Premiere Elements closes immediately

I have installed PE 8 on a Vista 32 computer.  As soon as I open a file, within a few seconds, the program closes.
I have rebooted without startup progams, cleaned temp files, created a new admin account, redownloaded and reinstalled.  I have tried changing the location for the project.  It seems to createthe file, as the file name is available via "open project," but it closes if I choose new project or open project.
I'm pretty desperate for this to work.  Any ideas?

Have you gone to Windows Update and installed all of the updates (including non-critical)? Have you installed the latest Quicktime? How about the latest firmware for your video graphics card (from the ATI or nVidia site). This support is vital, particularly in Vista, for running this program.

Beyond that, try holding down the Shift key as you launch the program to clear the cache.
If it still doesn't work, I urge you to contact Adobe's Tech Support. Even if they can't help you, it will make them aware that there are issues in this program that need to be addressed.

    After approximately 14 to 16 seconds of viewing any .mod video file recorded from my JVC Everio camcorder a Windows error message appears and Adobe Premiere Elements 4 immediately crashes.     My objective is to handle MOD files from a JVC Everio Hard Drive Camcorder with Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 (PE4) as PE4 crashes after a little while when using MOD or MPG files.
    Sorry Steve but I dont want to use the software that came with the JVC Everio camcorder. I bought PE4 (in euros ...) to use it. By the way MOV files used by QuickTime have nothing to do with MOD files from JVC Everio camcorder! Yes I know, it's confusing.
    After some months of useless forums, reading, hardworking and frustration, I finally found a solution to the problem!! PE5 works quite well and no crashes have occurred so far....
    Here it is. It's not straightforward as you have to use two different free programs but the method is simple to follow.
    1. Transfer MOD video files from the JVC Everio camcorder to the PC.
    2. Convert MOD files into MPEG2 files with the help of a freeware program (I used Converio)
    3. Convert MPG files into DV-AVI files using Free Video Converter.
    This free program is very simple to use and DV-avi files output is compatible with PE4 which is not the case with some other conversion programs.
    As DV-AVI files are not compressed, they are more easily handled by video programs.
    I havent been able to directly transform JVC MOD files into files fully compatible with PE4. If someone knows how to do this, please tell me.
    In conclusion, I feel it is unacceptable that neither JVC nor Adobe offer the compatibility of their products. The information provided by these reputable companies is deceitful for unaware users and sometimes wrong.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 or Premiere Elements 12 closes a second after opening program.

    Hi,
    I got Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 12 as part of a bundle with a printer (Canon MG6620). I installed it and put in the serial numbers as provided.
    I click on Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 in my start menu, I get the start-up window that has the 'Organizer' button and the 'Photo Editor' button and when I click on the Photo Editor button, the program opens up and immediately closes with no error message. I can repeat this several times with no change.
    Things I've tried so far
    Updated Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 12 using Adobe update manager. No change
    Used Compatibility mode for Vista, Windows server 2008. No change
    Uninstalled and re-installed PE 12. No change
    No entry logged in Event Viewer.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 takes about 6 minutes to open but then won't close

    My old computer died so I am installing my Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on my new laptop with 8 gb Ram, 1 tb storage and Windows 8.1.  When I click on the icon to open it it can take up to 5-6 minutes to open and if it does, when I try to close it, it won't close.  I just get programs fails to respond.  Can any body help me?

    What video card is your Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit) computer using? NVIDIA GeForce or other?
    Please check the Device Manager/Display Adapters to confirm the video card/graphics card and how many cards.
    Is the card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    Are you working from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? And, do you have QuickTime (latest version) installed on
    the computer with Premiere Elements?
    Are you  using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
    Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    Please consider the above and then we can decide what next.

  • Premiere Elements 12 trial opens then closes

    Hello, I just downloaded the trial for Premiere Elements 12. When I first open the program and click new project, the program opens then a window pops up that says "Please Log-In with an Admin account to access Adobe Premiere Elements"  I am the only user on the computer and always have been so I know I am using an Adminstrator account. As an alternative I tried opening the program as Administrator. This time when I click new project, the program opens, then just closes with no pop up.

    Recent posts have pointed to a 2 video card set up as being problematic for Premiere Elements 12. That is why I asked back in post 11 of the thread that you joined
    c. What is the specific AMD Radeon Graphics Card that you have? In Device Manager/Display Adapters/, is it just that one card that you see named there? If you go to the Driver tab of the card, what is the driver version number and date?

    I took that to mean that your computer used just that one video card.

