Premiere Elements 9 - No Video Preview or Playback

I just installed Pre 9 and when i'm editing a project and hit play all I hear is sound, no video on the screen...I have another problem when I double click on something I imported and try to playback..All I see is a white screen and I hear the sound....I have a new Dell XPS 14 laptop with nice specs and i've been using the windows movie editor without problems so i'm wondering what's going on with Premiere Elements,
Thanks
Chris

Hallo,
I am from Germany and I have the same great problem
Win XP prof. new installed with all updates, NVIDEA 9500GT with driver 266.58, Ram 4GB (3.5 GB effective), all other drivers are actuell. Board Asus P5Q-E with Dual Core 8600. Harddisk 1 with OS and programms, Harddisk2 for data, Harddisk 3 for video only. PRE updatet from 9.0 to 9.01.
Failure:
1. When I open PRE and a new projekt the preview window (monitor) is white. On my second computer with WIN7 the preview window is black and PRE
    9.01 runs perfect.
2. When I open a DVD (created with PRE3.02), and put the files on the timeline, the video frames and audio are correct in the timeline.
3. When I start to playback the video, the marker moves at the timeline, I can hear the sound but no picture is shown at the preview window.
4. When I click left with the mouse in the preview window the actuell frame is shown and the playback stopped. When I start again, the preview window gets
white and I can hear the sound.
5. In the "Videoimporteur" it is the same problem. The files are shown, but  the little preview window is white. When I start playback it's the same problem:
no picture but I can hear the sound.
What I tested:
1. I started PRE 9.01 and opend an other DVD (created with Premiere Pro 1.5 und Encore DVD) witch ran perfect on a stand alone Pioneer
and  a Sony DVD player and on several computers with windows media player: the same failure.
2. I thougt there was a problem with the mpeg codec so I tryed to import a avi file: the same failure, preview window is white, no picture at playback but I can
   here the sound.
3. I installed my old PRE3.02 on the same computer where is the PRE9.01 installed. Playbackfunction on PRE3.02 is well, but on PRE 9.01 the same
    failure.
4. In german videoforums I found the theme problems but nobody has an idea,
5. I contact the adobe support no answer since 6 days.
Excuse my bad english, I hope somebody can help my.
Thanks

  • Premiere Elements 10 Video Preview Not Working

I have all my project setting correct but when I import a clip and try to preview it all I see is a white screen.  The audio plays but the video does not.

    Windows 8.1 64-bit
    EVGA GeForce 780 Ti
    ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition
I've updated all my drivers but I can't seem to figure out what wrong in any of the other threads.
Can I please get some help with a solution?

There is an Announcement at the top of this forum which goes to the core of this type of issue. Please check Announcement at top of this forum.
The odds are that you will need to roll back your NVIDIA GeForce 780 Ti driver version as far back as necessary to get your Premiere Elements 10 Windows working again. All the details are in the Announcement at the top of this forum. But, if you have questions or need clarification on any of this, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Again, the answer to this issue targeted at the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA user is not to update the driver to the latest version, but instead to roll it back.
    Thank you.

Announcement: Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
    Hide Details
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12 video preview choppy

Preview video in Adobe Premiere Elements 12 is choppy and I'm unable to edit with this program. I transfered the video from a DSLR to my hard drive and then added the video from the hard drive to Adobe Premiere Elements. I don't have the same problem editing with Windows Movie Maker. I'm using a Dell Studio 15 laptop with Intel 2-core processor,  4 GB RAM and 500 GB HD. I imported video from the laptop and an external 3 TB HD. I also tried adding clips directly from the camera - a Canon EOS 70D - and it's still choppy and impossible to edit.

    >meet the requirements for Adobe Premiere Elements
There have been MANY discussions here, and in the Premiere Pro forum, about Adobe's requirements
The general concensus HERE is that the Adobe marketing people want more people to buy the program, so they list MINIMUM requirements, not EFFECTIVE EDITING requirements
In the PPro area, but This message has a really good picture showing requirements

