics:  I have PE9 running on an HP desktop with 2T of disk, 9G of RAM, so resources are not an issue.  I have one hour (about 10G) of video imported to PE through Firewire from my Panasonic GS-500.
Almost every time PE generates a Peak file, it freezes at 99% and then I'm stuck.  Have to force PE to close.
I have tried importing the file into Windows Movie Maker and then generaing a new file.  Adobe won't import it.
Tried recapturing the video.  Same problem.
I love the flexibility I get with PE.  But I'm just about to toss it in utter frustration.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks

As you know, miniDV is far and away the easiest format in the world to edit on a computer. I've never heard of Premiere Elements having problems working with it. But I trust you that there are people who are.
That said, can you give us more specs on your machine? What operating system? Have you manually gone to the update site and ensured you have every available update?
How much free, clean defragmented space on each of your drives? How fast a processor? How much RAM?
Have you cleaned and defragged your hard drive(s) recently? The only thing I've known to cause this are related to hardware -- in particular a lack of hard drive space. Though you've got a 2 terrabyte C drive? I can't imagine there could be enough clutter and tmp files fragging up a drive that size, but it's certainly possible. Especially if it's more than a couple of years old.

  • Premiere Elements 11 Freezes on Windows 8

I just installed Premiere 11 on my Windows 8 machine. It is an I7 with 6 Gigs, two ATI Radion in Crossfire mode, 2 terrabyte drive with 1.8 Terrabytes available.
When I launch Premiere it starts to load and then when it gets to "ExporterAVI.PRM" it freezes and stops responding.

Well,  I found a very random answer and it worked!
I searched through a couple hundred posts on "Problems with ExporterAVI.prm"  a solution written (sorry forgot to write down the URL of the page) for Premiere Elements 8.   The authour of the solution suggested:
    1) Perform a fresh install
    2) Locate the file ExporterAVI.prm
    3) Move it from the current directory or delete it (sending it to the recycle bin)
    4) Run Premiere (after it runs) shut it down.
    5) Copy the file back or restore it from the recycle bin
    6) Done
I am not sure what moving the file ONE TIME does but this appears to work on Premiere Elements 11 as well as 8, now it starts up just fine with ExporterAVI.prm back in its original spot.
Thanks to John T. Smith and Jeff A. Wright for your assistance/help.
