Premiere Elements 8 & native support for Samsung AVCHD MP4 video?

I'm excited about the release of version 8 of PSE and PE, but my big unanswered question is stated in the subject line: will Premiere Elements 8 natively support the MP4 files produced by my Samsung HMX-H104 ?
I've been entirely unsuccessful with this file format and PE7.
I've read throught the product descriptions and FAQ and Adobe makes reference to cameras from flash-drive camcorders, but doesn't offer any specifics. Native support looks like a crapshoot. Anybody with some insight to contribute?

Thanks for pointing that out -- yeah, I see my error. I just did a little bit of web searching and it's not AVCHD. This seems to pretty well summarize it:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Samsung-SC-HMX10-Camcorder-Review-34476/Format.htm
"The Samsung ... outputs video in the H.264/MPEG-4 format (the file extension is .MP4). This highly-compressed video codec should not be confused with the competing AVCHD format. AVCHD is a type of H.264/MPEG-4 codec, but the version Samsung employs is different, with both benefits and drawbacks.
"...the MPEG-4 video ... is adequate. ... this type of MPEG-4 is space efficient and less processor-intensive to edit than AVCHD."
...and...
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Samsung-HMX-H105-First-Impressions-Camcorder-Review-3 6130/Compression-amp-Media.htm
"The Samsung HMX-H105 records video in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, the same as models from the previous years. MPEG-4 has clearly been adopted as the format of choice for HD camcorders, split into two camps. Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and most recently JVC, all use AVCHD, which is a subset of AVC/H.264. AVCHD experienced some serious stumbling blocks in its first few years, as existing hardware and software choked on the heavy data loads. It has, however, gotten much better in the past year. AVC/H.264 is also data-heavy, at least compared to old standard definition camcorders, but the format is easier to read. QuickTime can work perfectly with the files, and has the benefit of being free and dual-platform."
I know this aspect has all been covered to death on these forums in the past, with respect to PE7 (which chokes on any Samsung .MP4 file I throw at it). While I've bookmarked the workaround posted by you in this thread (thanks!), I was hoping to avoid the extra steps à la native compatability with PE8.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 native support for Canon 5D/7D

So now that the newest version of Premiere Pro will offer native support for HDSLR like the Canon 5D and 7D, does this mean that editing will be much faster??  Meaning, is there no reason now to export to an intermediate codec like Cineform for faster editing because CS5 will be able to edit the h.264 files without lag?  I was just curious as this will make up my decision of upgrading from CS4 to CS5.

Through history, Adobe has promised a lot of things that have:
    - Caused many to experience that it's not so, and therefor a lot of screaming/complaints. Most of which (screaming/complaints) has been because people are doing something that is not correct, or installed stuff that screws things up, and so on.
    - Caused many people to get great benefits from the new features, and they (many people) have computers that they keep clean and follow needed specifications.
    - Sometimes things just don't work, or stop to work (Clip Notes in CS3).
The funny thing is that I have CS3 and edit the video footage from my 7D natively without any problems whatsoever. OK, maybe not quite realtime playback without rendering the timeline, but pretty close. My PC is quite ordinary, Q6600 CPU, 4GB RAM, and 8800GT w/1GB RAM, no over-clocking or special treatments done.
The little extra funny thing is that if I apply MB Looks to my 7D footage, it gets to be more or less realtime playback, probably because Looks forces the GPU to be used.
    Bottom line:
Whatever Adobe promises, you'll have to make sure you have the clean gear for it if you want it to work. Except for that, some just are lucky.

  • Premiere elements 13 can support Sony XAVC s Video format?

    Hi,
Cannot find from Premiere elements 13  specs if the Sony XAVC s video format is supported.  Appreicate  answer from the experts.
    Thanks

    skimak
You did not mention the resolution of your XAVC-S video.
There are project presets and export presets that can be used for XAVC-S video, but....
    1. The project presets available under the AVCHD category (see those with QFHD prefix) are for the resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
For NTSC, there are 3 choices with this resolution - @ 23.976 progressive frames per second, @ 29.97 progressive
frames per second, and 59.94 progressive frames per second. For PAL, there are only 2 choices with this resolution -
25 progressive frames per second and 50 progressive frames per second.
    2. When you get to Publish+Share/Computer/XAVC-S, the default settings will have the resolution 3840 x 2160 pixels.
But, you can customize the preset selected under the Advanced Button/Video Tab. This is the type of information that you
will be looking at there in the way of export choices defaults (example is for the NTSC setup).
    MP4 - H.264 3840 x 2160 23.976 30 Mbps
    H.264
    3840 x 2160
    23.976

    29.97
AAC, 160 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo
If your XAVC-S is representative of H.264.mp4, your file should be supported by Premiere Elements 13. But, if you have not purchased the program yet,
I would suggest that you evaluate the free 30 day tryout from Adobe before purchase to determine first hand the compatibility of the program with your computer environment and project goals.

