Premiere Elements won't recognize files

Hello, I am using Premiere Elements 8 and I am so frustrated with it.  All of a sudden when I go to add media, it does not recognize files.  I tried to open 2 mp4 files and it said it was the wrong file type or I didn't have the necessary codec.  Last week it had no problem adding MP4 files.  So, I converted the MP4 files into AVI files and guess what?  It didn't recognize them either.  I could scream.  So I tried to add an mp3 file, no luck.  Converted it to a WAV file, same thing.  So, anybody have an idea of what is going on?
Would someone like to convince me that this software isn't a piece of trash?
Two weeks ago I was adding titles to a movie I was putting together and it crashed every time I added a title.  But at least the title was added before it crashed.  I had 12 titles and it crashed 11 times, so I had eleven titles added. I finally gave up adding the last title when it crashed before I could add the title.  I tried to add the title about 10 times before I gave up.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

>Last week it had no problem adding MP4 files...converted the MP4 files into AVI files
If you are not able to open files that did open before, something has changed... or maybe become corrupted
Reset Corrupted Preferences = Press/HOLD Ctrl+Alt+Shift while starting program
If that does not work, you need to find out exactly what is inside your files

  • Premiere Elements 7 and .MTS Files

I hope someone can help.. I have a new Panasonic SDC-HD1 that shoots High Def .mts files. Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 recognizes them and I can even drop one onto the SCENE LINE and it shows up. HOWEVER, any other .MTS files I drop onto the scene line, do not show up there.. THEY do show up on the TIME LINE but on different LINES under VIDEO 2 VIDEO 3 VIDEO 4 VIDEO 5 etc etc etc. NOTHING shows up on the scene line. how do I resolve this so the videos show up on the scene line so I can add transitions etc? the program seems to work fine with regular SD video clips and my 720P MP4 files. it just has an issues with the .mts files..
    ANy help would be appreciated...

Paul LS - I have a similar problem but can't find the right project preset or customize an existing project preset. As in Dave Hauss' original post, when I drag files onto the Sceneline they are bunched together in one scene, and when I switch to the Timeline they appear on separate tracks, e.g., Video4 and Audio4, Video5 and Audio5, etc. I have a new Sony DCR-SR220 hard disk drive camcorder that shoots standard definition Widescreen NTSC Video, 720x480 frame size, 16:9 ratio, and the audio is Dolby 5.1. The preset under NTSC | Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder | Widescreen 48kHz only has Stereo audio, not Dolby 5.1. If I try to pick a preset for 5.1 audio, such as NTSC | AVCHD | HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel, then I can't edit the incorrect video settings from HD back to SD. Is there any way to truly customize an existing project preset, or create a new project preset from scratch, to be able to use the Sceneline? Thanks for your help.

  • How to change \Adobe\Premiere Elements\12.0\Encoded Files location to another drive?

Hello. I am using Premiere Elements 12. I am not able to burn blueray disk because I have insufficient disk space. I am using SSD drive so I need to move Adobe\Premiere Elements\12.0\Encoded Files location to another drive. How can I do this?

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on? For now, assuming Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit....
In the Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Expert workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disc and set the location for the category
    named Disc Encoding.
Please let us know if that works for you.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 13 XAVC s files

Anyone know if Premiere Elements supports XAVC S files, I just bought a Sony RX100 III you can record in XAVC S format and am thinking of getting Premiere Elements 13

    g287y
Are you using a NTSC or PAL setup?
Premiere Elements 13, like version 12, has project presets and export to file saved to computer hard drive settings for XAVC-S video at the 3840 x 2160 resolution (described as QFHD resolution). Put be advised on their availability NTSC vs PAL.
    Import
    NTSC Project Presets
(QFHD resolution Project Presets Only In NTSC)
    Export
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    XAVC-S
Always a good idea to go tryout of Premiere Elements before purchase to assure compatibility between it and your computer environment and your
    project goals.