  • Premiere Elements 12 - Gaps in audio playback

    Hello everyone!
I have a problem with Adobe Premiere Elements 12: when I play video in timeline or preview window, there are lots of gaps and pauses in audio playback, even though video is playing smoothly. Usually the pattern goes like this: 2 seconds of clean audio - 0,5 seconds silence - 2 seconds of clean audio... etc.
    I have tried the following:
    - change audio buffer settings
    - change audio device (I have tested with integrated audio chip ("High Definition Audio"), M-Audio Fast Track Pro and cheap USB audio interface - same results with all of them)
    - start a new project with correct settings and import only one file
    - disable background antivirus monitoring
Usually source material is AVCHD 1440x1080 25fps (PAL, MTS-file) from small Sony camera, but this problem seems to continue even if I insert only still photo and mp3 audio to timeline. CPU load is about 6% during playback. It seems like Premiere Elements makes these gaps to playback signal before sending it to audio hardware?
Computer specs: Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3,4GHz, 16 GB RAM, 128GB SSD drive for OS & software and 2.0TB 7200 rpm drive for video, Intel HD Graphics 4600, Windows 8 (64bit).
I would be really grateful if someone could give me some tips to solve this annoying audio playback problem.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this problem occurs all the time - even when video is rendered in timeline.

Thanks for the quick response, TonyPh12345.  Clearly not what I was hoping for but not unexpected. BB

New computer 8 GB ram, 64 bits, Windows 7, I figured out how to make videos and I had some help but I can't find the answer to this problem? Has to be a better way? I could spend my life researching this topic and not come across the written material for the answer? I spend $1500 just for this computer to use this program and I am still having problems with it only when I add text. I spent 50 hours on creating a video didn't freeze up once. Then at the end I added in all the written paragraphs of text immediately it started freezing up and kicking me out of the program. Help remember I am a rookie so keep the instructions simple please?

    Thanks Bill,
The text is now working with your short instruction and no more freezing up whoppeeee !! Do you why my microphone won't work under narration? Window opens but it appears not to be active because its grayed out and you can't use the controls? The mircophone works other wise on my system for sure?
I will explore what you just sent me thanks again!

Re: Premiere Elements 9 Videos Rookie Here So Speak English please? created by Bill Hunt in Premiere Elements - View the full discussion
Now is probably a good time to discuss Titles, and Instances of Titles.
When one creates a Title, it appears in the Project Panel. When it appears on, or is dragged to the Timeline, one has an Instance of that Title. One can have any number of Instances of that Title. All are linked back to the Title in the Project Panel. That means that if one changes any Instance of that Title, or the Title in the Project Panel, those changes will affect EVERY Instance of that Title. That can be very useful, but can also be confusing, when first encountered.
As an example, say that you have created a Title, that says "Meanwhole Back at the Ranch," sort of like the old silent Western movies. You place that Title between dozens of Clips on the Timeline, but then notice the mis-spelling. Just correct one of the Instances, or the Title in the Project Panel, and ALL Instances will reflect the change from Meanwhole," to "Meanwhile." So far, so good.
BUT, if one wants a different Title, but one based on that "Meanwhile Back at the Ranch," they would NOT edit one of the Instances, or the Title in the Project Panel, as that would change ALL Instances. Instead, go to that Title in the Project Panel, and Rt-click on it, then choose Duplicate. That will create a Copy of that Title, with the word "Copy" postpended to it. Then edit THAT Title, as needed, and those changes will NOT affect any Instances of the original Title. Note: you can Rt-click on the Copied/Duplicated Title, and choose Rename, to make finding it, and identifying it easier. Initially, upon Duplication, it will appear highlighted in the Project Panel, but if you need to easily find it later on, Renaming it should make that task easier. When done making changes to that Duplicate Title, just drag it to the Timeline to create an Instance of it.
Good luck, and hope that helps, plus saves confusion, when you go to alter but one Instance of a Title, without affecting all other Instances.

  • Is there a way to create and edit a video in portrait mode / 9:16 in Premiere Elements 12 or 13. Playback on an iPhone in portrait position.

I'm editing iPhone app video for posting as the first screen in the Apple app store. Required size for the video is 750:1334, 9:16. I there a way to setup the initial video in portrait mode? Many posts for how to rotate a specific clip, but I need the whole video in portrait position. How to accomplish this? I'm using Windows 7 and Premiere Elements 12 and now 13.

