Premiere Elements 9 does not fully support AVCHD

Don't believe the reviews such as the one on http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ which state that Adobe Premiere Elements 9 supports AVCHD export to a disk. It DOES NOT!
I happily purchased the product last week based on this review, and what I had thought was a solid brand name solution for editing AVCHD video and rendering it on DVDs. Lo and behold this product only IMPORTS AVCHD - the most popular HD format for consumer video cameras. My export choice is to either settle for low resolution on a DVD or purchase a Blu Ray burner and insanely expensive, Blu Ray disks that are too large for most of my needs if I want any type of HD output.
Why would Adobe produce such a brain dead product so long after AVCHD as been on the market? As a result of my frustration, two days ago I purchased Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 for less money and it does a fabulous job editing and rendering AVCHD on a DVD. Furthermore it SCREAMS compared to the Adobe product.
I would highly recommend that anyone who has an AVCHD HD video camera not purchase this product and look at the Corel software instead.
Am I missing something here?

Thanks everyone for the posts. Although I didn't really ask a question expecting an answer, with all the back and forth reaponses the correct answer is really quite clear. If you want to easily produce HQ quality edited videos on anything other than expensive Blu-Ray disks with an expensive burner then buy a different product. Premiere Elements 9 doesn't do it.
I would HIGHLY recommend Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 for those of you who contributed to the responses to my post. it works great, and with one click you can burn a beautiful high definition edited movie on INEXPENSIVE DVDs. They will play on virtually any of the newer Blu-Ray players, since most support AVCHD, and you don't need tp purchase a Blu Ray burner either.
Hopefully Premiere Elements 10 will get it right. In the mean time does anyone want to but version 9 REALLY cheap? It's worth about as much to me as the salvage value of the plastic that went into the install disc.....

Premiere Elements V4 does not support Matrox Parhelia 128bm Video Card.  Is there a recommended card that will work?
I have an Asus P2B Mother Board.  Many thanks for any feedback.

    Welcome to the forum.
About any current card, with good driver support, should work fine. The amount of VRAM is not that important, but I would go with ~ 1GB. The driver support is the main factor.
I am running PrE 4.0 and PrPro CS 2 Production Studio on my laptop w/ an nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX - 512GB VRAM, with no issues. That card/chip is a bit old now, and obviously the VRAM is less, than I mentioned, but to "future-proof" the computer a bit, the ~ 1GB VRAM would possibly help.
    Good luck,

My serial number for adobe photoshop elements 12 and premiere elements 12 does not work.  On adobe.com it shows that the serial number I received is associated with adobe photoshop elements 9 and premiere elements 9.  I have purchased those products in the past, but just recently upgraded to elements 12.  I can use the the photoshop organizer, but can't open the photoshop editor.

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues.

  • Premiere Elements 13 - Does not support 2.7K or 4.K formats like used in GoPro and utube... When will it support these formats??

When will Premiere Elements 13 support 2.7K and 4K??

I have fixed all the IP adresses to avoid the DHCP problem but I still have problems.
    I have sereval scenarioes:
    1. MC < 1Gb wire > WRT610N < 5.0n WIFI > MX
I can see HDTV on this one but it disconnects
    2. MC < 1Gb wire > WRT610N < 2.4b/g WIFI > MX
    No HDTV and disconnections
    3. MC < 2.4b/g WIFI > WRT610N < 2.4b/g WIFI > MX
No HDTV but no disconnections - but very slow and streaming like youtube
    4. MC < 100Mb wire > WRT610N < 2.4b/g WIFI > MX
No HDTV but nice picture - testing for disconnections right now - 30+ min.
    Result:
This test was very good. Stabil streaming, no disconnects for an hour. Won't support HDTV but the rest seem to work fine.
    5. MC < 100Mb wire > WRT610N < 5.0n WIFI > MX
Not tested yet - looking forward to this - might bring me HDTV.
    Result:
This gives HDTV but there is a problem with stability on the streaming but very difficult to see on the picture. Testing for disconnects - now tested for 30 min. - no disconnects.
    This looks really promissing.
I am pretty sure that the WRT610N have a problem in the switching part of the router specially when it has to switch from 1G to WIFI. I bought the WRT610N to get HDTV on WIFI and Cisco markets the DMA and WRT610N as a perfect match. But it definately have problems - i still do not understand their silence about this.
I will come back with the last results when I have them

  • Premiere Elements 12 does not recognize blank Blu-ray disc.