  • Can't get Premiere Elements 9 to recognize my video

I have Premiere Elements 9 and I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't let me import video files that are already on my computer - like those from my FlipCam - with video. The audio is there but no video. I don't know if it makes a difference, but the format appears to be .avi.
Additionally, Elements does not recognize my Canon video camera (admittedly its a couple of years old) to capture video. After hooking it up to a firewire port and turn it on, Elements has no recognition that the camera is there.
    Please help!!
    Thank you

    Hi Steve and Hunt,
(Steve I sent this response to you before I realized I could respond to my initial post. Hopefully this will help generate some new ideas for my problems.)
Thank you for your response. Let me start by saying trouble shooting computer problems is not my specialty. So hopefully I'll be better able to answer your questions than my initial post. Steve and Hunt my responses to your questions below:
    1. When you started your Premiere Elements project, did you choose the correct settings for Flip video?
Not entirely sure. When I go to "get media" I click on the appropriate area I would like Premiere to get the video from. If there are other specifications I am not sure where to find them. Also I realized later that I was unclear about where I was getting the file from. It IS a flip video, but I was trying to pull it from a file already on my computer - NOT trying to directly import it from the flip camera. When I try to pull over these flip camera videos, Premiere pulls over the audio from it but NO video.
    2. Did you get your video into your project by connecting your camcorder to your computer and then using Get Media/From Flip AVCHD Hard Disk camcorder, which opens the Video Importer?
I tried, but am still not able to get video directly from the flip camera. Likewise am not able to pull the flip camera video from a file on my computer.
As for trying to capture video from my Canon mini DV video camera (model ZR90), the program doesn't recognize that my camera is there so I'm not able to capture any video. If it helps this camera is at least 5 years old.
Windows Movie Maker also does not recognize that my camera is there and turned on. Movie Maker though is able to pull the flip camera videos with video and audio onto its template
    3. Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements?
I just tonight downloaded a new version of Quicktime
    4. What operating system are you running?
    Windows XP
    5. As Steve asks, what is the Project Preset, and what are the full specs. of the files from the Flip, plus from your Cannon?
I'm not exactly sure what specs I should be looking for: size, frame rate? Is AVI movie file helpful at all?  I read the article but I'm still unsure about what details I should be looking for. Sorry .
Thanks for taking a look. Please let me know if you have any other questions for me
    Michelle

  • Premiere 12 won't recognize Cannon ZR960 and allow capture

Premiere Elements 12 won't recognize my Cannon ZR 960 video camera so I can capture video from mini cassette to my Mac computer

    RGI
    Thanks for the reply.
Premiere Elements (any version) classically works only with a firewire connection between the camera and the computer to the Premiere Elements Capture Windows for DV and HDV data capture firewire.
I am unfamiliar with this "lightning outlet". I see some say Thunderbolt = Lightning and other say Thunderbolt is not the same as Lightning. Whatever the case, I suspect that computer port is at the core of your issue with Premiere Elements which has been firewire requiring. Have not tried it, but I do not think that a firewire adapter for the lightning port would work. Have you tried that?
But, good news that iMovie recognized the Canon ZR 960. Can you import the DV.mov and MPEG2.mpg (assumed iMovie capture formats) from save location  into Premiere Elements 12 Mac?

  • Problem with Premiere Elements 11 uploading mp4 files

I tried to upload a video footage for editing. The video was taken using a GoPro camera and the output is mP4. The footage playback on Premiere Elements 11 was choppy and stalled often. I asked someone else with the same program and he experienced the same issue- so much so that he quit using Adobe's software and switched to Mac/iMovie. Any thought on why or how to fix the problem? I emailed Adobe support a couple of times for the problems encountered in both Premiere and Photoshop but have gotten no response from them. Thanks.

