Premiere Elements 8 Smart Options
I have 22 hours of vacation video recorded on a Sony 8mm handycam. I'm going to import into my ATI All-In-Wonder 9600 through the analog inputs (. I really like the Smart Options feature that shows the removal (minimizing) of camera shake and wondered if that is used on just certain sections of the video or globally applied to a whole file (which I was hoping was a viable option). I realize it probably won't eliminate it, but if it diminishes it in any way while maintaining full-frame imaging and quality, that would be all the better. That is a feature I'd like to have in editing software because my camera didn't have a stabalizing feature.
Also, what format should I save the video in for archiving? I may want to refer to the footage later for editing as new tools become available and the prices affordable so I want to have high quality. I understand mpeg2 is not the preferred choice to do editing in, so how would you recommend I save these files for highest editing compatibility and quality when returning to these in the future? I'm not sure what options I have to save when capturing with the ATI card and I doubt it has DV-AVI type 2, but maybe I can at least save in a high quality typical format that will allow me to convert to that without losing quality? I can save at 720x480 at 30fps, just not sure what all the file choices to save in are at the moment.
My system is a P4 3.06GHz Hyperthreading processor, 2GB OCZ high-performance RAM. I realize this isn't edge of the art but I can afford the extra time for it t chew through its' process if it needs to. It's what I have and will have to do I'm afraid. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice :-)
Can I acquire DV-AVI Type II codec as described if I don't have it? I will also look for Lagarith.
If I read your reply to Steve G. correctly, you indicate that DV-AVI is an option with the ATI. If that is correct, that is what you wish to do. There is no need for any other CODEC. I'd not bother with the Lagarith, unless you later need an intermediate, lossless CODEC for some other purpose.
I'm quite confident AVI is an option. Exactly what "flavour" of AVI I'm not quite sure. The software and card are currently installed and I'm preparing to reformat and prepare for an editing PC with what I own hopefully.
That was essentially the reference to which I was replying. If you can do DV-AVI (either flavor), that will suit you best. Now, if it turns out to be DV-AVI Type 1, instead of Type 2, there can be some limitations in file size/Duration, and Type 1's can exhibit OOS (Out Of Sync) issues. These are usually constant OOS, and not drifting. They require a tiny bit of work, but I've found that not only are they constant (in the file), they are also constant between files. What this means is that if you do have any OOS issues, you can correct it and just make note of how much adjustment is required. Then, just apply that adjustment for all the rest. I did an article on OOS issues, and if you do encounter any, I'll give you the link. Chances are also good that you will not.
Yes, PE8 has this and I wondered if anyone could comment on their experience with it.
I've not used this one, only some add-on plug-in Effects from 3rd party providers.
As for the use of analog recording devices (from reply to Steve), I still do a great deal of capturing from VHS material. That goes back another generation from your H8. I use a capture card (not totally unlike your ATI, just separate from all video functions), and it does a great job from my VHS/DVD player. Were I buying something today, it would be the Grass Valley/Canopus 300, as I really like its TimeBase corrections. However, it's not an inexpensive solution, and I do aleady have a card installed and functioning properly. With my new workstation, I will probably go with the Canopus 300, if for no other reason than to save a PCIe slot on my MoBo.
As mentioned upthread, I capture to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio, and have zero issues. These VHS to digital files edit perfectly in PrPro, or PrE.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - as more camera move to flash and similar captures, plus as HD grows in popularity, we'll soon look back and wonder where support for our DV-tape-based recording devices went.