    LaurieFrick
Thanks for giving this portrait Edit area monitor shape a look.
I have Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit and have done the work using Premiere Elements 12/12.1 on Windows 7 64 bit.
Here is a step by step
Find the DSLR [email protected] file
    Local Disk C\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Settings\SequencePresets\NTSC\DSLR\1080p\
And, in that 1080p Folder is the DSLR 1080p30@ 29.97.sqpreset file that you seek.
    1. Copy the
    DSLR 1080p30@ 29.9.sqpreset fileI
and paste it to the computer desktop in a newly created folder named 1920p.
    2. Open the 1920p Folder and edit the ..sqpreset file in Notepad.
To do that right click the .sqpreset, and, from the pop up, select Open With and then Notepad.
    3. In the Notepad document, you are going to edit in only 2 places for now, switching 1920 and 1080 to 1080 and 1920 at the top and bottom
    sections of the Notepad document.
Then go specifically File Menu/Save of the Notepad document and hit Save.
    4. At this point, you have the edited.sqpreset file in the 1920p Folder on the computer desktop.
(Change the name of the edited .sqpreset file so that it = DSLR [email protected])
Move the 1920p Folder from there to add it to the 1080p Folder, the location where you found the original .sqpreset file that you edited.
    Close out of there.
    5. Back in the Premiere Elements 12/12.1, manually set the project preset to the new project preset
    6. When you import your 1080 x 1920 9:16 video file into the project and drag it into the Timeline, you should see
Note that there is no orange line over that Timeline content, indicating that you are seeing
the best possible preview of the image.
    7. As I wrote before,
But, here is the hang up. If I render the Timeline content to get the best possible preview at the Edit level, the video in the Edit area monitor
squeezes in resulting in black borders to the left and right of the video image on screen.
But, otherwise I found I had no problems editing or exporting, just had to keep away from Timeline rendering for previewing after an edit. Need to find the missing ingredient for 100%.
I will be writing this up in my blog in a more organized fashion including how I got the project preset description in Change Settings to agree with the changes. Probably I will do that in the morning.

  • Premiere Elements 11 - No audio on playback using MP4 or MOV video files

    Hello,
I've recently started using Premiere Elements for a project I'm working on and I'm learning as I go.
When I'm adding a video that plays audio in another program to Premiere, the audio won't play.
I've checked the audio and audio hardware settings and they both seem fine.  The mixer is not muted and when I publish the file, there is still no audio.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dale

    DovSolomon
I am assuming that you are working with Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12. On what computer operating system are they running?
Can you open your .avi file in the Elements Organizer 12 and playback the file there and hear audio in the playback?
We have just helped a Premiere Elements user resolve a no sound with .avi file in another thread. Her answer was to update Premiere Elements 12 to 12.1 (See opened project Help Menu/Update.) Why is there no sound on avi files?
The details are in the link cited in my conversions with the user Vickie.
The full video and audio properties of the problem files are needed to evaluate situation such as you describe. In the case of the other user, she was not able to give us anything beyond .avi file. But, fortuately that 12.0 to 12.1 suggestion came to the rescue nonetheless. Bottom line is that, if the 12.0 to 12.1 Update does not resolve your issue, then we will need to go "by the book" and gather file properties, project settings, and the like to try to target the cause of your audio issue. Have you added to this project any narration clips from the program's Narration Tool?
If you create a new project, can you hear the audio from this .avi file in it? Is the problem confined to one .avi file or to any of these .avi files that you import into new or pre-existing projects. Can you hear the audio from non .avi files?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 8 - Video Playback Problem...

    Hi,
I recently purchased Premiere Elements 8 and I have come across a problem which is really frustrating.
Everything I drag one of my imported video files into the timeline and try to play it, the playback comes out all strange and distorted.
I have included a picture what what the playback looks like below.
Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks

    Let us not give up.
First, check out what looks like all you would ever want and not want to know about DivX.
    http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.6
Next, let us attack this video clip with which you are dealing. We need to get a better handle on it, other than DivX Decoder Filter.
First look to see what DivX and any other codecs that you have installed on your computer. If you have Windows XP, follow the path:
Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Sound, video, and game controllers/video codecs and see if you have any DivX codecs there and do they need to be updated.
Download the free utility gspot and see what it tells you about the properties of your video, especially the video and audio codecs.
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html
This way, hopefully we will know what we are dealing with.
Also, what operating system do you have? If Windows Vista, does it have a Windows DVD Maker?
Did you ever say how you intended to export the Timeline and how you want to view the export?
I will be watching for your progress.

  • Has Premiere Elements 12 fixed the jittery playback issues from CS4?