  • With Premiere elements 11, when Publish/Share (saving) a finished video, selecting H.264  .mov file type, what are the recommended Codec and Aspect settings for a crisp video and a small file size?

With Premiere Elements 11, when Publish/Share (saving) a finished video, selecting H.264  .mov file type, what are the recommended Aspect and Codec settings , for a crisp video with a small file size?

    Gary Krouse
We will customize a very detailed reply, but
    (a) What are the properties of your source media?
    (b) What did you or the program set as the project preset to match the properties of the source media?
    (c) What specific requirements do you have for this H.264.mov export file?
File size can be a compromise between bitrate, file size, and quality.
    Thanks.

  • Email profile support for Samsung Android (KNOX) devices in integrated environment of SCCM 2012 R2 and Microsoft Intune

    Hi,
I could see that lot of TechNet articles are being updated recently with the information on Samsung Knox.
Tried to check the email profile configurations in the SCCM console, could not find Android platform in the supported platforms.
I could see this option available when I login to the admin portal of Intune. Can any one confirm if the extension for enabling email profile support for Samsung Kiosk devices id released or planned to be released.
    Regards

  • Squiggly 0.5 now available with native support for TLF TextFlow objects!

I am happy to announce the release of Squiggly 0.5 on Adobe Labs!
The two new enhancements to this version of Squiggly are:
    1. Native support for TLF TextFlow objects
Now you can add spell checking to native ActionScript applications without any dependency on Flex
    2. Modularization of code for greater customizability
One of the cool things about Squiggly was the SpellUI class, which gave you a single line integration of spell checking to your Flex apps.  With this release of Squiggly, we have exposed some of the sub-classes that make up SpellUI, which will allow you to further customize Squiggly's behavior.  It is now much easier to write your own Squiggly UI or control how the spelling engine behaves.
Please let us know how this suites your needs, and what direction you would like to see us take this technology.  Now that we have completed some critical refactoring work in the underlying technology, our next focus will be in adding support for additional languages, such as German and French.
    Happy Spell Checking!
    - Bruce, Adobe

    HI,
I need to add Squiggly to my TLF 2 editor.
Could you please tell me where I can find some samples or guidelines on how to add Squiggly 0.5 with TLF TextFlow.
    Thanks

Premiere elements 12 is only for personal use or can be used by companies?

    mendes2011
This is not Adobe, rather user to user.
Premiere Elements is applicable to personal use or company use.
The program and its required QuickTime need to be run with Administrative permissions which typically involved running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and sometimes also with Run As Administrator applied.
Volume licensing, your company security demands, and your company network matters should be directed to Adobe Sales and the Adobe Volume licensing groups.

  • Premiere Elements 4 audio won't play on mp4 files, codecs missing/unavailable on .mov files

I dowlnloaded Premiere Elements 4, and when I import mp4 files, the video plays but the audio will not. I've also tried to import .mov files, and an error message pops up that says "Codec missing or unavailable." I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, but that didn't change anything. The files will play back on the video camera, but I"m having trouble with them on my computer. The audio on the mp4 files plays in Quicktime, but not the video, and vice versa when I import them into Elements. Any suggestions?

Does Quicktime Pro also edit .mov files on a PC?

Premiere Elements 4 pretty much works with tape-based digital video. That would be video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder. It doesn't handle other formats very well.
If you plan to edit MP4s, you definitely want to upgrade to a more current version of the program. If you can't install a current version of the program, you may need to address issues on your computer (such as an outdated operating system or underpowered hardware configuration).
Short of that, you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple for $29. It will edit MP4s, even on a PC platform.

  • Window 7 has native support for AVCHD after the update today

"21. Improved playback support for video content from digital camcorders and cameras
Customers loved the increased range of formats natively supported by the Windows 7 Beta, but noticed areas where they wanted broader support. For example, one was unable to seek to a specific spot in the video in Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center for AVCHD content that was imported from a digital camcorder. Weve addressed this. Also, while the support for video from some digital cameras worked great, we also got feedback about supporting a broader set of devices out of the box. Weve since added support for Windows Media Player to natively support the .MOV files used to capture video for many common digital cameras. "
    http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/archive/2009/02/26/some-changes-since-beta.aspx

Windows media player 11 can play AVCHD very well on windows vista already. And the .MOV native support actually worries me. If that happens, would apple still be making quicktime for windows? will quicktime pro still be on windows? because as far as i know there was no more windows media player on the mac as soon as flip4mac(well, it was made by microsoft..) came out.