Adobe premiere elements 7 output options
I want to see the edited film in HD quality on TV but AP7 will not export in HD quality and I have heard that burning a Blu-ray requires preprocessing so that the quality is compromised there too. Is this correct? What can I gain with upgrading in terms of output quality? I think the optimal solution would be to export the film to a media player which then plays it on TV. We want to see the film in HD on TV.
Thank You from swedennicholas55
First, Premiere Elements (any version) on any operating system, you are not going to get Dolby Digital 5.1 channel or any other 5.1 channel audio on the burn to DVD or Blu-ray. You get Dolby Digital 2 channel audio. The frame rate is 25 interlaced frames per second (in your PAL setup). That is it.
There is no project preset for 1080p50 in Premiere Elements 7. We might improvise with the PAL AVCHD Full HD1080i25 5.1 channel project preset and depend on the export settings to define your export. It gets tricky in 7 when you are dealing with AVCHD 5.1 channel and its automatic jumping to upper tracks unless the project preset is set for an AVCHD 5.1 channel one.
As for Premiere Elements 7 export to file, in workarounds (customizing the MPEG/HD 720p preset, I can get you a 1080p50 Dolby Digital Stereo as MPEG2.mpg file). There would be bitrate settings available for adjustment to set for a compromise between file size and quality.
Premiere Elements 12 would offer
a. 1080p50 project preset
b. more available resources if it was running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
c. AVCHD compression for export, better quality than MPEG2
d. Opportunities to export the 1080p50 AAC 5.1 channel or Windows Media Audio 10 Professional 5.1 channel.
e. Burn to Blu-ray or DVD would still end up 1920 x 1080 display 25 interlaced frames per second and Dolby Digital Stereo 2 channel audio.
The following blog posts can give you some insight into the Premiere Elements 5.1 channel situation if 5.1 channel export to file saved to computer hard drive is an expectation.

http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/07/pe11-exporting-1080p25-or-1080p30-file.html
http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/10/pe12-exporting-720p50-or-720p60-file.html
"1080p50" designates that you have 1920 x 1080 @ 50 progressive frames per second. That does not tell you the audio and video compression and file extension. It, like your present video, could have a .mts file extension. The video compression is probably AVCHD. The audio compression will likely be Dolby Digital 5.1 channel.
You need to evaluate the features of the camera and determine which gives you better quality footage before it even gets to Premiere Elements. Any chance of getting sample video from the sales people. Sometimes you can find samples for a given brand/model online that you can experiment with. Definitely do not buy Premiere Elements before you evaluate it as a tryout with is essentially full featured.
One investment begets another investment. So critically evaluate what you need.
As always, please ask for clarification on anything that I have written if needed.
Thanks.

I purchased Premiere Elements 13 and it is not compatible to Win Vista which is my operating system. What are my options?
deniseu
1. If you are within 30 days of purchase and purchased from Adobe as a download, then you can request return/refund from Adobe.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/return-cancel-or-change-order.html
2. You could install your Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
3. If still in stock, purchase a version of Premiere Elements earlier than 13.
Adobe System Requirements point to 13 not supporting Windows XP, Windows Vista, or OSX 10.7. To test that a while back, I tried to install Premiere Elements 13 to my Windows XP SP3 32 bit computer. I found that I could download the 13 tryout from Adobe, but it would not install on the Windows XP computer.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. So the replies are not automatic. But as user, we try to reply to questions as soon as possible. We are visitors here just like you. I do not work for Adobe and am not affiliated with it in any way.
Any questions or need clarification on the above, please do not hesitate to ask.

Add On...Since you apparently have Premiere Elements 12, another option is to stay with version 12 on your Windows Vista computer. You would improve your situation with Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer and Premiere Elements 10, 11, 12/12.1, and 13/13.1. -
Moving a project from Premiere Elements
I have just created -- successfully, for the most part -- a nice video in
Premiere Elements, commemorating my daughter's bat mitzvah, with two camera
angles, creative integration of many still images, and multiple audio
tracks. I was pleased with how smoothly it went...until it came time to burn
the DVD.
At that point, I found a disappointingly small number of layout choices and
virtually no ability to customize the ones that were there. I don't need a
template; I just want to be able to choose a background image and round up
the DVD markers that I carefully inserted. That modest desire appears
outside of the range of the program's templates.
Turning my attention to Encore, it appears as if this is the app that I
should have turned to for DVD creation in the first place. Before I traverse
this program's learning curve, I need to know if it will be able to start
with my PREL file, including the DVD markers that I created.
Thanks...
Rick A.
Pleasanton CAYou won't be able to import the Premiere Elements file.
What you will need to do is export the video file as you have edited it f5rom Premiere as either a movie file, or (if Premiere Elements has the option) an MPEG-2 file where the sequence markers you have created will turn into chapter markers.
However, I would personally recommend using the export as an AVCI type movie even if Prem El does support direct to MPEG-2.
This is for a couple of pretty good reasons:
1 - when you import an AVI file into Encore, you get precise control over exactly where the chapter points go. With MPEG-2 files, you do not have as much control.
2 - And this is the most important reason - it saves you having to do a "bit budget" & work out just how much bitrate you need to assign to the video so that it fits onto the DVD.
Encore will take care of this automatically, and it does a pretty good job of it. -
Missing Animated GIF option in Premiere Elements 9
Greetings!
I have been researching this for a while and it's driving me a little crazy. I have an incredibly short video clip (like three seconds) that would make a perfect animated GIF. I read online that it's possible. The help files for Premiere list Animated GIF as a supported export format.
BUT, when I go to the Share tab, there isn't a single option for creating one. It's a pretty infuriating.
Any help?I'm looking at the help file for Premiere Elements 9, and it lists Animated GIF. I do not think it's unusual for a video editor to export a video to a "motion image." It exports individual image files, so why not GIF? And there are instructions elsewhere online for creating GIFs with Premiere, but they're all using older versions using the File > Export menu. That item is grayed out now, which is another terrible UI design because it took me a while, as a new Premiere user, to figure out how to perform the basic task of creating a video from my timeline.