I use Premiere Pro CS4 to edit my videos. I shoot with a Canon DSLR the 60D and import the video files straight into Premiere Pro without the extra transcoding step. (too much trouble to transcode the raw video with every clip). I get jittery and jerky motion in the left hand Source Monitor, when I make my in and out point edits. It plays fine once I have made my edits and render them in the right hand Program Monitor. I have heard that this has been fixed in version CS5 and higher. I can't afford to buy the CS program again, but could purchase Premiere Elements 12 the latest version. Would the jittery playback still be there in the left Source Monitor window of Elements 12, or has it been fixed in all forward versions newer than CS4?
Also if there is a way to make the imported video play smooth in the Source Monitor directly from CS4, without the transcoding process, I would like to hear about that for sure. Thanks for your help guys. Ken in Toronto.

    Ken
I am surprised that the Premiere Pro group did not answer your Premiere Pro question before transferring your thread to the Premiere Elements Forum. The Premiere Pro question seems to be the immediate one. Your question seems to have been ignored by the Premiere Pro people
Also if there is a way to make the imported video play smooth in the Source Monitor directly from CS4, without the transcoding process, I would like to hear about that for sure.
An answer to that might avoid you having to get involved with a new program, Premiere Elements 12.
Nonetheless, I cannot offer you any guarantee about editing 60D footage in Premiere Elements 12. I would need lots of details of your specific video properties and computer environment to approach an answer. Your best and quickest answer will come from downloading and installing Premiere Elements 12 and determining its compatibility in your computer environment and if it meets your video editing needs.

  • Premiere Elements 12: What happened to Playback Settings?

Cep has posted a thread today asking where are the "Playback Settings" choices that were present in Premiere Elements 11 in two places
    a. Edit Menu/Project Settings/General as a Playback Settings button
    and
    b. The Playback Settings dialog that appeared after right clicking the Edit Mode monitor and selecting Playback Settings.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5779204#5779204
The Playback Settings button is gone completely from the Project Settings location; whereas, the Playback Settings choice in the monitor area is still there but greyed out.
I have confirmed Cep's results with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7 64 bit as well as Windows 8 64 bit (the operating system that Cep is using).
We both have Premiere Elements 11 and Playback Settings in both locations cited are still alive and well there.
Does anyone from Adobe or elsewhere have an explanation for this. I have not found any related information in the Premiere Elements 12 Help PDF and have explored and experimented with alternate locations for Playback Settings in version 12. No luck.
Looking forward to follow up on this.  What am I overlooking in the search for Playback Settings?
    Thanks.

Add On...As one point of reference, please note Adobe's write up on "Preview on a TV Monitor"
    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/previewing-movies.html

    Update....
No word from Adobe who would know for sure, but...
On a lead from a Premiere Pro CS6 thread that run into missing  Playback Settings or grayed out Playback Settings in Premiere Pro CS6 version as well, we tried creating the keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+P to access a possibily hidden "Playback Settings", no success. (See Premiere Elements 12 Windows 7 or 8 64 bit, Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization/Windows/Monitor Window/Playback Settings.)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4412697
At this point, the Playback Settings button in preferences and the Playback Settings choice in the monitor as we knew them in Premiere Elements 11 appear to be gone.
    More later.

  • Adobe premiere elements 12 video is slow and does not match sound

after uploading the clip to edit into premiere elements 12 the video clip is slow, it doesnt match with the sound which is on point, when played back the video is choppy and skips a few clips, how to fix this please? this makes me reconsider actually buying this program, this does not happen with windows movie maker.

Could you please review the following and determine if you have been there and done the following.
At the onset, have you assure that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premeire Elements 12?
If you go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks, where do you have the categories directed and how much free hard drive space is there?
Assuring project is set so that project preset (project settings) match properties of source media....
Open Premiere Elements 12 to its Expert workspace.
Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, change the project preset to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p@ 29.97
Before you exit that area (in the last dialog that you see - new project dialog), make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
    Back in the Expert workspace,
    a. If you attach your camera to the computer with USB, the select Add Media/Videos from Flip or Camera/Video Importer.
In the Video Importer Source: locate your camera. Set the Save In:, put a check mark next to the videos you want imported, select the choice Add to Timeline, then hit Get Media. That should put your video in Project Assets as well as on the Timeline.
    b. If you have your files saved to the computer hard drive, then use Add Media/Files and Folders to get you video into Premiere Elements Project Assets from where you drag your video to the Timeline.
Either way, do you see an orange line over the Timeline content (I am not talking about the orange line that runs horizontally through the clip). Hit the Enter key. Does the Timeline content play back in the Edit area monitor or does a Render dialog pop up? What does the playback look like and sound like in either case? Is anything improved at this point from what you were getting before?
If same as same as with the above, there would be series of questions about your computer environment.
We look forward to your results if you get a chance.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements capturing video in one piece instead of clips