    The problem seems to be something else now. I updated the Graphics Driver and now when I start premier elements it says incompatible Graphics Driver found and shuts off
    please delete the BadDrivers.txt file to determine if that has any impact on the situation. The path to the BadDrivers.txt file in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit is

    and in the 12.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete. After you open a Premiere Elements project, the program will generate a new BadDrivers.txt file with the problem hopefully gone. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
    The rationale behind the deletion of the BadDrivers.txt file is given in post 10 of this older thread.

  • Premiere Elements 12 - The project stopped accepting new mp4 and jpeg clips onto the timeline.  There are several there but when adding new ones they appear to place properly then immediately disappear.  Any fix?

    That is an unusual situation that you are presenting.
    Have you updated from 12 to 12.1 via the project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
    Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 presumed 64 bit?
    The usual drill
    a. What is your project preset? What are the properties of your sources media? What is the brand/model/settings of the camera recording your mp4 and jpeg.
    What are the pixel dimensions of these jpeg images and how many of them are there in the project (especially when the problems set in).
    b. What is the size/duration of your Timeline content when the program no longer accepts new files?
    c. Describe status of your computer resources. Also, where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location(s)?
    Troubleshooting for Unexpected/Unexplained project problems...Deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder in which it exists.

  • Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements Splash Screen Only, Then Closes (Windows 7 PC)

    Having a very tough time getting up and running with Photoshop and Premiere Elements 12 on my WIndows 7 desktop. Got everything installed, but when I try to open either product, the splash screen opens, the product is up for a few seconds, then it closes. How can I get it up and running?  I see Adobe does not have free phone support with version 12 of the elements family. I understand that, but if I can't get it to run I will have to return it and slog on with my elements version 7 products. Any suggestions?  Thanks!

    Thanks Bob and Barbara.  I did try uninstalling and reinstalling with Norton 360 turned off and selective startup only windows required programs running in the background.  There is nothing displayed in the bottom left of the splash while it is open, unfortunately.  I was with Premiere Elements phone chat on hold but they have transferred me to the Photoshop Elements team where hopefully they will be able to get on my computer and fix this.  The Premiere guy said the proble with Premiere is because of the Photoshop elements organizer before he transferred me. Keeping my fingers crossed that they will help me or I may have to return it and go back to version 7 of this duo. It's old, but at least it works. Thanks

  • Premiere Elements 8 Editor closes after clicking OK on "Full Content" message

    I downloaded the 30 day trial of Adobe's Premiere Elements 8 and installed it on a Dell Optiplex GX620.  It installed and opens certain modules fine (like the Organizer, for example).  However, when starting a New Video Project (File -> New) or by clicking on New Project, it loads the module and then I receive a prompt asking to install the Full Content from the DVD/Setup.exe.  If you click OK, it closes the Editor. I ended up downloading the Full Content, and installed it as well on the same computer.  I tried it again and it failed like before.
    Note: I installed PE8 on a different machine (Dell Latitude D600) and the PE8 Editor is launching.  I even received the same "Full Content" message, but after I clicked OK, the Editor stayed open and I could continue to use it.
    So, it seems to be isolated to just that Dell Optiplex GX620.  I tried searching around the user forums for troubleshooting tips and I tried some (http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#Delete_the_Edi tors_preferences; http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/8.0/Win/Using/WS96256bd4ae515969-97 c9190120d9c53f61-7fe8.html; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406662.html; etc.), however I couldn't fix the issue.

    The answer was QuickTime.  I changed version down to 7.3.1 which I got on www.oldapps.com and I am finally able to use Premiere Elements 8.
    Glad that you got it sorted out.
    It now seems that Apple has had two recent series of QT upgrades, that just kill certain Adobe applications, the 7.4.x and the 7.6.x. Not sure what the deal is, or why the QT upgrades are not tested with Adobe products, but it seems that both NLE's, PrPro and PrE, plus AfterEffects can be adversely affected. Some have put forth a conspiricy theory that Apple wants to kill use of PrPro on the Mac, so Mac-users will go with some form of Final Cut. However, this does not play with me, as AfterEffects seems to be affected and there is just no competition (from Apple, or others) to replace it. It is used on many, many Mac machines. I think that Apple is trying to improve QT, and is just not testing their updates on machines with enough software, especially from Adobe.
    Still, with the ability to roll-back QT, the user does have a workaround. Personally, I hold off upgrading QT, until enough Adobe-users report that all is stable.

    I have a problem with my just-downloaded Adobe Premiere Elements 12 30 days trial. After normal running it, on an administrator account, Premiere Elepents pops-up an message, that I must run it from an admin account and closes. For addiction, when I press "Run as an Administrator", ther's no message, but it closes itself too, such as running without "Run as administrator". I use HP Pavilion  g6-2330ew Notebook PC 64bit Windows 8 I5 2.6 GHz 16GB RAM. Graphic cards:
    AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series (Additional)
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (Default)
    Both cards have actual drivers.