Adobe Download Assistant options do not include Premiere Elements
I have Photoshop Elements 10 and am trying to download the trial version of Elements Premiere 11 so that I can use the DVD with menu feature. When the download assistant opens and I sign in there is no option to download Elements Premiere 11. I have tried re-installing and obtained the same result. How can I download the trial version of Elements Premiere 11?
Hi,
Please use this link to reinitiate the download : Premiere Elements 11 Trial

I HAVE ADOBE PREMIERE ELEMENTS 10.
Problem #1 I used to have many options on the "Disc Menu" to set up my DVD.. and now it is very limited..almost no templates.
Problem #2 I try to sign in to my account through Premiere and it will never sign on...just keeps acting like its trying to but never connects. Anyone have any thoughts??JEN-E-FER-FER
With versions earlier than 11, there is no more Sign In. If you get any message to that effect, ignore and cancel out of them. You should be able to move forward to your import, editing, and exports using the program nonetheless.
As for the disc menus, those marked photoshop.com plus members only are no longer available to you in versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 11. You may see the thumbnails for those members only items, but they are no longer available to you in Premiere Elements earlier than 10.
Interestingly, many of them are found in Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 as part of the program with no need to purchase them or have any special membership in anything. Adobe has promoted Adobe Revel as a replacement for photoshop.com, but that has no impact on this disc menus issue.
This all has to do with Adobe discontinuing photoshop.com and photoshop.com plus et al.
If you need to download regular disc menus for Premiere Elements 10, please review the following
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE 7, 8, 9,10: Content Download
Bottom lines:
1. No more Sign In for Premiere Elements 10
2. No access to photoshop.com plus (members only) disc menus
Any questions or need clarification on anything written, please do not hesitate to ask.

MPG smart rendering in Adobe Premiere Elements 7?
Hi,
Does anybody know if Adobe Premiere Elements 7 supports smart rendering of MPG files? I have a Sony HDD camcorder (non-HD) and would like to combine clips into longer MPG files without reencoding.
In the past I have used MainConcepts MPEG Elements, but that is not supported anymore (and there were issues with in anyway).
Thanks.
RalphI have Mainconcepts MPEG Elements 1.01 installed in PRE 7.
The only thing that I found that doesn't work is capturing. When I want to capture, I disable the plug-in by changing the name of the Mainconcept folder:
From:
C:\program files\common files\mainconcept\MPEG PRO PE
To:
C:\program files\common files\mainconcept\MPEG PRO PE.RJJ
When you disable the Mainconcept Plug-in, you won't be able to edit any projects that were created with a Mainconcept project preset. Well, actually you can, but PRE puts the project in "Desktop" mode.
There is a registry entry that the Mainconcept Plug-in uses during installation to determine which version of Premiere Elements the plug-in is intalled in and which version can use the plug-in.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Premiere Elements\CurrentVersion
ApplicationPath: D:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\
Plug-InsDir: D:\Program Files\Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0\Plug-ins\en_us
I also have version 2.0 installed and when I want to use Mainconcept Plug-in with 2.0, I edit the registry settings and change 7.0 to 2.0 in the path names.
Smart Rendering does work in PRE 7 when you have the Mainconcept plug-in.
When you start Premiere Elements 7 after installing the plug-in, make sure to hold down the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT keys so the plug-in cache is reset. -
Photoshop premiere elements 13 no email option under share PC
I created a trade show ad using photoshop elements premiere 13. I need to email this project, yet there is no email option to choose from the list under "share" I specified outlook as my email client and I'm using a pc. Any help would be great. Thanks
valbom
Premiere Elements comes with an Elements Organizer, and it is that Elements Organizer/Share that has had the Photo Mail and Email Attachments choices.
In Elements Organizer 13/Share that comes with Premiere Elements 13, Photo Mail and Email Attachments names are gone from the list under Share and only
"Email" is seen. Using this Email choice, you can email photos and videos as attachments. You will get a warning message if the file size exceeds 10 MB, but I have been able to send a 25 MB video, using Gmail in preferences and sending it to myself at my Gmail address. The size issue goes to the Internet provider limitations rather than the Share feature. Although the email was "successfully" sent at that size, I am still trying to verify that I will receive it.
What I found a challenge was setting up this "Email" in preferences. With Email Clients = AOL, Gmail, Yahoo!Mail, or Microsoft Account (HotMail), there should not be any problems since the user is not asked to specify a Server Name or Port. But, if you have to go to "Other" and give those details, problems. I am going to be writing this up in my blog within the next 24 hours. The blog will have more details....most important I will write how to clear the mess after you go to Other and have a list of non working Email Profiles that refuse to delete within the preference area.
What are the details of your situation? What Email client do you want to use? And, will an Email attachment serve your purposes.
To be continued....