I am saving all of my old SVHS tapes to the computer using an ADVC-55 capture card via fire wire and Premiere Elements 12
When the video has captured the entire tape and I go to view, I have noticed that It would save the captured video in clips and other times the full video with no clips.
I have clicked on the radio button to save the captured video as clips.
To be honest, I am not entirely sure what Premiere elements does when it captures the clip.
I know it saves the whole tape as and .avi file - the file size is about 9.5GB
it does seem a bit hit and miss and I am quite new to the program.
Can anyone explain where I am going wrong.
    many thanks

    TD1459
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on?
    What are your Capture settings?
    Generalizing....miniDV camcorder....
If you are doing DV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Windows Capture Window, you have the option to capture
    a. the whole as DV AVI standard or widescreen, depending on how recorded
    or
    b. Split Scenes...under Split Scenes, you have the option of by Timecode or by Content. Then you end up with DV AVI standard or DV AVI widescreen clips.
If you are doing HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 Windows Capture Window, your options
    a. the whole as MPEG2.mpeg
    or
    b. Split Scenes...under Split Scenes, ONLY by Content, not by Timecode. Then you end up with MPEG2.mpeg clips as many MPEG2.mpeg clips as can be detected on a Content basis.
If I recall, VHS does not have Timecode, so the Split Scenes by Timecode would not be an option and you would be dealing with DV data capture firewire with the DV AVI standard output. What does your Capture Window set show for Split Clips, Content? If so, it might be that the program is not able to analyze and detect scenes in some while it can in others.
    More later.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 Video Freezes After One Frame

Hi, so my Adobe product worked PERFECT for about a year now, then all of a sudden it just broke, When I put a file into it, it shows the First Frame and Freezes, the Audio plays as if the Video was showing, but the Video is just frozen. I don't know how to fix it, I've uninstalled and re-installed it, but nothing is helping.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on, and what video card/graphics card
does your computer use? NVIDIA GeForce?
If so, please read the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA issue
which forces the Premiere Elements 10 user to roll back the driver version to about May 2013 in order to get
Premiere Elements 10 to function properly. For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of that
Announcement which describes the problem, gives how to information, and all the necessary details.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you
are experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of

  • HELP! Premiere Elements 10 Video Exporting

    Hi,
I'm a new PrElements 10 user, and I am on deadline and need some help, thanks! I'm new to video so talk any help getting me through this is appreciated.
Here's the description of the project:
++ I'm making a cartoon video and am using CS5 with Premiere Elements 5.
++ It is for internet use: website, social media, YouTube.
++ I'm by importing jpegs made from .ai files in CS5. I'm not NOT shooting video or importing video into the project.
++ I'm giving the jpegs the appearance of animation by treating them through the use of FX, transitions, etc. I'm not using AfterEffects, so I cannot create animations that way.
++ The .ai files are sized in widescreen 16:9 at pixel size 800 x 450.
++ The jpegs were exported from these files with the resolution settings: 5 and 425 ppi.
I mocked up a short video using some of the jpegs to make sure the settings were right before I did the whole project. Here are the problems I'm having:
1.) the exported video is not showing in Widescreen. The video is goes all the way to the top and bottom of the screen but the ends are squashed in so the content and characters are distorted to appear taller and thinner than they should.
2.) when i change the export settings, some of them correct the problem and some of them don't. This export preset works to get it into Widescreen but the file size is huge:  "MP4-H264 1920*1080p 24".
    3. Which brings me to compression. Does PrE have compression to resolve this issue- is it in one of the presets- what compression should I be using? Or do I have to buy a compression program? If so, what do you recommend?
4.) Project Set-up: Is this where I went wrong? Which preset should I be using for this jpeg-driven project? How does that Project Preset affect the input settings and output settings? And should I be using jpegs or tiffs or native .ai files???
    5) My project preset is HD 1080i. Is this present affecting this exporting result?
     Thanks!