I just upgraded from Premiere Elements 8 to PRE12.  Now when I insert a blank Blu-ray disc in the BR burner, I get a message "Media Not Present".  It does recognize the burner, but not the blank disc.  Yet when I open PRE 8, PRE 8 does recognize this very same disc in the same burner!  Also, PRE 12 can burn a blank DVD in this same burner.  The Blu-ray disc also appears as a completely blank in Windows File Explorer.  And this is a problem even after updating to release 12.1.  The Adobe chat representative tells me this is a know issue with PRE12.    I find that difficult to accept, since why would Adobe change in PRE 12 something that was not broken? What's the truth, and when and how can it be fixed?

First, I tried uninstalling, register cleaning and reinstalling Premiere Elements.  This was a mess.  I kept getting error messages when trying to reinstall.  So I had to do a system restore to just before I uninstalled PRE.  After that restore, PRE would not open.  So I did another uninstall from Control Panel and reinstall, without touching the registry.  Then, I was back in operation, several frustrating hours later. But still the BR drive would not recognize Blu-ray discs.
So then I loaded a BR-RE disc, instead of a BR-R, and still no recognition.
Then I installed the external Blu-ray burner, and finally PRE12 recognized the blank Blu-ray disc.  I had a sign that this would work when I attached an external DVD drive to burn a AVCHD file, and PRE12 recognized the blank media, whereas it did not recognize any blank DVDs in the internal BR drive for burning AVCHD files.  As a alternative to borrowing an external BR drive to see if this fixes the Media not Present message, I suggest using a much more readily available external DVD drive and try to burn a AVCHD file first.  If that works, then one can be much more confident that purchasing an external Blu-ray drive will provide the solution.
Yet I deeply resent having to purchase a $125 piece of hardware, which is otherwise useless to me, to fix a bug in a program.  The box promises the ability to export a Blu-ray disc.  Since their lawyers use the weasel word "compatible" Blu-ray burner required, I fully expect them to take the position that now only an external burner is "compatible", and do nothing to fix the compatibility with internal burners.  Potential buyers be forewarned!
As an alternative to paying more money to make their software work as indicted on the box, one might want to settle for only being able to write AVCHD files to a DVD.  Most every computer (except Ultrabooks) has an internal DVD burner, which supposedly all that would be needed to burn this kind of HD file.  But first, we all need to know, will PRE12 return a Media not Present message when burning a AVCHD file to an internal DVD burner?  What are the field reports of any problems incurred doing this procedure?  Please advise.
And one more question.  When I burn an AVCHD file to a DVD, the DVD is not finalizied by PRE12.  After burning the AVCHD file, the DVD shows free space available, but after burning a DVD Video, there is no free space available.  Moreover, ImgBurn does finalize DVDs after burning AVCHD files to them.  So Is this failure by PRE12 to finalize another bug?  Can ImgBurn now finalize an unfinalizied AVCHD disc left by PRE12 -- without having to run another session of PRE to burn to a folder now, of course?  If so, how?