Premiere Elements 12-Instant movie option
I just recently purchased Premiere Elements 12 so I am a newbie. I like the effects in one of the instant movie options, specifically the news reel one. However, I want to put the photos that I am using in a certain order, but the instant movie rearranges them. Is there a way to make it use my order? I also want to center a photo within the box on the part of the clip with the coffee mug and reel on a desk. Is there a way to do that too? Thanks in advance!
dm
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? For now, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
1. For order of photos in News Reel Instant Movie, in setup,
Top
no check mark next to AutoEdit
dot next to Entire Movie
check mark next to AutoAnalyzer
no dot for selected clips
Duration
dot the Use All Clips
2. To center a photo in the finished Instant Movie
Right click the finished Instant Movie on the Timeline, and select Break Apart Instant Movie.
That command will do just that. Once the Instant Movie is broken apart, then find the photos
on the Timeline and move and resize them carefully.
If you need further details, please let me know.
Thanks.

I've just upgrade to Premiere Elements 13. I found the Instant Movie option is not there anymore? is this feature removed? Any one has an idea?

It is there. In 13, look under Create in the Expert and Quick workspaces. And, once you update from 13 to 13.1 using an opened projects Help Menu/Update, you
will see an extra location for the feature - right in front of you in the main panel.

Premiere Elements 9 Videomerge No "Invert Selection" Option
The Premiere Elements 9 Help PDF says that there is an Invert Selection option for Effects/Video Effects/Videomerge.
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiereelements/using/WSB8CADC6B-F700-4e6d-A331-DAE949B09784. html
Yet, if you look for the Videomerge "Invert Selection" option in version 9, it is not there, whereas it is actually there in versions 7 and 8. Often Videomerge is referred to as an automatic ChromaKey (Effects/Video Effects/Keying/ChromaKey). None of the versions have the "Invert Selection" for ChromaKey. So that is not in question here.
Steve Grisetti or anyone else ever notice this and is there an explanation for what happened to "Invert Selection" for Videomerge in Premiere Elements 9?
Thanks for any input on this matter which was originally brought up by another user at another forum.
ATRRobert J Johnston
I was and am fully aware of keyframing/keyframing effects et al, Show Clip Keyframes and track content yellow line and typically all that goes with that. What I was unfamiliar with was your term "envelope" that you used to describe a Premiere Elements track feature that I had seen previously here and elsewhere for Premiere Elements only as yellow band, yellow rubberband, Opacity yellow band (for video track), or Volume yellow band (for audio track).
Your last response motivated me to look deeper into what you could be referring to as envelope and therein evolved the amazing situation to which you referred. Typically if you click drag that Opacity "yellow band" to different positions, you can adjust the Opacity of the highlighted video clip between 0 to 100% to see the value at the track level as well as in Properties Panel/Opacity Panel, That is the case even after you have applied the Videomerge effect to that clip without going near the Show Clip Keyframes/Videomerge/Invert Selection. But once you do select Invert Selection via Show Clip Keyframes/Video Merge, then, when you move the Opacity "yellow band", that Opacity "yellow band" targets at its lowest level "Invert Selection" OFF and the upper level "Invert Selection ON. Now the "Opacity" adjust (classic role of the yellow band of video track) is not doable at the track level or is it reflected in any changes in Propertes Palette/Opacity Panel for this highlighted clip.
Exploration and experimentation follows after you discover this unexpected and previously undocumented situation. And, for me, there are a lot of what if I do this or that to look into here,
I need to do the exploration and experimentation. I think I got your message fully now. If I have further misinterpreted it, please let me know.
Many thanks for posting this interesting information.