    Gumbie10
Appreciated the follow up. Would like to offer some considerations....
    1. If you are looking at choppy video, then you must be on the Premiere Elements 11 Expert Timeline or Quick Filmstrip in order to see the choppy video in the Edit Mode monitor. Consequently, to see the video you had to import it.
    a. How did you import it? Add Media/Files and Folders to get the files into Project Assets from where you dragged the files to the Expert Timeline. (In the Quick Filmstrip route, there is no Project Assets intermediary. It is Add Media/Files and Folder/with direct to one of the scenes in the Filmstrip).
    b. Once you had the files on the Expert Timeline or Quick Filmstrip, did you render the files there by hitting the Render button or by hitting the Enter key of the computer main keyboard?
    2. Premiere Elements 11 automatically takes over setting up the project preset for a new project. The project preset should match the properties of the source media. Sometimes it does the set OK; sometimes, not. Check to see what the program has set if you did not set the project preset yourself manually. (Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, and Frame Size.)
    3. If you are using the GoPro Hero 3 Black at the 1080p set, then the video codec (compression) is AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/.H264). The question becomes at what frame rate...30, 60, or other progressive frames per second. From what you wrote, apparently what you have has a .mp4 file extension (that is what is called the container, the format that wraps the video and audio compressions).
    4. Then we come to the matter of your photos. What are the pixel dimensions that you are trying to use for this Premiere Elements project? Have you gotten to importing the photos or is it only the videos that you have tried to import into a Premiere Elements 11 project?
    Please review the above.
But, I am also concerned about
Meantime, for still images, I did my editing on PS Element 11 and used Live Movie Maker to put together the video. It works for me. I had trouble with the output (to burn DVD/Cd and to upload to PS showcase) in the PS Element as well.
Thanks again for the input. I'll give an update later.
Do you want two separate projects, one for video and one for stills or is all that a workaround for overall issues.?
Please do not hesitate to ask for clarification on anything that I have written. I will rewrite if necessary so that we are in sync.
The answers are in the details.
    More later.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - importing MPEG files hear sound but no picture

Have just bought a new Dell XPS8300 i5-2320 3.3Ghz 12MB RAM 1.5TB computer and have Premiere Elements 9. Am trying to put video from my Olympus VR-310 camera into Premiere Elements. Have downloaded the MJPEG Codec. When I bring the video clips in, I can hear the sound but get no picture. It is either a blank black or blank turquoise screen. I've looked at suggestions on forums and have downloaded the latest Nvidia GeForce GT545 driver for the computer and have checked everything using GSpot. The video plays fine in Windows Mediaplayer, Quicktime and VideoLAN. Am now running out of things to try. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Unless the Oly version of the MJPEG CODEC is not compatible with PrE (that can happen, and not just with the MJPEG CODEC), you should not need to convert the footage to WMV. Still, that will depend on exact tweaking of the MJPEG CODEC by Oly.
As for VLC Player (and MediaPlayer Classic HC, and probably for others, like GOM Player, as well), those players contain their own set of CODEC's, though mostly for playback.
As mentioned in that CODEC article, linked above, there are basically 3 uses for a CODEC:
Used for playback - the vast majority of Video CODEC's
Used for encoding - still, a large sub-set of the Video CODEC's
Used for editing - a much smaller sub-set of the Video CODEC's, and usually limited by the exact NLE program
With the Oly MJPEG CODEC properly installed, I would test editing the footage natively, as I would anticipate that should work, with no WMV conversion, with produces heavily-compressed files, that require a lot of processing power to edit.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

Successfully backed up Curve 8330 to DM V 4.1.   (ad to wipe handheld due to a server upgrade.)  Tried to restore back to Curve V 4.7 and won't recognize the file.
First thought is to restore to an old 7130 phone first then perform a back up on a newer DM version to then restore to the Curve.
    Any ideas?  Solutions?  Thanks!

First, look ON the pc and determine if and where the backup file is located. It will have the date in the file name and the "backup" as well, and end in the file type of IPD.
Second, is your boss on a corporate BES account? If so there will be a way to make the backup file be recognized.

    Hi
Found this work-around on the following webpage http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/install.102/b25143/toc.htm
you select either of these options and then click Apply Changes, one of the following may occur:
An error saying that the page cannot be displayed (or a 404 error, depending on your browser)
A delay, followed by a 500 server error or a blank page
You can disregard these occurrences. The option that you selected will be successfully applied.
Workaround: To avoid these occurrences, use SQL*Plus to enable or disable remote access. You can start SQL*Plus by selecting Run SQL Command Line from the Oracle Database 10g Express Edition menu. Then enter the following commands:
SQL> CONNECT SYS/AS SYSDBA (Or enter CONNECT SYSTEM)
    Enter password: password
SQL> EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETLISTENERLOCALACCESS(FALSE); (To enable remote access)
SQL> EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETLISTENERLOCALACCESS(TRUE); (To disable remote access)
Let us know if this helps you.

  • Premiere elements does not recognize Blu-Ray disc, says media not present.  Under 12 I was able to record 3 blu-ray dvds using the same burner and discs I'm trying with 13.  What is the problem?

    What is going  on here?