  • Adobe 9 Premiere Elements "file not supported or codec not installed"?

I am trying the Adobe Premiere Elements 9 trial version to determine if I should upgrade from Premiere Elements 7.  I was able to perform a "get media" on an AVI file and was able to create a DVD (including menus and chapters) that I can view in my DVD player in PE7.
I decided to create the same DVD project using PE9 so I could compare both programs.  When I perform a "get media" on the same AVI file in PE9, I receive the following message: :This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."  I'm not sure why I was able to successfully process the AVI file in PE7 but not in PE9.
The AVI file characteristics are Video: 640(w)x480(h), data rate: 1329kbps, bitrate: 1448kbps, frame rate: 29 frames/second; Audio: bit rate: 118kbps, channels: 2 (stereo), sample rate: 48 kHz.
Anyone have any ideas or suggesstions?  Thanks!

    Chris,
There are probably 2000 possible CODEC's, with all the variations and tweaks, that can be placed in an AVI wrapper. Recently, some camera mfgrs. have begun wrapping H.264 material, tweaked from the norm, inside of AVI's. Why? I have no clue, but those cause all sort of issues with NLE programs - yet it is being done. To a lesser degree, the same can be said for MOV, WMV and even MPEG/MP4 wrappers. Knowing the file's format is meaningless, especially with the above cited case of H.264 inside of an AVI.
The great free utilities, G-Spot, or MediaInfo, will tell you pretty much all that you need to know about the file(s).
Premiere Elements, and also PrPro, are designed to work well with myriad file types, and specs., but certainly not all. PrE handles some consumer file types, better than its "big brother," but PrPro handles many professional file types, that PrE cannot touch.
I have CyberLink's PowerDirector (older version), and Magix MovieEdit Pro (also older), as each handles some specific file types and specs., better than either my PrE, or PrPro. Along wil those, basically used as converters, I have a great conversion program, DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, and will often take "odd" material into it, to be batch converted to something that PrE, or PrPro loves, like DV-AVI Type II's, for SD material.
The world of Video is very involved, and one needs to grasp the concept of CODEC's very early on, as they are the building blocks of Video files (and Audio files too). Each quarter, there are probably a dozen new ones, or variations on older ones, utilized by camera mfgrs. For a bit of background on CODEC's, see this ARTICLE. [Could be linked from the earlier article?]
Good luck, and let us know what is inside that AVI wrapper. Someone will know how best to handle it.

  • When do we get native support for MKV?

I love Quicktime, and I mean it when I say that I am currently stuck with VLC. When can we expect MKV support for QT?
VLC is a nice player, but it just lacks the simplicity and style of QT. Too many bells and whistles, I just want to run a movie file and thats it. And I have always been a big fan of QT. Before Prerian was the answer, but they have packed their bags and gone, so that optioin won't help me either.
I wish Apple would be faster with implementing native support to new file-types as the emerge.

When can we expect MKV support for QT?
I suspect never from Apple or as soon as you install Perian support for the file container and the QT 7 player together with whatever codec component support that may be required for whatever particular forms of compressed data you may be using. You can, of course, request file type support be added as an enhancement in the product feedback form but likely it won't happen because then you would probably want support for all possible compression format combinations the file could possibly ever support which is the same problem AVI file containers have and Apple is, of course, trying to modernize QT in line with compression formats the support mobile (iPod, iPhone, iPasd, and TV) devices.
Before Prerian was the answer, but they have packed their bags and gone, so that optioin won't help me either.
Still works for me under Mountain Lion (although there is no telling how long this will last). The main problem is then maintaining support for file content itself. E.g., my latest problem was learning that some of my MKV files contain WVC1 (Microsoft VC1) video and coherent DTS audio which, even after I found could be handled by the Flip4Mac codecs drop too many frames for proper playback (typical data rates are 150% that of AVCHD content and are interlaced rather than progressive), display an Windows icon when not played in a BD player, and at 29.97 fps are not always correctly supported by even the latest 3D DB compatible commercial players. (I.e., I suspect these are the types of issues Apple is trying to avoid.)
I wish Apple would be faster with implementing native support to new file-types as the emerge.
Hardly a new file container since the project is already a decade old. (I.e., MKV was supposed to be a modern, completely open source, universal file container that would likely be the successor to the containers like AVI.)

  • Is Premiere Elements 8 working correctly for you?