  • Adobe premiere elements 13 does not run

    Hy,
I bought adobe photoshop and premiere elements 13 and installed first of all adobe premiere on my laptop with windows 8. Every time I start the program it tells me to register the program and to accept the therms and conditions of adobe. After I ACCEPTED THEM NOTHING ELSE HAPPENS; THE PROGRAM STOPS SOMEHOW????
I reinstalled the program, I registered the Program directly at the homepage, nothing solved the problem...
    Heeeeeeeelp me please!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. While reading through it, I was struck by
I work with a normal Compaq LAPTOP 1,72 GHZ and 2 GB RAM Windows 8.
The processor clock speed is low, but look at the installed RAM of 2 GB. I suspect much too low.  If you have high definition project with video compression like AVCHD, you should be in for major problems even if you get the program to open. So, this is a major concern even at the level of trying to get the program to open in that computer environment. How many RAM slots does your computer motherboard have? Can you get at least 4 to 8 GB total installed RAM?
True, your Premiere Elements 13 is a 64 bit application running on Windows 8.1 64 bit and it can take advantage of the 64 bit resources. But you do not appear
to have much 64 bit resources for this to be a positive factor.
With regard to a possible factor that you mentioned...
If you suspect leftovers from previously uninstalled program(s), it is a good idea to go through the scenario
    a. uninstall the program the usual control panel way
    b. do a free ccleaner run through to get rid of leftovers from incomplete installs and reinstalls
    CCleaner - Download
    c. reinstall the program with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
Please review and consider. And, then we can discuss the above factors further.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 11 does not open

    Hello,
I just bought adobe photo elements 11 and premiere 11. I already had a trial version from Photo Elements11. With the code I could activate the whole program so this succeeded.
However, I tried to install Adobe Premiere elements 11 (several times) I installed and de-installed and re-installed a couple of times but with no success. During the installation process it does go through the whole installing procedure and everything seemed ok; the icon appears on my desktop but when I try to click to open it, it doesn't open..(it's not doing anything at all, you see the mouse turning into that "swirl circle" very briefly then it stops and nothing opens)
I also tried to download the trial version and hoped with the code I could open it, but nothing happen there either.
Hope you can help me out. I also didn;t receive any error messages.
    I have a Intel Core i5-2430M - 2,4 Ghz, Windows7.
    thanks!

Could be the auxilairy processes failing to initialize. Perhaps the event viewer can provide some clues:
Working with your Operating System’s Tools
Could also be an issue with teh activation stuff, so try running Help --> Deactivate in PSE, then launch PRE to bring up the activation dialog....

  • Premiere Elements 12 does not start after error message: display driver is incompatible

After successful installation and starting Premiere Elements the following error message appears: "Uncompatible display driver identified. Update the display driver for a better and faster playback performance!" Hopefully my translation from German is helpful enough. I confirmed with OK but unfortunately Premiere Elements does not start. I checked the display driver: it is the most actual one: AMD Radeon HD 7610M. Furthermore the hardware should be OK as well: ASUStek with an Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @2.5 GHz; 6 GB RAM; 64 Bit Windows 7 Service Pack 1. What can I do?

    Moonkeys25
Recap...please confirm that as of this date, the problem exists with or without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
    Moving forward...
If you issue was specific to the display card error that you have been getting then probable conclusions
    a. the ADM Radeon H7610M driver version is not up to date
    or
    b. the ADM Radeon H7610 M video card/graphics card installed as is is not compatible with Premiere Elements 12 on your Windows 7 SP1 64 bit
The updated driver version and the BadDrivers.txt file deletion should have corrected the problem unless there is a gross mismatch between Premiere Elements 12 and ADM Radeon H7610M.
Did you use the link that John posted to get the auto detection of the latest driver version for the ADM card?
If we have gone as far as we can with the card and its driver version angle on this, then we can try the generalized troubleshooting drills with no guarantees, just hopes
    1. Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. You just need to make sure to have the computer's Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
    2. If "1" has no effect on the issue...uninstall, ccleaner run through time, reinstall with antivirus and firewalls turned off.
    a. Control Panel/Program, select Adobe Premiere Elements 12, right click the entry and click on the Uninstall pop up. Then follow the instructions for the uninstall.
    b. Download and install the free ccleaner for a computer run through to get rid of leftovers from incomplete uninstalls and installs.
    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
When you are ready for this step, I will give you a step by step through the ccleaner (regular cleaning part and registry cleaning part).
    c. Reinstall from your installation files or installation disc, with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
Please review above and then let me know if I have interpreted correctly where we are in the troubleshooting. Do not start the above plan until we are in agreement on the details and hoped for results.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 11 Does Not Launch