Premiere Elements 8 crashes when selecting the edit option
Hi to you all,
I just installed Premiere Elements 8 on my new system.
It is a Intel i5 + 4 GB mem, GTS250 and 400 GB of free disk space.
OS is WIndows 7 64 bits. The system is completely up-to-date with patches, fixes and so on.
BIOS, Drivers etc. All to the latest.
Starting PE8, no problem
Getting the film from my sony DV on to the disk, no problem.
Disc menu: no problem
Then when I want to add transitions or titles via the edit menu, Premiere elements 8 crashes. It is not responding anymore and windows is looking for a solution.
I followed the hints and tips on this forum on crashing Elements 8. No help. Quicktime to the latest. ended processes. All no help.
I also started PE8 in WIndows XP SP3 mode. Same problem.
Could it be the 64 bits?
Any help would be appriciated.
Richard
The NetherlandsThank you all for the quick replies.
I installed the latest Nvidia GTS250 driver (from the Nvidia site) and guess. No crash anymore when selecting the edit menu.
My graphical card is a Asus GTS250 DK/DI/1GB and I was using the latest drivers retrieved from the asus site. Those drivers are old.
I can now continue to evaluate Premiere Elements 8.0
Thanks all.

I have worked with Premiere Elements 9 as tryout and purchased product from its release time (about 2012). And in 2012 I wrote about it in

Premiere Elements 9 Daily Discoveries Premiere Elements 9 Daily Discoveries - Elements Village
Premiere Elements 9 has been on my Windows 7 64 bit computer (Intel video card/graphics card) since 2012 without problems after the display card error was resolved. No relaps in that regard.
Premiere Elements 9 has been on my Windows XP 32 bit (NVIDIA) and Windows XP 32 bit virtual since 2012 without problems.
Premiere Elements 9 has gone through some installs, reinstalls on Windows 8 and 8.1 (Intel video card/graphics card) from time to time without any problems.
Unless you use the audio fix that I described, there is a problem with retaining replacement background for the burn to DVD-VIDEO products. See post numbered 8 in the Premiere Elements 9 Daily Discoveries thread cited above.
Other program glitches are described in the threads cited above. But, none, except the display matter, ever kept me from using the program successfully.
Premiere Elements 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 are on my Windows 7 64 bit, used one at a time. I have looked at Lightroom tryouts (never went with the product), and they did not compromise the working of version 9 at the time. I have never used Photoshop CS6 nor the GoPro software.
Premiere Elements 10, 11, 12 are on my Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit when I install 9.0/9.0.1 there from time to time for user troubleshooting purposes - my posts are based on first hand experiences with Premiere Elements.
My major problem with the program was the display card error reported.
Premiere Elements 9 Tryout Serious Display Problem
See post 10 in the thread just cited for the rationale behind the BadDrivers.txt file deletion.
Although that type of issue can present in Premiere Elements other than 9, it seems to me that version 9 was worst case in this regard. My solution was the deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file even with an up to date video card/graphics card.
If deletion of Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and/or the whole 9 Folder in which it exists does not resolve your Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 issue, then I would suggest
a. looking into the video card/graphics card and its driver - double check to assure that your video card/graphics card is up to date...and, if it is, delete the BadDrivers.txt file.
b. assure that you have the 9.0.1 Update installed
c. double check Scratch Disks location and free hard drive space at that location, if you can get into a project
More later.
Please review and consider. (If you are thinking 12/12.1, please look at the tryout before purchase.)

HI, I have used the function module ME_PO_PRICE_SIMULATION to give the pricing details in one report. In the same function module it is also giving the tax applicable for the vendor-material-site combination. ie., tax code and the tax. procedure.

Mac OS 10.4 is the limit for my old Mac. I get the message that I should upgrade to a newer version of Firefox than 3.6.25, but the "tell me more" and other links it presents me offer no hint of that newer compatible version.