Sorry, to beat an old horse but I do not want to end a discussion that has not been resolved.
I would like to keep this open as I think knowing who is having problems and on what type of video would be quite helpful to Adobe support who is looking to help me, they said they would be watching the forums and my posts to see what issues I and others are having to try and resolve them.
I am not able to edit HD videos using Genius G-Shot HD520 camcorder but I am able to edit SD videos using Coby Snapp Cam3000.
I can edit videos from both cameras in Windows Movie Maker and Cyberlink PowerDirector.
When i try to edit videos that are high definition the program does not respond even after leaving it for 1/2 hour or so.
I am also having the program not shut down correctly at times even when editing standard video, parts of the program still are running even though windows does not show it in task manager. A program called Winpatrol still sees it running and the core load shows way too much activity after the program has supposedly stopped, even an hour afterward. This does not happen all the time, only sporadically.
    My systems:
amd athlon 64 X2 dual core 5000+ @ 3 Ghz, PNY NVIDIA 9800GTX+ graphics card(driver ver.195.81), gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 mobo, 4 GB RAM, Seagate 7200RPM sata drive with 200+ GB freespace, windows vista 32 bit business
intel core2quad q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz, zotac NVIDIA 8800 GT graphics card(driver ver.195.81), ecs P45t-a mobo, 4 GB RAM, Seagate 7200RPM sata drive with 300 GB freespace, windows vista 32 bit premium
Please help me get some useful information gathered for support to lead them in the right direction.
PLEASE, no useless arguments or  troubleshooting attempts from those who are not running Adobe Premiere Elements 8.
I would like to get some feedback from users of Adobe Premiere Elements 8, not others.
    1. Does Adobe Premiere Elements 8 work for you with standard videos for simple editing?
    2. Does PE 8 work with high definition video for simple editing?
    3. If you are having problems with PE 8 not working as it should what are they and how are you getting them resolved?
I would like to get real problems that are things that the program should be doing and is not.
Issues like freezing, not importing or exporting video or failing to edit a type of video is what I think support would like to hear about.
    Thank you.
    Jeff Gedgaud

    1. Does Adobe Premiere Elements 8 work for you with standard videos for simple editing?
Never.  Crashes every single time I have tried to use the program.  It crashes at various random times on miniDV video from a Panasonic GS400.  Magix, PowerDirector and Widows MM edit this same source material without issue.  I have absolutely no interest in spending countless hours on the phone with a guy from India or wherever telling me to uninstall and reinstall the program or do a clean install of Windows, or reading something from a script that obviously has nothing to do with the problem, only to have the phone conversation cut off and it be impossible to reach the same person again, only to have to start over.  Here is the latest crash example.
    1.       Launched PRE8
    2.       Opened a project from the welcome screen.  Project consists of DV-AVI files from a Canon GS400.  Project is 23 minutes and 39 seconds in duration.
    3.       Resized the timeline using the “+” and “-“ clickies.
    4.       Clicked the Edit tab.
    5.       Clicked Transitions.
    6.       Clicked the existing “Stretch In” transition on Video Track 1 and pressed the “Delete” key.
    7.       Clicked and dragged the “Cross Zoom” transition between the first and second clip on Video Track 1, where the “Stretch In” transition was previously located.
    8.       Rendered the Timeline by pressing “Enter.”
    9.       Previewed the video near the newly added “Cross Zoom” transition.
    10.   Double clicked the transition in the Timeline and scrubbed the duration to approximately 5 and a half seconds.
    11.   Rendered the Timeline by pressing “Enter.”
    12.   Previewed the video near the just lengthened “Cross Zoom” transition.
    13.   Saved the project by pressing the “Save” icon near the top right hand corner of the program.
    14.   Clicked the “Disk Menus” and selected the “Holiday and Events” drop down.
    15.   Selected the “Blinking Lights” menu and clicked on “Apply.”
    16.   Clicked the “Preview” button.
    17.   Clicked “Play” in the “Preview” window and allowed the video to play for a few seconds and clicked “Pause ||”.
    18.   “X’ed” out of the “Preview” window and clicked the “Done” button.
    19.   Clicked the “Edit” tab and clicked “Clip Art.”
    20.   Scrolled down the “Clip Art” window and clicked and dragged the “Travel Compass” to Video Track 2 at the 56 second mark.
    21.   Rendered the Timeline by pressing “Enter.”
    22.   Previewed the video near the just-entered clip art.
    23.   Moved the Timeline indicator over the Travel Compass clip art in Video Track 2.
    24.   Right clicked the Travel Compass in the Preview window and changed the Magnification to 25%.
    25.   Clicked “Undo” 4 times and clicked “Redo” 4 times.
    26.   Rendered the Timeline by pressing “Enter.”
    27.   Right clicked the Preview window and changed the Magnification to “Fit.”
    28.   Previewed the Timeline near the Travel Compass clip art.
    29.   Selected the “Travel Compass” clip art in Video Track 2 and pressed “Delete.”
    30.   Went to pick up my daughter and returned 20 minutes later.
    31.   Rescued the laptop from sleep.
    32.   Clicked the Effects button.
    33.   Under “GPU Effects” clicked and dragged the “Ripple (Circular)” effect to the second clip on Video Track 1.
    34.   Rendered the Timeline by pressing “Enter.”
    35.   Scrubbed the Timeline to before the video clip with the recently added “Ripple” effect.
    36.   The program crashed without warning with the following Crash Data.