    Hello -
I've recently installed Premier Elements 11 on Windows 7 (64 bit). I'm having a very similar problem to what the user in http://forums.adobe.com/message/5499536 has been going through. When going to Video Editor->New Project the app simply fails to launch. The thread referenced is painful to read with way too many possibilities for errors along the way. Is there a way to start things up in debug mode or in some other way so the program can tell us what's wrong? The guessing game is tough and knowing that things are fragile when there are changes to the system means this is an exercise that many will have to endure.
    Steve

    Steve
Let us go through this for your specific situation.
Windows 7 64 bit. How much RAM do you have installed and how much free hard drive space? Overall what is the processor description, dual core,  ?GHz
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed? And, do you check permission, either running program from a User Account labelled for Administrative Priviledges or by right clicking the destop icon and selecting Run As Administrator?
Have you been able to open any Premiere Elements 11 project on that Windows 7 64 bit computer to date?
Rather than have you go through deactivate, uninstall, reinstall at this time, let us see what happens if you delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file or the whole folder in which it exists.
Make sure that you are working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives selected.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Folder that you delete. And, if that does not do it, then delete the 11.0 Folder in which it is included.
Another candidate for creating problems with the program is the antivirus program. See if disabling that in Action Center, has any impact on your Premiere Elements 11 performance on Windows 7 64 bit. Temporarily remove the check mark next to virus protection.
It might be easier to go through the thread that you mentioned and work through the possibilities than it would be to do otherwise.
Another prime candidate is the video card driver and whether or not it is update to date according to the information at the web site of the video card manufacturer.
All quick enough to do in a systematic troubleshooting plan.
Under Window Menu in the project, there is an Event category.
And, there is an Adobe troubleshooting scheme using Logs to troubleshoot installation issues.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-install-using-logs-elements.html
See how you do on the above. Then, if you have not done it already, I would suggest that deactivate the program (in the project Help Menu/Deactivate), close the program, and then go the Control Panel route to uninstall the program. Then reinstall the program. All this with the antivirus and firewalls disabled for this time period.
How did you do resizing that photos? Did your friend help you with that or is the meeting with the friend still to come. I ask since perhaps the friend could get a first hand look of the situation and perhaps from that perspective target the issue. If not, it is a process of going through the typical troubleshooting schemes  systematically to rule out or in what we can.
Please take it one step at a time and let us see if we can work through this.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere elements 12 does not open

i have photoshop and premiere elements 12.  the photoshop works fine, but the premiere does not open.  when clicked on the hard drive spins for a short time but nothing opens.  using windows 7.

    etvicb
When you go to the Control Panel/Install Programs, is Premiere Elements 12 shown to be installed on the Windows 7 (assumed 64 bit) computer? After the program installation and restart of the computer, you should have gotten a Sign In dialog. You need to give you Adobe ID and password there for the program activation.
When you are trying to get the program to respond, are there error messages being deposited in the Event Viewer (Computer/Manage/Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Applications)? Have you checked for any error messages there?
If you look at the Notepad document for the Hosts File, does it look like this default representation
Path to the hosts file in Windows 7 64 bit is
    Local Disk C
    Windows
    System32
    drivers
    etc
and in the etc Folder is the hosts file.
Right click on the hosts file followed by Open and select Notepad. This should
give you what you see in the screenshot above. If you see anything below the line
    #     ::1      localhosts
then we need to check that out.
The antivirus is the most likely candidate to look at in the troubleshooting scheme, but also
check out any firewall involvement as well.
Are you all set on permissions - Run As Administrator and User Account with Administrative Privileges? Is your Internet connection OK? Latest version of QuickTime installed?
Although Premiere Elements is not mentioned specifically in the following Adobe document, I have seen Adobe Staff make reference to it for Premiere Elements troubleshooting purposes, you may want to check it out
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html
Please review the above and then we can decide what next and consider the benefits of getting Adobe involved in the issue, especially if you are within 30 days of purchase.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • If Premiere Elements 8 does not properly exit or does not restart, try this