  • PREMIERE ELEMENTS 7 CLOSES WHEN BURNING PROJECT TO DVD

    Hi - I am a new Premiere Elements 7 user. After completing my first project, I attempted to burn to a DVD. I clicked on Share - then Disc. A message came up saying there was a problem and Premiere had to close. I tried this several times.
    I did post this problem on Muvipix.com, and received several suggestions from Steve and Chuck, but none of them worked and I'm not sure if they really understood the problem although they did try very hard to help me.
    I switched over from Pinnacle because of all the problems I had with them, and I was hoping it would be a simpler process with PE7, but this supposedly basic function isn't working.
    I have a brand-new Dell Computer (one month old) with these specs:
    Intel Core 2 Processor (2.33Ghz, 1333F SB) w/Quad Core and 4MB Cache
    6GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1067 MHz
    ATI Radeon HD 4850 XT 512MB
    750GB Hard Drive 7200RPM
    Vista Home Premium Operating System (64-bit)
    16X DVD+/-RW and 16X DVD-ROM
    So it's a loaded computer.
    I would appreciate any help I can get to solve this problem.

    I found that by removing everything except Windows, re-starting, installing latest version of Quicktime, re-starting, installing Elements 7, re-starting and then re-installing the rest. It's very time consuming but it eventually works and one can export mpeg as well as burn DVDs.

  • Premiere Elements 7 closes opening Transitions

    I think the following problem is starting to spread as PRE7-users upgrade to the latest Nvidia GeForce driver. So if you experience that Premiere Elements 7.0 stops working and is closed by Windows when you open Effects and Transitions with one of the following error message:
    - Stereo Vision Control Panel API Server was terminated and closes. (In danish "Stereo Vision Control Panel API Server blev afbrudt og lukket")
    or
    - The program has caused an error and are closed (translated from danish "Programmet har forsaget en fejl og blev lukket")
    You are hit by this error... which appears to be caused by the latest version of Nvidia GeForce Display (v. 190.62).  After an uninstall as described below PRE7 is running without problems. ... and PRE7 program and projects are loaded 2-3 times faster.
    1 - Go to 'Programs and functions' and uninstall:
    - Nvidia PhysX
    - Nvidia Stereoscopic 3d driver
    2 - Restart your computer
    If you install the driver from Nvidia again or a never version the problem will reoccur.

    Thanks a lot for your reply.
    I believe my Nvidia is a GE Force 8 series (with Nvidia Stereoscopic 3d driver uninstalled). As you said, perhaps PhysX is not installed in the first place.
    Regarding your other point, I did indeed uninstall PE3 prior to installing PE7. My other 4 year old computer which worked fine with PE has the same softwares installed as this current quad core HP (ie Nero 8, Magix 14 Pro, Sony Sound forge, Clone, Anydvd, dvdfab, dvd shrink, etc). The only difference is in the operating system (vista here vs xp) and the graphics card (Nvidia here and ATI Radeon on the old computer).
    There could be something else as you've said perhaps on the computer as I bought it but it seems likely that Nvidia is still the culprit.
    I can do everything in standard defintion editing except burn to a folder or to dvd where the appliance crashes. I've been exporting dv-avi files to a folder and then using Magix to make a dvd. Beside the extra work, I feel that the quality of the final video if burned via PE is slightly better quality than through Magix or Nero.
    You mentioned not having burned a disc through PE. What do you use for disc burning?

    How long have you been working with Premiere Elements 8.0 successfully? Are you a newcomer to the program?
    I will start with the usual questions and then we can fine tune next.
    1. Are you working with the 8.0.1 version of the program? If not, then download and install the 8.0.1 update.
    Adobe - Premiere Elements : For Windows : Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0.1 update
    2. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalyzer features disabled. If not, please do so.
    For Background Rendering, see Premiere Elements Editor Edit Menu/Preferences/General and the Background Rendering preference
    there. For AutoAnalzyer, go to the Elements Organizer workspace, Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalzyer Options and disable all those
    options.
    3. Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    4. Does this problem occur only when you are opening a saved closed project and trying to continue working on the project? Does
    the problem occur even if you open a new project? Can the problem happen even before you import media into the project?
    Let us start here and then decide what next which might include questions about the properties of your source media, project settings,

    I purchased Premiere Elements 8.0 today and the program would crush down immediately after opening.
    I did all of the following:
    - Uninstall and reinstall the program (3 times) and rebutted the computer every time the new installation took place

    - Checked that my home computer is more than compatible with the Premiere Elements system requirements