    2. Does PE 8 work with high definition video for simple editing?
I have not tried hi def.
    3. If you are having problems with PE 8 not working as it should what are they and how are you getting them resolved?
I am not getting them resolved.  I am posting to this forum seeking answers.  I have gone through all the proper Adobe channels with no results.  Check around for multiple threads.  I have sent numerous crash reports to Adobe with no response.  No one on this forum nor Adobe has been able to provide a solution that actually works.  Again, Adobe hasn't even tried.
Everything I have stated in this thread is a fact and my actual experience, not speculation.  I too would like the thread to remain open in the hopes of a resolution.  Discourse should not be cut short because it goes against Adobe.  After all, this is a user to user forum that Adobe does not even monitor right, and we as a user group should seek and demand the truth and solutions without being sensored.  I have seen no behavior by anyone in any thread that I have been involved in that should have caused it to be locked.  I have seen healthy differences of opinion and a lot of useless informationas it relates to the problem at hand, but no discourse that was hostile or personal attacks that should have caused a lock.
    Below are my system specifications.
    Thanks

  • Premiere Elements 7: Need Solution for wave_warp.aex crash

    Hello,
I have installed Premiere Elements 7 without problems on my XP-Home PC.
First startup runs some time and loads several files, then suddenly keeps
loading wave_warp.aex for approx. 2-3 seconds, then black screen and reboot.
Tried several times to start PE7, same effect.
Found a solution in kb 403002, but on the download page it states, that this patch is for Vista only. Cannot find a patch for XP.
I downloaded and installed the patch, it did not solve the problem. Maybe it's really for Vista only.
Please help, what can I do?

    Hello,
I have a Dell XPS/Dimension 400/9150 running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I also have purchased Premier Elements 7 and Photoshop Elements 7 as a bundled package.
I have checked the minimum system requirements and happy to report that my system exceeds the minimum requirements to install and run PE7.
Unlike Piku I have never been able to run PE7. Whilst in the loading module and reaching Wave_Warp.AEX the program stops for about 10-20 seconds, then a dialogue box appears with the words, Abobe Premier Elements 7.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
I have formatted the hard drive twice and reinstalled PE7...no success
I have downloaded the latest audio drivers...no success
I have created another user account with administrative controls and re-installed PE7...no success
I have downloaded the patch kb 403002...no success
I have followed every instruction in document kb404997 (troubleshoot system errors)...no success
I have stopped all non essential programs (including firewall etc), re-installed PE7...no success
Have contacted Adobe technical support and was advised that PE7 is not compatible with Media Center...yet the box and the read me file advise otherwise.
I have uninstalled and installed PE7 so many times that I cannot remember how many times...no success
    Any other suggestions?
    Cheers
    Mossie

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12 Editor asks for another keyword approval

I have yesterday purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 12 from an USA based online retailer. The installation was done with the correct key provided by the retailer. Since I am living in Germany, I have installed the program in German language.
The product appears also with the correct key in my Adobe account. (see photo)
Unfortunately I am always reminded by a PopUp that appears when opening the Premiere Elements Editor, saying that I must register the program within 7 days otherwise it will stop functioning. It has already started the countdown and displays that I have now only six days more left.
The PopUp also displays my correct Adobe-ID and informs me that it will check the serial number now. Unfortunately it will not proceed further but asks me to provide an internet connection which is ridiculous since I am continuously connected to the internet. (see photo)
I don't know why the Adobe system cannot access their server or could that be related to the situation that the product was purchased in the USA?
Does anybody know a solution for my problem otherwise I will not be able to use my program within next week?

Have you gone to Computer/Manager/Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Applications and looked for error entries that appear to be associated with this problem?
Did you purchase Photoshop Elements 12 as well as Premiere Elements 12, and does Photoshop Elements 12 Full Editor open whereas Premiere Elements 12 will not open to its Expert or Quick workspaces?
You have probably tried it, but can you open to the Premiere Elements workspaces from the Elements Organizer workspace?
    More later.