    Thanks for the follow up.
    1. Did you overcome the Shared Technologies error on reinstall? That is a troublesome issue that is independant of Premiere Elements version and computer operating systems. There are many suggested remedies. The one that has been working for me lately is renaming the OOBE Folder to OLDOOBE before reinstall.
    Local Disk C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE Folder that you rename if this Shared Technologies error is blocking an install or reinstall.
    As for
The setup has detected that ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe dynamiclinkmanager (dynamiclinkmanager.exe)
Opening to Task Manager/Processes, finding those .exe files, and doing an End Process typically takes care of those problems.
Since you have reinstalled the program, you must have succeeded in the above. Great job.
Have you done an inspection, seeking pile ups of preview files, conformed audio, and conformed video files? Is the computer defragmented? These days the defragmentation is done automatically, but worth checking.
You indicated that the video card driver is up to date. Was the latest update done after Premiere Elements 11 was working well? If so, you could look at roll back of the video card driver version. If it does not improve the situation, you could always revert to the one that you know to be current.
A remote possibility that an antivirus update might be involved in the recent events. Have you looked at your present situation with and without the antivirus enabled?

  • Adobe Premiere Elements Won't Start A New Project?

When I open up Premiere Elements and try to start a new project, all it shows is a black and purple line, then it just stops. I have already tried updating QuickTime, Windows 7, Nvidia Drivers, and Uninstalling and then Reinstalling Premiere elements. I am running it on a PC that has an AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six Core Proccessor, 8 GB of RAM, a Nvidia G-Force GTX 650, and i installed the program on a secondary hard drive with 761 GB of free space.

    xXFIRE
What is this "secondary hard drive" on which you originally installed Premiere Elements 12? Internal or external and how formatted NTSC or FAT32?
I do not see where anyone has asked about "Scratch Disks" as they relate to your issues?
Please refer to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks...
    a. Where are the scratch disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location?
    b. Do you have all the scratch disks categories directed to the same place? If not, do so and make sure there is lots of free hard drive space where you are pointing them to.
Please look for pile ups of preview files in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder and pile ups of conformed audio in the Media Cache Folder. Both these folders by default are in Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0.
Please go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and hit the Clean button in the Media Cache Database in that area.
As for the matter of where Premiere Elements program should be installed. Interesting question and some interesting answers. Back in a 2010 thread here on this type of subject, Akshat B (Adobe Staff) wrote
Yes you can install Premiere Elements on any other drive. For that you need to follow these steps:
    1. Uninstall current copy of Premiere Elements.
    2. Start the installer of Premiere ELements.
    3. Choose a location on d:\ drive after choosing the default TV format.
Please keep in mind, even if you select d: drive as the install location some amount of data will get copied to C: drive.

  • Photoshop won't recognize files unless they have file extension

Programs won't recognize their own (older) documents unless the file name includes the file type extension. For example, Photoshop won't recognize a .jpg from another Mac unless the .jpg is included in the file name.
How can I fix that without having to type the file extension every single time I want to open a file I've made on another Mac?
I have already turned on "show file extensions" in Finder Preferences. Some files just won't show their extensions.
Is there some other setting I can change?

I just did a little testing here to try and duplicate your issue. You're right. I pulled various old files from my archives that were created under OS 9. Which as you know, didn't normally use any type of file extensions.
Anything that was a TIFF, JPEG or EPS file opened in Preview, even though I know they were created in Photoshop. Adding the appropriate extension didn't change anything, they still opened in Preview. The only ones that opened in Photoshop when double clicked were those saved as native Photoshop files, even though they didn't have a .psd extension.
I was able though to do the normal process of doing a Get Info on a TIFF, changing it to open in Photoshop and then clicking the Change All button. From then on, all TIFFs opened in Photoshop as expected whether they had an extension or not.

By any chance are you working from a dual monitor setup?
Are you on a network? Are you using non default locations for program installation and/or program associated folders and files.
Have you looked at deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file? In Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 64 bit, the path is:
    Local Disc C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. Check Folder Option mentioned below so that you can see whole path.
If you do have the latest version of the video card driver installed, consider deleting the BadDrivers.txt file. I am assuming that you have Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 64 bit Windows and not XP. So, the path to the BadDrivers.txt file should be
    Local Disc C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete. Be sure to be working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path.
    Looking forward to your results.