Pending a fix or advice from Adobe, I've written a tiny program to help with problems of Premiere Elements 8 not shutting down properly.
"PE8 Runner" is a small utility which...
    - Asks you whether you want to run Premiere Elements 8.0 with or without the welcome screen
    - Checks after you close the program whether it really has closed, or whether its process is still running
    - Asks you whether you want to terminate the unclosed process (so you don't have to use Windows Task Manager to do it).
    INSTALLATION
None.  You can run PE8 Runner.exe from anywhere on your PC.  But it assumes you have Premiere Elements installed
in the default location (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0)
    USE
    Run PE8 Runner.
Answer yes or no to the question about using the welcome screen.
(If you choose not to use the welcome screen you will go straight to the program
and then you must open or create a project using the normal menu).
Use Premiere Elements 8 as normal.
After you close Premiere Elements 8, about 10 or 20 seconds afterwards
you may see a window pop up telling you that the Premiere Elements process
is still running (and using your PC's resources), and asking you if you want
    to terminate the process.
Unless you are in fact still using the program, answer "yes".
    LIABILITY
The author (me) has developed and tested the program on a virus-protected system
using Windows XP SP3.  Every precaution has been taken to ensure that
it is reliable, but it's up to you to choose whether to use it or not, and the author
accepts no responsibility for the outcome.
Please test it on an unimportant project before using it on something real.
I have not been able to test it on other versions of Windows and would be interested in any reports.
Download link http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/9/22/1451533/PE8%20Runner.zip - it's a small download.  Source code is included.

I really can not understand their logic.  It is showing in Task Manager because the process (Adobe's exe) is still running and using the CPU.  I know this because it causes a slowdown on my system as well.  They are either assuming that Task Manager is reporting a ghost so it is an OS system, or they are claiming that they are making a call to a Microsoft function in a redistributable .dll or a function in a compile time library written by Microsoft, and that function is not operating as specified by Microsoft.
I know that it isn't a ghost report; the process is running.  If it is a failure in a .dll or library, Adobe will still have to issue an update to us after reporting it to Microsoft and MS putting out a developer's update. We can not report it to Microsoft because we do not know what functions they are calling.
It really sounds like their application is not distributing the exit call to all of its processes.  Without a design map and the code, it is all conjecture and I really shouldn't be guessing at what I really don't know.
Based on how many folks all see this, I can't imagine how this slipped through testing.  Oh well, it did and most organizations have one slip through every now and then.  The real important thing is how Adobe responds to the discovery.  I personally would be happier with a "We have been notified of this issue and our developers are working to recreate it and then correct any problems we identify."  It sounds like tech support has been outsourced and is too far removed from the situation to really respond with anything more than deflection. I have run into this with Digital River and their overseas call center.  They could answer by the script, but they really could not get to the folks who could provide answers or solutions. This kind of support is what turned me away from a large scale installation of Adobe consumer applications.  I have found better stability and support with the professional line of products.
I am looking forward to fix for this and any other issues.  PE is fun to play with.

  • Premiere Elements 10 Does Not Recognize Camcorder

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get Adobe Elements 10 to recognize my Canon Elura 60 camcorder?  The program worked fine on my Sony Viao laptop, but the laptop died and has been replaced by a new desktop computer.  The program recognizes my Canon Legria HV40, but not the Elura 60.  The HV40 can not playback the tapes recorded on the Elura 60, so using it to transfer the data is not an option.  I did notice after upgrading the Elements 10 that the list of supported devices did not include the Elura 60.  Could this upgrade be the diference between the original program working with the Elura before but not now?  Any help gratefully received.  Thanks for your time.

    Hi Steve
Many thanks for getting back to me re this issue.  I am using a Firewire connection and as I said before Elements 10 does recognize the HD camcorder, but not the digital SD camcorder.  I am baffled by the fact that the program was working fine on my Sony Viao laptop that perished.  At that time I only had the Canon Elura 60, as my HV30 was stolen in a break-in at our second home in France.  The HV40 was purchased so that I could record in HD to replace the stolen HV30.  I may try on of the ''freebie'' programs recommended by another forum contributor.  I will buy another software program before I call Adobe tech support at £35 a pop.  If I could only get the tape data onto the hard drive I am certain that I would be home and dry.
